Panther Kleeblatt Hotel Reviews

8 / 10
Jan 2008, Mr D Izzard

We found the hotel to be as it said - being only minutes from the slopes, the holiday rep and generally most of the hotel staff were helpful. The hotel rooms were clean and tidy but the bath in our room was in poor condition. The food was a la carte which didn't suit us as... more

Honestly dreadful experience!
Please re consider your options before making a terrible mistake! My wife & {31yrs old} booked this 4* hotel through the Flight Centre {which became a Crystal Ski package} to base ourselves for 7 days skiing over Xmas. I've lost sleep as to how disappointed we are! The Hotel has not been renovated since the 80' & our upgraded room is a shocker. The T.V. is the smallest I've ever set eyes on, the lighting doesn't so much as brighten the room & the bathroom is less than impressive. All this aside our biggest mistake was taking on board the half board. The food is a complete disgrace! We ate here on the 1st night & will not set foot in the restaurant again. Their attempt at fine dining is miserable & the service is poor at best. I am so angry about this I am writing to you all on our third night here from the lobby which I might add has no character what so ever! How this Hotel gained a 4* rating is beyond me, I only wish we'd paid more attention to other peoples bad reports. I am aware that their are some good reviews however you MUST disregard them as they are not honourable. Others we have spoken to are staying in 3* establishments who are having a great experience. Please do yourself a favour & research better options as this Panther Hotel has ruined our Xmas getaway. One last point, Saalbach has no restaurant's or wine bars & quite frankly is not a place I'd recommend period. Truth be known there is so much better on offer throughout Europe. Rod & Mel Australia
A Good Base
A friendly, clean hotel with good facilities. Only gripe, satellite TV only had CNN & CNBC in English. 9/10.
Comfortable Hotel
The hotel is located very close to the lifts and ski school (easy ski 10 yards away, who were fantastic). Saalbach is a beautiful town with breath taking views, good apres ski even though it was the end of the season (Bobby's Bar great fun!). We went with a group of 8 friends, which involved far too much laughing and having lots of fun on the slopes. The hotel itself was comfortable, very clean and suited what we needed for a skiing holiday. Whilst the rooms were basic (twin beds, no tea or coffee facilities and little storage) it did not really matter. The cleanliness and comfortable duvet made up for this! The buffet breakfast was very good - cereals, bread and jams, eggs and bacon, fruit juices, fruit and yoghurt and a selection of tea and coffee. All very nice. The five course evening meal provided our group with lots of entertainment. Each morning we would receive the translated menu for that evening, which had some strange things on! e.g. Fried cheese with tartar sauce Trout mousse Brocolli and sour cream mousse (the hotel like their mousse!!!) However, they strangely tasted 'fine'. We had a few dishes which were a bit yuck (dessert: musli and yoghurt turrine!), but mainly the food was good. However, by the end of the week I was desparate for some food with more spice and flavour. Contrary to other opinions on this site, it was not a problem choosing dinner options in the morning. The service in the restaurant was very good- we mainly had the same waitress all week who was very attentive and friendly, and coped with our constant giggling very well!!! The drinks in the hotel were very expensive. In fact, the whole resort was pricey, including clothes. The receptionist was great and helped us design our itinery to Salzburg one day (the journey took 2 hr 30min - Mozart's family home was well worth the journey). The wellness suite was the perfect way to wind down after skiing. The outside warm pool was lovely. We even swam in the pool whilst it was snowing! (lots of bubbles in the pool too) There is also a good size sauna. We kept all of our ski wear in the ski room downstairs which always felt safe. Overall, the holiday was great fun. It was my first time skiing and I did find the slopes tricky, but my husband took to it very well.
heavenly hotel in the austrian alps
We knew the Panther was going to be wonderful as soon as we saw the front of the hotel. The staff were friendly and we were soon shown up to our beautiful room. Everything seemed to have been refurbished very recently and the bathroom even had foot-warming underfloor heating. The meal in the evening was mouth-watering every night and the breakfasts were beyond our expectation of continental hotels: scrambled eggs and bacon if you want it. The Panther has a lovely wellness suite with a very warm outdoor swimming pool, sauna, steam room, fitness room and lovely showers. On the second day my son was injured on the ski slopes and the hotel were helpful in faxing reports to our insurance company. I felt that nothing was too much trouble and we returned to the UK feeling thoroughly rested. Could not recommend this hotel more highly. My son said it was the best hotel he had ever stayed in.
Superb Christmas at the Panther
We stayed at the Panther with our 12 year old daughter for 1 week this Christmas and had a wonderful holiday. The staff were very friendly and helpful, room very clean and tidy and excellent food. The main course for dinner had to be chosen at breakfast which certainly wasn't a problem. The outdoor pool was beautifully warm and a lovely way to relax after ski-ing all day. The sauna and steam room were very popular as well. The location is perfect with access to the slopes a few metres from the hotel. I would certainly recommend this hotel.
nice hotel, great outdoor pool
