Rodos Maris Hotel Reviews
" A lot of noise "
Submitted By: glenn123" Rodos Maris Resort and Spa "
Submitted By: n coppOn our arrival (aprox 3am, following a night flight) we were told the hotel was overbooked and they wanted to put us in the Mitsis Rhodos Maris Village Hotel (their sister hotel across the road). Having already read another review that said they often do this to people arriving on night flights, we stood our ground and around 5am were finally given a room in the hotel. As the week went on we spoke to many people who had the same problem. Some had accepted a room in the ‘Mitsis Rhodos Maris Village’ and subsequently never got a room in the Maris Resort and Spa that they had actually booked.
The room was literally that; just one room with 4 beds in it, a small balcony and a bathroom. There was a safe which we had to pay over 30 Euros for. If you want some privacy from your children you need to book a superior room.
Having finally got our room we decided not to let this spoil our holiday and agreed that we would take the complex at face value. This is what we thought:
The hotel is advertised as a 5 Star. We spoke to our holiday rep who informed us this is a Greek 5 star and the hotel has been awarded this status due to its facilities. I personally would say this hotel is equivalent to a good 3 star hotel elsewhere. However, it did have some good features, to name a few: hairdressers, galleteria (an inside café serving drinks, snacks and cake with a small inside pool), several restaurants, supermarket, souvenir shop, internet café, spa, tennis court, small amusement arcade, and 2 outdoor pools.
The main pool was a good size with a shallow end where games and activities run by the animation team often took place. There was also a very deep end. It got very busy around the main pool and the management had to put a notice up asking people not to save sun beds before 9am. Next to this was a pool bar with a fantastic bar man called George. Up some steps from the main pool was a children’s pool and a flume. There was also a second small pool further down the complex, but unless your room was actually near this, we felt it was too small to bother with.
The beach was a mix of sand and shingle. It was easy to walk to, as this was just across a quiet road behind the hotel. The hotel provided sun loungers and umbrellas. The best feature was the beach bar, where you could get your All Inclusive drinks, panini’s, hot dogs and ice creams.
There was a good choice of restaurants. The main restaurant was very hot as the air conditioning could have been better, but it did also have seating outside. It served some lovely food, with good variety and choice. We didn’t find it ‘samey’ as some All Inclusives can be. In addition to the main restaurant there was a Chinese restaurant, Greek restaurant and a taverna, which had to be booked in advance. Beware, you could make reservations for these at the reception from 9am, but as these were popular people often queued much earlier than this.
The animation team worked hard. They organised events during the day at the pool and the beach. These activities included: water polo, beach volleyball, darts, aqua aerobics, quizzes, fun games and dancing. At night time they arranged activities such as bingo, group dances and ‘cabaret’. The evening entertainment was held at an old tennis court with a stage, and limited chairs and tables. The bar here was a small, hot hut and subsequently this led to long queues for drinks. We felt the evening entertainment itself was poor and a ‘much of a muchness’. The animation team did work hard, but the results were amateur. On a Wednesday the animation team have the night off and Greek dancers provide the entertainment. We personally felt it was a shame the hotel did not pay for professional entertainment at least a few nights a week.
For us, the best thing about this holiday was the fact it was so family orientated. There was a mini club for younger children, which our children did not attend, but we heard many good things about this. In reality, we hardly saw our children, aged 9 and 11 as they made so many friends and participated in so many events. We also didn’t worry if we couldn’t see the children as we felt the hotel provided a safe environment for them to play in.
Ignoring the initial complications with our room, we would recommend this holiday to any family. Our only moans (and they are small) are 1, that the hotel have too many people staying at once making it very busy and 2, the evening entertainment could be better. Overall a very enjoyable holiday 8/10. We personally think the world is a small place and so don’t like visiting the same destination twice, but if we did not think that way we would definitely go back.

" Overbooked got the call the day before we were due to fly out. "
Submitted By: 5Edwards5Considering I was already very nervous about going it has now made matters 10 times worse. So now instead of being excited about going I am totally stressed out and they have ruined my holiday.
So my advice to you is DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL.
