Just come back from the Doreta Beach, whilst myself the wife and 2 children had a good time we only stayed 7 days and where not expecting the world as we only booked 5 days prior to travelling. Here are my thoughts on each section.
The Hotel:
There is no way in the world it is a 4 Star Hotel, I would say it is pushing a 2 1/2 star.
The Rooms:
The rooms where adequate and that’s it, we where given a room on the top floor (5th) which if you had no children was great but it had 5 very nice large marble steps from the bathroom down to the bedroom area, not a good point with an 18 month old, to be fair they moved us to the 2nd floor the next morning but the room was then a standard sized double room. Storage in the room is an issue and the air con is just an old radiator style air cooler (Cool ish but not Aircon).
The beds where not the best by any means and as we stayed in 2 rooms I feel I can comment on this, the pillows were a highlight (Golf balls with cloth covers) they were class. I took all the pillows from the both rooms we used and out of 9 I found 2 that us pampered English would find useable.
The Food:
I had no problems at all with the food, remember that English will always stand in a queue because that must be right, it isn’t, they have 3 sections within the restaurant that you can choose from, they have everything on each one but for some reason most people (English) all head for only one.
The selection was fine and cater for most tastes, try the non-English cuisine and you will be surprised, again the people who I heard moaning where complaining the choice was limited which again if they had walked to all 3 serving stations they may have been surprised.
The Drinks:
The lager on offer with the A/I has no alcohol content at all, I tried on several occasions to drink more than 15 glasses in a session with no effect at all, it looked and tasted like beer but I bet Kaliber has more alcohol in it. Now if you pay for the beer (Amstel) 3 pints later you can feel it.
The spirits consist of local Vodka, Bacardi and Gin where alright but stay away from the A/I cocktails as they must have at least 2 lbs of sugar per glass.
The pool:
Was not bad but again had issues, the large pool is deep and only has 2 very small sections which are 5 feet deep the rest is 6'2 and 8 feet throughout.
The baby pool is 3 ft deep throughout which isn’t that good when your 18 month old wants to play. At no point during my stay did I see anybody take a water sample as it was plainly obvious the water was getting less transparent as each day went on and the baby pool was full of sand.
Now for the best bit about the pool area SUN BEDS:
How does 5:00 am sound for getting your beds because this is the time you will have to get your towels out to get a bed of any description in any location, agreed we went in peak weeks but come on 5:00 am isn’t good. It isn’t the Germans either its the English who are to blame.
The entertainment:
For one hour a night 9-10 pm they played the same songs which the kids loved (Black Lace) and tried in vain to supply entertainment to the adults from 10-11pm, my advice is to start on the spirits by 7pm and then the entertainers become really funny by 10pm.
One last thing don’t pay before you travel for a late check out from your room as this isn’t possible during August or early September due to capacity at the hotel, we didn’t pay but many did only to be told to check out at 12:00 pm and take any complaints up with the rep who was never there.
Conclusion:
I would probably not go back there as it wasn’t what the brochure says but the A/I removes the hassle of spending more cash on food then drinks for the kids and beer for the adults. Don’t go if you are expecting 4 star service or accommodation.
If your expectations are lower you will enjoy it, the 4 stars are issued by the Greeks not the operators. I hope my opinion has helped potential visitors out.

My family and I found Doreta beach to be a very pleasant hotel to stay in. People who complain about the rooms, why bother?
You go on holiday for the beach and the sites. Don’t sit in your room all day. The staff were always friendly and willing to help. The food was great and the children loved the cats and kittens. The water sports were free and fun. It's obviously not so hot in October but the staff never acted as if it was coming to the end of the season and were always there to help.
The staff are also very child friendly which is great as were all the Greek people. I would recommend Doreta to anyone, that’s why were going back this year.

Just arrived home after a 2 week stay in the Doreta Beach Hotel, I would say do not listen to any bad reviews on this hotel, me and my partner who are 21 and 24 really enjoyed our stay, it is for couples and families, if you don’t like kids too much there are plenty of places you can sunbathe in around the hotel.
Beach is fine and the breeze is welcomed!! : )
Food is ok but bit boring after a week or so, few bars along hotel but Rhodes is nearby, would say if you are not sure then you should go

