Booked our holiday last year and was panicking a bit when i read some reviews about it.
The hotel itself was lovely and cool...just what you need when its so hot outside, it was spotlessly clean. The food was fantastic, lots to choose from, there is snacks all day outside, sandwiches, cakes, pizza , ice creams(which my 4 year old son took advantage of)
the pool was gorgeous and very clean, the staff was lovely and friendly, the animation team were great fun and really try to get the kids up enjoying themselves. The main guy from animation team Artur is very talented and work really hard to put on a good show.
The maids came every day and changed towels etc. If you hire a car i recommend Avia which is just inside the hotel only 55 euro's for 2 days. There are plenty of sun loungers to choose from with comfy cushions on them. There are restaurants just up the road if you fancy a change. Fat man slims across the road has all your britsh food and beers etc. Would definately recommend this hotel, and are hoping to go back again next year.
- Advice: lovely small place, with everything you need.
- Activities: Rhodes town, Lindos beach,Faliraki beach
- Good For: Beach

holiday got changed 6 weeks before departure from club vacation at trianda to the avra which was advised as one of the most popular on the island. found the rooms to be very clean, the hotel was very clean, but round the pool areas that was very disappointing. broken tiles which quite a few people cut their feet on,although the pool was nice the water never looked clean, paper cups and cigarette butts littered the surrounding area all the time we were there, and the road outside was unbelievable made the m25 look like a b road very very busy.
however the food and bar staff were very good very friendly although when we went and visited the club vacation another 4 star hotel we realised the avra was three star at best

just come back from two weeks in ixia. there were 18 of us!
the weather was great. the hotel was very clean and rooms cleaned every day. the food was nice but a few of the guys missed their 'normal' food ! real sausage and mash ! but fat man slims across the road was where they went to be fed even though we were all inclusive!
the greek are very friendly and we would definately go there again.
watch out for the british guys on mopeds with the scratch cards and say 'oh my god you've won! if you just go to our hotel down the road you can go and collect your prize' then they try and talk you into buying a time share although they don't call it that! they are very clever so watch out. if you are too trusting you will be parting with money that you don't have!
the entertainment team were not that good and yes there was a grumpy barmaid.
altogether we had a really good holiday and would recommend it

I am quite happy with this hotel. The rooms were ok, the pool area was ok but the entertainment was a waste of time! It was ok, but the stage was basically all the tables and chairs of the so called bar moved out of the way. I meen, i think someone should advise them to get a proper stage!
Here are my over all ratings...
Food: 8/10 - Quite repetitive.
Room: 10/10 - Good room, cleaned every day.
Area: 9/10 - Good area, shops just along the rood.
Situation: 9/10 - Good enough. Close to all clubs and bars.
Staff: 9/10 - Staff were good and were doing there jobs.
Quality: 8/10 - Good quality hotel, modern and stylish.
Hotel: 9/10 - Good, modern, nice and rather big.
Resturant: 4/10 - I have said this because all there was around our feet were stray cats which probably had flees and god knows, it was disgusting, they jumped up on tables and rolled on the floor! The staff didnt do anything about it.
Holiday Overall: 9/10 - Good holiday, you get what you expect, good bar, good staff, i advise this to families and other people who like the look of it.

Arrived at rhodes airport only to be put onto a bus sat in the same place for an hour! the rep came back and said we were only waiting 5 mins which turned out to be 45! I would get a taxi in future,10 mins and bout 10 euros!
Anyways .. Avra Beach. Reception staff v friendly. Rooms cleaned on a daily basis, new towels and things. Road was v busy but the hotel was amazing, pool was lush, and great daytime and night time entertainment. Only downside i would say was the food, mash, chips&salad is what i ate for a week. Air con is mint,i would deffo get it,well worth ur money. Rhodes town 10 mins away on th bus or taxi which takes 10 mins, great for shopping!!! Fat man slims across the road is gud so go ther!!! Just returned from Avra Beach holiday. we were there for 2 weeks. We went with a party of 32 and overall had a holiday of a lifetime!!!
There are some many comments on here about how bad the place was but i dont know how people can say that. It is the best place ever to take kids. There are so many activities and entertainment for them.
We went out because myself and my new Husband were getting married in Rhodes town hall. It is really clean, maid service was great, (they were in there everyday changing towels bedding and cleaning) pool was lovely and clean. The food was great, andbody in the world could go there and find something they liked. There was loads of choice and they done special choices all the time.
As for the road outside. We never seemed to have a problem with it. The traffic always stopped to let people cross and it was quite quiet compared to what has been said on here.
Because we were getting married we got a complimentray bottle of champagne on our wedding nite from the hotel which was great.
The entertaiment staff are great fun. They always have something for you to do!! (i would advise girls not to take part in the water polo tho - its very rough). There is a little kids club which i nieces and nephews really enjoyed.
People are complaing about the sea in some of their reviews but i thought it was lovely. You can get soem beach shoes from the shop in the hotel for pennies (you will need these it really hurts your feet if not -or in my case you just fall over).
There is a great bar over the road called Fat Man Slims, the owner is Ray. He organised the buffet we had after our wedding. I t was really cheap and the food was amazing!! (really recommend their breakfast (all english)!!)
There were quite a few foreign people stoppin there but it was fine.
If there was any down fall it would be that we were in room 100 and it was the smallest room in the hotel. But once we had asked to move we were put in one of the luxury rooms!!
All the children stop on the bottom floor so you dont have to worry if you come back from Falaraki about the noise too much!!
Rhodes town was only 5 minutes away!! (only costs 10euros for taxi) hence the reason why there are not to many amazing shops in Ixia. But htere is plenty to do.
Any questions just drop me an e-mail.

