If you’re looking for a fantastic location to give you a taste of Vegas, choose the Imperial Palace
If you’re looking for a quiet place to stay don’t choose here, but if you’re looking for a lively venue, with regular performances by all sorts of ’stars’ you can’t go wrong. The room was a good size, clean and comfortable, and the housekeeping services were very helpful. The reception staff were also helpful, I had been quoted a price per night for a friend to come and join me for my Birthday, and they honored the price even though it has recently gone up. The best thing about the hotel though, has to be the location; just opposite the forum shops with a link to the monorail and a bus stop just up the road, it was easy to get anywhere.
Tip on local attractions
Don’t miss all the free shows especially Fremont Street-if travelling in a taxi there ask for the Plaza hotel. You can buy multi-ride tickets for the monorail and share them with more than 1 person- ie a 6 ride ticket could give 3 different people a return journey. The duce bus ticket is fantastic value as you can use it on any bus service and get all round the place for just $5 for 24 hours. The Voodoo lounge at the Rio offers a fantastic view of the strip and some lovely food & cocktails.
Fly Virgin- direct flights and good service

I've recently returned from a 6 day trip to Las Vegas and I'm still getting over the jet lag along with the disappointment. Don't get me wrong this is my second trip to Vegas and as always its wonderfully brash and in your face. I did however feel very let down by the Tour Operator, Expedia, and somewhat mislead by their images and write up of the Imperial Palace Hotel and Casino.
The Hotel to its credit is smack bang in the middle of the strip virtually opposite Caesar’s Palace. However the quality of the rooms are below standard. Initially when I booked the hotel, knowing that it wasn't one of luxurious hotels such as the Bellagio, I wasn't too worried. This was because I had stayed at Circus, Circus which is equally tacky as a casino but the rooms were great.
The rooms inside the Imperial Palace however were very tired looking and the bathroom facilities were done out in an interesting shade of beige circa 1970's. There were stains on the carpet and it just looked liked it needed a good cleaning! Also Expedia described it as recently renovated. Actually what they failed to mention was that it was still being renovated. Dust sheets covered the whole of our corridor and we got an early alarm call everyday of banging and drilling. If that wasn't enough, we had to fight to get into the lifts most days and ended up most of the time walking down the seventeen flights of stairs.
The plus points were the staff and the 2 for 1 drinks in the Bar just outside the entrance.
Apart from the room being a bit of a disaster, the flights which were booked with BMI and their affiliated US airline United were a complete nightmare. I had paid more to have one connection only in Chicago however this schedule changed several times before we went and we ended up having to get another connecting flight in Denver.
Getting connecting flights in the US can be very stressful especially if you have to go through Immigration first. We ended up running the length of Chicago airport with our footwear in our hands to catch the next plane. We did by sheer luck and determination manage to catch all of our flights however our luggage didn't, so we ended up in the clothes we travelled in on our first night in Vegas!
We thought it couldn't get much worse but on our return another flight was cancelled. We were sent to Los Angeles Airport, waited there for half a day for a flight to Heathrow and then an internal flight on to Manchester. I suppose my only advice on flights is pay the extra and get direct flights and choose another airline, I find Virgin are consistently good.
Overall Marks out of 10 for Vegas, definitely a 9 1/2, its mad and its great. The Imperial Palace, 8 for location but a 2 for quality. BMI and Expedia a big fat zero, don't promise what you can't deliver!

I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights as part of a three-trip package with San Francisco and NY.
The hotel itself is not exactly the most famous on the Strip but is certainly one of the cheaper ones. If you want something simple to lay your head then this is it.
I imagined that we would be too busy out and about to bother too much about the hotel and, to be honest; we were hardly in the room as there is so much to see and so in Vegas all you need is a few hours sleep.
The rooms are basic enough and we were at the back of the hotel overlooking the air con vents and a car park. Tidy and clean with a huge bathroom. A little noisy outside the room but given the people coming home at all hours like myself you can allow for it a little.
Clean sheets and towels daily and the staff are all very nice and helpful although the check-in/out desk is a nightmare to negotiate as it’s like a post office queue.
Location is ideal slam bang in the middle of the Strip within walking distance (5-10 mins) to all of the famous hotels Bellagio, Vatican, etc.
I didn't eat at the hotel, as there is so much to see and do all over the town that you are spoilt for choice. It does have all of the usual coffee shops; burger bars pubs to keep anyone busy though. The hotel has a car museum inside although it is very easy to get lost in there as we did several times.
Entertainment was in the form of a kind of 'Stars in Your Eyes' tribute night with Madonna, Michael Jackson, Lionel Ritchie, Elvis impersonators all treading the board then coming into the casino to mix with the punters.
Overall, very pleasant and clean enough. It’s one of those hotels that aren't easily remembered as being interesting or exciting as it is what it is - a cheaper alternative to the bigger hotels at the same location.
Bus stops outside the doors take you directly to the huge out-of-town shopping malls you need and the airport is 20mins away by minivan.

Check in was smooth, got talking to the clerk about Robin Hood and the Queen and he upgraded us to the Love Tub Suite, which was fantastic.
Everything about the hotel was great and to cap it all we ended up winning a few bucks on the slots. Will definitely be returning.