I stayed in this hotel as part of a ski holliday and thougt that it was lovely. its clean, tidy, good bar friendly staff and great food. yes you have to choose your main course at breakfast for that pm but you got a 4 course delight each evening to look forward to after a day on the mountain. as a group we always go out one night for dinner but couldn't tear ourselves away from the food in this hotel. the location is one of the best aspects of this hotel with the beginer slope directly behind and the chair lift to one of the best slopes directly in front of the hotel you can't loose. the outdoor heated pool was the best and really gave a holliday atmosphere to the hotel. really enjoyed my stay.
THAT UNCOMFORTABLE FEELING
When we researched this hotel there was only one review available, it didn't exactly paint The Panther in a positive light; but we thought it couldn't be so bad. On the night we arrived we were checking in with another group when the receptionist informed them, in front of us that they had been given an upgrade free. A little unprofessional we thought, but hardly crime of the century. What ensued was a little less unprofessional and down right rude. The receptionist was sneering in her general demeanour, we witnessed this with other guests, so it wasn't just us. When we had our meals we were shown the wine list, but made to feel uncomfortable if we dared to choose anything other than Austrian wine. This was a continuing theme with our waiter, he just did not seem to like his job. One night I wanted a glass of champagne from the bar, we were told that we could only have a bottle, and the barman produced a bottle of Pomagne. For that very delight we were expected to fork out 70 euro. When we declined the babycham and asked for a bottle of red, we had a reasonable wine which we could take through to the dining room. However when we came back to the bar to put the wine on the room bill, the barman insisted we pay cash for the wine. We didn't have enough cash with us so we had to go out into the snow to get cash. Ridiculous. Then to top it all off we tipped him and he came out from behind the bar and pressed it back into my boyfriend's hand. I have never witnessed such bizarre behaviour Add to that the room that stank like sweaty feet before we arrived, the quarter bath (not so comfortable when you are 6ft 2 )and the 'beef jelly' ( read whiskers cat food) - it proved to be a very disappointing choice of hotel. Granted the location is excellent, but if I were were you I would stop at Das Neuhaus which is 25 metres down the road. Excellent food, champagne by the glass and a really warm welcome, even if you weren't staying there
A superb hotel in a great location!
Having read other reviews of this hotel prior to travel, I was not expecting too much. However, this is a great hotel, the standard of rooms is excellent and the staff throughout the hotel could not have been more friendly or accomodating. I was part of a group of sixteen men which many hotels would have avoided like the plague but we experienced nothing but courtesy and friendliness throughout our stay (in spite of some high spirits after the apres ski!). A particular word needs to be said about the food which was superb. A huge choice at breakfast, including fresh orange juice, bacon and boiled eggs sets you up nicely for a day on the piste. The evening meal is a four course delight and the attention from the waiters is second to none. The hotel boasts a sauna and oudoor heated pool with jacuzzi. A major plus is a heated boot room which means warm boots every morning and the central location meant easy access to all the lifts. There is also a pleasant bar area to relax with a few beers after a hard days skiiing. Many of my group are veterans of ski trips and all agreed that this was by far the best hotel we had ever stayed in.
Truely terrible
This is a terrible hotel. The manager is unhelpful and unfriendly when we pointed out that we had booked a room with a balcony and paid extra for this she just walked away and refused to have any discussion about it. The pool which was very nice and heated well was not cleaned in the week we were there and by the end there were a lot of beer cans left around. Although dinner is included we preferred to eat out rather than spend more time in the hotel, also you had to decide at breakfast between the two options for dinner.
Definitely not the 4*
I goy to this hotel by accident as I booked and prepaid another hotel in Hinterglemm (also Saalbach area), and a few days before the trip my tour operator informed me that the other hotel was overbooked and they offered me the only alternative - Hotel Panther - which they claimed to be a better one. My friends were going to Saalbach anyway, so I had no option other than to accept. The only positive feature about this hotel were central location and friendliness of the staff (especially, the barman). Now, please find below the list of negatives (this hotel is officially 4*!): - tiny standard rooms ("ClubMed style" if you know what I mean) - absolutely unprofessional service which you find in any area (it will be boring to describe everything) - no fridge/minibar in the room - no bath amenities (e.g. shampoo, shower gel). A good indication was that almost not local people stayed in this hotels, and of course many of them use to come to Saalbach. My recommendation is that you stay in this hoyel only if you get a rate well below the ones charged by other hotels in the area. I paid ridiculous Euro 145 pp (HB) (this was of course the New year rate, nrmally they charge less), only sligly below really good hotels I found in the area such as Neue Haus next door. Also, if you have to stay their try to get an upgraded (comfort) room as standard rooms are too small.
