Good for the price
Agree with the general reviews I have read of this hotel. My rate was about $125 a night for a single. The room was definitely small (and the hallways even smaller -- 3" across), but the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was spotless. The draw here is the location for the price.
Great hotel.
We recently stayed at the Clarion on Park Ave for two nights and we strongly reccomend this hotel. It's in a very central location, but still, we couldn't hear the traffic in our room. The room itself was very clean and had a nice and immaculate bathroom. The cost is more than reasonable for New York City (we paid 105.00$ per night, breakfast and taxes included). It's a great value and we would surely stay there again on our next trip to the city.
Excellent value for Manhattan
My stay at this Clarion was excellent, exceeded my expectations, and was frankly a steal for the location. I booked a single room (prob the smallest available) and my rate was $81+tax/night. For that kind of price, you'd usually end up with a dumpy hotel or one of those shared-bathroom setups.. this one surprised me as I expected the worst. Property: Good location, safe neighborhood, some corner marts nearby. Subway stop is 2 blocks away. Front desk agents are not too big on customer service but whatever. They let me check in... more
Fair
We stayed in the hotel over Thanksgiving because it was the only hotel I could find under $200/night. Pros: if you are not planning on being in the room much, the price is a bargain. the daily maid service was excellent. in general, the staff was friendly and helpful. it's in a good location, within walking distance of many good stores/bars/restaurants. there is a subway stop one block from the hotel, and it's easy to find cabs. Cons: the rooms are TINY (though that seems to be the case in all of NY). the comforter and shams... more
Just returned, loved the Clarion
For the price (and my friend and I were on a budget) the Clarion Park Avenue was wonderful. Our room was clean, comfortable and the staff was exceptional. The only glitch was the second night when we came in and the room was sweltering. The heat had been running in the hotel all day and while it was cold outside, the temp registered at 94 degrees in our room. The heat was not specifically on in our room (there was a radiator the was clearly not emitting a lot of heat)but I think the entire building was holding heat. Each room has a... more
Early check in -- accomodating front desk people
I stayed here a Mon and Tues night at a reasonable rate for Manhattan. Small room with a double bed but okay for a single traveler. I arrived just after 11 am and expected to have to store my bags until check in time but was pleased to find my room ready. I had to shorten my stay to only two nights and the front desk people did that at no charge. I had a partial view but I paid less than $ 150/night. Great location to subway and restaurants. Da Ciro was my favorite. Comfy bed. Breakfast served 7-10am with cereal, fruit, juices,... more
Great price, great location
I can't believe we found a hotel on Park Ave. for 116-dollars a night. The rooms are small, but aren't they all in NYC? It was clean and well worth the price. I'll go back.
Good value, but double-check your bill
We stayed in July 2005, paid $119 for a week night, $144 for a weekend night on a queen, non-smoking room. We felt this hotel was a good value for New York. Room: Our room did not face the brick wall that people keep mentioning in the reviews; it looked over and across at a number of surrounding buildings and a busy pigeon colony. It also had a closet, unlike some other rooms reviewed. Furnishings and bedding were in good shape, but the wallpaper was very scuffed and carpet threadbare. Bathroom sink, commode, and fixtures were... more
Single traveller, happy with this hotel.
If you're looking for an affordable. clean and well located hotel in NYC this hotel may be for you. I stayed at this hotel in early June 2005, during the week. The room was on the fifth floor, backside of the hotel (Rm. 511). This room is for one person only and has a twin bed. The room overlooked the garden areas of the apartments behind the hotel and I felt that I was in a neighborhood rather than just off noisy Park Avenue South. The two most wonderful things about the room were the air conditioner that worked EXTREMELY well and that... more
No serious complaints
We stayed at the Clarion July 5-8. Check-in fast, efficient. "Valet Parking " took 40 minutes, and we ended up taking our car to the garage ourselves (3 blocks away). This really wasn't the hotel's fault. Rooms small, but clean. Made the most of what space there was. We didn't go to NYC to stay in a hotel room, so it was fine, especially for the great AARP rate we got. Musty smell...mildew??? We adapted to it. Maybe a room deodorizer or spray might have helped. Our room and our friends' room was like a cave with lights off. No... more
