Insist on a quiet room
from frequentTravelr
I guess you can manage to get a decent stay at this hotel if you are allowed to pick your room, which I'm not sure is possible. The one we got was more like a slap in the face than a room in a 4* hotel. We were told no other rooms were available - end of story. Among the room's "highlights" are : * loud noises (and I mean - Loud) from the busy street until 3 am, in addition to the noises from the stairs and the lobby. * to shut the window you need to climb on top of the desk between the tiny TV and a lamp with a lamp-shade that falls off any time you touch it. * the room door opens directly between the lobby lavatory and the stairs - practice your bumping-into-people skills. * no alarm clock (or any clock, for that matter) * door handles nearly falling off. * a generous layer of dust in all the obvious places. I could talk about other thoughtful touches in this hotel - like no hot water in the sauna's shower, but I don't want to sound too negative. Where the staff could not be helpful, they at least had a guilty feeling on their faces. It's almost like they were aware they were ripping us off, but they just couldn't help it. So, I direct my advice not to the prospective traveler (hey, it's your money), but to the staff - board up the most squalid rooms which can't be saved by remodeling due to their placement/location, or use them for their intended function, i.e. storage/genitorial. Ok, just one note to the travelers: If your sanity and/or relationship with your traveling companion are important to you - look elsewhere when staying in Zell am See.
Great Hotel
from BethsGang
We have just returned from staying at the mentioned hotel, and can we say from the start please ignor any negative remarks placed by previous guests. The hotel is ideally located in the heart of Zell am See (about 100m from the lake) however does not suffer from any noise pollution due to good double glazzing, certainly in the rooms allocated to us and one of our room was a balcony room right over the top of the main padestrian walkway. We can not fault the service at all. The staff were polite and went out of their way to assist with any queries, and were always promt with their responces. They all spoke excellent english and had a fabulous humor to match. The accomodation was more than appropriate to 4 star if not more. we were provided with a minibar, TV and telephone as well as plenty of storage space. The large bathrooms provided fabulous showers (over the bath) which were really powerfull. The catering could not be faulted with varied menu options every day. The breakfast options were more than enough ranging from the typical continental breakfast option both hot and cold to many cerial options. Although we only booked bed and breakfast we were given the option to have an evening meal as well for 10 Euros per person. This would usually include a 4 course meal for the equivilant of £7 you can't beat that anywere. A menu was avaliable in the morning for that evenings option and we just filled in the sheet on our table should we wish a meal for that evening. There was no big sale so never felt commited to be there every night so we did a bit of this and also went out to eat as well. For those reviewers who previously critisised the staff for being rude should perhaps be looking more at them selves and there attitude to the staff. Having been there for a week ,we as a group observed many occasions were the english guests attitude and approch to the staff was an embarrisment. Monica and Christina who delt with the customers in th dining rooms and bar have the patience of saints and should they have ever been rude ( which was never witnessed) it would certainly have been justified. Reading though this review you would think it to good to be true, but on behalf of my group i can assure you it has not been sugar coated and we have critisised hotels before if it was nessisary. If you decide to go to this hotel and i hope you will, you may actually see us there as we will definately be returning in the future
Friendly Hotel

We had a lovely week at the Fischerwirt Hotel in Zell am See. The location is excellent - in the middle of the town, not far at all from the ski lifts on one side, and from the lake on the other. The staff were very friendly, and did everything to make us feel welcome and special guests. The food was very good - every evening we had another culinary treat. When we came off the slopes there was always a hot snack waiting for us - not cakes and coffee but something more interesting and suitable for the winter weather. A charming hotel, with the 'personal' touch that is so important. Well done Monica and co.!
Fantastic hotel

If you have read previous reviews about this hotel from other visitors and have been put off please take the time to read of my experiences. My friend and I have just returned from spending a week here and have had a thoroughly enjoyable time. The owner and the staff could not have been kinder, more helpful or friendlier. In spite of what other contributors have said the room was more than adequate in size and we were given a packed lunch every day during our stay. The buffet breakfast was excellent offering a very wide choice and with something to suit all tastes. The evening meals were varied and delicious and most nights consisted of four courses. I am a vegetarian and often find that the meals offered to me on holidays abroad are bland and lacking in imagination but this was certainly not the case here. The hotel is situated in the central area of the town and only yards from the lake giving it an ideal position. We feel this hotel more than lived uo to its 4* status and we would have no hesitation if recommending it to anyone. Do give it a try. We are certain you won't be disappointed.
Stressfull Holiday

On arrival on wednesday 31/5/06 was told no room with balcony available until Sat 3rd Moved room with rather a difficult atmosphere. Hotel not as 4star, more like 2. No lounge to socialise with other guests. No free weekly guided walk, no Free coffee and cake 3 x weekly in the afternoon and no new hot tub supposedly new for 2006. Free packed lunches were given grudgingly and had to grovel every day. But most of all the attitude and rudeness of the owner spoilt the whole week. If we had booked 2 weeks we would have asked to move. Would not recommend this hotel.
Rude, inconsiderate and a total rip off