" Rodos Maris Kiotari "
Submitted By: trussyWe went to Rhodes for the day which was great however the downside was it took 2 hours on a bus, also the waterpark in Falaraki which took 1 and 1/2 hours by bus Taxis were 55 euros each way to Rhodes so very expensive.
I would go back to Rhodes as i feel the island has a lot to offer however i would not go back to Kiotari as it is very quiet and not ideal for families with teenagers.
Advice: Very quiet
Activities: Going to Rhodes and waterpark
" excellent loved it!!! "

" Great Hotel "
Submitted By: mac22I found the room to be a little basic but comfortable, there were a couple of problems with the room, the air conditioning wasn't working or the tv and the shower was leaking.
I reported this at reception the next morning and by early afternoon everything was working and the shower had been replaced.
The hotel staff were very friendly and the food was lovely, being vegitarian I can be quite limited on holiday but there was always something available for me. There is a main dinning room, a traditional Greek resteraunt, a Chinese resteraunt and a Greek Taverna, you have to book in advance for the later three. The pool area is very pretty with the huge swimming pool and the garden areas, there is also an indoor pool, a quiet pool and the pool underneath the water slide which is great fun.
The is a childrens play area and the hotel is right on the beach.
There is an entertainments team and activities throughout the day in the hotel grounds and on the beach which can keep you entertained all day.
I had a fantastic holiday and would recomend this hotel to anyone.
The only downside is that the hotel and grounds are either marble or tiles which can be very slippy.
You have to take care walking around the pool area and the steps, the hotel is built on a hill so there are a lot of steps.
I had a couple of narrow escapes and there was a couple of nasty accidents with falls whilst I was there including a couple that had to be hospitalised when they fell down the steps leading to the shops.
If I go back to Rhodes in the future I would go back to this hotel.
Advice: It's a nice quiet area with a lovely beach, some shops and not too far from Lindos
Activities: In the hotel grounds, lots of choice's of food, Lindos is a must visit

We arrived fairly late about midnight I think it was and was greeted by a friendly smile and a couple of ham rolls. Ok the rolls were a bit squashed but they were greatly appreciated as we never asked for anything.
Our suitcases were taken to our room for us and we took a stroll around and took a casual walk to our room which was the very last block on the front over looking the beach (tennis courts end).
ROOM
We had a ground floor room with a terrace. I was hoping for a room a bit higher up but we decided not to change cause we was really happy with what we got. We had a lovely big room with a very large double bed (which was actually two beds pushed together) and two single beds and an armchair, table, TV with a few english channels, Air conditioning, a fridge which was restocked every 2 days (contained bottles of coca cola, lemonade, spring watter and beer). The bathroom was spacious and had a overbath shower, and the whole place was extremly clean. I have been to many hotels in the UK and Rodos Maris is by far the cleanest I have ever seen.
Our little terrace had a table and two chairs and overlooked the beach just across the road which was a lovely place to go and sit with a lemonade watching the sunset.
FOOD
The food as some people have said in their reviews was a bit repetitive BUT there was so much choice anyway you cant grumble. It was all buffet style and you could choose exactly what and how much you wanted.
For breakfast you had a choice of cooked breakfast toast fruit or cereals which was the same everyday but then what else do you want for breakfast.
Lunch and Dinner was pretty much the same. There was always spaghetti and meatballs which was really yummy or you could get something of the grill (not too keen on the burgers they did) there was always a selection of meat and cheeses, and always pasta and usually fish and some greek dishes. So yes it was repetitive cause there was no new dishes everyday but the choice was very vast in any case.
There was also a Greek, Chinese and some over restraunt. If you want to eat at these places you have to book them at the reception the day before. We booked the Chinese on our last night but there had been a mix up and we had to go to the other restraunt which was a bit annoying at first but as soon as we had tried some of the kebabs they had on offer we were quite happy the mistake was made :)
ENTERTAINMENT & FACILITIES
They do have a spa in the hotel but we never visited that. There are 2 outside pools. One really big one which is where the animation team like to do their stuff and one smaller more quite one where it was nice to chill out with a good book. I did this a few times while my new husband spent some time in the internet cafe....ahh bliss :)
The night entertainment was ok. They had a kiddies show first then at about 9pm they would have bingo. My hubby won a bottle of some sort of spirit which we are keeping for a special occasion. After bingo the animation team would put on a show. They were actually really good. Quite funny :D
For those people that just fancied a quite relaxing romantic night you could sit outside with a cocktail (lots to choose from) and watch the sunset.
