Jun 2007, Mr M Briggs

We spent 1 night in the Tropicana Hotel prior to our road trip around the mid west and mainly picked the Hotel due to it being cheap (£16 for the night - we only wanted somewhere to put our heads down). Well for the money it was excellent! I required an accessible room,... more

Where do I begin, I guess I will begin on day one. After arriving on a late night flight I ordered two glasses of wine. When asked by the bartender if we wanted to run a tab we said no and an instant attitude developed when he slammed down our debit card and walked away. We... more

This place is a dump!
We recently stayed at the Tropicana as part of the AARP convention. This place is a dump. The restaurant was closed, the bars were closed, and the room was awful and dirty. On top of that, they over charged my credit card afterwards and it is not easy to get them to fix it. This place needs to be torn down........
If you have a budget but want a good location, stay at Tropicana
Tropicana is in a good location and is good if your on a budget. Its connected to the MGM Grand and Excalibur. The hotel inside is a little outdated. The Casino is a pretty good size, but there is not much going on as far as bars, and there are no clubs. The rooms need renovation in my opinion, and there was no pressure in the showerhead, but like I said, if your on a budget but want a good location, Tropicana is good for that.
Perfect location, great price, yet so much room for improvement
This is a pretty good hotel if you want a great location for a small price; the hotel itself is visibly old and not as well taken care of as it could be. When I first arrived I was even a little grossed out by the carpets, as well as the windows, that look like they haven't been washed in years at the very least. Hotel amenities like shops and restaurants are limited, though Excalibur, Luxor and NY NY are close enough if you need more options. Still, I think I'd rather pay a little bit more and stay at a nicer place and not worry about never taking my shoes off in my hotel room as much as I did this trip.
Horrible....Can't believe they are still open
Couldn't believe it....rooms were gross, dirty, bedding stained, walls dirty, bathroom with broken tiles, missing grout, just awful to say the least. Poor service if any at all. Couldn't get a drink to save your life. Drab atmosphere. Pool wasn't open. Buffet was terrible. Spa was closed. Fitness area was closed. It was almost like the place was closing there doors right under us. We checked out 1 hour after checking in.
Not Worth It
I was in Vegas for a little while, and wanted to try a lower priced hotel to ease my pocketbook, than staying at a fancier hotel/casino again. The first problem occurred, when I got to the hotel and the price for the room was like $9 more than what the lady on the phone told me it'd be, because of their "resort fee"..... I stayed in the supposed "newly renovated" rooms... The only thing that seemed renovated to me where the hallways and spaces by the elevators, which were glamorous. So I was shocked when I entered the room and it looked dirty and old. The carpet looked dirty and their were stains on it. The room didn't smell good either. The bathtub and shower head seemed outdated as well. The TV was so SMALL, that you could not really make out the picture from the bed... Also, there was a Door connecting to another room next to mine. It felt unsafe because the door was really old and the deadbolt lock seemed really small...Also, you could hear everything the other people in that room were doing... The only thing there I liked was the fact that they had a fridge in the closet (although being small..), b.c not enough hotels have fridges anymore. Also, the casino area was very trashy feeling. I paid like $76 with taxes each night to stay there. The most I'd ever pay to stay there again would be like $18 or less.
good value for money
I stayed in this hotel with my husband this summer for our romantic vacation. Before I went there I read the reviews here and sort of concerned about the outdated construction of this place. But when we arrived, I felt that the old-fashioned room decorations turned out to be pretty interesting to me. The mirrors all around the bed, included on the ceilings, are very romantic and enjoyable. The location of this hotel is perfect. If you are planning a trip LV not specially for the fancy hotels but for the overall fun of the city, this hotel is a very good choice with a good value for your money.
Started off bad, but ended good.
When we first got there we were extremely disappointed because for the same price we could have stayed in a much nicer hotel, and that was after we were supposedly "upgraded". The rooms we had (we had rented a total of 3 rooms because there were 3 couples going) were almost roach motel material: extremely ugly, dirty tubs, and a/c didn't work. One of the people I traveled with decided to talk to the manager and see if we could either get moved into a new room or get a refund and we would just go to another hotel. After expressing her complete disgust with the manager we were all moved to the newer part of the hotel (they are in the process of renovating but it will not be complete for another year) which was a lot nicer and more to our liking. So, although the stay started off completed bad, it ended better but we had to complain in order to received a better room without paying the difference. Overall, I think next time I would stay at a different hotel, especially if it is going to be the same price.
Great price & location
We stayed here because we wanted to be on the strip but were on a budget. It's really dated and not one of the Casinos you'd choose to eat, drink or hang out in, but rooms and big and nice and clean and it's in a great spot. We didn't want to go to Las Vegas and stay in our hotel/casino so it was perfect for us. We were out all day and night and just needed somewhere to crash. Having said that, it was quite nice and great pool area. Unless you are looking for somewhere palatial and want to spend all your time in the hotel, there is no reason you wouldn't stay here.
Oct Trip 09
The hotel seemed to be a bit shabby, BUT they are doing a revamp, remodel. So I think in the future it will be nice. Rooms were slightly shbby but the beds were comfortable, and lighting good. Plenty of linen and when ask for extra pillows, got them in no time.
Nice to stay
This is a nice hotel. Not new, not big, but good to stay. Usually it is hard to access from Parking to a room or to the strip, but this hotel is not so far if you are not staying in a island tower. That's the point to not waisting your time.