I stayed at the Hotel Fisherwirt for three nights at the end of March - or atleast I was supposed to stay for three nights. Travelling with a group of 27 people from Canada we had the hotel booked (and contract signed) months in advance. Two weeks before our arrival the hotel management informed us that the hotel was actually overbooked and some of us (4 rooms) would need to stay next door at their sister property. 5 days before our arrival they sent a new email requesting yet another new rooming list and now we had only 4 rooms at the Fischewirt and the rest of our rooms were at 2 different hotels!! One which wasnt even in Zell Am See, let alone a sister property next door. Upon arriving at the Fisherwirt to pick up keys for the guests who would actually get to stay in the hotel for 3 nights, the staff was rude, unsympathetic, and expected us to understand their plight instead of bending over backwards to assist us and answer our questions. Those that stayed in the other hotels had to move to the Fischerwirt the next morning in time for breakfast because the Fischerwirt would not allow us to eat at the other establishments. In addition to the entire rooming fiasco, this hotel is rated 4 stars... it is a 3 at best and by the state of some rooms, a 2. Insects on the bathroom floors, haphazard cleaning, etc. The bartender was very kind and helpful. It was a shame that whatever he served was such a rip off. A coke at the Fisherwirt with your meal is 4,80 Euros - be warned, refills are not included!! There were discrepencies when it came time to settle the bill and neither the hotel owner or manager would appear in person to deal with our concerns. There was no rebate for the inconvenience of having to transfer hotels and lose a day of skiing (quite significant when you only are there for 2 days). I could go on and on. This is a family run hotel. I would strongly advise against it. Maybe in 4 years when their son graduates from hotel management things will shape up for the better.
not the best!

just come back from staying at this hotel, rated at 4 star but more like 2-3 and thats being nice. rooms far to small with hardly any storage at all. looked quite clean but always had a funny smell. Food seemed nice at first but then became very repetative, at breakfast you had to search for someone to provide you with hot food and when you found them they were not very helpful, had to clear a space at the table to eat as dishes etc from prev diners not cleared away for hours. resort was good but dont expect any sleep staying at fischerwirt as it is directly in firing line of busy bars and with 4am kick out the birds were up before you got any shut eye. not a very good experience sorry monika .
Great place to be.

We have just arrived back from our stay at Hotel Fischerwirt. Although we had an economy room , it was clean and comfortable, The best part of our stay was the food , it was superb - five courses every evening and no two days the same. It is situated in the centre of the delightful town and close to all amenities. It is just a short stroll to the ski lift. The ski-ing was some of the best I've ever experienced. I strongly recommend a visit to this charming resort.
A comfortable family run hotel - loved it.

We (my husband and 9 year old son) spent half term at the Hotel Fischerwirt in Zell am See and would definitely recommend both the hotel and the resort. The hotel is small, clean and comfortable and the staff are excellent - welcoming and helpful. The rooms are average size, very clean and quite comfortable. The food is good - 5 courses each evening, and the breakfasts are warm rolls, croissants, cereal and the usual continental stuff. Monica and her team are great - I tore a ligament ski-ing on my 2nd day, so spent much of the next 5 days in the hotel! They were very helpful, organised a trip to the hospital, dinner in my room etc and really couldn't do enough for me. The hotel is located near the lake, near to some great restaurants, shops and coffee bars. Its a short 5 minute walk to the main ski lift - some people carried their skis daily but we hired a locker at the InterSport depot next to the cable car entrance - get there early in your stay as they run out fast! We will defnitely be returning to stay at this hotel. The resoirt of Zell am See is beautiful - the lake and alpine scenery are stunning, the facilities excellent and ski-ing suitable for all abilities. The ski club were good with kids, not so good for my group as the instructor's English wasn't great, but apart from that, was excellent. I would recommend the hotel for families and couples, we will be returning next year!
POOR
from A TripAdvisor Member
The hotel Fisherwirt, is classed as a 4 star hotel, it is hardly a 3 star. It is very clean. The hotel bar, was never opened during my 2 weeks stay there. There is no lounge, only 2 chairs in the small reception area. where usualy there is no receptionist present. The food was very poor, dinner was served, down stairs in the non residents restaurant. Where often, residents found that their table had been given over to non residents. Non residents were given a far better menu, to residents, and a better choice. There was no barbecue, nor a walk and picnic with the proprietor, as advertised in the holiday brochure's. In all, our holiday was completly spoilt by our stay in the Fischerwirt. Who seem to concentrate more, on the non residents restaurant, than the hotel guest's. I will cetainly not visit this hotel again.
The hotel was clean and functional but hardly worth the 4 star rating. The ordinary waiting staff were pleasant and helpful but as for the barman and the owner of the hotel they left something to be desired. The barman was always pushing the more costly wines upon us when... more
