Mareblue Cosmopolitan Hotel

Stayed for 5 nights starting Friday 13th June. Very pleased with a 5th floor seaview room, very clean, bed relatively new mattress, and again good.

Booked half board, breakfast good, dinner more that adequate, good emphasis on Greek Food, not to everyones likes, but why go to Greece, if you won't try the food.

Entertainment probably OK, did not bother me as I like to go out at night - recommend Rhodes Town, best bars in Ixia ten minutes walk. Hotel was probably half to two thirds full. Paid UK£ 223.00 for twin room through Olymoic Holidays, great value. Would recommend to most except for families with small kids.

As the hotel only just opened for two weeks when we arrived, the first 3 days the buffet was very limited During the week another 250 guests arrrived and the buffet selection doubled. We had booked half pension, and on our contract this included the house wine and mineral water with our evening meals. We were told to pay our drinks separately and that the hotel has never heard of demi pension including beverages. When we asked to see the hotel manager, we were told she was not available. We were later informed that we had to pay 12Euros a day extra to pay for an empty fridge in our room. This we refused to pay, and when speaking to the receptionist, we asked again to bring this matter up with the hotel manager and were informed that she was unavailable.. During the course of our one week stay, the hotel manager was never available, we ended up paying an extra EUR 98 for our evening beverages, but did not pay for the empty fridge ( which would have cost us an additonalEUR 144)

The hotel is old, there was no music at the pool and they were shortstaffed in the restaurant. In the mornings you had to wait half an hour for your first coffee, out of frustion, we took our morning coffee elsewhere. For two days there was a problem with the plumbing and we could not shower for two days, when we asked to see the manager, ( guess what) she was unavailable.

I was worried after reading some comments on here about the cosmopolitan but these worries were completing removed on arrival, here is my honest account of our stay:

The hotel was welcoming even at 5am when we arrived. The rooms were basic but clean with fresh bedding and towels every day. Air conditioning worked well at all times of the day. The safe only cost 12 euros for the week, well worth it.

The food was hot and the variety was fantastic. From spaghetti bolognaise to steak, chicken, duck, veil, beef, all varieties of cold plates, ham, cheese, every bread and every desert you can think of! Even my fussy fiance enjoyed it and we have stayed half board on other holidays and he could only eat the chips! The waiters were fun and gave great service too.

If you want a resort where there are predominantly british holiday makers then this hotel would not suit you. There were people from various countries and the staff were great and spoke in every language possible, german, french, dutch, english and greek.

The pool bar staff and entertainment crew were fun and got the crowd going. The pool was lovely to swim in and always clean, although sunloungers were a little outdated

The games room had some arcade games, pool and table tennis tables, bit basic but as you are so close to rhodes town (5 euros in a taxi) we found there were plenty of activities outside of the hotel to do so didnt need a full entertainment programme

Overall a great place to stay. If you think you are going to stay at a 4* hotel in british standards then you are setting yourselves up for a fall. Its a lovely hotel, a little dated in the decor but the staff, food and drinks were to a very, very high standard which is what makes a holiday after all! I would go back again

Me and my partner and son have just got back from ixia and had a fantastic holiday at the hotel cosmopolitan.I cannot understand all the bad write ups the food was plenty sevice by the waiters and waitresses was fantastic they could not help you enough.The rooms were loverly and clean and very peaceful at night.Plenty of sun everybody made you welcome only fault was the beach rather gritty and not really the place for teenagers very relaxing.

I have stayed at the Cosmopolitan four times in two years; twice in July, once in October and once in May. Each time I have found the staff courteous and helpful; the food varied and the rooms comfortable. The renovation of the annexe was due to be completed in the week following my stay, so presumably some of the adverse comments on the rooms there would no longer apply -it will be interesting to the comments when people have stayed in the new rooms. The bungalows or the main building are the rooms the stay in in my opinion.

In May and October the temperatures are hot enough for my taste, and there is no shortage of sun beds around the pool. It can sometimes be windy, but generally I got out and about on those days.

There are bars and restaurants just outside the hotel, and the beach is a hundred yards away. Rhodes town is within walking distance, and there is a taxi rank across from the hotel for those who want to take the easy route.

In the season the evening entertainment is pool side, so it may be that anyone wanting to go to bed before 11 might have a problem- though I have never found it particularly noisy. The 10.00am poolside "reveille" by the Animation time startles though!

I have no hesitation in recommending the hotel.

Prior to arriving at the Cosmopolitan we were a little concerned about what we would find after reading some of the reviews on Trip advisor. I am pleased to say that we did not experience any of the problems mentioned.