Me and my boyfriend just came back from a week in Avra Beach Hotel. This was definetly a very good stay.
The hotel itself is big and possbily just re-decorated to good standards. It has a great location - about 10 minutes by bus from Rhodes town, right by the sea. The beach itself has no sand, which did not bother us at all as we spant most time by the pool anyway. You can see Turkey coast from the distance, which is quite impressive especially when the sun goes down. Pool was quite big, sometimes crowded, but def no complaints about this. Water always clean and nicely refreshing as it was VERY, VERY hot. People really did reseve the sunbeds very early, which was annoying at the beginning, but still we had no problems to find some spare place for us.
As for the food - I think you really have to be fussy to complain about the lack of variety. The choice of meals was huge and food was good as well, some traditional Greek dishes mixed with some general continental meals. We never had a problem with finding a place to sit during meal time. Also, whenever we were going on a day trip we were provided with some basic lunch, but you have to make sure you ask for it at the reception the day before. Good service at the pool bar - one bartender a bit grumpy, but I found it rather funny. They definetly were not shy with the alcohol in the cocktails. I also found the cocktail selection quite good, but you could also ask for any alcohol combination anyways. Staff was very nice and polite - especially a nice older man at the reception. You can see that the manager is ALWAYS there, making sure all goes smoothly with no problems, and from what I could see, he was always very happy to help. Rooms were cleaned every day, with new towels and bed sheets.
The only minus of the trip was the flights, but this had got nothing to do with the hotel. Thomas Cook has got the most uncomfortable planes I have ever experienced - there is barely any space around the seats and the flight takes 4hrs, which is a real nightmare!
I would definetly recommend staying in Avra as we really, really enjoyed every part of it. Good value for money, thumbs up!

I stayed at the Avra Beach Hotel in September 2007, 2 weeks AI with my 2yr old daughter and my best friend.
We had a great time at the hotel, it was lovely and clean, the maids were in on a daily basis cleaning up and giving fresh towels, bed linen was changed every 2nd day which was fine.
We had a side view and if we looked out we could see the sea although on the 2nd week we were moved to a 'bungalow' as there was a leak in our bathroom (from the room above), this was a lovely room, could see the pool area from the front door and the sea from the balcony.
The food was quite repetitive for fussy folk like me but it was good, lots of choice, and various different foods every day.
The entertainment wasn’t that great, although my daughter loved the mini disco, it was the bingo that went on for ages, mainly because they go over each number in about 4 different languages, very talented!!
Although we were right at the sea we didn’t venture in, as we didn’t have beach shoes.
There is a very busy road outside the hotel but we found the Greek drivers to be very courteous, possibly cos we had a buggy! Most would stop to let us cross, holding up everyone else but we were very grateful!
Rhodes Town is a few mins away in a taxi, or about 45min walk which we done once. It’s beautiful, the people are so friendly.
We often took a walk into Ixia in the evening after dinner, and through the day we sometimes walked along to Trianda/IIalysos beach which is really nice and has a 'road train' which was cheaper than the one in Rhodes Town.
This was my 2nd visit to Rhodes and I'll defo be going back, so far it’s my favourite Greek island.
Not sure I’d go back to the Avra Beach Hotel, the main things that would put me off where the snacks throughout the day, as someone else said, they aint very nice! Also the pool area was VERY slippery, lots of people nearly fell over, and I didn’t think it was very safe, could do with investing in something to stop that!!
An enjoyable holiday nonetheless!

A very pleasant break. We were warmly welcomed to this friendly hotel. Our rooms were fine on the 1st. floor (as requested as one of our party is partially disabled) overlooking the gardens and pool with the sea beyond.
The gardens are beautifully maintained, as is the pool, with its own clever little ramp for wheelchairs. A novel idea.
The food was somewhat repetitive but good and nourishing. We are going again this year, so it can't be all that bad. For a four star hotel (which it just about rates) it is a very reasonably priced holiday.
One thing, don't rely on the airport transfer buses; we had to wait over an hour for another flight arriving to fill up our bus. Rhodes airport is one of the worst (after Heraklion in Crete) so get a taxi down early for 15 euro on your return journey. (I shouldn't really be telling you this, spoil it for us).
Seriously , this will however will save you endless queuing once you arrive at the airport, just go straight to the check-in before any of the coaches arrive even.
Also, set your alarm clock to get a sunbed (I recommend about 6 a.m.) In all a good relaxing holiday. If the staff try to be a little unfriendly, remember they work LONG hours.
Have a chat and a joke with them. A smile is worth a lot, as is a good tip.