Just came back from Doreta Beach 4 Star Hotel not! Arrived at Hotel and thought yeah not bad but it was in the night and everything does seem to be better in the dark.
We were given the keys to our room and proceeded to the first floor, The corridors reminded me of school.
We had a twin room which was big enough for the four of us but did lack storage space, the air con was from the dark ages and the bed linen was a lot to be desired, yet i suppose it was clean, that was something.
Bathroom well bath was big enough if you were a gnome! Interior was not at all four star standard.
We had a balcony which over looked the sea but due to the amount of mosquitoes we could not use it, Didn’t matter how much repellent that you used you would still get bitten one woman that was there the same time as us got bitten 198 times and suffered for the whole of her holiday so be warned.
Pool huge but was very deep so if you have small children then I suggest you keep your eyes peeled at all times as there is no lifeguard.
Snack bar oh my god it had one two slice toaster for the whole of the complex and the food was not covered so even the flies were all inclusive!
There is no First Aider at all in the hotel, I found this out as my 12 year old was ill and when I asked for a First Aider I was told they didn’t have one, I then asked for them to get a doctor straight away and was horrified when they told me he had to come from Rhodes which is around 25 minutes away and that he would come but they didn’t know how long he would be we waited at least half an hour before he arrived.
The next day we had to take her to the Hospital in Rhodes my goodness it’s on the highest mountain there and you need danger money to get there. When we got there the staff were so laid back they were virtually horizontal! And not very helpful at all.
Entertainment in the hotel ha ha, your having a laugh. The night entertainment was done by the animation team who ran the days activities, although they tried their best on times it was like pulling teeth night after night, this was definitely not four star at all.
Restaurant well the majority of the food was ok but the downside, lunchtime was horrendous where you had to queue up for twenty minutes as they only had one of the two food bars open. We took photos for proof!
On one occasion we only had one choice of dessert which was a small cake I cant believe that for a four star.
Drinks bar shuts dead on 11pm and don’t expect anything special as when I asked for a Baileys I was told they didn’t stock a locally produced equivalent.
If you’re thinking of booking your holiday at this hotel then dint expect any special touches I would struggle even to say this was a 3 star it’s more like a 2 star all inclusive.

We traveled here in May and loved it. The food was excellent always a great choice. Pool and grounds great.
Entertainment team great we met some great people who we hope to see again. Ok the down side.
It’s on a flight path and ok after a few days its not as obvious but its still there you can even write down plane numbers and airlines! Also mosquitoes no matter how much stuff we put on or sprayed about we were bit and needed antibiotics when we returned home. We would definitely return. All things considered we had a really great time.

Me and my wife have just returned from Doreta Beach. All I can say is we enjoyed it so much as a couple, even though it was a much more family orientated complex. The room was adequate for the two of us with a view of the main street. It was clean on arrival and well looked after for us during our stay.
The food was excellent and the catering staff were very friendly. There was plenty to choose from and fresh food was always being replenished. The little fat man does a good job of keeping his staff on their toes.
The facilities are brilliant there is always something available to eat or drink. The beach was a little windy more of a summer breeze but with the very hot soaring temperatures it was welcomed and we found it more comfortable than around the pool.
Don't be put off by the planes flying overhead to nearby Rhodes airport, never woke me up!
There were plenty of bees around the pool bar and the staff were trying there best to keep them to a minimum, as well as the stings!
Mosquito's were everywhere so make sure you use a good repellant. The entertainment team were a bit amateurish and predictable (no I wasn't applauding you I was mozzy splatting!) but the kids seem to enjoy themselves.
When the inclusive bar closes at 11pm there are plenty of local bars to visit where you are made very welcome, we tried most of them! Big screens all over if you are there for the world cup! One more point, a taxi from the airport is a lot cheaper than the hotel transfer, I'll remember that for next time.
A good tip, if you are catching a bus from outside the Hotel to Rhodes Town walk back down the road and catch it outside Dundees bar, better chance of a seat.

Me and My Partner stayed here for 7 nights, and after reading these reviews before we left we was very surprised to see such a lovely hotel. When we arrived the receptionists were very polite and understanding.
The hotel looked immaculate and you could see plenty of cleaners around. The staff were excellent especially the bar staff (very professional). The food was not that good but they are Greek do you really think they are going to be able to cook as well as us English! Yes big up Danny Devito look-alike. The room was adequate you get the basics but who uses their room for anything else apart from sleeping in when it is 30 degrees outside.
The wind was not too bad. The view was great you can see Turkey and the sunset is unmissable. Free drinks finished at eleven but that didn’t stop us there was a couple of clubs across the road who opened until early hours. Yeah mental. The entertainment team have scheduled events for every day of the week and they are brilliant for young and old especially the kids.
Great holiday I strongly recommend Doreta Beach to all families but look out for mosquitoes.
Don’t go self catering here only all inclusive will do its good value for money.
Superb!

Me and my boyfriend went on holiday here, and we didn't quite know what to expect after reading some reviews, but we had the best time ever.
The bar staff are amazing, and even though all inclusive stopped at 11pm we still had a good supply of drinks in front of us thanks to them. Must admit food wasn't the nicest, but it was ok, we didn't starve. The pool is nice, very deep though no shallow end unfortunately, but just take your lilo!
The beach was nice, but bit windy, spent most time by the pool and bar than on the beach. We went on some really nice trips there which was great. I would go again, and would recommend this holiday, if you want some where quiet, but still with lots to do!! And a very nice bar just over the road too!