LOCATION
The only reason why I gave this hotel 9 and not 10 was because I couldnt get a cuppa tea anywhere and the beach was really not nice at all. When I say not nice I just mean it was shingle stuff that was a nightmare to walk on. Maybe its just me and my hubby cause everyone else seemed to be walking ok but I ventured down to the sea and my feet were in agony walking on that stuff. The water was beautiful and clear though. You could see the bottom and it was really warm too (in fact it was warmer than the swimming pools which is a bit odd). It was a really nice clean beach though, Im just moaning cause my poor feet didnt like it.
There is a bar on the beach where you can get drinks and food from all day (all inclusive) and also a bar by the pool I forgot to mention.
I would recommend you take the glass bottom boat trip to Lindos while you are there. Didnt see much in the glass bottom but the boat ride itself was great. Lindos is so beautiful and being in a boat going round all the rocks and caves is the best way to capture the beauty of the place in my opinion.
We also rented a convertible Jeep for 3 days. We found it cheaper to rent from a rental shop across the road from the hotel rather than renting direct from the hotel. We explored the whole island in that little Jeep. If your missing home then go to Falaraki for the day which (unfortunatly) is very touristy and westernised. If you like history and architecture then go to Rhodes Town for the day. But whatever you decide to do, just make sure Lindos is on the list. It is absolutly beautiful. Its a bit of a climb up the mountain to the top but you can either get a donkey ride or take the little path through the market stalls. The view from the top left me speechless. If you go to Rhodes dont miss the opportunity to see this for yourself.
Overall our Honeymoon was perfect and I would highly recommend Hotel Mitsis Rodos Maris to anyone :D Enjoy x

Submitted By: Ryan65Food was really good although the same thing pretty much every day can get a bit mundane.
Depending on what you are looking for you will find the Animation team either good or really annoying. They dominate the large pool during the day and it turns things into a eastern european version of Butlins. I had booked the hotel looking for a restful holiday so I chose the second pool or the beach, which was great.
The pools themselves needed a good clean, both had a green tinge to them.
Location was remote and away from all the "tat" that you would normally expect but there are a few shops that you could choose to have a look around outside the hotel.
There was no spotty teenagers trying to tempt you into crap bars and no North Africans trying to sell you snide gear on the beach every two minutes, bliss!
Don't get fooled by the website video as this mainly depicts the sister hotel over the road and not the Maris, which incidentally does not allow you to use your All Inc status.
Kiotari was a great location that I would go back to but I would probably choose a different hotel.
" We stayed at this hotel in September... "
Submitted By: Other L And J CassidyWe got off to a bad start as we arrived at 12:30 am after a one and a half hour transfer from the airport, in a coach driven by a guy who was having great difficulty in keeping awake and got slower and slower. Then we were given a really naff room, which was a single room with one small bed and a camp bed in it. My wife was ready to go home at this point, so we went back to reception and complained. The night receptionist told me he would tell them in the morning about it, but there was nothing he could do at that time. We persevered and went back at 9am in the morning after a really rotten nights sleep. I have a feeling that they expected this as they never asked our name or room number, but offered us a better room straight away. this one was in a block right at the edge of the complex, so we asked for one in the main building as this is what we had booked. The receptionist got the hump a bit but offered us a room where we wanted, but made some excuse about not being able to move our cases, which we duly did ourselves, from one corner of the complex to the main block. Our room was much better, being a proper double with a view over the sea. However Ms Humpfrey got her own back as it was next to the large air conditioning fans for the hotel, so it was a bit noisy with the balcony door open. It was interesting to note that the same happened to another couple we met, who also changed rooms, (they had arrived at 3am). So I think that if you arrive here in the small hours, you must expect a cr4p room, do not bother to unpack as you should get a proper room in the morning.
