Beautiful but badly managed(?)
from FrSw
Nice and beautifull hotel. Rooms are realy big, confortable with a soft decoration. We were in the main building, so it was a little bit noisy, but this was more the other guest behevior. Bad point: it seems that there were not enougth personal, for a five stars one it wasn't so effecient it should be. We had taken the the full pension but after 2 lunches we decided to go out and what about this idea to place definitively people for the dinner, we had a very nice place close a column outside near the building, It wass noisy and warm. It was such a nice place that we went outside for diner. I don't talk about single women placed without a touch of tact. Strange you can enjoy a nice dinner with extra of 48€ it the same price if you are or not a guest ( note that normal diner is about 24€, so with the extra it is about 72€, it is not so cheap....). Just an an advice take only the breakfast, there are 2 restaurants close to the hotel. Pools area are beautyfull. The beach is really wonderfull with not a lot of people. Taxi for lindos if you order it, is about 12€ (normal fare 6€) and there is a lot to do there by the night. I'd said that as it is a 5 *, we were awaiting another type of services. Last year in Rhodos we were in Ixia in another 5* and it was realy top. But we didn't like Ixia.
This was not 5 star quality.....
from heather.r.pdx
We expected alot more from this hotel and were dissapointed. The property itself is gorgeous and many amenities. We arrived and our room was not ready for several hours and after flying 18 hours we were extremely tired and just in need of a shower. After waiting for several hours in a tempoarary room we moved to our permanent room which was decent but not 5 star. The beds were twin beds pushed together and extremely hard and I fell in the gap between both beds several times...!!!!!Our bathroom had a clog in it the entire week. The airconditioning system had a foul sewage like odor in it and called the front desk to ask if they could look into it,they then sent a gentleman up and he came in and he smelled it and said here we go...He srayed a can of deodorizer into the room that was nearly as bad as the smell itself! We asked the staff for a dining and shopping recommendation and were answered with...."There are many places to dine"or "There are many places to shop".The incident taht left the most negative feeling about this hotel was on checking out we arrived downstairs to checkout and receive our passports back, the gentleman handed us two passports back and we had three to begin with.We asked where his passport was and they said they are all there and we counted the people in our group and said no there is three of us so he continued to look and we had a plane to catch shortly. We waited 40 minutes for this gentleman to locate it and in meantime a woman staff member insisted that she gave it back to us which was not the case and we explained we would miss our flight and the response was well you should have gotten ready earlier..... They then made a big deal about a 20 Euro bill from the restaurant and we asked if they can just charge it to the same card and so we could get on and they said no...We made it to Rhodes Airport 20 minutes before our flight and luckily the airlines was gracious enough to hold the flight until we were on it.I was shocked at the lack of customer service the hotel with the exception of the cleaning staff whom were all delightful and very friendly and did their job with a smile! We refuse to stay here again and would much rather put out money into a smaller hotel that appreciates our business and is not to busy to assist with a guest's needs!
