Just returned home from staying at The Sheraton for 11 nights with husband and daughter (age 8) and was left feeling disappointed with overall holiday, especially given the price of it. Whilst the hotel has many plus points; great food, lovely pools, good levels of service... more

My wife and I have just returned from a 14 day stay and my overall feeling on reflection is that it "wasn’t bad" - but I would not return. The Public Rooms are huge and not particularly user friendly, our room (Junior Exec.De Lux SV) was clean and spacious, but it had a... more

Loved it!
Bucharest, Romania We just got back from Ixia, Rhodes. We stayed at Hilton Rhodes and we really enjoyed it. The room (sea view it's a must!) was large, airy and nice with a generous balcony. Nevertheless, it still needs some refurbishment, as the rug and furniture are overused, but it was clean. The staff was great, always ready to help or advise. Food was good but not great, breakfast especially was not too varied, and for dinner water and soft drinks were not included (for HB)!!! Don't miss the pool on the 6th floor, it's nice and quiet, or enjoy the pools on the 1st floor if you want to join the animation team and keep your children entertained. Of course, don't forget the sea, although there is no sand but rocks. Visit the old Town which is fantastic (taxi for just 6 Euro), the Simi Island, town of Lindos, Valley of the Butterflies, and so forth. You can blend visiting with relaxing and get a perfect time. We had a great vacation there and we'll always consider it again. I strongly recommend it.
Honeymoon Nightmare !
Arrived for our Honeymoon early evening, having booked a room with a sea view we were given a room that looked at........a hedge !! We went straight back to reception and were told that they had no rooms left and would we wait til the morning, we agreed just for the one night ! The next morning after an average breakfast and a fight for the bacon, we went to the reception and was shown a room with another view........a concrete pillar ! With this being our honeymoon my wife got very upset, back at the reception they said wait in our room until they called to issue another, having sat in our room til 1pm i rung reception and asked if we could go and look at the room regardless of its state, finally we got a room with a sea view, what we had paid for !! The Reception Manager said the online system says it has rooms available that are no longer available !! We were offered NOTHING for our upset and distress ! Whilst at reception 2 more different groups of people, as well as ourselves, were demanding to see the General Manager who was 'far too busy to come down' to ask why they to did not have a room with the views they had paid for ! Food was average - breakfast was a constant battle in the moring to get bacon, omlettes etc As another member has said, 5* prices are not charged BUT this is certainly not a 5* hotel, therefore, the prices are in line with a 4* Staff were quite friendly and the pool was lovely to relax by and nice pool side food and drink ! All in all, to be honest, it ruined the start of our honeymoon but we made the best of it !
Great Hotel
Good hotel with good choice of buffet breakfast/dinner for those on halfboard. The hotel takes some dicovering particularly around the lifts which are split between floors 6/7. The pool and bar area are well thought out and the animation team make great effort in ensuring evryone is catered for during the evening entertainment. In the evening the poolside becomes a lillte heaven with beautiful lights that excude a feeling of being in the tropics sitting ona beach. Drinks in hotel are not cheap in keeping with a 4* rated hotel. Yes not quite a 5* as the brochures would have you believe. Though accomodation was good except for the dated and stained carpets. Staff are fabulous and particularly in the evening the service was great, whilst being entertained by the animation group. The beach is not at its best particulalrly as it is shingles and you need proper footwear to get from beach to water. Buy a pair of rubber shoes which will be found in many of the local shops. Rhodes town is excellent for shopping and suggest that you go to the old town area in the evening as it has a particular charm after dusk. The Hilton hotel was a was a great experience fo us and we thoroughly enjoyed a very relaxing stay. Enjoy!!!
