Dom Pedro Baia Hotel Reviews
" This hotel does not earn its 4 stars... "
Submitted By: Mr T Peters
This hotel does not earn its 4 stars at all. Very poor beds and noisy rooms. Televisions in other rooms sound like they are standing in your own room. Very annoying when you are tired and want to go to sleep! Receptionists not always polite.
Reception also lost my passport after I gave it to them at the check-in. Next morning it was suddenly disappeared. Had to make it clear that I did not get it back already and I also had to get angry to receive an expense cover. Very poor and bad hotel.
Sorry about my English

" By UK standards this is a 2 star... "
Submitted By: Mr SP Eastmead
By UK standards this is a 2 star nearly a 3* hotel. Staff very helpful and polite. Food generally good but there are some negatives. Nearly all the veg was frozen some may have been tinned. Never saw a fresh potato. Hot food only luke warm. Desserts many and varied, rather dry and bland needed cream or ice cream, neither was available. No coffee included in dinner. Salads good but not much fresh leaf salads. Hot breakfast poor. In 14 days scrambled egg served 10 times, boiled eggs x2, fried eggs x2. Only ever one other hot item with whatever egg was available e.g. mushrooms / bacon /sausage.
Reception rooms including Hall, Dining Room, Bar and function rooms are all very drab and dark. The only exception is the semicircular part of the dining room which is pleasant. Bedroom light and clean but it was too hot and the A/C was turned off by the hotel (No user controls). No fridge, no glasses, no kettle, bath drain leaked (Room 703!) again no glasses just handless mugs. No Ice machine. Insufficient electrical sockets to recharge mobiles etc. Have to pay extra for the safe. Mattress very hard often caused backache. Constantly woken up by neighbours dragging beds and or chairs across the tiled floors. Parking limited. TV English = SKY news only! Only 1 PC re Internet access in reception cannot sit down to use it!
Machico pleasant, 5 minutes from airport but little airport noise. Limited shops.

" My wife and I stayed in the Dom Pedro... "
Submitted By: Mr J Ruddock
My wife and I stayed in the Dom Pedro Baia Hotel during the last week in Jan 2002 and found it very comfortable with very good service from the staff. The hotel at the time was in the process of being painted externally but this did not detract from our pleasant stay there. We found the meals were no worse than many a 4 star hotel we have stayed at in the past with the added bonus that bottled water and House wine were provided free at Dinner.
Machico is a small fishing village which though having many pleasant restaurants and bars is rather quite and laid back, so don’t go there for an exciting nightlife. However where it is an excellent base if you enjoy waking and climbing. Our Tour Operator provided Taxi transfer from and to the Airport at no extra cost, unusual these days, and their arranged trips were only 1 or 2 Euro's more than the locals offered.
In all a very satisfactory Holiday

This is definately not up to 4 star standards. More like a 2 or 3 star rating.
The reception staff are not always polite or helpful. Breakfast was always either sausage, bacon, baked beans, mushrooms (never all together) served with poached eggs, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs (never all together). Breafast was definatelty lacking in the variety department.
The rooms were basic with no hairdryers, no iron or ironing board (not just in the rooms but in the whole hotel) no plugs around the room to recharge mobiles, no tea/ coffee making facillities, no air control panels in the room just cold tiled noisy floors, very hard uncomfortable beds which gave me a backache each time I woke up in the morning. The swimming pool was also out of action for the entire 7 days I was there. The reason they gave ....it was being cleaned!!!!
Reception Lobby has been completely taken over by wicker chairs and poor lighting.
Entertainment.....ha i dont think the hotel knows how to entertain their guests. It is boring during the day and boring at night. Definately not for anyone younger than 55 years old.
Machico town is small with nothing to do once you get there,
All in all a complete disaster thanks to Dom Pedro Baia.