Great for a Quiet and Relaxing Vacation
from BhismaL
My wife and I stayed here for a week from 24th August. We are both in our late twenties, and we were looking for a quiet and relaxing vacation. Atrium Palace hotel is on Kalathos beach, about 45 mins from the airport and Rhodes city. Lindos is abut 10 mins away by bus. Visiting Lindos (for shopping/dining/etc.) is convenient by both bus (1.1 EURO) and taxi (6~9 EURO), but Rhodes is a bit too far. Kalathos is a pebble beach, and the pebbles are small enough that the feet do not hurt. Water is very clear, but it deepens rather quickly, reaching 2m in depth only 5~7m from the shoreline. What we liked was that the beach wasn't crowded. Other beaches that we've seen in Rhodes city, Faliraki, and Lindos were practically covered with umbrellas, but fortunately on Kalathos beach there were only about 100 umbrellas altogether in 2~3 rows. Renting a sunbed costs 4 EURO per person. The hotel is right next to the beach. The swimming pools are excellent. The main pool is quite large and often very occupied, although finding 2 sunbeds still wasn't a problem at 11am. There is also a medium size pool next to Wing 2, and often things are much quieter there. There are 5~6 smaller pools, many of them quite shallow and perfect for children. There is even an indoor swimming pool to cool off completely. You can borrow towels from pool-side bars. You pay a 5 EURO deposit per towel on the first occasion, and during your stay you may exchange for new towels as long as they are in stock, and on the last day you return the towels and get the deposit back. The beach and the swimming pools are the two strongest points in favor of the Atrium Palace hotel. There were, however, somethings that we found unfitting for a 5-star hotel. We were on a bed & breakfast basis, and we were not too happy with the breakfast. Overall the food at Symposion restaurant was not delicious, and we were disappointed that the fruit juices provided were of the Kool-Aid type. We dined once at the same restaurant, paying 15 EURO per person for th buffet and paying extra for beverages. The dinner buffet was better than the breakfast, but it was still not too inviting. I suspect whether the poor food quality is a general problem in Rhodes. We had a lunch in a restaurant next to the beach, and also dined once in a rather fancy rooftop restaurant in Lindos, and both times we were disappointed. However we were delighted to find that the restaurant Konstantin, right next to the hotel, served very good food. We ended up going there 3 times. The room was also slightly disappointing. We found ants in our room, and once we found them also on our bed we called the reception. The reception sent us a maid with insecticide, and she apologetically acknowledged that the whole hotel was suffering from an ant problem. Also, the furniture was not as functional as we would have liked. An example is that there was no towel hanger in the bathroom next to the washbasin. Finally, the promised "lateral sea-view" was practically non-existent. Next time we would rather ask for a pool-view. Despite these drawbacks we were still very satisfied with our stay at the Atrium Palace, thanks to the impressive swimming pools and the beach. I have read reviews here complaining about the hotel being isolated. Indeed, someone looking forward to nightlife had better search for hotels in Faliraki, Rhodes city or even Lindos instead. As for us, we were rather glad of this isolated location. And the neighborhood is not completely deserted -- there is a supermarket nearby, and there are at least 5 restaurants near the hotel. If we are to return to Rhodes, we will probably stay at the Atrium Palace hotel again.
Nice but not 5 Star
from Forever Clarets
I stayed at this hotel from 8th - 15th July with my husband and 8 year old son. The hotel is off the 'beaten track' and if you want to see the island then you would need to hire a car, go on the trips or take taxis which do have set fares. We used the taxis to go to Lindos and Faliraki Waterpark which worked out slightly cheaper than going on the trips and you can obviously choose what time you go and leave etc, much better. The hotel and grounds are fantastic however we found the food to be below average. The buffet style food was always luke warm and even when your food was served by the waiters it still came luke warm. We ate out for the majority of our stay and can highly recomend the Nicholas restaurant/taverna/bar where you will find Nellie serving you who is very friendly. You can get snacks here or a full meal (go out of the hotel reception and turn left, keep walking and it is on your right). The other restaurant we found was the Konstantin where the food was definately 5 star. You will find Manolis the chef, his wife Maria, son Kostas and also there daughter (sorry I forgot her name) looking after you. You can eat outside on the grassed area or inside. This was our favourite restuarant. (go out of the hotel, turn right and you will see the restaurant across the road). We did walk up into the village one night but found nowhere nice to eat so we walked back and ate at the Konstantin!!!! We received a letter from the hotel asking us why we had not eaten at the restaurants and to go and see the head waiter. I went to see him and told him that we did not like luke warm food. He asked us to go to the restaurant and we could have a meal cooked especially for us! We did but it was still like warm. We were on a half board basis & our room was a side sea view room which was nice but had no tea/coffee making facilites. We took a travel kettle with us which I would reccomend. The are several different pools around the hotel and the villas have private pools. Unfortunatley for our son there were not many children there but he made friends with a 16, 12 & 6 year old as they had no kids similar age to play with either. Animation team for kids was limited and there were no indoor activities or club house to go to! The night time entertainment - man on electric keyboard was awful, and to top it all the bar prices are very, very expensive!!! 4.80 euros for a beer!!! and 8.00 euros for a cocktail on average. During the day we went to the shop at the hotel and bought cold drinks from the fridges which was much cheaper. The shop is fairly well stocked too and cheaper than the bar!!!! I went for a massage at the spa which again is expensive, 63 euros for a full body massage!!! and if you wanted to use the gym you had to pay 10 euros per day which I think is a rip off. I have been to lots of hotels and the gym facilities have always been free! However the spa is lovely & staff are very nice there! All in all a nice relaxing holiday. Would go back but be prepared to eat & drink out!!!!