This aside, all was OK after that, the room air con was quiet and the room clean, if a little bit shabby round the edges.
The rest of the hotel is OK, but not 5 star by any means. The public areas were always clean and the staff were very pleasent (except Ms Humpfrey).
There are 4 pools, all of which were nice but cold (but this was late September). One was an indoor pool, but believe me, its' colder than the main pools! No one swam in it the whole week, and I only managed a quick dip in it myself.
The food is very good, there are 4 places to dine, the main restaurant is buffet service, as is the Taverna (Italian), there is also a Greek place where you are waited on, which is next door to the Chinese. There are snacks available all day in the Gelateria bar and at the beach bar. The AI drinks service is also good with a good selection of cocktails available.
The only real complaint is that the hotel is a little isolated, there are a few shops nearby but thats all, although you can walk along the beach.
We were lucky to get a good deal on a hire car, from the desk inside the hotel. We had 3 days for 75 Euros, including full insurance. So we managed to get around and see most of the island. Rhodes town and Lindos are 2 must do things.
We have given this an 8/10 but not as a 5 star, if we rated this as a genuine 5 star it would be lower. However we enjoyed the rest of the holiday after the room change.
" Just got back form a superb and one... "
Submitted By: Miss EE ElliottDuring out stay we had a childs birthday and our anniversary so we got upgraded to a beautiful room very spacious but maybe a little more storage would be good!On my sisters birthday the staff organised a cake and were really good with her! The pool wa svery clean however the area around the pool was very slippery and we did experience some people falling over, so just be careful! The beach was very clean and the sunbeds were free along with a beach bar where you could sit and have paninis, drinks and pizza. The watersport staff were friendly and canoes were free but other watersports such as jet skis and crazy sofas had a small extra charge. The animation team were the best we've ever seen , they were friendly full of life and we are still in touch with them now! They offer a wide range of activities which everyon takes part in such as volleyball, french boules, darts, water polo.water gym, stretching and for the children they ahve a mini club during the day where they can get out of the sun for a while. The evening entertainment was very good and we were suprised to see how many people got up and joined in with the club dance every night!
The restaurant had a very wide range of food and anyone who cannot find something they like or complain about that restaurant is obviously very fussy because we still weren't bored after 2 weeks! There are also a chinese,Greek and Taverna which you can book and eat in for free but you have to be there by around 8.30 in the morning or you will not get a seat.
The weather was fantastic and we saw maybe one or 2 clouds in the whole time we were there!
We took one trip out while we were there because to be honest there was no need to move out the hotel because everything we wanted was there for us!Lindos is a 20 minute bus drive away and there are planty of small shops nearby if you need anything.
The sea was very warm and full of fish so take or buy a snorkel and go and look!
The staff were all very friendly and we are definitely considering going back next year!!!
We miss Rhodes already!!
" Excellent!!!!!
Firstly... "
Firstly this has nothing to do with the hotel, but, our tour operator "On The Beach" sent through (via email) our travel documents with the wrong departure time from Manchester luckily the flight was delayed and we were allowed through to board the plane.
We arrived at the hotel at around 5am after a long transfer from the airport that seemed to go on forever, only to be told that our room was not ready, however, we were told that it would not be very long and we were offered a temporary room at the sister hotel across the road and also free use of the saftey deposit box and late check out on the day of departure as compensation.
We accepted this but decided to stay and have breakfast before going to the sister hotel. When we had finished breakfast luckily our room at the Maris was ready so there was no need to go to the other hotel.
A porter took our cases to the room, which, if I am honest was little on the small side for two adults and two children (aged 9 & 6) but it was clean and the air conditioning worked fine afterall how much time do you actually spend in your room apart from sleeping and showering.
The food was good and plenty of it and it's hot and tasty with plenty of choice and lots of salad items. We did try the Chinese restaraunt which was very nice but there was not enough of it as you were odering from a menu with waitress service, I would recomend the crispy Duck here it was very good.