** DO NOT STAY SELF CATERING HERE**
Was an absolute nightmare, our room was in what we called a shack near the sea, we weren’t even in the main hotel. We complained to the reception but nothing was done.
We had cockroaches and some huge bugs in our room, my 3 year old was scared to go to bed. The ceiling looks like it was going to fall down on us as plaster was missing and you could see the metal parts in the concrete, the kitchen was just a double unit with a sink and hob on top, couldn’t use the hob as it absolutely stank, the fridge door didn’t shut so water leaked out every day, the kettle looked like it hadn’t been used in months.
The bathroom wasn’t any better either, there were spaces on the walls were tiles had fallen off and the shower didn’t work properly and if you used shower gel then it would come up through the drain in the floor and end up with a dangerous slippery floor.
I really would not recommend anyone to stay self catering.
The pool was nice but was really, really windy and the kids complained about getting sand in there eyes....
We didn’t use the kids club as went on days out more to get away from the room.
We did book a late room in the main hotel but then had problems getting to the 2nd floor as the lift was about 3ft x 3ft and couldn’t fit everything in. On the plus side the hotel room was nice and the bathroom was tiled very nice but the view was horrible it was in the middle of the hotel so the view from the balcony was into someone else’s room, not nice at all.
Would definitely not stay in DORETA BEACH again and would not recommend it either.
We never ate in the hotel we went to a few nice restaurant including Sunset Bar and Mikes Bar they were lovely, and we went a little further down the road to the crazy golf but there wasn’t much else to do in the evening.

I visited the hotel Doreta Beach back in 2004 and what a place it was. I looked it up on the net and thought it looked nice on just pictures but when I got there I was amazed how great it was.
The beach was practically on your doorstep, although the sand wasn’t what you would associate with a beach but there you go. The staff of the hotel where very helpful also. the rooms were very basic but when your on holiday your only in your room to sleep so it didn’t really matter that much, the food as well was not bad, plenty of choice but as the Greeks like their food warm and not boiling you wont get a red hot meal, but it was tasty and to my liking.
There was a choice for kids as well as adults. The area itself is pretty quiet which I prefer, but is only a stones throw away from the towns and bars. If anyone would be in two minds whether or not to visit here, I would say go, for the price I paid, I didn’t expect luxury, but this was worth a lot more than what I actually paid.

Great Holiday! Kids loved it...so did I.
I thought I would scan the comments made by other guests and I am very surprised at the amount of negative remarks.
We upgraded to All Inclusive and I have to say that it was money very well spent. The entertainment at night, I admit, was not altogether my cup of tea but, what the hell, I was on holiday!
The kids and I had a great time overall and looking to go back for another fortnight this year.
To those whingers who are clearly put off by family destinations, I strongly recommend the Monastery which can be found just up the hill from the Valley of the Butterflies.

We arrived at the Doreta in the early hours and had read the reviews before hand so we were expecting the worst but were happy with our room. We were happy for the first week but after we got sick of the food. Even the smell as you were in the lift at dinner time put us off the food even more.
The head waiter was rude I thought, we called him the fat controller with his clipboard. Someone told me some other family had gone and sat at table and got their dinner and he made them pick up their dinner plates and be moved to right table.
I saw a few accidents while I was there mainly on the bridge and the slope that goes to the outside games room and a little boy cut his foot in the pool. One of the lights had broken, the glass was smashed and as he was swimming his foot got cut and the hotel apparently weren’t taking responsibility for it.
People who had glasses next to their sun beds really started to annoy me, I saw a man get out of the pool and stand on one. He was lucky he didn’t get badly hurt but the people who had left it there said I don’t know who left that there while they had 3 others next to their sun beds.
After the first week we had ants in our room on the 5th floor and they bite. My little girl kept getting bites and we’d got all the mozzies in our room then one morning I slept in her bed as I got in later than my partner and youngest and she’d slept with her dad and the next morning when I woke, I saw a trail of ants walking past my head on the bed and some were on my hand and were biting and I got lumps like mozzy bites.
The only good entertainment was a kids disco for about 45 minutes all entertainment was done by the hotel entertainment team and was pretty crappy. The only outside entertainment I saw was a Greek night, they had traditional Greek dancers in was ok first Greek night but they came back the second week too.
The pool I only saw get cleaned once in the 2 weeks I was there by the end of the second week was turning greenish in colour and under the red ledge was dark green my daughter said and if a child was to have drowned, you wouldn’t see them in the water. I was watching some kids dive in and you could barley see them through the murk.
I was talking to a lady and she had said she was in the kids pool and her little girl picked up something out the water and it was a bit of poo. I do think the staff work hard though the cleaners are there long hours and the bar staff worked hard too.
I loved the island we went to, lindos by boat and did snorkelling that was good. We saw loads of fish but be careful of rocks. On the way back we saw three dolphins swimming alongside the boat and one jumped out the water, that was amazing seeing the wild like that. We also went to the water park at Faliraki but I suggest you rent a car as we went by coach and only had about 3 hours there and as you can imagine the kids didn’t want to go when it was time.
The weather was great all holiday but I would have been happy if we’d gone for ten days, the other four days dragged a bit. We ate out quite a lot and we loved Mikeys and Dundees but Mikey was a lovely man.
I think that’s it, I can’t think of anything else to write. I hope this helps you, sorry for the essay it’s just we only got back yesterday so it’s all fresh in my mind. Oh and there were lots of peeps in football strips and if anyone’s got the kids mini disco CD there’s a few songs my daughter loved. My email address is smeggi@msn.com . If you could email me I’d appreciate it if someone could send them to me. Thanks xxxx Tara.