We arrived at the hotel during the first week of May (early in the season) and we stayed in room 615 overlooking the sea and hotel pool. The room itself was spacious, clean, neat and tidy with tiled floors as was the bathroom and didn't appear dated. A fridge was also supplied. Towels were changed daily and linen regularly. For the first couple of days we were expecting something to go wrong because of the reviews but thankfully our fears were ungrounded. The hotel was only a third full when we arrived but towards the end of the week it was slowly becoming fuller. However the catering acted accordingly and a greater selection of food was provided for the growing number of guests at meal times. Salads, meats, fish etc. and lovely puds!! Spiros and his team worked very hard in the dining-room and was pleasant and very friendly all of the time despite the constant stream of guests arriving over a 2 1/2 hour period. The receptionist was very helpful with any information required. Ixia is a little windy at times yet sunny (temperatures for the time of year in the low to mid 20's C) which meant that we didn't spend every day by the pool as we were out walking visiting all the sights but when we did there were ample sun-loungers. A couple of the days we ate lunch at the poolside bar and again the food was well prepared and served by the staff. Entertainment in the evening didn't begin until a couple of days before we left but as we didn't go to listen we are not sure just how well it went! The local bus service passes the end of the hotel drive and was cheap and regular although it was a pleasant 40 minute walk by the sea into Rhodes Town. (A must to visit!). We also visited Lindos by local buses and made our own arrangements to visit Marmaris,Turkey for the day as the harbour is also in Rhodes Town. We prefer not to go on holiday in the busiest times so this holiday suited us perfectly. We would consider this hotel again at the same time of the year.

We stayed in the Cosmopolitan in 2004.

Not quite what we expected. The Hotel accomodation has got to be the worst i've ever stayed in. We are a family of 4 who were given one room with two single beds. one bed based on concrete and the other a pull out metal one which was only really suitable for a toddler. What an insult after paying over £2,600.

We were originally given a dump for the first night. In fact it was that bad we did not unpack. The metal bed had grafitti on it. The fridge leaked water on the floor. The room stank of stale cigarettes which was unbearable. I felt like crying. The following morning we were given a bungalow room which is what we'd originally booked. The room was dated but had gardens to the front and rear which made up for the interior.

The restaurant was always busy but we did not realise until later in the holiday that there was two sittings only.

The hotel reception area was very poor. We requested table tennis bats which were falling to bits. What an insult. The bats needed placing in the bin. The bar area was very old.

The pool area was not too bad but not enough sunbeds.

The food was good but the restaurant was overcrowded.

The waiters worked hard. Why not employ 3/4 more to ease the situation.

The area of Ixia itself is not nice. The sea front is very windy and the beach very dirty. The bars are quite empty and lacking in entertainment. You can walk into Rhodes town on the coast which is nice if you feel like a walk ,otherwise take a taxi ride which is about 5 minutes. we had a great holiday having met a few other families with teenagers. We visited the Farmhouse Pub next door to the hotel. TG and Errol his son own the pub and challenge everyone to a game of pool. Lovely family.

I would only visit Ixia again to visit TG and Errol and for no other reason.

We booked at the last minute, just a few days beforehand. I had read the reviews and was surprised that the hotel wasn't as bad as some of the things written about it. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. The meals were good, to cater for multicultural guests must be trying, you can't please everyone. The hotel was well kept I could not fault it's cleanliness. We had a superior room in the main hotel which was very nice.

The guys in the Pool bar Gregory and Yiannis and two others were brilliant. I could not fault their efficiency. Vasilos looked after us in the Dining room. He was an Excellent waiter nothing was ever too much trouble. I can't really say much that is negative about The Cosmopolitan only that the pool is absolutely freezing. And the pool Bar toilets are quite smelly and badly situated. Apart from that we had a lovely holiday. I would most certainly recommend this hotel to others. Because if they received the same service we got they can't go wrong.

Booked through 1st choice for partners 60th birthday.Adervertised as 4 star,deffinetly not! Allthough we paid full price for season,no mention was made that we would be in annex in gardens.Room facing main road(50 yards)very basic and horrendously noisy all night,room cramped and dated! Air con not working,electrical sockets hanging out of wall.Only one socket working.Mould in bathroom.Food never better than luke warm,chips for breakfast!Seemed to cater for germans,dutch etc with cheese cold meats pickles not much choice otherwise.We and several other guests mostly ate at the Olympus Taverna on the strip where the food was hot plentiful and good value.Pool surround,i.e.grassed areas area contaminated by dog mess ,not nice,not cleaned up during 14 day stay, Reception staff off hand,1st choice rep had lots of platitudes but no action, Plus points.Linen changed daily close to Rhodes,allways a breeze Cleaning staff in annex pleasant and helpfull,Spiros in resturant always charming,even stopping on way home and offering lift to guests.Want to keep your room on because of an early morning flight,no problem but it will set you back 60 euros up till 2200hrs for which you get your towels changed.Will we use this hotel again? that is a definite no!!

Needed a relaxing break - what a disappointment -very basic room -appalling food - awful noise every night from pool bar ( could not hear tv in room or have an early night) -broken sunbeds - worst of all -DOG'S MESS on the grassy areas around the pool.

Definitely not 4*.

Unappetising food poorly diplayed -main meals never hot -tepid soup -spaghetti bolognese 10 days out of 14!! How much was leftover from day before?

Save cost on daily clean bedding & spend on decent food.
