Me and my friend went to oscar last year and it was an absolute diaster. My mum and her friend came too with their children who were 3 and 8. Me and my friend would go out at night down the strip, come back and talk to some boys outside the apartment just having a laugh. The women behind reception came out and told us to shut our mouths where do you think you are. So we all had to whisper. Then she came out again and told us to go to bed! we explained to her that we were on holiday and we wasnt harming anything or anyone else we shouldnt be made to go to bed. She eventually left us alone for the space of 20 minutes. she came back and held a snooker que to my friend and one of the boys we met had to stand up and tell her not to hit her. It was awful we couldnt beleive it. She said tomorrow bye bye! She kicked us out the hotel the next day. my mum and my mums friend too with the children. we walked across the pool with everyone watching us because everyone had been talking and they couldnt belive it either. we got moved to the other side of greece in tsvili. The receptionist also kicked 2 girls out at midnight as 2 lads walked them home and they were laughing outside the hotel. They had to get their suit cases and get out. they were on the phone crying to parents back home as they had no where to go as it was 4am. We also met 2 other girls and they got charged 80 euroes for having henna tattoo on their bed sheet. The hotel is actually a nice hotel butt the staff are disgraceful. If staff were replaced i would reccommend to anyone.

Hotel Oscar was fantastic in every way, the staff were great- especially Nico and Yiannis. My friend got really ill on the holiday, and the staff were really helpful about it, but mostly the tour operator- they were great. The rooms were perfect and had everything you needed, it was cheap, it may have been a walk from the strip but thats one of the things that was good about it. Kept away from all the noise so if you wanted to relax you could. And taxis anywhere on the island were 6euros so was easy to get to the strip and back. The pool was perfect, so good that we didnt end up going to the beach once the whole time we were there- apart from at 4 in the morning outside cherry bay. Best holiday of my life, and would recommend anyone to go there. Hoping to convince my friends to go back next year!

Got to hotel and found that we had been booked in a studio instead of an apartment as we had upgraded online. The receptionist not could not apologise enough and we got our one bedroomed apartment the next day. They knocked 50 euros off our bill and gave us free air conditioning for the rest of the two weeks which saved us over 84 euros. Hotel was lovely and very clean. The owner was very nice and we even got a few free drinks. It was full of young people but all well behaved and if they weren't the were told. One person was told to pack his bags because he went around the pool with a thong that had a horses head on it and some people became offended. He apologised to everyone and was allowed to stay. Yannis the bar man was brilliant and did a great job. He introduced me to my first tequila slammer!!!. Teh only downside is that it was 25 mins to the strip and 35 mins to the beach. The strip was full of 16/17 yr olds on holiday without mummy and daddy for the first time and after a week of boom boom music, kids falling at our feet drunk and toilets in bars disgustingly filthy we decided to head for kalamaki which was much better for me and my hubby. Lovely restaurants, bars and people our age!!! It has put me off going to Zante again but if i could take the Oscar Apartments somewhere else with me i would.

The Oscar has to be the best hotel in Laganas, even though its on the outskirts of the town. The hotel staff are excellent and really look after you. Costas, Ellie and Nicoletta the management team do everything to make you feel welcome. We will be returning fo our 15th visit in September 2010. The amount of people who return every year shows how much people like this hotel.
The pool is great and clean, it is cleaned properly thats why people cant swim in it at night. The rooms are cleaned to a high standard and the pool bar is good.
If you are visiting for the first time don't be put iff by some of the reviews visit and make your own mind up.
The Paradise restaurant is down the road to Laganas and well worth a visit. Jimmy and his family will serve you great food, don't forget to have lamb kleftiko.

The rooms were ok for 18-30's holidays. Pool average and a cool pool side bar. The only thing that RUINED the holiday were the staff. Very hostile, rude and demand deposits from everyone! Even though it said we didnt need one! Refused the best part of our deposit back because a plate was missing.... which was left in the apartment next to us!
This hotel is fine if you just want to go out get drunk and crash at the hotel, its 6 euros to the strip per taxi, right at the end so its not noisy.
But dont get to uptight about the staff... horrible!

Me and my 5 other friends came here and it was the most amazing holiday ever. The strip was a minutes taxi journey away and cost 2euros each so it wasnt a problem. the rooms were nice and clean and we had a balcony over looking the pool. we were all 18 and it was so much fun, there was a happy hour every night where we had nice cocktails and the bar man 'yannis' was so friendly. we didnt get charged when we entered the apartments and didnt have to leave a deposit they just kept one passport per room sort of as a deposit. We will return back next year.

