" A Fantastic Holiday "

We arrived at the Kiotari Bay / Miraluna hotel in the middle of the night excited but also apprehensive to what laid in wait at the "hotel" I had read lots of reviews a week before the holiday and could not find one good review. The reviews in the past were obviously out of date, the hotel was great the food was good, the entertainment was good the room was not amazing but was clean and had all that we needed, the balcony we had to share which was not a problem because the other family were out most of the time, but if they weren't the balcony's are not that big and may of been a pain to share. In the past a lot of bad reviews stated that the Kiotari and The Miraluna Bay were run as to different Hotels with different restaurants and so on, the hotel is now ran as one and we didnt experience any of the "them" and "us" that other reviews from holiday makers had experienced in the past of a divide in the two hotels. The bad points which were a pain were having to wait for tables for food we were a big party and went on holiday together and we wanted to eat together so in the second week when the hotel was a lot busier this could be a pain. The hotel also could of done with a few more staff also to serve drinks and to clear tables as it was really busy. Over all we had a really good holiday and it was a good four star if not plus hotel we have been too five star hotels in the past that have not been so good.

" Hot and bothered!!!! "

My husband, two boys (10 & 15) and I, arrived at 11.30pm. At reception we were handed a poorly photocopied map of the site and pointed in the general direction of our accommodation - there was no offer of help with the cases. After 20 mins of walking round a rather large site, with extremely poor lighting we admitted defeat and returned to reception. At this point, the receptionist did come out and guide us to the correct block. After managing two suitcases up two flights of stairs - we were delighted to find a lift as our room was situated on the third floor - however....the lift didnt work! Infact the lift worked on and off throughout our stay. We eventually got to the room, which was clean and basic but unbelievably warm - it was very apparent that the air conditioning was not working. Deciding it would all be better in the morning, we tried to get some sleep - but the oppressive heat was too much - my husband went to reception to let them know and we had a very concerned night receptionist come to experience the non-operating air conditioning unit, whilst he agreed it wasnt working (gee thanks!)we were told nothing could be done until the next morning. Unsurprisingly, none of us got any sleep that night. After much hanging about the next day we were offered 'an upgrade' which would cost us an extra 10 Euros per day, on visiting the new room - the only difference we could see was that the air con worked and there was a dvd player! After a bit of a fuss an engineer was despatched to fix our air con unit. At least it worked after that, but it wasnt great - it certainly wasnt a large enough unit to cool the two rooms meaning we had to drag a mattress into our room for the boys to sleep top to tail, we then closed the other room off leaving a smaller area to be cooled - it was at least tolerable after that. On speaking to other holiday makers, a vast number experienced similar difficulties with their air con. Clean towels and bedsheets were regularly changed.
The food was varied, hot snd there was something for everyone - even the fussiest of eaters. As with every all-inclusive holiday, it all gets a bit 'samey' after about 5 days, but thats to be expected. The catering and waiting staff are very professional and hard working. The drinks were poor, orange juice was no more than cordial, the other soft drinks were of a low quality. The selection of alcoholic drinks was at best uninspiring.
The animation team work really hard, they're young and enthusiastic. However, the entertainment in the evening was poor but you make the best of it as you're a bit of a captive audience there! Not too many alternative venues around.
The pools were good, the children loved that side of the holiday. The nearby beach was shingle/gravel, but was a nice alternative to the pool.
On the whole a reasonable week in the sun, you're a bit captive on the site, with very little around - we could have done without the air con issue which ruined our first night and took quite a bit of persistence on our part to get it resolved!

" Greatest Holiday Yet "

My family and I returned home from Miraluna Hotel on the 22/7/09. Our time there was fantastic. During the day there were activities such as Aqua Gym, Volley Ball and water polo and more. The room I stayed in with my Parents was lovely (the air conditioning could have been better). Also the ride to the room is funny. One bad thing about the room was that cockroaches got up through the toilet pipes. But we killed them afterwards. At mealtimes the food was lovely I kept going back for seconds. The food isn't all greek there's lots of variety. At Dinner the greek corner is open at the top of the restaurant. Some nights we went to the snack bars. The snack bar beside the water park there isn't anything appetising but don't worry because there is another near the entrance which is great. You can get chips burgers and ice-cream. On Tuesdays, Thursdays, Sundays there is a disco on at the club which is for children and adults. The entertainment there is great my Favourite was "40 minutes" where they only have a certain time to change into a different costume which is hillarious. Also the entertainment crew are fantastic especially Judith as she gets people involed in the different activities. This resort is great for the beach as it is only a 5minute walk. If you fancy going shopping Pefkos and Lindos are great places to visit. We went to Lindos for a whole day which was lovely. This Hotel is definately based for families. It is fantastic and we are wanting to go back next year. It was "The Greatest Holiday Yet".