I flew with United Airlines from Heathrow via San Francisco (where I did my Customs & Immigration clearance). This was cheaper than flying non-stop (only available from the South with Virgin) and, although a couple of hours longer, much of that was taken up standing in the Immigration queue!
Vegas is in the middle of a desert so, unlike many large cities, their airport is just a couple of miles out of town. Not much in a taxi, but (being a cheapskate) I took an airport shuttle bus. If there were 3 of you, the taxi would be cheaper.
The Imperial Palace is bang in the middle of the famous "Strip" and nearly opposite the much posher Caesar's Palace. It has seen better days, though I understand it is due for a makeover.
However, it has its own station on the monorail system, which is a great advantage. My standard room looked a little tired, and my biggest disappointment was the lack of a coffee machine, normally found in even the lowliest stateside motels - I understand that this is part of the psychology - to get you to go downstairs and spend money (preferably in the Casino, but the restaurant would be a consolation prize!).
I thought their coffee a little expensive, so every morning I nipped out to Burger King (100 yards) and brought back my brown bag...
However, it was good value for £45 a night. My first room was a little noisy as it overlooked an open air plaza with a band - they changed me to the other side of the hotel with speed and courtesy without me having to make any fuss.
I would recommend to anyone on a budget who wants a central location.

This was our 2nd visit to this fab place. There is an old saying "you gets what you pay for", and in this case it was correct.
The hotel is central right on the strip but I am afraid that is all it has going for it.
The rooms are dated, dirty and the bathrooms well enough said, it really wants pulling down and starting all over again.
But on a lighter note who would want to miss any of this wonderful place. The fountains at the Bellagio, the pirate show at Treasure Island, the volcano at the mirage and all for free just stand and enjoy.
Would I go back again yes yes yes, for it is a fab place and cannot wait.
The first time we stayed at the Luxor, what a place! Luxury all the way. Great staff, great service. Well worth it.

We flew Us Airways to Las Vegas...we were delayed 3 hours at Philadelphia airport due to bad weather...to get our connecting flight to Vegas.... we stayed at the Imperial Palace for 5 nights.... great location an the strip.... really relaxed fun place to stay.... rooms adequate...staff friendly.this was our 3rd time in Vegas...we had an amazing time once again!!.... Great casinos, restaurants, shops, shows and amazing places to see nearby outside of Vegas too.... Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon, Red Rock Canyon.... we had a fantastic holiday and are already planning another trip back to Vegas!!!
However, we wouldn't fly US Airways again.... Virgin would be our first choice to fly direct or United Airlines via Chicago.

You get what you pay for as a rule, and on the Strip in Las Vegas, the Imperial Palace is cheap. The rooms aren't luxurious - certainly not compared with what you can get in LV, but if your room is somewhere to park your kit and sleep, who cares?
The HUGE advantage of the IP is its location pretty much centre strip. This way, assuming you are reasonably fit and avoid the really hot months, everything is within walking distance.
I've used the IP three of four times, and if the price was right (prices vary hugely in Vegas depending on booking levels) I'd do it again.

Despite reading negative reports about the Imperial Palace Hotel in Las Vegas prior to going there recently, my partner and I were pleasantly surprised and had a wonderful holiday there.
The hotel is in a prime spot on the 'strip', close to all the other hotels and the shopping malls and has a good monorail link which travels from one end of the strip to the other.
The hotel is not too big, unlike some of the others on the strip, which is better for finding your way around. The swimming pool area was never crowded and there were plenty of sunbeds available and the pool was always clean.
The rooms may need a bit of an update but they were of a fairly good size and were clean and the beds were comfortable. All rooms had balconies which was nice as alot of the bigger hotels do not have these.
The restaurants and buffets were good.
For the price we paid we would definitely go back to stay at the Imperial Palace.

Las Vegas is an amazing place and I would advise anybody to go there for a holiday. There are so many spectacular things to look at. Everything about Las Vegas absolutely blew my mind! I can remember it now...all the lights and noise , the food (there was so much choice) and every single person I talked to there was courteous and polite and nice.
The weather was still extremely hot even though it was January. The hotel was fantastic, everything is always open, all the restaurants, all the shops, all the casino’s. I'm going Again January 2006, I cant wait! If there is anybody thinking of going, then I would definitely consider flying over the Grand Canyon. It was the most exhilarating thing... flying over the Canyon and Lake Mead.
The Hoover Dam is also included in that trip where you find out some of the most amazing facts. At the end of the day, I can find nothing wrong with Las Vegas and I honestly don’t think that I will ever go on holiday anywhere else.

I spent four nights in the imperial palace back in July 08. I choose this hotel mainly due to the cost; it’s one of the cheapest places on the strip. It is situated in great location right opposite caesars palace and the mirage and virtually next door to the ventican.
On arrival the casino itself seemed very busy, the check-in staff were very polite and helpful, the whole check-in process took about 15 mins. The room we were allocated was at the side of the hotel, which meant that there was hardly any noise from outside, we also found it was always in the shade so we never had to turn on the noisy air conditioning unit. I was very impressed with our room, it was modern and clean (room cleaned and towels changed every day) and it even had a balcony.
I personally was impressed with the hotel casino, it is a lot smaller than most casinos on the strip but because of the lack of space everything is closer which in my opinion made a better atmosphere. Another benefit with the smaller casino is it’s easier to get the attention of the cocktail waitresses, which saved me a small fortune not having to buy drinks from the numerous expensive bars inside.
The only draw backs I found with the imperial palace was it looked a bit dated compared to other hotels and the food in the restaurant was not all that great(we ate in dennys next door) and finally the swimming pool was to small and a bit boring compared to others.
I would defiantly recommend the imperial palace, its excellent value for money, clean, friendly, in a fantastic location and if I ever return to Vegas I will stay here again assuming its still there and not been replaced by something costing much more