We also ate at the Taverna near the beach which served oven baked pizza and kebabs of which was on a self serve basis this too is a must.
The hotel staff were friendly and helpfull at all times and nothing was too much trouble, I have to give a special mention to George at the pool bar were I spent most of my evenings a really "nice guy" and also to Roni of the Animation team team who did the nightly quizz. I am a smoker and it was great to sit at a bar without fear of being arrested for doing so.
All in all a wonderful holiday and great value for money I would most deffinatley return.
" Warning - Frank review!
ARRIVAL - Myself, my partner and her 11 year old son have just returned from our second trip to the Rodos Maris in 3 years,We last went there in 2005 and we really enjoyed it, we also really enjoyed our stay this time but we have decided to write a frank review containing the niggly little bits that maybe that some people may not like!.
Lets start with the arrival at the hotel, one huge piece of advice we would give is to try and get a flight which gets you to the hotel for after 2pm,this is because your rooms will not be ready before so if like the first year we went you get there at breakfast time you will have 7 hour wait for your air conditioned room!, however you can use the facilities and eat/drink what you want but its not the same as getting your room straight away where you can relax and unpack.
ROOM ALLOCATION - A real sticky one that is the bain of this hotel, when you book i think you have the choice of a mountain view, garden view or a sea view, the hotel is layed out in such a way that there are little semi detatched villas with gardens situated in the grounds of the hotel as well as the rooms in the main hotel itself, I would say that judging my the amount of complaints that i have seen in two trips there that at least 30% of people dont get what they payed for,why this happens i dont know
We got a the sea/garden we asked for our 2005 trip but not this time, instead we had a room in the main building(312) which turned out to be fine and had a stunning view of the sea and was quiet at night unlike the rooms over the entertainment area where i would not like to stay.
MAIN DINING AREA & FOOD - May not be to everyones liking!,The main dining area is a large hall consisting of about 200 tables and a further 50 outside, the tables seat 4 but there are larger ones available.
After waiting outside the dining room door you are showed to your seat by the Maitre'D then you help your self to the large buffet, personally i think the food is fine and would have no complaints, what we have to remember is that this hotel not only has to cater for the British but also for Germans,Italians,French and Eastern European people so it is not going to be laden with fish and chips ect .
There is one large table crammed full of all kinds of salads, cold pastas and rice dishes, dressings, oils ect ect, also a large table stacked full of at least 15 different kinds of bread, then there is of course the hot section which will have 8-10 different kinds of hot food ranging from fish and chicken(sometimes breaded),bolegnese, spaghetti's,pork, beef ot chicken in sauces, quiches, goulash, too many different things over a week to list, also there is a a large flame grill area where burgers, chicken, pork, veal ect ect is cooked in front of you.
Also a huge selection of deserts and ice creams,at least 10 different types
None of it runs out, if it does it is replaced.
Breakfast consists of a choice of breads, jams, cereals, fruit, meats, cheese and then the usual bacon, german sausages, omelette's,scrambled or fried egg, potatoes, beans, tomatoes, french toast, plenty to go around.
Also a lunch is served in the day which is much the same as the evening fare.
Times are Breakfast - 7.30am-10.30, Lunch 12.30pm-2.30pm and Evening meal 7.00pm - 9.30pm.
There is food and drink available at the different bars also throughout the day like rolls, snacks, pizza, pies ect ect
Would just like to add that at any meal time there is no privacy or peace if you want it,its very very busy with people helping themselves to food and bumping in to each other ect ect, like feeding time at the zoo!,not everyone would like this, my advice would be to have an early breakfast at around 7.45am, a late lunch at 2pm and a later evening meal at around 8.30pm if you want peace, all the drinks are fine apart from the wine which is table wine watered down!.Also there are 3 seperate eating areas in the complex which you can book to eat in, a chinesee,a greek tavern and greek tapas bar, which are all much more relaxed and two of them have waiter service.
HYGYINE - you cannont fault the efforts of the staff here for keeping the hotel clean, the army of cleaners start at around 6.30am and every square inch of floor is brushed and mopped and walls, chairs are wiped, the dining areas sometimes need extra work and i had a dirty glass one night, the rooms are cleaned every day with new sheets and towels and the mini bar stocked up every other day.
