The good, the bad and the worst!
from A TripAdvisor Member
My wife and I stayed at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City from 28th Nov until 1st December 2003. We chose the hotel carefully on the internet for its location and the photos of the interior of the hotel. We were looking for somewhere a bit special to celebrate my birthday. The lobby and entrance are fabulous but unfortunately thats where the positive feelings for his hotel start to evaporate. After having booked a superior room we were given a very small room opposite the elevators of which there are six. The window in the room did not...

Great Hotel!
from A TripAdvisor Member
My friend and I stayed at the Roosevelt Nov. 25-28. We had an early flight so we were worried about checking in early. We had no problems what so ever checking in at 11:30. The staff were so friendly and helpful to us throughout our trip. Yes the standard rooms are small and only have a shower, but are you really visiting New York for the size of a room? Our room was always clean and when I called and asked for more washclothes the staff was so friendly and they had the washclothes to the room in no more than 5 minutes. Bell men were always...

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

Stayed at the Roosevelt from 11/18 - 11/21. Booked online through Hotwire, good price at $140 per night, at least for New York. Hotel is located in a very convenient part of town right near Grand Central Station, has a convenience store next to it which was handy for quick drinks, snacks, newspapers. Room was clean, but heater in room was very noisy and the room was quite small. Also did not like the fact that the hotel seemed to have a problem with people that booked online, the attitude was "you got a good rate, so you will take...

Great place for a great city
from A TripAdvisor Member
I was a bit unsure upon booking this holiday, worrying all the time before arrival to what the hotel was like. Upon arrival the hotel is not very pretty with the decor from the outside, but don't be fooled the inside is perfect, esp at Christmas. From the friendly staff to the lovely decor in the lobby and the relaxing atmosphere in there fantastic bar. So now the rooms, we had a standard room and when we saw it we thought, "oh my god this is small". Standard room are basic, the bathroom is very small but with all the amenities, so if you...

November 6-10 - Its not as great as people make out
from coolio
So I have spent a lot of time making sure we had a great hotel for our first trip to NYC. It was my birthday too!!! Although it was a 3 star it had great reviews on here, although the last month it seems to have severely slipped. Booked through Priceline. Location was good, not slap bang in the middle of Times Square but that would be too much and too noisey. Hotel, by European standards was big, although not nearly as big as a lot of NY hotels. Ahead of booking in, sent an e-mail requesting a nice room with one double bed. No reply....

A great hotel for tourists in NY
from PeckhamWry
Booked into the Roosevelt after reading reviews here. Got a great deal through Quikbook - a superior double on 9th floor for $170 + tax.Location is perfect for midtown/Times Square/Grand Central Station. Hotel lobby is beautiful, with a really old fashioned Christmassy feel at this time of year. The bar in the lobby is a bit worn, but still charming and is a good place for a late night whisky.Room was fairly large (by New York standards at least), bed was very definitely king-sized and comfortable too. Everything was clean and amenities all...

Great location for housewives visit NY
from A TripAdvisor Member
Perfect place to stay in Manhattan. Close location to shows-Broadway and Park Ave-shopping. Also close to Grand Central Station. Three ladies shared one room with two double beds (requested a roll-away bed and got it at no cost). Rollaway was not a fold up cot - it was a twin bed - very comfortable. Bathrooms were very small but clean. Staff was extremely nice. Would stay there again in a heartbeat. We got the room for $180/night on expedia.com.
Disappointed
from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the Roosevelt 11/13/03 - 11/16/03. We arrived by Taxi and were dropped off at an entrance where we had to carry 5 pieces luggage up 2 flights of stairs. Once we made it to the lobby we had passed 2 staff members who nevered offered to assist us. We then went to check in and the lady that checked us in was about as rude as they come. Our room was not available so we were told we could check our luggage in with the Bellman. We went to the Bellman Station and once again we encountered a rude staff members. It was as if we were not...

A little disappointing! 4 - 8 Nov 2003
from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband took me to NY for my 30th birthday - Roosevelt Hotel had impressive lobby. Went to room and found two beds - we had booked a Queen Room. They couldn't change the room as they were fully booked - first disappointment. Went in bathroom - very tiny, bathmat dirty - another disappoinment. Heating wouldn't come on - called reception who informed me the heating was on a timer and would come on at 11.30pm!!! Went to bed and every time the heating came on it would make so much noise that it would wake me up! The walls were really...

The location of the hotel to the main attractions of the city is great. 5th Avenue is a short walk, Central Park, Times Square and Grand Central Terminal (as the locals call it) are only a couple of blocks away. New York is a wonderful city. I would recommend this hotel,... more
