My partner and I have just returned from 2 weeks at this hotel.Having read the reports on this site we were more than apprehensive.However, we were absolutely delighted when we got there and found we had been upgraded to a suite on the 10th floor.The room was serviced twice daily and having daily pool towels was excellent,our bed linen was changed every other day.Stunning sunsets and the view across the aegean was superb.The staff almost without exception were friendly and very helpful.The dining room was as you would expect in a large hotel like this but the Maitre d got to know our favourite table and it was always waiting for us with our wonderful waiter and view across to Turkey.There was a conference in the hotel with 200+ delegates but this did not impinge on holiday at all.In fact the management team went out of their way to ensure we encountered no problems.As far as the food was concerned there was so much choice both for breakfast and dinner ,if you didnt want the main course you could stick to the buffet which was always well presented and food replenished regularly.After 2 weeks it did get boring but the menu changed daily.The one downside was the price of drinks but as a fellow guest pointed out they were London prices . Would we go back? You bet.
Beautiful and Friendly honeymoon hotel

I have just got back from an absolutely wonderful honeymoon at the Rodian Amathus. I was a bit worried after the mixed reviews on tripadvisor but it was an outstanding hotel. My husband and I - (hee hee, that still sounds funny) had paid extra for a seaview and family room. You must pay extra for the seaview or else you are unlikely to be lucky enough to get a room with sea facing balcony. We also paid for the family suite which meant 2 bathrooms and extra space. Well worth it. Maid service was daily with extra touches like having chocolates left on your pillow at night and having clean beach towels every day. The hotel itself had loads on - including themed nights in the Varkarola Taverna. We went on a non-theme night as I am vegetarian and the themed nights are 6 course set menu's. It was amazing - so romantic and the food and service made the night really memorable. You pay extra for this but its worth the treat. We also had spa treatments - which were wonderful and left us feeling very chilled out. The half board worked really well for us and although the evening meals were great we ended up using the lunch option of 10euro voucher in the pool bar and went out for the evening. We loved the Italian in Ixia called Napoli - Its soo busy that you may have a little wait but the Napoli pancakes are well worth it. We would also recommend a great fry up at Fat Man Slims in Ixia too. Rhodes town is fab and is an absolute must. As I met my husband in Falaraki in 2000 - we just had to go back and it was great fun. The media have really over played the loutish behaviour. We found all the bars friendly and it was great for people watching. Q club is still as cheesy but well worth a visit for a fun night out. We went with Manos and did the Knights of the Night tour which we wouldn't recommned as it was overpriced and the four seasons restuarant we were taken too for the meal was dirty and the food wasn't up too much. However the Jeep safari was great and we loved it - Great way to see the Island. So I could go and on but in conclusion - This hotel is great. Its not quite a 5* English standards but its pretty close. You will be staying a luxurious hotel without any of the airs and graces you may find over here. The staff were always helpful and well informed about the Island and general info you may need.

Overall, it was a good holiday but one major issue. PLEASE ensure that you book a room with a sea view. If your room doesn't face the front or is at least on the 5th floor or above, you won't have a view at all or a balcony worth having. Our room on the 3rd floor (307) was at the rear of the hotel, with no sunlight as it faced the bottom of the steep mountain behind. The mountain was literally 3 metres from our balcony and we could only see the sky by craning our necks and squinting up. We grumbled at reception, the staff were very courteous and efficient. They offered another room, again on the 3rd floor which we refused as the balcony was over the trades entrance at the side of the hotel and the air smelled of bleach. We were fairly depressed now. After more grumbling the next day we were upgraded to a Bungalow on the 11th floor by the pool. This absolutely made our holiday! And I can't believe even now how much having a badly located room/balcony can affect the atmosphere of your entire holiday. So please only book a sea view room or a room high up. We will always remember this. Food - was ok. Fairly standard stuff, nothing exciting but always well cooked and well presented. Extremely pricey drinks. Service - restaurant and bar staff were super friendly and efficient. Very polite and nice smiley greetings generally. Pools - we loitered by the roof top pool as it was quieter and less windy than the ground floor pools which were a stones throw from the very busy Ixia Road. Accommodation - room/bungalow was very clean, modern and well supplied. Location - no real "resort life" and we didn't enjoy being on the very busy road. Very very windy all days. Beach - shingle but clean and quiet'ish (again, backs onto main Ixia Road and reached by underpass from the hotel). Entertainment - better to make your own really. Helped immensely that the world cup was on! Holidaymakers - couples, young families, oldies. In short, if you stay at this hotel, it's ONLY worth staying if you have a sea view, a room high up or, even better, a bungalow!! Fantastic views across Ixia Bay from the restaurant and bar - especially at sunset. Good holiday, saved only by room change. Probably won't be back though.
A Greek Tragedy