Advice: Great place but no shops in the place.

" A friend and I have just returned... "

A friend and I have just returned from our Holiday at Kiotari Bay Hotel. Having read reviews on this hotel before we left I was a little worried. We were booked into Miraluna which is supposed to be the 5* but we were put into Kiotari 3* although we had bands on and could use both hotels.
We did think about asking to be moved but we enjoyed where we were, we had a ground level room close to the pool so was handy during the day and we worked out that Miraluna was prodominantly Germans, where as Kiotari had English, Russian, Polish and other nationalities, who were all very friendly.
The food was ok, did get a bit repetitive but there was always something we would eat, and there was always plenty of fresh fruit.
The Animation team were good fun and got us involved in daily activities, Stretching, water gym, water polo, darts, etc but at the same time they were not too pushy, so if you want lazy days you can (we did for the first couple of days!)
The evening entertainment was ok, they had a couple of very good acts on while we were there and we didnt go down every night as didnt start till gone 10pm.
From what we saw and heard, the kids entertainment was great and there was a pirate pool which looked fab.
The hotel had plenty of pools and none of them ever got too crowded. There was always plenty of sun loungers so you could move around during the day if you wanted to.
My friend and I went for a relaxed holiday and thats what we got. I wouldnt recommend it if you want to party every night although we did find a nice bar locally and am sure there are a few local bars around and Falaraki is about an hours drive away.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone and I would consider going back if i wanted another relaxing holiday.

" We had a really good holiday here.... "

We had a really good holiday here. Granted it was not really a 4* but a reasonable 3* hotel, so don't let the rating fool you.

All the staff were really friendly - the First Choice kids reps and the entertainment team (Greece Animation team) as well as the bar and waiting staff. A smile and a chat goes a long way with them all. Pools were clear and clean and not over-crowded and the beer was cold. We joined in the Animation sports etc and made some good friends (british, dutch and german) that way.

The food was fine, although sometimes not hot enough. If that was the case I just waited till they replaced the tray and dashed up for it! Plenty of choice - rather than take a bit of everything pick a couple of dishes and it does not get repetitive.

The shows were not world class but certainly filled some time and kept us entertained. Kids loved the mini disco every night and never tired of it.

The air conditioning in the room was lovely - we had to keep the door open between the rooms to get the cool into the 'lounge' (where me and husband were sleeping) but that was okay. Our room was down near the pirate bar so an ideal location for late night snacks or chilling outside the room while ours were in the pirate pool. There were plenty of sunbeds but you did have to get up early to reserve them. I have to confess to a late night 'raiding party' to move towels put out on the beds at 11 pm!!!! The room was a bathroom, bedroom and lounge area - big enough for 5 (2 adults and 3 kids) and their bits and pieces.

Hotel was kept clean and tidy and the pools cleaned daily. The pool cleaner used to hout 'in the pool' to my daughter and I in the mornings as we lay on the sunbeds as he knew we were itching to get in as soon as possible.

Itching - there was some nasty beastie which liked the taste of me and I was glad I had taken anti-histamine cream and tablets. These were not mosquito bites but were very unpleasant and 3 were very bad. I used 'Deet' bands after that and was not bitten again. The kids and husband did not get bitten at all.

The shop in the hotel stocks basics and extra, and the greek lady (american accent to confuse you!) is very very helpful if you want advice/tourist tips etc. She'll also 'break' larger euro notes for you too.

First Choice handling of the smoke evacuation was very poor but as that is another matter will not go into it. Just suggest that you ask them about their disaster planning and their evacuation procedures...

I did not go to the Zeus bar but husband did and he said prices were as per UK and drinks were good (he said the guiness was great). Snacks at the snack bar were fine - greek meatballs/burgers, pizza, moussaka, chips, salad, ham, chsses, and also cookies and cakes. If you want coffee or tea outside mealtimes then go down there.

Overall we had a lovely holiday. Kids reps made it a fantastic fun time for the kids, pools were lovely and food was good. Are we likely to go back? Yes!

