We have just returned from Austria a few days ago and although the resort is lovely, we will not be staying at this hotel again if we do return.

We were part of a large group and we were the only couple who had the shabbiest room overlooking the back of the hotel, which to be fair was dire!!
Everyone else had views overlooking the lake so i would recommend that you ask for that before you book as those rooms were a lot better than ours.
It was very windy for our 1st nights stay and one of our windows didnt shut properly & we got no sleep at all so we complained to Marie hoping we would get a different room but were responded with..." i had no sleep either", i wasnt impressed & had to walk away from her in the end. She wasnt rude to just me either by the sounds of it though.
The food was average, although i was sick of the sight of cheese & ham by the end of the week (there are no cooked breakfasts here). The buffet had the best selection of food i thought for the whole week but i am a picky eater.
One thing i would mention, however is they arent keen on plastic here and like you to pay for everything with cash, which isnt very good if you run up a bar bill by the end of the week. They also didnt like you taking glasses & cups to the room also.
However, St Wolfgang is a nice resort with lovely views and if you are into ski-ing the Postalm is very good for both beginners and pro's.

Stayed with friends at Hotel Leifer, rooms were extremely clean and warm. Food was plentiful and varied.
Maria and her family were very friendly and caring. Crystal rep was not very knowledgeable, but Maria helped out.
Would have no reservations about recommending this hotel for a holiday.. it's situation is ideal, on the lakefront, a 5-10 minute walk into the centre, we watched spectacular sunrises every morning.
Although hardly any snow on the St Wolfgang side of the lake the snow conditions on the Postalm(st. Wolfgang’s ski area on opposite side of lake) were very good.
Would definitely stay there again.

The staff at the hotel are fantastic, from helping our group of 25 feel welcome (aged 3 to 65), to customising meals to suit all within the group. We went in Jan 05 and during our week there I got married, Maria even helped our by ironing the wedding shirts the morning of the wedding and they catered our wedding reception for us too! The lounge with bar in stayed open til we went to bed and believe me there were some heavy drinkers amongst us.
Its 5 mins out of the main town which was never a problem, surely you go to Austria to enjoy the scenery and have a walk anyway.
The food was fantastic at all times in the hotel, they even provide lunch for you if you are around the hotel (free) or you can take things from the breakfast buffet if you are going out for the day.
A few from our group are returning this year (Feb 06) and another larger group of us are aiming to book for Jan 07.
I'd recommend this hotel without hesitation.

Shabby Hotel, no hot water for a...

Feb 2005, Miss J Smith

Shabby Hotel, no hot water for a shower after a days skiing. No tea/coffee making facilities in room. Members of staff were not friendly as previously stated. They bid me 'good morning' on my last day. The 'hotel' lacked character and atmosphere.
Would not recommend and would certainly not return to this 'hotel'. The resort was desolate with only a couple of shops open through out the day. This resort had absolutely no après ski facilities and certainly does not cater for the ski season.

I have to disagree with the previously posted review. I found the staff at the Leifer hotel to be very friendly and accommodating.
Apart from this, the view from the rooms and restaurant are stunning, and the menu is varied.
As for the resort being "desolate" - it may well be a predominantly summer resort but is so beautiful and there are a few very good bars. The hotel is only a five minute walk from the ski hire shop and the centre of the village, where there are cafes, shops, and a spa at The White Horse Inn.
The après ski may not be up to the standards of larger resorts, but there is something organised every evening - Bowling, Quiz nights, sleigh rides, candlelit walks, curling, and ski school prize giving. I am sorry but what more do you want Miss Smith?
I will be returning next winter.
