Arriving Memorial Day Weekend meant Vegas was really busy. We were here with 25 friends & family to get married in a traditional wedding off the strip. The holiday had been booked for 9 months. Upon checking in we found out that we were being shipped to another hotel, less... more

Great hotel. Couldn't do enough for us but it was our honeymoon so that may be why. Rooms are all suites and are huge. A TV in every room including the bathroom - you think it's frivolous but you miss it when you get home! Slightly more expensive than other hotels but... more

Nothing Better
What a wonderful vacation we had! Our room was spotless and very comfortable, excellent mattresses for anyone with bad backs like me!! The pools got a little crowded during prime time but still plenty of room for enjoyment - the Lazy River is soooo relaxing!!! Food at the restaurants were all very good, everyone very friendly! One big plus, the ventilation system in the Casino was excellent! I'm very allergic to cigerette smoke but was never bothered at their casino whereas at others I was forced to leave "the clouds" of smoke.
none better
Stayed 6/19-6/26 Check in took a while(this is a big hotel) Service excellent. I got a better rate by joining the hotel's paradise club. See there web site. Pool crowded, wave pool lot's of fun. If u have a car try the Tillerman for excellent seafood. Restaurants at hotel no big deal. Slots never saw anyone win even a small jackpot. A waitress told me u had a better chance playing at K Mart I believe her. Again if u have a car side trip to Red Rock Canyon is fantastic.
Mixed feelings...
We (husband 35 and myself 33) stayed at Mandalay Bay July 20 (Sunday) - July 24 (Thursday). We arrived at check in about noon. And it seems so did another 200 people. Check in was verrrrry sloooow! It took us almost an hour standing in line. When we finally got to the registration desk we requested a room with a strip view and up high as possible. Clerk said all they had was a smoking room left that was on the 35 floor with that view. We agreed to try it and see if it was okay. I asked if robes were in the room and was told they were. Got to room after a slow, and long elevator ride to find it very clean without a trace of cigerette smoke. Me decided to stay put because they view was to die for. Well there were no robes, so we called down and robes and slippers were delivered to us in about 15 minutes. Bathroom was huge with a seperate shower and a tub big enough for two. I really loved the bathroom. I had picked this hotel for the pool. Well the pool was very nice. It was always busy even though we were there mid week. I can't imagine what this place would be like on the weekend in high season! I sunburn very easy so we were always at the pool first thing in the mourning when it opened, which was 8:30 am. So we could always get a great chair under a mister any where we wanted. We would stay a couple of hours and then would have to take a break from sun. Later aound 4pm we would return. We were never able to find a chair at this time and had to just sit on the ground. Cocktail service was very slow. It was quicker, easier and cheaper to walk to bar and get it yourself. The drinks were the same price ($7.75), but in bigger glasses if you walked to get them. And we were drinking frozen cocktails that arrived half melted from the cocktail waitresses. We soon learned to just get them ourselves and charge them to room. We ate in the Blue Blanc Rouge for breakfast one mourning. Both of us had crepes which were very good ($37.24). We had a coupon for 2 for 1 breakfast at House of Blues. We had french toast and waffles $17.84). Good but really nothing to write home about. One night we ordered room service. We got a pizza and ice cream. This was really the best meal me had in the hotel. It was typical room service price ($23.16), but the food was really good and presented so nicely. They brought it up on a wheeled table with real silverware and china plates and linen napkins. The ice cream was about a pint which was inside a ice bucket. We sat in our robes ordered a pay per view movie ($10.99) and enjoyed our food. We had lunch at Raffles Cafe ($39.05) for 2 sandwiches drinks and desert. I thought a little over priced for the quality of food. We had better meals in other casinos. We didn't use the casino much, but it was never crowded. Mandalay Bay is at the south end of the strip so if you are going to explore it will cost you one way or the other. During the day we took the trolley which was $1.65 a person up and down the strip. In the evening when we were dressed for dinner and shows we took cabs. We went to the Rio one night. They have a free shuttle from Harrah's which we took over. But it takes a long time and is crowded. We got a taxi on the return trip. I think it was about $8. Okay for the complaints. The rooms have no safe. The hotel offers safe deposit boxes. We never used them. We didn't have alot of cash so we simply locked it in our luggage. Thought it was really odd though, that in a place like vegas there was no place to stash travelers checks, plane tickets, visa etc. Local phone calls (and 1-800 #) cost $1.00 from the room phones. I really hate hotels that do this. It is simply ridiculous these days. We use a calling card with a 1-800 number. It was cheaper for us to use our cell phone while standing in the room! Like I said the view was great. But in order to stay up on a high floor you will have to make a trade off. Getting to and from your room takes a long time and elevators are nearly always full. We were staying with a promotional rate of $99 a night. At this price is was well worth it and I would not hesitate in recommending it at that price. I can't see how anywhere near full price would be though. On our next trip I think we are going to try out the Rio. I was really impressed with this place when we visited and it really is no more out of the way then Mandalay Bay is.
