Great location, nice rooms, no pool

I stayed at the Park Central for 2 nights. The rooms were very nice, the staff was friendly, the location was great.....my only criticism is that there was no pool......A good tip: Check in early to avoid long lines!
Difficult Staff, Last Stay Here

This was my 3rd year staying at this hotel. Prior to this experience I had no problems. This one was quite a nightmare. I was in NYC for the US Open tennis and went thru a sports travel agency for my room at this hotel, as I always did. It was one of the cheapest available, but I figure I am not in the room much except for at nite and it was a decent enough place. I had a driver take me from Pa to NYC as I was solo and felt more comfortable that way. He left me off and when I went to check in, they asked for my driver's liscence. I didn't have it with me, or any other form of photo id ( dumb I know but not really the point). They would not check me into the hotel. Luckily the driver didn't yet leave and I ran out to him to try to help. The man at the desk was very rude. He didn't care about leaving a female alone in the city whatsoever. When I tried to contact my travel agency, the name of the person on my confirmation letter was not staying at this hotel and therefore they couldn't get me in touch with anyone else staying there from the travel company. They wouldn't even try. I had to go back with the driver, call my aunt who is a knowledgeable traveler ( who yelled at me for 5 min. about not having ID with me :) called the manager to pleade my case. Eventually the manager said ok provided my aunt fed ex me my liscence for the next day. I have to say I was never so scared in all my life and I did learn a lesson. However, when I met up with my travel agency, they were not happy with the way I was treated. By the end of the trip they informed me they would no longer be using this hotel because they were not happy with their service. After this experience I would never stay here again. I just felt the staff could have been more helpful to me and to think they would leave someone on the streets of NYC alone was just unbelievable.
"Couldn't Care Less" Staff add Insult to Injury of Staying in this Dumpy Hotel

So, this is what World Hotels describes as one of their "First Class" properties? I'd hate to see their "Deluxe" or "Comfort" level hotels! First room - tiny, dingy, door doesn't close. Second room - tiny, dingy, depressing. Third room...walked in on the guest who was actually occupying it. Fourth room - wow...an upgrade to the concierge level...means a view of a brick wall, peeling wallpaper in the bathroom, stains on the carpet. Staff was uncaring, ungracious. They should be charged with fraud just based on their website information alone!
great hotel

I have stayed at the Park central on two occasions now and have fully enjoyed both stays. We have had a couple of little problems, the tv kept making noises and the picture was jumping, we were near the lift and it kept us awake for a couple of nihts until we got used to it.(1st time we stayed). the last trip was in 2003 and the only problem was that the hotel charged my credit card for no reason-however the mistake was rectified before I'd even noticed. The rooms have always been clean and spacious and this time we had a side room with an ok view. I would definatly stay here again.
Yucky Hotel

What a dump! It never felt like anyone ever cleaned the room. The bottoms of my shoes were cleaner than the carpet. The furniture and bedding had stains. House cleaning didn t do a very good job on vacuuming, found 2 safety pins when I first checked into the room and the next day after the cleaning people came found 3 more safety pins in the floor. Would never stay there again!
Avoid it

I felt I had to write to agree 100% with the writer of the review titled' Keep on Looking'. We had the very same experience here in 1999. I took pictures because it really was something you would have to see to believe. To say it was very dirty is putting it mildly. We checked out after one night and wouldn't have stayed at all but we were to exhausted to do otherwise.
Keep on Looking

This was our first trip to New York City and I am sure that too many movies had set my expectations of the hotel rather high, but considering the star rating, I thought this was outrageous. There were only two things about this hotel that weren't a nightmare--the bellman that helped us when we checked in, and the location. We arrived around midnight with our two small exhauseted children and had to change rooms 3 times before we made it to one that was even inhabitable. They had touted a recent and expensive thorough remodel, and it looked like a dump. Filthy carpet, wallpaper peeling off the walls, filthy bed linens with cigarette holes and all in the smallest room I have ever stayed in. The first room was smoking--we specifically asked for non due to a severe allergy, the second room had a broken a.c. (hot and muggy in the room), and the third was still worse than any cheap road motel that I have ever stayed in when I was broke in college. Unfortunately we bid on the room through Priceline and were refused a refund so that we could change hotels. I made the mistake of letting the kids sit on the floor to color (we had to put the suitcases on the only table there was), their clothes were so filthy from the carpet I was afraid they would never come clean. The hotel is right across the street from Carnegie Hall--not that I could enjoy that---the little detour we had to take to find a room that was marginally acceptable forced us out of the room we were promised with a view of the street, and we were facing the interior shaft the hotel was built around--a very small open square with a view of the steam vents and other unfortunate guest's windows who shared the same fate. The restaurant was so overpriced we never ate there---roomservice was equally rediculous. I don't mind paying for good food in a quality hotel--this was not a quality hotel--it was an overcrowded barn for herds of unknowing tourists. A HUGE disappointment.
new year at park central

We stayed 6 nights at the Park Central including New Year's eve. The hotel is very well located and the rooms are spacious and well furnished. Very good price/quality. We recommend this hotel.
Comfortable...but a madhouse at Thanksgiving
from Andrew1234
We arrived at 10pm on Thanksgiving Eve 2003 and joined a registration queue of 8-10 other arrivals. Check-in took over an hour! Only two desk clerks were on duty. Most everyone had reservations, but most everyone also seemed to encounter check-in problems. I guess the managers never went to hotel school...or perhaps the hotel's computer system needs an overhaul. Once we were checked in, we found the rooms to be nicely furnished and quiet. Ugly courtyard view (but we didn't care about that). Elevators were overtaxed given the hotel's size and population. Location was fabulous. Showers were adequate.

Stayed in the Park Central in November 2003. The hotel is in a fantastic location, near times square, central park, broadway etc etc. The elevators do take a while, but because I hate elevators anyway when I got there I asked to be moved to a low floor, was given floor 3, so I could walk up and down the stairs, although the stairs do leave a hell of a lot to be desired! Staff were nice, able to arrange everything from limo hire to basketball tickets as they have their own ticket office within the hotel. Bar and restaurant is really expensive (all hotels are I guess). Room had 2 good size beds, nice bathroom and air-con/heater and they were made up everyday. Would def. stay here again.
We would NOT RECOMMEND this hotel - despite good location, it is poor value for money. Rooms very worn, very busy hotel, staff are surly and simply cannot cope or be bothered to cope. Rooms on lower floors are very noisy - street traffic. Hotel is more like a train... more
