Arlberg Hotel

We were excited about staying at Hotel Arlberg based on reviews and their website. The reality, though, was a bit different. This may be an issue of expectations, but given the large amount of international travel we do for business we expected better service and better food. The price includes half-board (their "minimum offer"), which is breakfast and dinner. The timing and quality of these, however, is poor. When we vacation we do not want to be on someone else's timetable. Breakfast ended at 10:30, which was just about when we would be ready to greet the day. Not sure that it really mattered, though, as the one time I made it to breakfast I found the food (and coffee!) to be wanting - to the point of getting sick. We had the dinner the first night and were so disappointed that we asked for a refund on future dinners (4 more nights). They then comp'd us 20 Euros per night. That's a clear indication of the quality of the food as we would regularly spend 100+ Euros for a decent dinner. We don't understand why one would want to go on such a great vacation and eat in the same hotel every night anyway. Plus, dinner is served only form 7 to 8:30 - again, why tie to a timetable that doesn't suit being on vacation? What's preferable is that the room have a coffee maker (as with just about every hotel we've ever stayed in on business) and that the room price not include meals. Another issue is that the web site stated that the room (a junior apartment or some such thing) has internet access. They fail to state that the internet access is an extra 15 Euros for 1 day. On checkout day we got a knock on the door at 11AM telling us that checkout is 10:30 and that we had to leave immediately. There was absolutely no indication anywhere in the room that checkout is 10:30. We were treated very rudely for having stayed there for 5 nights in one of the higher end rooms. Hotel Post and the Best Western looked like better deals as they are in the heart of town (the pedestrian district) and right by the incredible Galzig gondola -easy access to/from the slopes. PS. The skiing was fantastic - especially the top 2/3s of elevation - and we would not hesitate to go back to St. Anton as the town is wonderful as well.
