Basic Studios, but so clean! We enjoyed our stay so much here that we are returning in 3 weeks!
The family who own these studios are so welcoming and friendly and will try their hardest to deal with any queries or requests. Safety deposit boxes are 5 Euros a week and late checkout is 20 Euros. Whilst waiting for our return transfer coach, the lady made sure that everyone had a chair on the family veranda and offered us all coffee and water.
It's an approx 10 min walk to the beach and the nearest supermarket is just a 5 min walk away and so is the nearest taverna serving great authentic Greek food! We ate out every night in Kefalos and the most we paid for a two course meal with four beers was 20 Euros which works out at around £14.
We spoke to many who had returned time and time to Kefalos and I guess that we will now be doing the same.
This resort is typical Greek and not a Greek version of Blackpool! We have been to long haul destinations such as Antigua, Cuba and Mexico but Kefalos and its people has captured our hearts.

Well don’t be put off by Miss Burns above. Sounds like she didn’t have a good time at all.
This place is wonderful, its quiet yes but there is enough to be getting on with. There is an abundance of water sports, more than plenty bars and tavernas. Some bars are open till 0500 am! There are no idiots and the Kefalos locals are friendly and always there to help.
The place is cheap to eat and as are most things to buy. But shop around and you will see subtle differences in prices.
This is the ideal place to go for a cheap break, a cheap rest a cheap holiday , and you get the best value. Do not be put off. Zafira will even let you book their apartments separately and pick you up from the airport.
They are basic but adequate as is most things in Greece.
Well, what can I say about my...

Well, what can I say about my first visit to Kefalos, Kos. Not been to Greece for approx 10 years, still a little behind the times!
Firstly, we had very bad travelling experiences with Excel Airways, I vow never to fly with them again! We had a 25 hour delay going out, as we had no plane and no cabin crew, which is a great start to your holiday, especially when it’s only for 1 wk, I didn’t expect my first night to be spent in a hotel 5 minutes away from Manchester Airport. We eventually got to Kos, a day late.
I had a very bad allergic reaction to mosquito bites, what a nightmare that turned out to be. They went from bad to worse, so watch out! I’ve never been bitten before, but they certainly made up for it this time around! Had to visit the doctors, ended up having two injections that cost me 100 euro’s (beware, as the doctor didn’t take credit cards, only cash and he wasn’t interested in my form E111, just my travel insurance documents) lucky really that the cash machine was right outside his surgery. This is the 24 hour surgery that was closed. Not many people take credit cards, so take plenty of euros with you.
The heat suppressed our appetites and we didn’t really eat all day. We had one main meal per day and a wander along the main road. We ate on four occasions at Hub’s restaurant, this guy is so funny and he can speak 4 languages, what a fab place! We made good use of the Dolphin Pool bar during the day and for drinks in the evening too. Stoked was a really good bar, the freebie shot’s were very welcome, thanks! It takes about 20 minutes to walk up to the harbour area, where there are more bars and restaurants, it’s lovely in the evening and the sea breeze is great for that sunburn!
There was a distinct lack of tourists, it was very quiet for the time of year. August is supposed to be peak season?! Half of the accommodation was empty, not surprising really when you can’t get in or out of Kos unless you take your flippers and swim!!
I didn’t see a Libra rep all week by the way, I think they were a figment of our imagination. The only Libra Rep, Shelley, who was very nice, met us at the airport for our supposed return journey home only to tell us that we had a 20 hour delay! She only knew that because her nephew was on his way out to Kos and the plane we were supposed to be going home on, hadn’t even left Manchester!! Very impressive at 4.00am in the morning, so why bother picking us up?! After vacating our room at 12.00 during the day and wandering about like a nomad for the rest of the day. Excel are an absolute shambles and will be getting very many complaint letters, of that I’m certain. There were a lot of tears at the airport and that put the tin hat on the whole holiday experience really!
Kefalos itself is a very small, but beautiful island, we were going to explore by boat, but the heat just got to us. Most people get around on Scooters and Quad Bikes. There is a local bus service to Kos Town, I think the last one from Kos back to Kefalos is 9.00pm at night. We had English breakfast at T42, just across the way from where we were staying and we also had three supermarkets on our doorstep, literally!
I won’t let this bad experience put me off, however, if I do decide to go back, possibly a different time of year, as it was very hot, stock up on Anti Mosquito repellent and certainly won’t be flying with Excel Airways.
Hope this review helps.
Many thanks
Julie
