Well maintained hotel that offers comfy beds with air conditioning that you control 24/7. Breakfast was very poor, just begal and cream cheese or toast or cereals with juice or tea/coffee. They did offer eggs and bacon at extra cost but for the same money we ate at Ponerosa... more

This place is dirty and smelly, on our first day my partner ended up in tears because of the smell. We check out the following day and stop at the Holiday Inn just down the road and that was great. None of the other virgin parties staying there were happy with their rooms... more

VERY BASIC HOTEL, NOT RECOMMENDED. Location of this hotel wasn’t very good as we didn’t hire a car and it wasn’t situated on International Drive itself, it was round the corner from Wet and Wild and we found the walking very tiring (having walked all day round the... more

We went to Orlando for the first time in 2004 and it was so amazing we went back again this year. We stayed both times at the Howard Johnson plaza, which is only a 10-minute walk away from Universal Studios. The hotel was one of the cheaper ones but it was very clean with... more

Terrible place! The room did not feel clean, the furniture was falling apart, the air conditioning unit made so much noise you had to put it off at night. The shower was OK, but the paint was peeling off and the skirting board was rotten around the window with creepy... more

Disappointing Hotel with Poor Customer Service
We were very disappointed with this hotel. The entire hotel was warm during a hot month. Our room had a huge wet spot on the carpet near the air conditioner, which we noticed after placing our bags on it and getting them soaked. We had some other problems with our stay and, when we addressed the manager about these problems, he refused to communicate appropriately with us about our concerns, avoiding our calls and not returning the phone messages we left. Problems arose that could have easily been prevented upon check-in to the hotel, but we were charged unfairly for these problems. While this hotel is cheaply priced and close to the convention center, we will never, ever stay here again.
Dont be put off be bad reviews
I stayed at this hotel for 10 night s with my boyfriend whilst on holiday. Having read the reviews previous I was apprehensive about the accommodation. However was very surprised. Most likely the costs for staying will not have broke the bank so dont be ridiculous and expect the Ritz. The big plus with the hotel is the location, ideally situated for conference centre but also tourist attractions. We found it a nice quiet spot also. Nearby there is a good supermarket (with ATM) McDonalds, Dennys, IHOP and Red Lobster. It is very close to I Trolley and Lynx bus stops which make it very easy to get around. It cost us $35 from international airport. Our room was clean and well equipped. It had a large TV with a good selection of channels, big bed and sofa. The air con was noisy but effective (better something than nothing!) The pool and communal areas were clean. The hotel is a little dated in terms of decor, but seems clean and well maintained. There is a 'resort fee' of $2.50/room/day - this covers your breakfast (continental - inc juice/coffee, cereal, bread, muffin and fruit), use of a safe in room, internet access and printing, fitness room (very basic) and shuttles to the park. The shuttles were very useful, and always ran on time for us. I think the times vary depending on season but we found them very practical And finally the staffs were helpful and polite.
dont beleave all negative reviews / great place to stay
my experience to orlando florida .I called the hotel and made my reservation,I arrived an i left the hotel after i checked in and walked to the convention center which was across the street .My travel was for 5 days of which 3 were at the convention center and the other2 were to go to the theme parks. This location was great, because sea world was walking distance,Disney 15 miles and universal 5 miles .Finally the hotel had a great breakfast and my room rate was very affordable and clean the pool area and common areas were very nice. My freind had stay at another hotel at the convention center and his rate was triple . If i had to travel to the convention area or the parks again i would stay at this hotel because for the time i spent there it work out great betwwen value and location as well as being clean.
Pretty Standard
It was pretty standard, good value for money. However, it requires modernization. The Air conditioner was very noise like an aircraft engine and I was disappointed with the Continental Breakfast. I would recommend the hotel to some one with a basic budget, but on a room basis only.
Bed Bugs are Bad
I have never been murdered by bedbugs or fleas or something as badly as I was at this hotel recently. The place is also a dump, resembling something from a bad 70s movie, and the staff when I enquired about checking in early were very impolite. Bring the insect repellant for in your room if you stay here...
Management response from welcome2 17 Apr 2008

We have a Pest Company who services and we have been renting the rooms and no one has complained about bugs.

This hotel sucks
This hotel was so horrible, it should be condemmed. I booked the hotel for one night after staying at Sea World all day. I did not want to travel back to Tampa (original vacation destination) after such a long day. The first room that I got was a smoking room and the staff would nt change it. I was traveling with my 3 year old daughter and this was not somewhere I wanted to place her. As I walked into the first room, the smell of urine and smoke was overwhelming. I called the front desk and the staff placed us in another room. While this room smelled better, the air conditioning do not work. I was so afraid that my daughter would contract a nasty disease, I refused to let her sleep under the covers. I laid her on top of a towel and covered her up with a blanket i had in the car. I think this hotel needs a major overhaul of management, staff, and facilities. If you love your children don't bring them to this hotel.
Bed bugs
We booked this hotel on a recommendation of one of our team. Great location but not a pleasent stay. We booked two rooms and a suite to accomodate our sales and management team doing a show at the nearby Convention Center. The two rooms were OK for the price but the suite was a total disaster. Bed bugs forced two of our team out of their suite in the early hours of the morning. There were many hundreds - not just a few. Some of these were collected in a plastic cup and taken to the front desk by my associates but were told nothing could be done until the morning. They sat in the fetal position on the chairs in their room until daybreak. As I have experience in the hotel industry I went and inspected the room as soon as I was told about the issue and indeed there were bed bugs everywhere, even crawling up the drapes. It was nasty. Bed bugs are a growing problem in the hotel industry but vigilant housekeeping can cut down on the problem. I demanded to speak to the owner which I did on the phone and there was no charge for two of our team for the entire 7 night stay and they were also moved to a different room that morning. Hopefully the issue has been resolved at this hotel by the time this review gets published as I made sure that the owner understood the industry standards for dealing with bed bug infestations. It is a difficult problem to resolve in any hotel especially when the infestation gets as bad as I witnessed it to be. Moral of the story - check in your bed for creapy-crawlies in the middle of the night (3:00 am would work) and complain loudly if you find bugs or wake up bitten. Other problems - We also saw two rats having a fight in front of the hotel door but I guess that is common in any city. Breakfast was not up to much. Generally the hotel staff were friendly and helpful.
disappointed
Got stuck with a smoking room and the staff would not change it!! The lobby and the room had a damp and a smokey smell. The room was not well lit! The free continental breakfast (which was advertized to us) was a disappointment. So we had to pay for a somewhat better one. Pros: Location is good - very close to seaworld. Calm and quiet ambience. But for the price we paid - it could have been better.
Mediocre
Stayed Apr 3-6 2007. There is still work to be done on the Jacuzzi as repairs are not complete. The hallways are dark, hot and not well ventilated. The bathroom did not appear to be clean or sanitized, use shower shoes. The room could use remodeling and the beds new matresses. I did not eat the continental breakfast. I had what was considered a suite, but it did not feel like it. The location is very convenient to the parks and away from the major traffic which is about the only plus.
Bargain
Booked with Trailfinders to stay here with a group of 9 colleagues to attend a conference at the convention centre. The location of the hotel/motel is absolutely perfect for this. The rooms were reasonable size, with tv, wireless internet access and digital safe. However, they did smell a little bit damp. You got used to it after a few minutes (until you went out and returned). Breakfast consisted of tea, coffee, orange or apple juice. Muffins, toast (and jam) and occassionally a piece of fruit. You could pay for a cooked breakfast if you wanted. The outdoor jacuzzi was broken when we visited and the pool was freezing (but it was december) For the price, it was an absolute bargain.
