After having read many bad reports about this hotel we were a bit sceptical about it, but it was great.
The 2 double bedded room for 3 of us was fine, clean, plenty of room, free safe, free coffee in Lobby, friendly staff, helpful reception, bathroom was small but adequate. We stayed 10 nights and never really had anything bad to say about it.
As it is so hot in NYC in August we were a bit concerned about how to keep drinks cool but the room had a good sized ice bucket which you could fill free and we used to get water, milk, soda and wine from a local 24 hour shop and keep enough cool at all times.
As breakfast is no longer provided we bought cereal and had that before we went out each day. I would sum up by saying the hotel is well situated between Central Park and Times Square is clean and well run.

I booked this hotel as part of a surprise for my husband’s birthday and our first trip to New York.
I had read other reviews on this hotel which varied from very bad to very good.
The location of the hotel for Times Square, Central Park and all the main attractions is great.
If you are looking for a hotel that is just a base then this hotel is great. If you are looking to enjoy the facilities of the hotel and the rooms then stay elsewhere.
The hotel is very basic. Breakfast is served in an old hotel bar that faces onto Times Square, which can be quite entertaining watching the world go by but you do feel like you’ve been dumped in a disused area of the hotel.
The first room we were allocated did not have safe and had twin beds. We went to the reception area and were offered another room but contrary to what the brochures say it became apparent that not all rooms are equipped with a safe or double beds, so insist on them at the time of booking.
The hotel decor is very dark. Yes it is a minimal hotel but not quite in the sense of minimal and tasteful but minimal on a budget!

The hotel is in a great position, BUT, it really needs some tlc. Hot water and heating was a problem during our stay and the staff did not really seem to care.
The free coffee was great and the door staff could not be any more helpfull. Central park, Broadway and 5th ave were only a short walk away. Bath rooms were very small but who needs to spend to much time in there.
