Splendid Front Desk Service, Splendid Location
from A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel is located about 45 seconds from Broadway, a short walk from the center of Times Square and an even shorter walk to the 49th Street subway station. Rockerfeller Center, Carnegie Hall, Central Park, Tiffany's and St. Patrick's Cathedral were all within easy walking distance even on a bitterly cold weekend. Our room was originally on a floor occupied by a teenage tour group. It would have been a long night if the Front Desk (a gentleman named Stephen in particular) had not taken the time to make arrangements that resulted in an upgraded room far from the teenagers at no extra charge. The older you get, the more you appreciate thoughtful service !
Group booking Beware

Our group booked 9 months in advance. The trip was carefully planned with constant communication with the hotel. We had known that the hotel would be modest, clean, great location and budget in mind. We had been given information by other travelers who had stayed at this hotel previously. These same travelers were in our group and related that their previous experiences at the hotel were different.Out of the 21 rooms booked--only 2 rooms were provided with choice of smoking preference and bedding choice. The hotel was overbooked and would not change rooms for the unhappy guest. We arrived at noon--issued keys for rooms that were not ready or cleaned.(Front desk did not inform the guests) Confusion from the beginning. We prepaid for a full american breakfast. $10.00 in advance--group rate. On Cafe Edison Menu listed for less than $6.00. Bring in groups at your own risk. Plan on disappointed guests. We run about 4 trips a year to NYC and will never bring a group again to the Edison. The hotel didn't even try to earn back our business in any way.For such a small saving---Find another hotel!A Credit Union, Syracuse New York
Great deal - & you can't beat the location!

I just spent the weekend at the Edison and was impressed. The location was perfect and as a woman traveling alone, I felt very safe and comfortable. The room was small but immaculate and quiet. Note: bring your own hairdryer: you can get one from Housekeeping, but they bring it to you and want it back in one hour!

December visit

We stayed at the Edison Hotel from Nov. 29, 2003 to Dec. 4th 2003, and found it to be an excellent choice. It was very festive, with charming Art Deco decoration. The room was very comfortable and warm with everything we needed. It is also very central with such a buzz, restaurants nearby and loads of things to see. We would certainly stay there again should we be lucky enough to come to New York again.
Great value!

I stayed at the Edison from Dec. 29 - Jan. 3 2004. The Edison was a terrific value! Our room was very clean and spacious (room 1819). It is an older hotel, but it has been well maintained. I never had to wait long for an elevator, the staff was wonderful, and the Cafe Edison on site offered good food and a good price. I will choose this hotel again when in NYC!
Excellent value for money!

I have just returned from a 5 day Christmas trip to New York and stayed at The Edison. I thought it was a great hotel in a fantastic location. Okay so it's not a luxurious hotel! But take into account the location, the cost, the friendly staff and the cleanliness and I think it's well worth it. We had an average sized room which was really warm and spotless clean. Everyday we were given fresh towels and the room was cleaned. There's a cosy little bar, a gift shop, transportation desk and a great little coffee shop. When I return to New York I will definitely stay here again. Someone below wrote that there was no iron/ironing board. I've never read such trash. What a pathetic reason to slag off a hotel. I say to this person, all you have to do is ask nicely. It's not such a big issue!!
Good Hotel and other NYC Tidbits

After a recent stay in NYC in which I stayed in the dungeon known as the Hojo-Penn Station, the Hotel Edison was a delight! I was there during high season (Dec 25-30), so paid more than normal but even so, the rates were reasonable. I asked for a room on a high floor (17) and had no problems with noise, even the elevator right outside the door was quite. The room was recently renovated, large enough to live comfortably and nicely appointed. The bathroom was small, but adequate. The staff was professional and courteous. Subway stops and many restaurants nearby. There were only two small problems. There is no way to regulate the heat in the room, and the bathroom radiator was set on "Tropics." The only way to counter it was to turn the a/c on full blast. Also, and this is my fault completely... I just don't like Times Square. It is a tourist trap, always crowded, dirty and overpriced... so the location of the Edison was not my favorite. A few other quick tips now that I have you. 1. Get a Metrocard if you are going to be using the subway a lot-- good savings. 2. But beware the $45 City Pass --- it may cost you money! At the Museum of Natural History it is good for only entry, and if you want to do anything else (IMAX, special exhibits), having the Pass will actually cost you more. 3. Know that MANY of the things you will want to do will be closed on Mondays in the winter. 4. SKIP Tavern on the Green--overpriced, overrated, very disappointing. 5. DON'T skip Lombardi's pizza---the best coal oven pizza you will ever find. 6. HAVE FUN!
The Edison NYC

I came here for the beginning of my Honeymoon tour of America, The Hotel is excellently situated for Shops, Theatre, Restaurants and has a real buzz to it. The staff are friendly and accomodating, giving us a better room and safety deposit boxes 24 hours a day, The hotel has a really cool bar where you can meet lots of people and the Barman is the font of all knowledge and helps you get info on everything from opera at the met to ball games, he mixes a good drink too. The hotel is clean and functional and has a perfectly good gym on the top floor, a bit difficcut to find but worth it if only for the view. I plan to stay here again very soon. Great value for money.
Worth it!

Fabulous location and very clean. We managed to get a two-room suite there at the last minute for a long weekend stay over Christmas. You can't beat the location! The staff was very pleasant, helpful and responsive, especially when we had a problem with our radiator on the first night. I definitely would stay there again. The hotel is old and in need of some updated decor, but it is very clean and worth the price for its proximity to the Theater District and Times Square.
I stayed at the Hotel Edison for 7 days with my two teenage daughters and my husband. I found the room, on the sixth floor, to be very comfortable. Beds included. Yes the bathroom was small but so are all the bathrooms in New York - I've stayed at the Grand Hyatt and... more
