Rooms were nice and clean. Excellent location if you can ski as lifts are 2 minutes walk away. If you are a beginner you need to get up to Plan Maison for ski lessons. The gondola is a 20 minute walk away and there are lots of steps making it difficult.
Our main gripe about this holiday was the food at the hotel. The half board menu offered rabbit, horse steak, goat stew and tripe. After 2 nights of suffering we complained and were allowed to eat from the downstairs restaurant 'carte' menu. However we were only allowed to eat the cheaper options (pasta or pizza) although this was 1000 times better than the alternative. Also there was no salad bar as indicated in the brochure and Christmas Dinner was no different to any of the other meals we'd had. I just hope that Thomson's sort it out for future guests.

We stayed here on 13th Jan 2008 for a week. Excellent location, only 2 minute walk to chair lift. Ski lesson meeting place is at Plan Maison, however, this chair lift leads to another chair lift and at top of this you can then ski down to Plan Maison. It is a much better option than the 20 minute walk to the Gondola and all the steps up to the Gondola.
The hotel rooms were excellent, very spacious for a ski resort, well decorated and cleaned to a high standard every day.
The big problem with the hotel is the food and the staff in the restaurant. Breakfast does not provide much choice. Some cereal, bread cheese and ham, eggs if you are lucky. They provide one basket of croissants only, once gone thats it, so if you did not time it right you missed out. Same with the orange juice, once gone that was it they were unable to get anymore!
Evening meal was quite different, chose this as brochure stated that it was a menu service rather than a buffet. However, you got two choices of starter and two choices of main meal and every night bar one one choice of dessert. The main meals did provide some unusual choices like horse steak but main meal was usually served with just heaps of lettuce. The service was poor as staff could not be understood and did not speak much English, we were always waiting for drinks and other extras we ever asked for.
The reception for the hotel is over the road at the sister hotel, Punta Maguinaz, only the rep failed to tell us this so checking in was quite difficult as we were walking on every floor at the Grivola before asking another guest. The staff on the reception were very friendly and helpful.
The holiday overall was excellent. Cervinia is a great skiing resort and access into Switzerland makes it more attractive. I will definately return to Cervinia, however, I would have to give the Grivola a miss because of the restaurant food and staff, the B&B option may be a better option.