overall good, but not great
We stayed for 1 week during August 2006. Because of my job that requires a lot of travel, I have seen a great number of 5 star and 4 star hotels and stayed several times in hotels bearing the Hilton name. Having said so, I believe that this is a hotel that was built as a Hilton long ago, but today it is in need for some serious renovation, especially with regards to the rooms. On the other hand, the public areas are very nice, kept in good condition and the staff is friendly and helpful When we arrived, having asked for a room with sea view, we were given a room on the 3rd floor. The room was spacious according to 5 star standards, but this (plus the view perhaps) was the only 5 star thing about it. The carpet was worn out, the bathroom not refreshed for decades, the furniture was looking too old and the worst of all, the noise from the air conditioning unit was unbearable. The surprise turned to anger when we realised that the noise was coming from the central air conditioning unit of the hotel, not the room unit. We complained and for 20 Euro more, next day we changed rooms to one on the 11th floor. There (and in the 5th floor) they have some "renovated" rooms. Well, just a new carpet, new safe and some minor "refreshments", but most important there was no a/c noise and the view was breathtaking. We enjoyed some of our most beautiful sunsets. Overall, I believe that the hotel needs renovation. It is not bad, but not what you expect from a 5 star Hilton, especially with regards to the rooms. Other than that, it is a good hotel, in a beautiful island, which you will definetely enjoy. So, I would recommend it, as long as you can negotiate a room from floor 5 and above (preferably floors 8-12, to make sure you avoid the noise from the hotel air conditioning which is unbearable on the first floors). The hotel lobby, reception and restaurants is on the 6th and 7 th floor, swimming pool on 1st and garage on the ground floor, which leaves floors 2-5 and 8-12 for guest rooms) and a good price. Breakfast and dinner was just okay, nothing special. Nice swimming pools, very good hotel for families with children. If you want nice beaches, you need to drive to the east side of the island, as the west side of it (where the hotel lies) is very windy (excellent for windsurfers), but not nice for swimming especially for children. You need a car to explore Rhodes. Don't just stay at the hotel, but go to the medieval city, visit the Knights Grand Master Palace, the butterflies valley, the 7 springs, the picturesque town of Lindos, as well as the beautiful beaches. For good food - ask where the locals go and avoid the tourist restaurants nearby the hotel.
Don't worry you'll love it
Like pretty much everyone else i was a bit concerned about the reviews i'd read of this hotel so i went with low expectations that were more than exceeded. The location: Ixia is a pretty small resort based along a main road. We weren't very impressed by it - there was only one good restaurant that we found, Le Gourment (fab) and the bars were fairly dire. Rhodes Town is better. The Hilton is a 4-star hotel, in no way is it a 5-star. But that's fine. As previous posts have noted a few things let it down e.g. stains on the carpets in the rooms, no pool attendants, busy and hectic seating at breakfast. However, the food was always good - and compared to other hotels, very reasonably priced. The pools are fabulous - we loved the 6th floor one for chilling out. The staff are helpful and friendly. I spent a week in this hotel in July. At this time it was busy but still relaxing. Always managed to get a sun lounger, even in the afternoon. It's a big hotel and it's not 100% perfect but it's still a great place to spend a week. We loved it. And this hotel hardly charges 5-star prices, we booked online with Hilton and paid just over 100 euros per night. This is not 5-star prices ... so you get what you pay for. If you are worried pay extra to upgrade your room - a friend of us did. This way you get a few of the extra touches - better bedding, robes and slippers etc. But at the end of the day, if you want a truly 5-star experience then you need to pay for it. All in all - highly recommend the Rhodes Hilton.
A very good hotel
I have recently returned from an excellent stay at the Hilton Rhodes. I agree with earlier reviews that it is not a 5* but a good 4*. I dont however agree with some of the bad reviews and wonder if it was the same hotel!! Room We booked a Junior Suite with a sea view (this is a must as the mountain views are literally looking at a sheer cliff behind the hotel). The room was large with a large balcony and a great view of the pool and the sea beyond. It was a little dated but spotlessly clean and no signs of any stains as described in ealier reviews (maybe the standard rooms are a poor standard). We were left nibbles and petit fours each day in our room which was a nice touch (and also a bottle of Ouzo - which remained unopened!!). Hotel The Hotel is very large and it was full when we stayed but the service did not seem to suffer (although breakfast was very busy at about 9am). There are 2 pools which are both excellent - the one on the 6th floor is quieter but you need to be there by 8.30am to get a sunbed. The main pool is excellent and no problems getting a sunbed (even though the hotel was full). The hotel is an unusual design and you either love it or hate it - its like coloured concrete lego. I actually liked it but its probably not to everyones tastes. The hotel and grounds are lit up beatifully at night and there is entertainment most nights. Its only 10 minutes walk into Ixia which has a few bars and restaurants and is a reasonably small but a good night out. Rhodes town is only 10 minutes (and 7 Euros) in a taxi. The beach is so-so but we spent most of our time round the pool. There are shops on the ground floor and water is a tenth of the price at the bars. Food There are 3 restaurants and the food is generally very good. The main restaurant serves buffet food and is where you eat if you are half board. Plenty of choice and quality was good. You can get a 10 Euro per person voucher if you are half board to use in the other resaturants or at lunch (some reviews whinge that 10 Euros is a bit stingy but as we only paid 10 Euros each for half board it seemed good to me!!). The Cafe de Paris restaurant is superb and although expensive for Greece it is still cheap by uk standards. The food was excellent and beautifully presented. Please note drinks in the hotel are generally expensive (even by uk standards) escpecially spirits. The poolside restaurant was also very good. Most days we swapped our evening meal for a lunch voucher and then went into Ixia or Rhodes Town for evening meal (I think its a bit sad to eat in the hotel every night when you are on holiday). Overall I would definitley recommend the Hilton Rhodes (and we have travelled extensively and stayed in many luxury hotels) but I would say you definitely need to book a sea view and would recommend the junior suites. As I said earlier it is not a 5* as it lacks those extra luxurious touches you expect with a 5* but it is still a very good 4* - just dont book a cheap room with a poor view!!!!
