Nice rooms, good food
from A TripAdvisor Member
Having never been downtown on a trip to Vegas we decided to stay at the GN for 3 nights. Took a cab instead of the shuttle to our hotel since last trip it took us 11/2 hrs to get to the luxor after dropping off everyone else at their hotel. It was well worth $30 not having to wait to get to the hotel after a long flight. Was disappointed at checkin when we were told the pool was closed for remodeling, especially since I had asked when I made the reservation a month before if they did have a pool and was told yes, I guess I should have asked if they had a pool that was actually open for guests to use. They told us we could swim at the Mirage. Well not wanting to take a shuttle to the strip especially coming back in a wet bathing suit, we decided not to take them up on that offer. The hotel was beautiful. We stayed in the North Tower the room was quiet, spacious, and very clean. Liked having a safe in the room to keep plane tickets, travelers checks, ect,. Slots were very tight at least for us. The slot attendants were extremely slow. A few of the wait staff on the casion floor rude and unfriendly, and few and far between so I ended up paying for drinks at the bar more than a few times. Since we were such good losers the casino did comp us meals to the buffet so we didn't have to spend any money to eat. The buffet was wonderful, nice variety. But if you are going for dinner I would suggest going around 5 pm or you will have to wait in a very long line. Spirit of the Dance was excellent and a must see if you are staying downtown. Other than gambling there is not alot to do, especially during the day since the pool was closed, going from casino to casino was convenient and the fremont street light show was amazing. Overall the staff was friendly and hotel very nice but we will stay on the strip our next visit since there is alot more to do and see.

I am afraid that I cannot agree to all these enthusiastic reviews about Golden Nugget. We stayed there as a couple for two nights because we had booked in advance, but soon regretted the fact; being used to simple but warm and comfortable lodging, we felt totally out of place in this noble, expensive, but - sorry to say so - totally boring hotel. The fact that we had booked a non-smoking room that turned out not to be available when we arrived, and that we were forced to spend two nights inhaling cold smoke without getting at least some kind of compensation, added to our frustration. Shold we ever come to Vegas again (which I sincerely hope), we will choose something less luxurious but more comfortable. But this is only my humble opinion, and others are free to share it or not :-) .
Golden Nugget is a great hotel!

I just returned from a 3 night stay at the Golden Nugget, and I have nothing but praise for this hotel. The service was fast and friendly, and our room was superb. We had a room with two beds in the South Tower which was very well-appointed and our floor was so quiet and restful after spending hours in the casino and lounge. Check in and check out was a breeze. The group Destiny that plays in The Lounge in the hotel is a must see. They are so talented and a treat to watch. There's a small dance floor that was crowded with couples eager to dance to the great music, which included songs by Lou Rawls, Santana, and a bit of reggae, just to mention a few. The casino is a lively place, and we had great luck. My traveling companion won $667 in the Golden Nugget casino playing the $1 slots. I won just over $200! We didn't get a chance to try the buffet because the line for the breakfast buffet was too long and we didn't want to wait that long to get in. We ate at the Garden Cafe twice, though, and the food and service were great. I would recommend this hotel if you want to stay in the downtown area of Las Vegas. It's a much different atmosphere downtown than on the strip, which was overly crowded and much more expensive. You get much more bang for your buck at the Golden Nugget. We attended one show on the strip called The Legends in the Imperial Palace hotel. I highly recommend the show. We enjoyed it thoroughly. I was also recommend you not go to the Outlet Mall located near downtown. It's a waste of time. I only have one complaint about the Golden Nugget, and that is that the pool hours are from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. If you want to swim early or late, you're out of luck. But it is a small but nice pool with lots of lounge chairs for sun bathing and you can rent a private cabana that has a small refrigerator. All in all, the Golden Nugget get an A+++ in my book and would definitely recommend it to anyone who has never stayed in downtown Las Vegas. My friend, who had always stayed on the strip, thoroughly enjoyed her stay at the Nugget and said she would definitely stay there again. Try it, you'll love it.

I love the GN. I have stayed here many times and in 2 weeks I will return. I have medical conditions now so I hope that they can give me a room close to the elevators and the casino. I CAN'T WAIT
Just Great

This is a great hotel in the downtown area. It's beautiful. It has excellent restaurants. Seems like I actually win something there, sometimes.
Pretty good but stay away from the Buffet!

Visited Vegas a couple of weeks ago and was impressed by the hotel. Contrary to other posts here I found the registration clerk we dealt with to be very polite and accomodating. Our flight had been delayed from Buffalo so we arrived a day late to check in. We calle Expedia and they sent the hotel a fax but the staff misread it and had us checking out a day early! After some confusion it was sorted out without any problem. The room was wonderful but the toliet got clogged up and began to overflow! Housekeeping and maintanence staff were a little slow to get up to our room but when they came they were very apologetic and nice. I tried to offer the guy who sucked out all the water and cleaned up the mess a tip but he wouldn't accept it. Problems? The girl at the box office desk did not know what she was talking about. She couldn't give us any info. on any other shows at any hotel and kept throwing the "Spirit of the Dance" in our faces. When we asked her how long it takes to get to the strip on the bus she said over an hour. It takes an hour if your going right down to the tip of the strip but it only took us 15 to 20 minutes to get to most hotels on the strip. She clearly had no idea what she was talking about! The Buffet resteraunt inside the Casino is not worth it! There was always a long lineup and the selection was a joke. The food was good but not worth standing in line for over an hour. The staff at the restaurant were VERY rude and non-chalant (the ones we dealth with). They were snappy and unresponsive (we are not white so that could have played a role). DO NOT EAT AT THE BUFFET restaruarant. There were other buffets at other hotels that were vastly superior and had excellent service.
Great Hotel and Staff.

having read all the reviews sent to me from the Trip Advisor I finally decided to go to the Golden Nugget Hotel on Freemont St.My first impression was that everything that I had read about it was true. The Hotel was very clean and the staff were helpfull in every way. The rooms were of a good size and the decor was first class.I took my two granddaughters with me. They absolutely loved it, and even when they had been to all the hotels on the strip they said that they preferred the Golden Nugget.I was undecided when I was booking it whether to go to Circus Circus or the Golden Nugget. It was after reading your reports that I decided on the latter.Your information was very helpfullJ. mansfield.
Wonderful experience

My husband and I stayed at The Nugget for our honeymoon while in Vegas. The hotel was absolutely wonderful as well as the staff. The restaurant and buffet at the hotel was heavenly. ( You must try the bread pudding). I can't say enough about this hotel except that we will definately stay there again. There is nothing wrong with the downtown area. We actually preferred it to the strip.
What a pleasant surprise!

What a nuggest this one is. Tucked in the middle of downtown, the price is right. Service is very good. In good weather, the pool is simple but pleasant. You can actually moved around this place very well. But here is the best part of it all. When you check in, you're not in line for an hour. They were well-prepared, handled some special requests with ease and did a terrific job. The Strip is fine but not for everybody. This place knows its business and what you are there for. Job well done -- and I'll be back!
Good hotel

A very nice hotel. It is what you would expect from the reviews and cost, and we enjoyed our stay here. Only negative I guess is that its not on the strip, but if you have a car, thats really not an issue. They also have 10 dollar minimum black jack tables, 5 dollars during the day. We would recommend this hotel.

Las Vegas itself is fabulous. The Golden Nugget is a lovely hotel with a fabulous swimming pool with a shark pool within! However we had a problem with a £2,500 overcharge on our credit card from the hotel which took more than 3 days to sort out. Don't miss the helicopter... more
