We (4 adults) have just returned from our stay in Zell am See, where we were to stay at Wildbachhof. We chose Wildbachhof from research on the internet, as it sounded like and looked as a very pleasant place. When we arrived in the afternoon we were given the key to our appt. and shown the way to another building. After climbing the stairs to the second floor we reached the appt. and it was a sorry sight compared to the impression we had from the website. Due to the sloping walls we could hardly stand up straight the 4 of us. A couch turned in to a bed for two in the "livingroom" and a table with two wooden chairs and two folding chairs on top of the closet, a very small kitchenette and that's it. A skylight window and one other small window in the room. The other bedroom was ok. We were all very disappointed. But as I had made clear when I booked, I myself was not going to ski this season and expected to spend some time in the appt. and would like either two seperate bedrooms or maybe a balcony - we had neither. Complaining to the girl in the "reception" didn't help much, but she could try to find another appt. but we would have to pay additional 20 Euros per person per night = 560 Euros (IF they could arrange something). But I was not going to spend my 7 day vacation in this appt., so I contacted our guide and made it clear that this was unacceptable. After about 4 hours we were relocated to another place in town. I just don't understand why an appt. hotel like this promote themselves on the internet with such nice pictures of comfortable appt. when they can't live up to this (at least not in the building we were supposed to stay). I'm sorry I didn't take pictures to prove my point. I have been in the hotelbusiness all of my working life, - and I simply don't get it. Honesty and setting ourself in the guests place brings you a long way.

We have just returned from a very enjoyable weeks stay at the Wildbackhof in Zell Am See. The small guest house / hotel was clean, comfortable and relaxed.
The food (lots of it!) was varied, the wellness area is excellent, and the hotel is ideally located near to a gondala that takes you right to the summit. We would stay here again and would recommend it.
Had a great stay. Clean,...

Had a great stay. Clean, comfortable, great value but overall the staff made my stay a pleasure.
This Hotel has a Sauna and Jacuzzi which I didn't expect from a small family run place.
The food was very enjoyable and the location is very handy for the lifts with a run passing right by the Hotel.
The walk from the village up the hill will keep you fit but I had no problems getting a taxi when we were feeling a little lazy.
Next time I go back to Austria I will stay here again!

I couldn't understand the very negative review. We are going for the third time to these apartments. I think they have the look in another price category then they did.
The service is very good. About the food we have no complaints and if you wish your a baggage carrier you can better go to Thailand or book something more expensive.
What can there be a difficult kind of people in this world. If you aren't happy with yourself. Then don't comment and blame it on some one else. We will recommend this place! Greetings from Holland

We have just returned from a half-term ski holiday at the Wildbachof Hotel, Zell Am See and I have to say that overall we thought it was very poor and would not consider returning. The only plus point was the location to the lifts and ski school and the fact you can ski back to it in the evening although by the end of the week were tempted to ski past it! We booked late and it was literally the only accommodation left in Zell Am See. Before we went I had read the previous (and only review I could find) and felt safe in the knowledge that although a small family place we would be well fed and well looked after.
We certainly did not receive a warm welcome, left waiting after a days travelling in the damp, untidy space at the bottom of the stairs they call 'Reception' , no explanation of facilities, times and where to eat. We were given our key and left to drag our cases up the stairs (the whole place smells of wet dog as the family pet seems to be allowed to wander everywhere) in the dark.
There were only two reasons we stayed, one because as mentioned it was half term and we knew Zell was booked out and two the beds were clean. If that had not been the case we would have been straight onto the Rep to move us.
As for the room, we were told by the rep our first evening meal would be left in our room due to our late evening arrival. It consisted of two bits of chicken, some limp beans and browning salad on one plate - an evening meal for two people??) and our 'welcome' drink was a carton of apple juice. Both had obviously been waiting around for some time. Sorry but I was expecting something a bit nicer than that.
Unfortunately the evening meals continued to be the same poor quality with the exception of the night we saw it being unloaded out of the back of a vehicle. One of the other guests said that was the chefs night off!
Privacy was another issue with an ill fitting door, paper thin walls and curtains that weren’t big enough for the windows. (one couple told us they didn’t have any curtains and they were on the ground floor) Our room also had the most incredibly creaky floor with every footstep easily heard and the bathroom floor tiles were broken as there was so much movement.
Our stay was made uncomfortable by other small but annoying things - the room smelt of stale smoke, the bathroom light and ventilation didn’t work, there was no hand soap provided in the bathrooms. The 'bar' consists of six stools and was always thick with smoke. There weren’t enough dining tables for the number of guests so you often had to wait or felt obliged to rush. No tea/coffee making facilities in the room and when we asked for a jug of water to take to the room at night we were given one with the glass all broken away around the rim and when we asked if it could be changed for another the waitress said 'nein'. By this time we were having to laugh at the awfulness of the place determined not to let it ruin our holiday.
The Rep admitted they have had a number of complaints and are looking into it. Sadly that is little consolation when you have just spent your hard earned money staying there.
Apart from the hotel we thoroughly enjoyed ski school, the mountains and the new friends we made it's just a shame that the Hotel Manager (if there is one we only saw the two waitresses all week) doesn’t realize that reputation is important when there is so much competition and travel agents who stay and are poorly treated can have a great deal of influence over future bookings!!!!!!!!!!!!!

'Family run' is very much a good way to describe this place. Reception is a corridor, check-in is basically being handed your key & shown to your room. The plus side is that every member of staff goes out of their way to meet your needs especially the girls in the restaurant. Food wise, thanks to a very talented chef, the quality is more 5* than 3*. The New Year’s Gala dinner (all 8 courses) was amazing & made it very difficult to walk down to the Lake afterwards to watch the fireworks.
Location - It is a moderate distance outside the village at the top of the hill with buses running to approx 5pm. Ok to walk down, bit of a killer to walk back & taxis are about 8-10E one way so expect to spend a few quiet nights in. Plus side is that Ski School is literally around the corner & the hotel is on a blue run so all levels can literally ski in/out (with the option of a Gluhwein from the kiosk by the hotel)
Overall opinion - Very good value, great food & lovely staff. Heating was a little temperamental otherwise would have been a 10/10.