A good 4 star
Was not sure what to expect after reading some earlier reviews. My honest opinion is that this is not a 5 star, but at the same time is perfectly adequate. It misses the small "personal" touches of a 5 star, like staff to help with sun shades and iced towels handed out around the pool - maybe I'm being too fussy, but I've experienced this in other 5 stars and come to appreciate it. However the staff are efficient and friendly. As far as the rooms go, they are large and clean, but not very special, definitely 4 star and lacked character. Definitely request a seaview or you will be looking at a sheer cliff face, something we picked up from comments on this site and were extremely grateful for. Buffet breakfast, great and loads of choice, buffet evening meal a bit disappointing, but when are they not? The restaurant by the pool was very nice and the animation team are good, but not "In your face". My one main moan is that the sunbeds around the pool feel very squashed together and by our second week, when moving from beach to pool in the afternoon, we struggled to find spare beds. Word of warning if you are half board, if you don't want dinner you are offered 10 euros per person for lunch. Which is a bit of a con because if paying for the evening buffet meal it is 25 euros per head. To sum up, not the best hotel, but nothing seriously to complain about - you get what you pay for which is an efficiently run international hotel, but could have been in any country and lacked the "Greek" special something Ixia as a whole is nothing special (especially the beach) but a great base for visits into Rhodes Town - only 6 or 7 Euros in a taxi
Hilton - no thanks!
We stayed here for one night in July as a birthday treat after spending a week in another hotel nearer to Rhodes Centre. The hotel is like a mini town, built over a large complex with several different restaurants and shops on site. Across the road is a rocky beach with, unfortunately quite rough sea which is certainly not one of Rhodes' best beaches! Ixia itself where the hotel is situated is about six kilometres from Rhodes Centre and a taxi one way costs seven Euros, taxis to the airport cost twelve Euros. Our room was quite large with a big balcony, but overlooking a concrete wall. Our room had many univited guests in the form of friendly families of mosquitos, take care. Carpet was badly stained, but bathroom was nice with a big bath, sadly no free toiletries. There is a handy fridge in the room which is empty, a minimum of five bar items must be ordered should you want a tipple. The outdoor pool on floor six is gorgeous and it the perfect place to spend your afternoons sipping on an ouzo or two. This was so nice it made our stay worth it! Beware-you will have to pay extra for absolutely everything in the hotel from the gym to tennis courts. On departure we had a slight disagreement with reception staff who told us we owed them half a Euro (we didn't!) which seemed a little ungracious as the hotel had cost us a small fortune for the night! We enjoyed our stay at the Hilton due to our lazy afternooon by the pool, but it isn't the five star hotel it pretends to be, you may be able to spend your money more wisely elsewhere.
nice
The hotel is nice, the rooms are big and nice bathroom. The service was above average. But there are some thigs that should'n be in Hilton as a famous hotel: 1. There is notting in bathroom except soap. The soap was not replaced with new one ( for 3 days ) 2. There are no free drinks to drink in the dinning room (at dinner). For water you have to pay. 3. There are mosquitos in the room ( I didn't open any window) 4. If you want to exchange the dinner with lunch, you will get 10 $ discount for the meal - ridiculous. I took HB deal.
Luxe, trendy, comfort and convenience. Highly recommend
The hotel is very beautiful. The design and architectue are very beautiful. The room is luxe and very comfortable. But provide only liquid soap and nothing else. We stay at the higher section so we have to change the life to go to street level or lower outdoor pool. The staff are very helpful and polite. We love the other pool on the sixth floor as we don't have children and we need quiet place to relax. This is perfect. The price of the food is not overcharge but similar to good ones outside. We did not try the restuarant in the hotel as one of them is French and beside there plenty of good restaurants every where. We have dinner and lunch at different places every day. We are a bit annoyed that we have to pay extra for gym and suana. So we did not go to the the gym but sleep by the pool and eat instead. We went to walk on beach but it was too windy and it's rock beach not sand beach. The sea is impressive but very rough and so cold.