" Me my partner and 3 chrildren aged 11... "

Me my partner and 3 chrildren aged 11 ,9 ,6 stayed at the kiotari bay hotel for 2 weeks we found it to be very clean thats the grounds and the rooms, the rooms were cleaned every day fresh towels every day and fresh bedding every second day. The rooms were basic but ok for what you need as your not in there alot. The grounds were clean and well maintained the swimming pools were very nice the pirate ship and small pool area were ideal for the kids, the water spraying pipes are on from 10am till 1400. the staff were friendly and was not over powering like some places, the animation greece staff were good they done the daytime and evening entertainment, the evening entertainment was ok but nothing fantastic and it always seemed to run later than planned. The restuarant was clean but always had lots of flies about which could be a pain at times, the food was ok but you have to be the sort of person thats willing to try anything as they did have to cater for alot of different nationalites. Word of warning they charge 6% to change money in the hotel and there isnt anywhere else to change your money unless you go to lindos, mind you there isnt anywhere to spend money unless you go on the trips,we was there for 2 weeks and spent about £100 and most of that was on some pictures done by the hotel photographer which was worth the money. The air condicioning is included in the price which i think is good as alot of places charge extra for this. Overall it was a good holiday and to be honest i would go back as it was relaxing and just nice in general.

" We have just returned from the... "

We have just returned from the beautiful island of Rhodes, from a first fantastic week although the entertainment was repetitive, the head rep useless, the room full of ants and the food basically aimed at german clientele we threw ourselves into our holiday.

The second week was a farce from start to finish. The nearby fire (which the reps were blind too) came closer and closer. The smoke engulfed the hotel and still no reps to be seen. Eventually the hotel took over and evacuated everyone to the beach only for First Choice reps to turn up and send everyone back to the reception.

We where then carted off to a nearby beach to stop us having to breathe in the smoke where we sat until 8.40pm. An announcement was made that they would be returning everyone so we could pack one overnight case and we had 15 minutes to do this. On our return we packed one bag and then preceeded to wait 1 and 1/2 hours in the lobby breathing in smoke with our 2 children aged 7 and 2.

At my request one the reps asked the hotel manager to provide drinks to everyone at the payable bar only to be told that "THEY ALL PAY AT THAT BAR". These children had had nothing to eat since 10 am, and the hotel would not even provide a coke or lemonade to keep them happy in this nightmare.

After 1 and 1/2 hours we where told that food would be available at the alternative hotel - a meal that is would be provided, and we where told to get onto the coach, but - no hotel had yet been found they would be taking us to Bubbles and a rep would meet us there.

Surprise surprise - no rep and what we all thought would be a hotel reception for the 18-30 market (Bubbles) turned out to be an open air bar in the middle of faliriki. Proceeding to sit there for nearly 2 hours when a rep eventually turned up, then the coaches where we where taken to an alternative hotel. And yes you all guessed no meal would be provided on our arrival.

A farce from start to finish, no communication from First Choice, lack of organisation, and lies upon lies.

There where approx 100 people in this open air bar, we where not dressed for this occasion. My 2 year old cried for nearly 2 hours, she was cold, hungry and tired.

The bar owner was fantastic he rang the mayor and started the ball rolling and I rang up head office emergency hotline, and eventually a rep turned up.

Our daughter was worse for wear for days after, tired from lack of sleep, and this in turned ruined the last few days.

The head rep couldnt care less her flippant attitude exaserbated the situated and her lack of communication and interpersonal skills were evident throughout.

Will never travel with first choice again and will never go all inclusive again. For watered down alchohol, cheap pop, orange juice that was cordial go all inclusive.

" We (husband and three kids 10, 9, and... "

We (husband and three kids 10, 9, and 6) had a fantastic holiday at kiotari bay hotel so much so we have booked to go back next year.

Room was very clean and cleaned daily with fresh towels. We had a room by the pirate ship which was great for the kids!

Food was great something for everyone and the kids especially enjoyed the unlimited icecream throughout the day! Drinks were great too i recommend the berry buster coctail in the Zues bar.

The Animation team were great throughout the day by the pool and during the evening entertainment as were the first choice reps who were great with my kids who enjoyed many of the first choice clubs and thats where they made lots of friends.

If you prefer sandy beaches( the beach with hotel is shingles) we recommend the beach which is one bus stop down the road( a bus timetable is available from the helpful reception team).

" We have not long returned from our... "

We have not long returned from our holiday at the Kiotari Bay Hotel and it was excellent. Me, my husband and three children (3,7 and 8) have never been to Rhodes before and after reading the reviews were very anxious about going. The reviews on the Hotel were mixed but I can't understand why? We had a great time.