Wow
We stayed at Mandalay last week April 2003. At check-in (fast and courteous) we were offered $20 upgrade to Jr-type suite...well worth every cent! They gave us some extras like 2/1 breakfast. The room was spacious, clean, gorgeous with the nicest bathroom I've ever seen in a hotel. Plenty of premium bath goodies left every day. The whole hotel smells like vanilla; after hiking the strip all day, stepping back into Mandalay just made you go "aahhhh!". The restaurants are terrific and fun, and the pool area was gorgeous and clean. Negatives: so many kids (why oh why do people bring children to Vegas?), and it's a hike to go anywhere. There is NOWHERE better and that includes Bellagio if you don't mind walking / tramming.
Mandalay Bay was great!
My family and I arrived in Las Vegas on July 15th. We stayed at Mandalay Bay for 3 nights. There was a Computer Associates convention at Mandalay Bay, which I didn't realize when I made the reservation, so I was worried that we would not get our room preference (non-smoking, 2 queen beds).Mandalay Bay was excellent. Check-in was extremely fast, less than 10 minutes. We got exactly the room preference that we requested. We arrived at Mandalay Bay about 11:30AM, and our room was not ready. The person at check-in checked us into our room anyway, with the understanding that it had not been cleaned. He also gave us keys so that we could access the pool. We went to the pool for about 1-1/2 hours, and the room was ready when we returned. We called for our baggage, and it arrived at our room in less than 5 minutes. We had an awesome view of the Strip from our 18th-story room.Valet service for the car was also extremely fast. Our longest wait was about 10 minutes, but most other times it was less than 5 minutes. We couldn't have walked to our car any faster than that, so the small cost for tipping the valet attendant.I enjoyed the overall atmosphere of Mandalay Bay, and the service we received during our stay was outstanding. Although Mandalay Bay is not inexpensive, I would absolutely stay there again.
What A Disapointment!
As a frequent visitor to Las Vegas, I have been looking forward to staying at Mandalay Bay...I will never go back. After struggling with my baggage to get to the registration counter (with no help from anyone) I finally made it to the room. The rooms were nice and clean. I played heavy and was introduced to the host who offered (without my asking) to "take care of our room". Well, he didn't. Room charges were triple billed to the credit card and it was difficult to get to the room with overcrowded elevators. I thought we might switch from The Rio....NEVER. The Rio should write a manual on "HOW TO MANAGE A HOTEL/CASINO".
Rude service
I stayed at the hotel 7/19/03 and paid full price considering it was a last minute thing. I took my family thinking it would be a great experience and booked two rooms requiring adjoining rooms. When we got there and checked in, they told us that we had adjoining rooms. When we got upstairs the rooms were not adjoining, so we called front desk to ask why that was. Their response to my cousin was rude and they said that they could not help us. So I decided to call myself and see what the deal was and if it was possible to correct it. In a tone totally not customer friendly the front desk clerk said they could not help us and that it was a busy weekend and that it was not their fault. Well then why tell us we were able to get adjoining rooms when we booked the reservation or tell us when we were checking in that we had adjoining rooms. Given that it is a small thing, however, had we known that we were not able to get adjoining rooms, we would not have booked the reservation. We are a pretty close family and we would rather have stayed together. It's too bad that Mandalay treated us that way because we will never go back there again, considering some of us go there at least once a month.
Nice hotel
We stayed at the Mandalay Bay from Wed. - Sat. Upgraded to a suite and rooms were spacious; bathroom was enormous. Spa tub was outstanding. Rooms were clean, but hallways not as clean. The reason for selecting the hotel was the pool. No matter when you go, it is extremely crowded! We had a terrible time finding chairs or even a space to place our towels and shoes. Even bigger crowds arrived on Friday. Don't bother renting a tube for the lazy river; you don't need it. House of Blues provided great food and live bands in the evening. One drawback to hotel is its distance from the heart of the strip. Cabs everywhere added up to about $25/day. Casinos were nice, but not too crowded. Overall, a great place to stay for use of the pool, but expect lots of people.
Can't Wait to Go Back to the Mandalay Bay
My family and I just spent 5 days at the Mandalay Bay and I can't wait to go back. The hotel was beautiful, the food was fabulous, and the staff was more than helpful and curteous!!
Stayed at the Bay
We stayed at Mandalay Bay on June 20-22, 2003. We had a suite, and although I think the girls were expecting a bigger room, it was really nice. Great shower...and we had a jacuzzi tub that we never even used! The room was great. We went to the pool, and frankly, after reading the reviews here, I was nervous, because we were 7 girls, but we only had 2 keys. They do check keys at the gate, and they slide them to make sure that they are valid...but we managed to all get in. Visit the lazy river and rent a tube! It's totally worth it. There were not any chairs available, but we just put our towels on the sidewalk and reserved ourselves a little area. It was a great day. We ate at the hotel...House of Blues has great food, also this little french cafe...and the rum jungle was fun as well. Overall I was totally pleased! Thanks, Mandalay!
