Sonnblick Hotel

Have just returned from Kaprun skiing and stayed at the Sonnblick Hotel. The welcome we had from the owner, her daughter and staff couldn't have been more friendly. The hotel is a little tired, but the food was plentiful and extremely good. There is an out door heated pool, sauna and jacuzzi. The bus stops outside the hotel to get to the ski areas and a four minute walk to the local ski pistes. There are were no soaps and shampoos only a soap dispenser which was not sufficient in the bathroom so be prepared to take your own. Towels are... more

We stayed here for a week in September on our honeymoon. Unfortunately it snowed the night before our arrival (freak weather conditions) but it did mean snow capped mountains. The Room was very traditional Austrian style and tidy. The service and local knowledge from the family run hotel was excellent. But saving the best for last is the food. Arrived at the hotel and we were greeted with a free welcome drink, very much appreciated and needed!!! We were immediately offered the chance to upgrade our room for a reasonable price. The room was very clean and spacious, with a fabulous view. The room had internet access, a mini fridge, and TV. The food was generally good and plentiful but not much choice for vegetarians. Great hotel, excellent location and superb food. A typical 4 star Austria hotel located near town centre, but what makes this one distinct is the true “family hotel” feeling that you get there all the time and the great food. Also good value for money in terms of the arrangements they have with the local SPA and other attractions in the area. I will definitely come back.

Have just returned from a week at the Sonnblick, booked through Crystal. Fantastic hotel! I emailed them in advance of travelling to ask if we could have a room looking straight at the Kitzsteinhorn and when we arrived that was exactly what we had! Room was lovely, most comfortable beds ever in Austrian hotels I have stayed in!! Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, and they all seemed genuinely happy to be helping. Room: We had paid quite a bit extra to upgrade to a superior room and I'd have to say I was a little bit disappointed. There wasn't an awful lot of space and people sitting in the restaurant and people around the pool were able to see directly into the room (I'd advise people to ask for a room on a higher floor), the safe didn't work (we were given two tokens for the solarium as compensation) and there were no toiletries provided for the bathroom (unusual for a 4 star hotel). This is a wonderful little family-run hotel. Nothing is too much for the staff here and they really do make your stay special. They genuinely do care that you have a good stay and feed you so well you nearly burst! The place is clean and well furnished and every room has its own PC with internet access (free!). The hotel also has a spa and outdoor pool (all free to use) and you have a wonderful uninterrupted view of the Kitzsteinhorn even from the pool! This place was a real find, as we were only staying for 3 nights. Most oher places wouldn't even offer us a room if we were there less than a week. Michaela, the daughter of the family that owns the place is unbelievably helpful. Especially if like me, your knowledge of German is non-existant, nothing was too much trouble. Staying here for a week half-board ..... Had to write a review straight away as this is a little gem ! The food is top-notch and unusually for us we have eaten at the hotel every night !! The staff and family that run the joint are incredibly helpful and will do everything to make your stay comfortable .... even getting in soya milk for us due to dairy intolerances. This hotel has a great atmosphere and the staff couldn't do anymore to help. Typical Austrian, friendliness with oodles of kindness and warmth. If you want a care free holiday in the mountains stay here, however if your thinking of skiing on the nursery slopes, your in for a walk. The ski bus stops outside, but this will only take you to the glacier or the other area ski lifts! The food at this hotel is great and the outdoor heated pool was loved by the kids.