From Peter and Marg Scotland...
Just to advise anyone going on holiday to the Oscar Apts Laganas..... IT WAS FANTASTIC... We had read previous reviews, and we were beginning to wonder what on earth we had booked up for.. Gestapo tactics.. charges for entering the reception... plus various other charges for sheets etc... and being chased out of the pool at 1830.... Well forget them.. The hotel reception was immaculate, a lovely entrance, everything looked so new and clean.. booking in was a doddle, done in a couple of minutes.. we had apt 402, upstairs, with balcony overlooking the pool and garden area.. excellant...Apt was very clean, as were the cooking utensils and facilities, toilets tiled from top to bottom. The cleaners arrived to clean the apt every day.. except sunday..well they do need 1 day off.. the staff were cheery, friendly and took time to chat.. in fact they all took a moment to ask if you were well, and having a good time. The pool rules stated that it had to be vacated at 1830.... thats reasonable... why !!!... well they did clean it at that time with chemicals.. ps.. it was also suction hoovered at 0730 in the morning.. so I dont think that to un-reasonable....there were no gestapo tactics, as mentioned in previous reviews...see jun/jul... there were no charges for soiled sheets or towels.. mind you, when you see the colour of sheets when they are stained with Henna tattoos or make up... I don't blame them for charging...We met a fantastic crowd.. the girls from East Kilbride. the Stornoway lassies..and of course the English and Welsh families and couples. From 18 to 60.. We had a ball.. 20 of us went to the Sirocco restaurant in Laganas on our last night.. Fantastic evening.. Greek dancing, and the plates were smashed.. So my advice would be... GO...you will have such a good time...

Review by Maggie, Donna, & Christina (aka: The Banana People), Western Isles (Sept - Oct 2009)
Started out really dreading our holiday due to reading previous bad reviews on this site, thought we were going to end up spending our two weeks in some type of prison camp and that we would end up on the holiday from hell... how wrong I was!!!
Arrived at Hotel Oscar on the Thursday and we were greeted by the hotel manager, who was completely lovely, we were anticipating a room deposit as mentioned in previous reviews (three females sharing a room) but nothing had to be paid.
When we arrived in out allocated room (room 110) it was on the ground floor and the room was pretty dark as it was opposite the pool bar and did not received an lot of daylight, although the room was spotless we could not imagine spending our two weeks in it as we had requested a balcony on booking. We went straight round to reception after seeing it and explained to the manager who told us that he could move us to the second floor Sunday/Monday when a room was available, we were happy enough to wait and received a phone call from him on Saturday morning to say another room was available (room 210). This room was also spotless, could not fault the cleanliness of the hotel, rooms were cleaned Monday - Saturday (6 days a week).
About the room: Decent size (required for 3 girls sharing), plenty sockets, wall mounted 19" flat screen tv, nice beds, bedside cabinet, wardrobe, dressing table and chair, air conditioning (payable at reception) although we did not use as the balcony doors had a mesh screen that could be pulled over to stop bugs getting in.
Kitchen Facilities: Kitchen is just slightly off the room, small but more than ample, sink and draining board, kettle, ring for cooking, toaster and fridge with freezer compartment, more than enough kitchen utensils supplied.
Bathroom: Bathroom was clean and completely tiled, small porcelain bath with shower, sink with large mirror and hairdryer mounted to wall, bin was cleaned 6 days out of 7 and two toilet rolls were always there. Good lighting in bathroom for doing make-up etc and small window that can be opened to get rid of steam ...or any smells from offerings to the procelain god!!
Balcony: The balcony had the usual table and chairs, and an extending wall dryer for drying clothes.
A safety deposit box is available at reception for a price of 10 euros per week, travelers cheques can be exchanged at reception and they will phone you a taxi to get down to the main strip if required.
Other facilities: At the main complex there is a pool table, X-Box, Playstation, Dart Board, internet facilities, there is also a small park for the kids to play in and various courts etc for tennis, basketball, football etc.
Free bus: There is a free bus that will take you to the bottom of the main Strip at the beach and will also pick you up there to take you back to the hotel (check the timetable on the wall by reception for drop off and pick up times).
Taxi: Reception will phone a taxi for you in the evening if required, all taxis cost 6 Euros to the main strip, to get back to the hotel by taxi you will find a couple of ranks on the strip.
Pool facilities: There is a large pool with a small kiddies pool attached,Jacuzzi which is switched on for two hours a day and plenty of sunloungers around the pool. Pool area is a lovelly place to relax and try and top up that tan, there are also toilet and shower facilities by the pool.
Pool bar: The pool bar is a great place to hang out through the day and also in evening if you do not fancy heading down the main strip. They serve food until 9.00pm in the evening and there is some form of entertainment put on nearly every night, karaoke, quiz's, racing, bingo (don't knock the bingo, we won nearly 200 Euros the first night we played!!)etc. There is also a Greek night put on every two weeks, well worth booking this, we had a great night. If you're interested in getting a little merry and don't want to spend too much cash request a fish bowl, this works out a lot cheaper than just buying standard drinks. There is a small shop to the side of the pool bar ideal for picking up odds and ends, you are better just picking up your bottled water here rather than lugging it back from one of the shops (1.89 Euros for a pack of 6 large bottles).
You will get told off if you make noise after 2.00am on the balcony, but they are just trying to make you have some consideration for the other residents. We got asked (nicely) by the security guard (who looks like Jims Dad from American Pie) one night to keep the noise down (we were slightly merry and didn't realise how much voices echo round the complex at night from the balcony)but that was the end of it. If you are planning on being complete hell raisers away, heading down the strip every night and not comming back until 5.00am in the morning, completely plastered and making a racket you are asking for trouble, the hotel staff aren't out to get you they just want the rest of the residents to enjoy their stay too, so have a little respect!
Can't rate this hotel enough, staff were lovelly and we had a great two weeks and made some great friends, would definately go back again... wish I was back!!
Thanks to all staff: Hotel Mum & Dad, Audry, Jim's Dad and not forgetting Yanni the barman for a great holiday.
xXx