very good for this kind of hotel
from two_adults_two_kids
All in all, the Atrium Palace was very good for this kind of hotel -- i.e. a cheesy, mass tourism hotel that caters to package deal tourists. That is what this place is; nothing more, nothing less. Don't be fooled by the five star rating; that is merely about the facilities, not the overall quality of the hotel. The food was good, as these hotels go. The facilities were excellent; there was a variety of pools, and a pool bar where you could sit in the pool and have a drink. The beach was really outstanding; for some reason it was not busy at all the entire two weeks we were there, so there was never a problem getting deck chairs and parasols late in the morning or even in the afternoon. That is saying a lot for these kind of hotels. Even the room, though a bit on the small side, was tastefully decorated. The service wasn't that great, but, again, you don't expect outstanding service in this kind of establishment. I would also be in a bad mood if I were constantly being hassled by planeload after planeload of package tourists from Britain and Germany. What wasn't so great was that, like some others of these kind of hotels we have stayed at, there is a bit of a pathetic effort to make the hotel seem like a ritzy, exclusive place. The dinner is a good example. First of all, the table you choose the first night is allocated to you for your entire stay; dining at a different table for whatever reason is a major hassle as you have to ask the head waiter etc. It is all really ridiculous. Ordering dinner is also a bit of a ritual, as only the starters are laid out in the buffet. You first are expected to tell your waiter whether you want the soup of the day or not. Once you are finished with that, you go to the buffet; and after your waiter gets around to noticing you have finished your starters, you have to order your main course (choice from three options) from him/her. The whole thing is slow and cumbersome, which isn't great if you have small children like we do. After a few nights of dancing around like this, we realised that the starters were so hefty we didn't need the main course; so we just took a pass on that and stuffed ourselves from the buffet. There are other things which are ridiculously overpriced, presumably in an effort to make the hotel seem upmarket. Using the safe in the room is a rip off at €12.50 a week. The fitness centre, which is located in the spa, is excellent, but it is not free for guests, and there is a whopping €10 charge just to use it. On the other hand, the shop inside the hotel is not much more expensive than the shops in the towns, and is very well stocked. Still, all in all, we had a very good time in the Atrium Palace, and would definitely recommend it. We have done far worse for the same money. In particular, the beach really was excellent here. One word of advice if you are going to this hotel is that, if you have the choice of half or full board, you should DEFINITELY take half board. Though breakfast and dinner in the main restaurant are overall OK, lunch for full board guests is served in a different restaurant, by the pool. The food in this restaurant was so abombinable, so awful, we couldn't believe that people would acually demand money for it. The meat is burnt and hard, the chips are swimming in grease, the salad looks like it has been left out for weeks, and I didn't even dare to touch the fish... really, I am not picky about food, but it is difficult to describe how terrible the food was in this place. Fortunately, we had half board, so we only had to endure it once. There is a decent eatery right behind the hotel, in front of the beach, where you can eat well for a decent price, and a few other restaurants infront of the hotel that looked good. Also, there is a more upmarket restaurant in the hotel, which is expensive but quite good, has a great view of the beach, and has decent service to boot. Really, take my word for it; don't take full board with this hotel.