We had a really good time here. You get what you pay for. All inclusive food is boring by the end of the holiday. We're used to that as we always go AI so we go out to eat when we get fed up of it.
Loads of restaurants to choose from - yes Fatman Slims is good and friendly and so's Blue Palm; loads of bars in Ixia. Or catch the bus into Rhodes Town. We had 6 in our party and it was cheaper to get the bus than get two taxis. Rhodes Town is beautiful at night - loads of great shopping. In fact we were surprised in Rhodes how cheap everything was compared to Spain, Canaries, etc and none of the hassle and letching you get in Turkey when you've got girls in the party.
As anywhere if the world, if you try and make an effort to speak the language, you will get better service both in the hotel and out. Even if you can just say please and thank you!
The main road outside the hotel is horrendous. Don't let kids cross on their own. They need some sort of crossing before someone gets killed.
Don't bother to pack toiletries, sun tan lotion, etc - just turn right out of the hotel and walk up to Nannou supermarket at the end of resort by the Shell garage. All the locals shop there and everythings cheaper than at home. Save on your luggage allowance!
Try and ask for a garden facing room on ground floor - ours had a side sea view and was not scenic as overlooked a roof terrace. Only on 1st floor though so didn't need to take lift and just a short walk from pool and was really quiet at night which was good. Balcony really hot as air conditioning unit on it. Never stayed in our room for long so wasn't a problem. AC was fab thank God as was in 40's during our stay.
Animation team worked really hard and ok if you had kids young enough to enjoy kids club (i.e. under 9) or if you were adults who enjoy audience participation games (which we don't). Unfortunately ours were 10, 12 and 13,but fortunately they made loads of friends and had fun anyway. My boy was gutted he wasn't allowed to play football with the men and it was a shame they didn't organise football for the boys as all nationalities wanted to play and they could have held a great World Cup!
Maids worked really hard too and came in every day to clean room and give out clean towels. Also possibly the most honest maids I have ever seen on holidays.
We did get up early for sunbeds but only because we wanted the ones right by the end by the sea to get the sea breeze. Would have been far too hot for us by the pool. We were up every day at 6.30 am and having breakfast by 7 - never done that before! We could have got up a lot later and still got beds if we'd not wanted shade though. We had great view of Turkish coastline and despite the shingle beach (buy beach shoes when you get there!) spent more time in the sea than by the pool!
If you have kids and have a good doctor at home, do what we do and bring unmade up anti-biotics with you - all the kids there seemed to have ear infections in the pool and it's really expensive to get a doctor out!
Rhodes airport was a nightmare getting home from but despite this we are now in love with the Greek Islands and have just got out some brochures to book our next one!

Just returned on the 11th July after two weeks at the Avra Beach. It is a beautiful large hotel but unfortunately there are not enough sunbeds to go around and if you must have one I recommend you take an alarm clock as people were getting up as early as 4.30 to reserve them. I know as I saw them one morning as I couldn't sleep and was out on the balcony.
The food was good although a bit repetitive, but very plentiful and quick friendly service. Although the guy at the beach bar could do with a few lessons in customer relations.
Entertainment was very repetitive although the team did work especially hard and in 45 degree heat that is no mean feat. Drinks were very limited, just one type of beer which seemed to be very weak, and a small selection of cocktails and spirits which are listed at the bar. Don't have the wine at the beach bar as mine was watered down and tasted more like Ribena.
The rooms are extremely clean and are cleaned every day with a very efficient maid service but they are very small and a bit cramped if there are more than two. Saying that, we had a stunning view over the beatifully kept gardens and the sea.
Finally just a word of warning the road outside is very very busy and it takes an age to cross. Be careful if you have elderly people or young children with you. All in all a lovely holiday; as Rhodes is a beautiful island and well worth a trip to see Rhodes old town it is breathtaking enjoy!

First off ill start with the good hotel is in a great location with bars and restraunts right opposite. A place called Fat Man Slims is brilliant English owned and all imported English foods great prices on drinks and staff are so friendly! Chinese restraunt is amazing a definate try for those who love their chinese foods and a little italian just a bit further up with the best pizzas! jus a taxi ride away from rhodes town cost about 8 euro! Entertainment is brilliant probabley one of the best entertainment teams ive ever seen! Brilliant for children. Pool area is really nice. Rooms very spacious and clean!
Now the bad, paid all inclusive and was very disappointed food was very poor lacked flavour, was either dried out or covered in oil! Salad was always stale! Often seen flies landing on food! Breakfast was awful hot dog sausages tinned fruit and soggy scrambled egg! Lunch was often last nights left overs no need to say more on that! Drinks were all watered down which we were told this by a member of staff there! Very german based hotel always had to please the germans and the french this we were also told by members of staff! Beach towels on sunbeds from as early as 5 am! Often had to argue for clean towels to be left everyday! I would advise if you went here to try and go on a half board or even self catering basis! We went all inclusive to save some money but ended up eating out near enough every night any way! But the entertainment did by far make up for it! Also we were told it was a shingle beach but it is actually stone!