Just come back from 10 days 19-30 July 2006 at this hotel and I can concur with the last review it is NOT a 5 star hotel more like a 4 - 3 star. We had a suite on the 7th floor with sea view and we also did not get proper cleaning services, and the bed turn down service is a joke only twice in 10 days did it happen. Food was repetitive and boring and we had to complain twice about the poor main meal served which was inedible, when we complained we where told it was our taste that was the problem not the under/overcooked food lots of complaints about the food from other guests as well. Breakfast was good plenty of everything but no variation. The entertainment program is a disgrace club style would be best describe it, still we had a laugh! Our biggest complaints, the cleanliness generally which is poor, pool areas grubby, room not hovered once in 10 days just tidied and we also had to ask for the balcony to be cleaned of bird droppings. Pool sunbed mattresses are dirty, and non existent on the stretch of gravel which is described as the beach. We have been to other 5 star hotels in Greece and had much better service than this hotel provided. It is just a tired worn out hotel which needs a make over badly to the rooms and pool areas. For car hire try Paylees Hire 121 euros for 4 days including all insurance, hotel was nearly twice the price. Drinks are very expensive we spotted one bottle of wine with an 800% mark-up! Could go on but you get the picture> We will not be going back.

We stopped at the Rodian Amathus between 26th Jul and 2nd Aug. We're a two-parent, two-children (11 and 8) family looking for something a bit more up-market than we'd previously found in 3* hotels in Greece or the Spanish Islands. I disagree with those who found the hotel food poor - yes, there was a choice of only 3 meals from the main menu but supplementing that was an all-you-can-eat buffet with plenty on offer. We ate fantastically well during our stay. We didn't however, eat or drink at the hotel (apart from the half-board evening meal) as that proved very expensive (27 euros for two coffees, 2 fantas and 2 ham baguettes) - you're much better off walking the 5 minutes into town where you'll pay half that price. The view from the 10th floor evening meal area is the best I've ever encountered - a wonderful panoramic view of the sea and silhoutted Turkish mountains in the background. The hotel swiming pools (there are 3 outdoor and 1 indoor) were well maintained and not too occupied by children/youths, although their numbers are bound to increase over the Summer holidays. Furthermore, we managed to find 4 unoccupied sunbeds without problem at 11am each morning - bliss. And the hotel provide you with beach/pool towels. Its true there's little or no sand at the beach (2 min walk), but the grassed area for sun-bathing was fine with us - no getting sand off you when you've just applied suncream or wiping it off the bottle of water you're drinking!! And the sea water is beautiful - my kids and I swam around happily throughout the holiday with no fuss. They didn't seem to mind the fact they couldn't build any sand-castles.... The hotel staff were very friendly with us - we stayed in a Junior suite and were very happy with the level of service and quality of the room. Leaving chocolates on our pillow each night, a bottle of wine + fruit on arrival and ouzo on departure were nice touches. We didn't encounter any snobiness whatsoever. Ixia itself wasn't great, with Eddy's and Fatman Slim's bars the best choices, but its a short taxi-trip (6 - 8 euros and 10 mins) into Rhodes Town if you like it more lively and cosmopolitan. We travelled in 4 times and enjoyed each occasion. Ixia is also a short-trip to the airport. Be aware that Ixia doesn't hold much entertainment for teenagers - there are no real clubs and you're limited to a handful of pool tables - for nightlife they would need to go into Rodes Town. We were really sad to be leaving the Rodian Amathus and will actively look at their hotels in Cyprus next year - we're not going back to Rhodes because there are too many places in the world to see!! I would recommend the Rodian to anyone wishing to break the monotony of hum-drum hotels elsewhere on the Med. Along with the Miramare Wonderland its locally known as the best hotel in Ixia.
Masqerading as a Five Star - Wouldn't return

We just got back from the Rodian Amathus Beach Hotel in Ixia and this is NOT a five star resort, its more a three star. Calling it a beach hotel it also blatantly untrue as the beach is more of a gravel path thats by the side of the sea. On half board, the food in the main restaurant was bland and covered in sauces and the choice is limited. There is an A la Carte restaurant but this isn't fantastic and the prices are high, your best to go B an B, and eat in the resort restaurants and a lovelyt chinese or get a taxi to Rhodes old town( 7 euros). Room service is also exhorbitant and the funny thing is that a bottle of sparkling wine in the hotel shop is approximately 30 euro cheaper than for the same bottle in the restaurant. Also the drink prices in the bars are way over the top, even dearer than five star hotels in Ireland. There are 2 pool areas, one on the 11th floor which was ok but can get very busy, the second is on the ground floor which although quieter, is noisy because of the main road which is 50m away. However, the indoor pool is lovely and the sauna and steam rooms are excellently maintained. Another bad point though is that the pools have no lifeguards either. As regards room we had it was a nice but it could have done with a new carpet. There was a great seaview. However, was a very dated room with old decor and in need of renovation. Another poor point was the housekeeping staff. One actually came in to put cholcolates on our pillow and re-make the bed but on meeting us on the way out she pulled the slightly melted chocolate chocolates out of her pocket and handed them to me before heading off. Uurgh! Otherwise the restaurant staff are very nice and helpful but we stayed for two weeks and couldn't face eating there for the last week as there was one particular man who continually welcomed my wife by running her hand down the back of whatever dress she was wearing and even asked her at one stage if she was wearing any underwear. A bit too friendly you might say!!! My wife didn't like it and we decided to eat out in restaurants in the rsort after that even though we had paid half board. The resort itself is okay with normal tourist stuff, the best bar there is "Eddys Bar" a small bar run by a dutch couple, relaxing and cheap compared to hotel prices and there is a great breakfast there. But if I was going back to Rhodes again i would steer clear of this hotel because of the exhorbitant prices and the fact it masquerades as a five star hotel.