Teenagers BEWARE
from donny23
This hotel is very remote, only 2 restaurants and supermarkets in walking distant. We started enjoying our holiday from the moment we arrived, it was relaxing to say the least. The pool areas were beautiful. The food in the evening was very fussy and most parents were having to take children out to eat. Teenagers beware! During our second week my son and three friends all of differant nationalities were accused of breaking into the pool bar. They were marched to reception and threatened with police action, being told to come back in the morning for finger printing. We got to pool area next day to be told a boy had owned up and the bill had been settled, the family left that afternoon. We later went to our room to find a polite letter asking us to report to reception, which we did. A rude member of staff demanded we pay 149 euros, we told them that it was settled that morning by the dads father. We were told we had to pay again, we refused and had to seek help from our rep, this took several days. my son and friends were continually harassed by staff, even followed on 2 occassions. With the help of friends from the pool area we had to confront the staff again, this time he shook my husbands hand and said "its sorted out" . We asked them to stop harassing our children, they were polite and agreed. We got no apology and my son and friends were still followed, even as far as the beach. We have never been treated like criminals on any other holiday, this is a disgrace. The staff rating should be 1*, with a small exeption. I would advise you to stay away with teenagers.
Management response from ObjectiveReviewer

To whom it may concern,
It had been viewed and reported by our night security staff that a number of young guests were found in hotels areas that had closed for the night. These areas included the pool bar and the surrounding premises next to many guest rooms. The level of noise was not appropriate due to the time of night and policies the hotel has over security and well being of all guests. Our member of staff approached the young adults and directed them to leave the area and return to their rooms or the main bar of the hotel, which was still within operating hours.
On a second occasion, the pool bar was broken in to with force and damages were done. The guests were contacted and confusion developed without us ever learning the truth.
The hotel management decided to rest the case. No one was accused and no one was forced to pay or double pay anything. It is understood to what levels we reach in order to never dissatisfy a client even when the well being of other guests are in question and the respect of private property.
Nevertheless, our member of security staff and all staff act in a professional manner having in mind firstly, the well being of those individuals (not to get them in to trouble and involvement with the local authorities) secondly, the safety of all other guests and thirdly the protection of private property.
Thank you very much for your time and review.

Atrium Palace Thalasso Spa Resort & Villas
excellent surroundings but isolated location
from goosewing
Just returned from one week stay at Atrium Palace on B and B basis. Hotel and surrounding pools/gardens are excellent quality and very attractive however the position is remote. Unless you like sunbathing from morning to night you need car hire or be prepared to pay a fortune on taxi fares to take you back and forward to Lindos (3 miles away). These seemed to be 10 euros from hotel to Lindos and 7 euros return from Lindos to hotel. There is a service bus however we found it too hot to walk half a mile up to the top of the road to catch it during the day. Not sure that the hotel knows what market it is aiming at - childrens facilities but not particularly child friendly. Older children and teenagers would be bored stiff - limited animation programme. The entertainment in the evening normally consisted of one musician on a keyboard - surprised there were so many people willing to pay extortionate bar prices to listen to jaded melodies. (We're used to paying extra for drinks to take advantage of entertainment but this hotel was definitely over the top with London bar prices in force). There were a number of facilities which were available but were not mentioned in the bedroom welcome pack - seemed to be a secret (such as a la carte breakfast/towel hire etc). Asked reception for an iron and this was not possible - only option was to use the expensive laundry service. Gives a lie to the 5 star label. There is a well stocked shop on the pool level which sells cold drinks, ice creams etc as well as other holiday requirements (again we found this by chance - no information provided by the hotel). Standard package hotel buffet breakfast with lots of different choices but only the freshly made omelettes are worth mentioning. Visited the a la carte restaurant once - Asterias - food was very good and service a bit over effusive - probably because we were one of only three occupied tables during the evening - absolutely no astmosphere. Considering the hotel was supposed to be full we were surprised. Could recommend Konstantin's restaurant across the road which was always busy and where we regularly ate. We weren't sure if the £70 upgrade for a seaview room was really worthwhile however the courtesy room provided on the last day (after waiting over an hour - apparently there was only one courtesy room set aside in the entire complex - another lie to the 5 star status) proved that some of the rooms were not up to scratch. All in all an enjoyable, relaxing holiday but probably wouldn't go back to the Atrium Palace because there was nothing outstanding about the hotel's location, customer service or general ambience.