After reading many reviews we had plans to upgrade when we got there, but after meeting different families when we got there we then descided not too. The food at the Kiotari Bay was excellent. My husband is a fussy eater and he really enjoyed the meals. There is something there for the kids too, which is usually chips and something, but they would quite often have the meat and veg from the adult selection. There is always fresh bread, fruit and loads of salad. I could not fault the food.

Our room was very small as all of us were cramed into two small rooms, but we spent no time in our rooms except to sleep and get ready. Our room was right next to the pirate ship. If you have young children this room is a must. It saves the walks to and from the rooms all day!

In the evening they have a mini disco for the kids, bingo and an act. Although the songs for the kids were repetative the kids loved them. And the animation staff who work very hard are excellent. They helped to make the holiday so good.

The kids reps are fantastic. I didn't really want the kids to go to the clubs, but once they went and made friends, their was no stopping them and they was probably at the club for two hours a day!!!!

In my opinion this Hotel is excellent and great value for money. The kids are entertained all day with the pirate ship and water sprinklers. We could have as many drinks and as much food as we liked. The kids went to the clubs with their mates and everyone was happy. I would recommend this hotel to people with a young family and am hoping to visit it again next year. Hope this helps.

" Kiotari Bay Miraluna was the best... "

Kiotari Bay Miraluna was the best holiday i have ever been on. Before going on this holiday i read some reviews and was not looking forward to it at all, but i have to say i was pleasantly surprised and impressed with the hotel.

The food was amazing and catered for all.

The pools were cold all the time, which was good in the heat. The Animation Team, Aurel, Mel, Terry, Lorenzo, Vale and GianCarlo, were all amazing in what they done. They worked from early in the morning to late at night for very little money. They should definetely get paid more for what they do. The bingo was great, even though we dont like bingo and didnt take part. Aurel was very good with the different languages, which was entertaining. The arcade was also great fun for the kids, and the especially liked playing air hockey.

The room was cleaned everyday and kept in great condition. Towels were changed at regular intervals as well. Nansie on reception was especially helpful and does her job fantastically.

Overall, the holiday was fantastic and will definetely be returning again.

" My family has just returned a few... "

My family has just returned a few days ago from this hotel (me, husband, 2 children aged 7 and 3).

We had a good holiday but there are a couple of things which could be improved upon. Firstly, the children's entertainment in the evening was extremely repetitive and consisted entirely of the mini disco (same 5 songs every evening), no games, nothing.

All the evening entertainment took place right next to the pool and five very big concrete steps (shaped in a kind of horse shoe for people to sit on). I saw one cracked open head while we were there (7 nights), I found it very difficult to relax in this area with a boisterous 3 year old wanting to run around!

There was children's clubs during the daytime but our children did not take part in these. With no offence to the children's reps but they barely look old enough to look after a dog let alone my children!

Secondly, the drinks were pretty poor quality in my opinion - in particular the lemonade and coke tasted nothing like they should.

The food at the hotel was good quality and varied if a little cold at times.

Unfortunately we were delayed both ways on our First Choice flights (3 hours on the way there and 90 mins on the way back), understandable but an apology from First Choice would have gone a long way to improve my attitude towards them (will not be travelling with them again).

Our room was cleaned every day and fresh towels left which was a nice touch. All too often a family of four gets shoved in one room but this room had 2 separate bedrooms and was pretty spacious.

Nansi on reception was very helpful to us (especially as our little boy had chicken pox while we were there)

This is our second trip to Rhodes itself - this side of the island is definitely the best. We hired a car for 3 days for 75 euros from the car hire place just outside reception. We used the car to visit some of the places that we loved from our last trip.

The best places we have found on the island are:
Lindos (in particular St Pauls Bay) - take your snorkel there are loads of fish to see and pretty big too!
Tsambica Beach - a beautiful long stretch of sandy beach, clear water, sand underneath our feet, 2 shops, 2 places to eat - nothing more - well worth a trip (about 40 mins away from Kiotari)

We would also recommend a restaurant called "Palm Bay" on the main road to Pefkos. The food is great as is the view (overlooking Lardos Bay) - and pretty reasonable too.

Rhodes 10/10, this hotel 7/10 - I would come back to Rhodes but not to the Kiotari Bay Hotel. If you like drinking beer from 10 am until midnight and letting your kids get on with entertaining themselves, then this is the place for you!