My girlfriend and I booked a late deal to go from Cardiff mid July. On returning home from the travel agents a quick check on trip advisor revealed mixed reports. I can honestly say the hotel and facilities were excellent.There is a lovely rooftop pool but we tended to use the bottom pool which had a nice breeze and a lovely poolbar. The beach across the road provides free loungers to guests but is a bit pebbly and entering the water with style proved diffucult. Try to get a front facing room when you check in/book. Our side facing room whilst functional and very nice gave us a partial hillside/beach view. On the front is where you want to be to catch the absolutely stunning sunsets if you're not watching them from the 10th floor restaurant balcony that is! Both the Illiades(10th floor) and Varcarola(bottom pool) serve a la carte meals but as we were half board we stuck with the buffet at Illiades and I have to say it was superb. Car hire is a bit juicy from the hotel mind, 77 euro's per day! Try Galaxy car hire next door where it'll get you 2 days. Happy hols!

Just arrived home from a two week holiday at the Rodian and have been dissapointed to read some less than favourable reviews for this hotel and surrounding area. We have stayed in 5 star hotels in both this country and elsewhere in North America - what has to be borne in mind that this is Greece! If you want the same 5 star treatment that other countries offer - then go there, and not Greece! We have been to Greece several times and know what to expect, the Rodian was exactly what we expected - a higher level of service and hotel ammenities that most Greek hotels. The staff were very friendly and helpful at all times, the food was plentiful, (we stayed half-board), and extremely good. Our room was well appointed and serviced twice each day, we overlooked the forest and countryside at the rear of the hotel and had no complaint regarding the view from the balcony. Whilst the resort area (Ixia), does not lend itself to child activities it is well suited for couples. Rhodes town is a short bus/taxi ride away (bus fare 1.70 euros), and is well worth several visits - too much to admire in one day. A worthwhile excursion whilst in Rhodes is the tourist train - 3 euros for a 45min journey round the city. The resort where the Rodian is situated is quite small, but has numerous good value restaurants and bars - our favourite and close to the Rodian was Eddys Pub, owned and run by a Dutch couple, really nice and relaxed atmosphere with good snack food and a well stocked bar - well worth a visit. Overall we were very satisfied with our choice of hotel and resort area - certainly worth a return visit.

My husband and I visited the Rhodian Amathus for our wedding anniversary. On arrival we we informed that we had been upgraded to one of the bungalows in the gardens on the 11th floor and we had a fruit basket and a small bottle of wine waiting for us. The views from the rooms were amazing, not only did we have a garden view but past that we also had a sea view! The bungalows themselves are very spacious with a balcony three times the size of normal hotels. My complaint is with the cleanliness. Our balcony had animal droppings which were not removed for the duration of our stay, the bathroom had been 'patched up' and really needed an overhaul. Also beware of the cleaners! even if you have put do not disturb on your door, they will still come in without even knocking first!! My husband and I were caught out a couple of times by them! The hotel itself (public areas) were very tastefully decorated and furnished. We especially liked the view from the 11th floor bar area and in the afternoon we'd site under the gazebo by the waterfall on the ground floor and watch the dragonflies. Also, loved the tea pot warmer with your pot of tea! You also, tend to get the marketing/customer relations people coming round at dinner and to your rooms pushing the lobster evening etc for about another 40 euro's each. All in all, the hotel was good, the rooms spacious but needed refurbishing. The hotel seemed to be more of a business hotel, we had 3 private events on during our stay. Ixia is a very quite resort which we loved, not many shops until you get into Rhodes Town. I would not visit the hotel again as I did not think that it was value for money and as with most 4 and 5* hotels drinks were very expensive. We travelled with Libra holidays, I would definitely not recommend them. They gave out the wrong bus numbers at the airport, didn't know where the buses were going and had to ask the drivers. We did'nt see our rep smile once and seemed anxious to get away. They didn't even supply us with a resort map in our welcome pack (which was 3 years old!)