Good but not 5star
from Broxibear45
My wife and myself have just returned from the Atrium Palace having spent 2 weeks from 12th July - 27 July 2006. The reason we went for this hotel was based on the reviews given by fellow travellers on this website and was our first visit to Rhodes. Firstly this is our own personal opinion, having travelled the globe on business and holidays we normally stay in 5 star hotels/resorts. You pay the the extra expecting a better service and standard of hotel and unfortunately I don't think The Atrium Palace is 5 star standard. I would rate the hotel a good 4 star and maybe if it was rated as such we would not have expected as much therefore the gripes we had about the hotel wouldn't exist. We stayed in a sea view room on the 2nd Floor (Top) of the 2nd wing which I would recommend (Room No.s 500-700 I believe). The rooms lacked 5 star amenities such as trouser press/Iron boards and tea/coffee making facilities. If you required either you had to use the laundering facilities at a cost and room service for your brews. This wing is away from the main buliding but joined conviently by a walk way/over pass and has a couple of really quiet pools on the sea view side and a main pool which was child free on the first week and very relaxing. The main pool to the resort is located next to the main bulding and is ideal for children and many activities take place there. So ideally if you were looking for some peace and quiet at the pool the pool at the 2nd wing would be your best choice. All pools are located within the lovely landscaped gardens which are kept really nice. Advice: By staying in a Sea view room you are obviously paying extra. The sea view is there however its not exactly stunning. It maybe quiet during the day if you are going to sit about your room all day however I would recommend you book a room within the 2nd wing on the ground floor which gives you access to the pools from your terrace which are litterally within 10 paces distance. Ideal if you have young children and I believe cheaper than the sea view rooms. The first week was lovely spent relaxing by the pool, there were always loungers available and the hotel was nearing its capacity on the run up to the peak time. The second week we hired a car for 3 days (Recommend Rodos Car Hire Lindos who deliver and pick up from Hotel). When we returned to the pool we were shocked to find that all the loungers had towels on them (0800hrs). So we had to move to another area. We were even more dissapointed to observe at 2 oclock in the afternoon some of the loungers still had towels on them and hadn't been occupied for the duration of the day. When we confronted the pool staff they refused to act on this. Germans normally are labelled with this however unfortunately it was our fellow Brits who were the culprits. We used the Buffet restuaurant on our first evening for the convience and you could eat as much as you likes for 15 euros each, drinks were seperately priced. The buffet was nothing to write home about and we were glad we never chose the half board option. The breakfast was dissapointing and certainly not 5 star standard. Cereals were eaten from a bowl the sice of a saucer and the cereal choices were very basic and poor quality. The breakfast buffet was what you would expect from any 3 star class hotel. Fruit juice was concentrated and very strong, you did have the option of adding more water if they remembered to refill the water container. Advice: Book on a B&B with having the option to eat in the hotel at night if you choose. We overheard many complaints from guests about the standard of the food. There are many restuarants within walking distance from the hotel which are very nice and moderately priced. Lindos has many restuarants and Pefkos has lots too to choose from. I would recommend attending breakfast before 0830hrs as aftert his time the dining area can become quite hectic and stressfull. You will struggle to find a table and the staff don't exactly g out there way to make the process any easier for you. Breakfast is from 0700-0900. The Hotel Bar was 5 star priced however lacked 5 star service. Staff came accross very distant at times and ignorant. The entertainment was low key. The Spa was very nice however was dissapointed that you had to pay 10 euros to use the basic facilities. My main gripe with the spa was I would have to pay 10 euros to use the small Gym in the morning for example and if I wanted to use the spa facilities with my wife later in the day I had to pay another 10 euros. I know that it would have been cheaper for myself to combine both however this was not convenient all the time and I would have expected a one off charge to cover the day. It is the only 5 star facility which I have had to pay to use such facilities anyway. My understanding would be that the spa is small and they are charging so that they limit the guests using the facilities. Overall we had a lovely holiday and would recommend the hotel to friends and family. Most of the reports on the hotel I've noticed are off peak and the reports are good. I did notice a change however on my second week which was the start of the english holidays. I felt the staff were under pressure and possibly understaffed. The breakfast experience was chaotic and badly organised. Like I mentioned if you are staying at a 5 star hotel you expect 5 star service, Atrium palace never delivered 5 star service. I have no doubt the hotel is the best on the Island however if they downgraded their status to 4 star this would eleviate most of the complaints I've covered. This is an ubiased personal report of my stay over the peak period in July 2006. It differs from previous reports, however we were not the only guests to voice the same opinions and niggly complaints. I'm sure if you decide to visit the Atrium Palace Hotel this report will prepare you for your stay and I'm sure you will have a wonderfull holiday on the beautifull Island of Rhodes.