Just this afternoon returned from a fortnight staying at the brilliant Oscar Hotel. After getting over the torrential storms for the first 3 days it soon brightened up. Nonethless the staff did all they could to keep us entertained during the bad weather. Rooms were spotless and cleaned 6 days out of seven. Bar food was a limited menu but what was on offer was cooked to perfection. Pool area was clean and tidy, nice sized pool, good little pool for the kids too, my nephew is only 2 and he reallly enjoyed the pool. The bar has entertainment on nearly every night, and Yannis (missing you already buddy and my Black Russian! Yammas! Laura says hello too) top bloke, very funny guy, keeps everbody entertained. A fair walk to the main strip but only €6 in a taxi, there is a free bus from the hotel but only a few times a day. Loads of great bars and restaurants to eat in. The Secret Of Tastes was a favourite. Love the Summertime Bar (Hello Sandra) for the comedy. Met some great people staying at the oscar, fair play you Scots are a bunch of nutters!! LOL. Would definately recommend this hotel, no problems as I read on previous reviews, no deposit on the rooms, no miserable staff. Very enjoyable time and will defiantely be returning. Should be 5* not 3*

We arrived at Oscar and were greeted by a not so friendly receptionist who asked us for a deposit of 25 euro each. Not a great start but however..... We were then told by the receptionist that our rooms were not yet ready, after waiting for half an hour and not to happy,a couple who had been to Oscar many times before took us to our room. We stayed in a small studio which was just perfect for us, very clean apartments and the rooms where cleaned 6 days out of 7. Our room had a small kitchen area, basic bathroom facilities. Bar staff were very friendly, always chatty and willing 2 help. Food in the Oscar was lovely, GREAT cook !! Pool area is well cared for , very clean and looked after well, cleaned every night.Outside the Oscar their isn't much to do , their is 2 nice restaurants close by and a nice ( but expensive!) supermarket over the road. To get down to the main nightlife it is 6 euro in a taxi...if ur brave enough 2 get in one....Our taxi driver had a nice refreshing drink of smirnoff ice whilst on his mobile ...oh and doing about 50mph down the strip LOL. Down the strip there is loads to see and do , lots of bars , nightclubs and restaurants , also some nice gift shops. Try out Sirrocco restaurant...the food is spot on, beware of your free drink after your meal!! haha. Loads of bars to choose from , great offers and free shots with every cockitail :P (Watch out 4 gypsy kids selling glow bands for one euro. Would't reccomend Laganas beach , sea was quite dirty and sunbeds seem to all b squashed together. Try Kalamaki beach ...alot nicer, only small but a much cleaner & quieter beach. We reccomend hirirng a quad for a few days, reasonable prices and great to get around the island and up and down the strip. Would definatley stay here again!!! Jamie and Danielle

Just returned from the oscar where my wife, son and his partner and grandson spent the week. I must say we were made most welcome and was very well looked after, nothing was to much trouble and were very helpful. The hotel is very clean and the rooms wew perfect. the mini bus was available and even took us when we wanted to go to the beach and arranged a time for pick up if we required it. Hire car was arranged through the hotel and they showed us places of interest on the map. the hotel is at the start of the main strip but far enough away from the noise of the night clubs etc. Very good during the day but not for family's at night. I would recommend the oscar without a second thought as we throughly enjoyed the stay.
