Sep 2007, Mrs M Williamson

Just returned today having spent 5 nights at the Eastgate Tower with husband, Son and Daughter and their partners.
Dated yes but oh how spacious! Living dining area must have been 4 x 11 meters. A large bed settee (comfortable) in this room. Two bedrooms one double and one with two queen size. Adequate kitchen (big fridge) two bathrooms with showers overhead. Apparently the whole place is being refurbished next year.
All staff courteous and helpful. We enjoyed cooking on a couple of occasions but there was a shortage of serving bowls etc. Within 5 minutes of ringing reception, housekeeping arrived with a suitable array of 'gear'. There’s a choice of in house movies for around £7.00 per film (I think)
They arranged a town car back to the airport for us $50 + $4.50 tolls. Might be worth asking Eastgate Tower reception if they can arrange a pick up for you on arrival. We have given it 8 but if there’s a refurb it would probably be 10.
Rooms serviced and towels changed as required. There were coffee bags, J cloths, tea towels, washing up liquid and dish washer tablets supplied.

Locally there is a plethora of bars and restaurants. Bar 515 were accommodating and a meal at the Wharf went down well.
If you like to shop Bloomingdales is on 59th and Lexington. Tiffany’s...with 6 floors 4 full of goodies is a great experience. Members of staff treat you with great courtesy and are fun. The Apple store is an eye opener even for the technologically dense amongst us.
For lunch the chandelier experience that is Tavern on the Green. Outside you can pick up the carriage rides around central park. You can also do brunch at the Blue Note Jazz cafe which includes choice of meal, drink and a usually well known jazz act. (Check the final inclusive cost before you confirm).
We also went to a gig at the Mercury lounge, saw Calvin Harris great value at 10$ a head. There were events on in Central park including a crazy salsa type roller skate session.
Hope the above helps but when you only have 5 days you need to pack it in.
A couple of things to remember... Most prices shown need tax adding. Gratuities in restaurants often run at 20%. And tipping is the norm for just about everything else. Prices are not always evident so ask. There are some bargains to be had whilst the £ is strong...Enjoy...we did!

Hotel in really good location. Stayed in March 2006 for 6 nights.
We are a family of 4 and the room was huge. 2 double beds in bedroom, plenty of wardrobe space, a double sofa bed in living area.
TV in both rooms, kitchen with microwave and dishwasher, immaculately clean. Hairdryer, iron and ironing board.
We were very impressed with this hotel and would definitely stay there again. We are hoping to book for May 2007. A very enjoyable stay!

New York - what can you say?! It has just about everything!
Make sure you see, at the very least, the following:
Empire State Building, Rockefeller Centre, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Central Park, Times Square, and Ellis Island/Statue of Liberty, Tiffany's, FAO Schwarz, and the fabulous Apple Store.
Woodbury Common is also worth a visit for shopping ($39 return on the bus from MTA terminal). Last but not least visit Ground Zero. No matter how hard you think you are this will gnaw at you. Visit the adjacent St. Paul's Church and Tribute Museum. Take the helicopter trip with Liberty Helicopters (€140 for 17 minute flight) - it's breathtaking.
Taxis are extremely cheap - but you won't get one at peak times. We stayed at the Eastgate Tower Hotel. It was basic but spotlessly clean. Staff were very friendly and courteous. No bar though - and the rooms could have done with a refurb.
All in all NYC is worth the visit - but it can be extremely tiring!
One word of caution - if you're buying electronic goods such as cameras, stick to the chain stores like B & H photography, CompUSA, etc. Do not buy from shops which look dodgy and do not display their prices or shop policy.
GO THERE! You'll enjoy it!