relax re-energise in this Stunning Hotel
from Jeanniebeenthere
Having just returned fom the Atrium Palace refreshed and relaxed I must say it was well worth it . The whole place is well run by very pleasant staff. The cleanlines of the place was second to none, the public toilets were kept immaculate, with sensor activated taps etc., and beautifull floor to ceiling tiles. Our room was ground floor by request and the terrace looked out onto lawns and gardens with two small pools for your use. The only gripe was the shower I was scalded the first time I used it as it just changed without warning. With a little bit of trial and error I found it worked better if it wasn't turned on fully. The breakfast had a good choice for every taste, but I found as in many hotels, the hot buffet food is never hot enough. Lunch in the Posiedon Pool Restaurant was quite nice, only had dinner once which was a dissapointment. The pool areas are fantastic the top pool is really peacefull you can sunbathe on the sides of the pool that overlooks the main pool and still be part submerged and keeping cool (it was 42c whilst we were there) Everything was to hand a very good shop the bar at night was always busy but good service. The hotel is in quite an isolated place and I would advise a car as taxis are a rip off. Right opposite the front of the hotel was the Konstantin taverna which was excellent, the food was fresh and cooked to perfection, the friendliness of the staff was a joy and we returned night after night. All in all we had a relaxing stay and we are going back in sept.
Wonderful Honeymoon
from A TripAdvisor Member
We have just returned from a two week holiday at the lovely Atrium Palace. We managed to book the holiday within two days of flying and they still managed to upgrade us to a deluxe seaview for our honeymoon. We arrived to Sparkling wine, Honey and nuts, fruit and petals over the room. If you get to stay in the seaview rooms which are the 500/600 block, the view is amazing and the rooms are larger. The hotel grounds and room were well kept and clean and the staff were really polite and helpful. The Breakfast had everything you could imagine - stay away from the baked beans, they are in a really sweet sauce and the beans are hard. If you dont like snotty eggs then be careful of the hard boiled eggs, I only managed to have one hard one throughout the two weeks. The hotel is expensive for drinks, the shop under the hotel is okay for drinks but doesnt sell rolls or bread if you fancy a snack. If you come out of the hotel and passed the car park and turn right there is a supermarket called Harry's which has everything you could want and half the price 1.20E for a sandwich. If you turn left at the car park you will see a restaurant called Konstantin, this restuarant is supurb, please make sure you go there, the food is great and a resonable price. Say Hello to Kostas for us! All in all the holiday was great, it had everything you could imagine, make sure you got to Lindos for the day it is well worth it. I highly recommend the Atrium Palace to anyone.

Hello there. We got married at the Atrium Palace Resort in Kalathos last week. Th hotel is lovely but it’s not really a Five Star, even by foreign standards. It’s more like a four star but it is nice. The food is a bit repetitive but they let you swap dinners for... more