APPEARANCE- grand from the outside entrance and the hotel is floored in marble tiles with ceramic/terracotta outside, rodos maris has been open since 1992 and doing all inclusive for 10 years if you want to be fussy you could say it shows, doors want painting, certain chairs replacing ,new sealant in bathrooms ect ect ,nothing major but these things make a true 5 star which this is not.
Would like to point out the obvious that marbe/ceramic when wet are very slippy we saw a few injuries, and there are marble stairs everywhere.
SMOKING POLICY- we struggled with this as we are british non smokers, when we first visited in 2005 and the smoking van wasn't in place in the UK it wasn't a problem for us,it was something we dealt with as we were used to it,but one year of breathing clean air in the UK while eating and drinking out made a difference.
There is no smoking allowed in the main dining are but pretty much everywhere else, the place that effected us the most was the beach, the Germans ,Italians,French and some Brits smoke on the beach and instead of putting their cigarette butts in the ashtrays a lot of them throw them in the sand, disgusting dirty pigs with the wind blowing on the beach the smell for a non smoker can be offputting.
SUNBEDS- hard to get at the pool, yes the Germans are up to their old tricks again, you wont get a bed after 7.30am-8am by the pool,I saw the Germans putting towles on beds in the shade and sun,and complaints will fall on deaf ears.
sunbeds at the beach are easier to get and to be honest we went the beach every day,its quieter and more relaxedand quieter with loads for the kids to do in the water, you will get a bed up to around 10.30am,we walked to the beach and put towels on at 8am then went for breakfast,at 8am you can pretty much have the pick of the beach.
I know there are lots of negatives in this review but Dont be put of by it as we had a great time and would go back for a third visit, but we felt those little things which make a difference need bringing to peoples attention.

Submitted By: Mrs J M PottsFrom the moment we arrived at reception and throughout our two week stay we were treated brilliantly by all the staff, even the cleaning staff were friendly and helpful!
when we arrived we requested a room with seaview and we were'nt dissapointed, the room was lovely and spacious, very clean and the view was beautiful. the rooms were cleaned every day with fresh bed linen and towels provided, the mini bar was re-stocked every other day with 2 bottles of beer, 6 bottles of fizzy pop, a 2ltr bottle of water and mineral water (wine would be an added bonus!!)
the food was lovely - well cooked meats, pasta dishes, fish dishes, a very good selection of food, and the desserts were to die for! As well as the main dining hall you can eat at the chinese restaurant (GORGEOUS!) the greek taverna, and there's an italian taverna just a few metres away that makes the best pizzas cooked right in front of you. Throughout the day you can get various snacks and icecream from the gelataria and also from the bar on the beach!!
The beach is lovely and clean with plenty of FREE sunbeds and parasols, there's a couple of changing huts, and toilets that were kept very clean! You can do all manor of watersports and pay to go on a glass bottomed boat trip (we were told this was brilliant)
The animation team were fantastic - they entertained all of us young and old, every morning there was yoga followed by waterpolo (good fun!) water aerobics, then later on kids waterpolo and games for adults in the pool!!
There's a games arcade, with pool tables, video games and lots of computers with internet connection (the teenagers were loving that!)
The evening entertainment was brilliant, a mini-disco for the kids, bingo, music quizes, karoake, men versus women games, traditional greek dancers - you were never bored on a night, that all finished about midnight then you could carry on drinking and socialising in the main building where there was a bar till after 2am and lots of comfortable seating.
This was our first ever all inclusive holiday and i can only say..... why have'nt we done it sooner!!! it was brilliant value for money and we're already looking to book a week for next year, we met some fab people, some were back for the second and third time and one couple were on their 8th visit!! I highly recommend the rodos maris, the people, the food, the service, the accommodation, it was a fabulous holiday and i can't wait to go back.
One thing...... you have to get up early (around 7am) to get a bed around the pool. The hotel try and discourage people from leaving towels on the bed, but people still do!
