AS good as ever
from flightman74
My wife and I had a two week holiday at the Tropical for the 4th time this year and w e enjoyed it as much as ever. We love the wonderful view from our room and over looking the pool. The staff are just as friendly as ever ,the place is clean, the food is good and it is in a good location but I must say that the Hotel needs a make over. The air conditioning is worn out and cannot cope with the heat,at full on all night the room is still an oven,it needs replacing. The bathroom is very old fashioned the bath is discoloured and needs to be replaced with a modern shower unit. The wash basin should be replaced with a smaller modern basin and taps, apart from that ,it's a nice place. I was glad to see there is now a new air port at Dalaman which is easy to enter with lots of space and more exray machines. A word of warning!!! Beware the horrendous prices for food or drink ( £3 for a cup of hot water with a tea bag) (£8 for a pint of beer) (£2 for a small water) you have been warned.
Not a 4 star Hotel
from mrfrazee
first impressions are important and ours was not a good one. The hotel decor is very drab with carpetng everywhere, although must admit it was very well cleaned and kept tidy. Rooms had a mini bar with prices the same as the other hotel bars....which means a bit expensive. Advise drinking out from the hotel. Room Towels were changed daily but oddly there was never a top sheet for the bed??? only bottom sheet and a cover - mattress was not the best either. We stayed 2 weeks half board and ended up eating out as the menu was very unimaginative - fresh fruit was always the same...melon or watermelon?? sometimes plums. No hot breakfast to speak of although there is a chef who cooks up omlettes. Food Hygiene is questionable as a number of guests we spoke to along with ourselves suffered from a dodgy stomach. It may have been something else causing the upsets but we all agreed it must have been the food... Hotel location was fine - on outskirts of marmaris so it was peaceful with all amenities only a short walk away. Or use the Dolmus service which is easy and cheap to get around on. the Hotel pool is probably its best feature - equal depth all over 1.5 metres with the cleanest water we have swum in - a small childrens pool is also attached with mini waterfalls. There is a beach front for the hotel which is fine and the sea is warm..All sunlounger mattresses carry a 2Lira charge. Entertainment is of the many travelling show variety - you will see the same performers in ever bar at some point during the week - male or female belly dancer, folk group, michael jackson impersonator etc... Waiters are good fun and friendly - try their best to please..... All in all we think the hotel is a 3 Star quality with 5 star prices Finally for anyone using First Choice flying from Edinburgh - then be prepared to fly 4 hours on Turkish charter flight with no entertainment...

We stayed last week 7-14th Sept 2007 and found it an exceptional hotel offering a great experience all round. Could not fault anything really from friendly staff to great food, particularly the salad buffet before main meal, the wonderful garden, the lovely pool and the location right by the beach, and the rooms were very nice and clean.
Idyllic

I have just returned from my holiday in Marmaris at the Tropical Hotel. We couldn't have picked a nicer place to spend 2 weeks relaxing. The views from the bedrooms were one of the most beautiful and breathtaking I have ever seen. The staff could not be more friendly and the hotel gounds were fantastic. You stepped out of the hotel directly on to the beach which was amazing. Myself and my sister are already making preparations to return next summer and I am hoping to go back for a week before that also. There is a great pub across the road called the Magic Garden and the staff there made our holiday so much fun. They were adorable.
Fantastic location

This hotel has a fantastic location and views. Very clean rooms. We found the food basic and repetitive, more fitting of a 3 star hotel. Waiters lovely. Think the hotel is owned by Russians and you are not allowed to buy food or drink elsewhere and bring it in, something we have encountered elsewhere in Turkey. If you are caught they will bill your room for the item!! However, a little tip is to leave the offending packaging by the lift so they don't know which room it came from. We are on holiday after all! Would not go back to hotel. Very little evening life in hotel, but plenty in area.
A great holiday

I spent a week at the Tropical Hotel, when I first saw the hotel I thought it looked a bit shabby and it is very dated but the actual hotel grounds are fab. The sea view from the balcony is amazing and the pool is great fun ! The rooms are pretty basic and the bathroom wasn't particularly nice, the ceiling had massive gaps and you could see pipes and wires hanging through ! We went halfboard and although the food wasn't very exciting it was tasty and its worthwhile going halfboard to experience the Turkish cusine as the surrounding restaurants consists mainly of tourist meals ie. pies, pasta, pizza. The hotel staff were very friendly and have a good sense of humour. There are loads of day trips on offer and we found it much cheaper to book excursions from the local travel agents in the town, they were just as reliable and it worked out half the price compared to booking it with the reps ! I would deffinately reccomend the day trip to Dalyan, although I was slightly disappointed at the mud baths its still worth going in them ! Overall the hotel was a good price and did look like it had the nicest swimming pool around the area ! There are lots of things to do in Marmaris and it was a nice relaxing holiday.
great hotel

last minute cheapy for 2 weeks on B& B. Very nice and clean good selection of food at breakfast. Very clean and spacious rooms. Good facilities and friendly staff who were eager to help. Wasn't overly enamoured with Marmaris itself as it was very commercialised compared with other places I've stayed in Turkey. Overall I love Turkey as there is so much to see and do which is why I've visited this country a few times. A visit to Pamukkale & Ephesus are a must and also a trip to a Turkish Bath, you feel so clean and relaxed afterwards. Food is great and you can get every type of cuisine possible all very cheap too. People here are very friendly and just love to sit and chat over a cup of Apple Tea of coffee. As a female traveller on my own I have never felt threatened in any way and feel safer abroad than in my home town

Friendly but dated

We stayed at the Tropical in early May just when the season is kicking off in Marmaris. The hotel is right on the edge of the resort, several kilometres from the heart of the town - either a long walk or a short trip on the dolmuses that regularly serve the main road. There are spectacular views across the bay from all rooms. The fact that it is on the edge of town is a relief if you want to avoid the noisy bars/clubs that run along the coastal strip, all with staff who will irritatingly do anything bar bundling you up with a rope to get you in. The closer you get to Marmaris town centre, the less chance you will have of getting a good night's sleep. The Tropical has friendly staff (no doubt all eager to keep the ubiquitous tip boxes full) and the pool area is a real treat. During our stay it was very quiet but a definite improvement on the beach, which is narrow and gritty. Fellow guests came from across Europe and Russia. The hotel is betraying its age, sometimes shabby and looks due for a facelift (look out for rooms where your door has a gap of several inches between it and the floor!). Our bedroom was clean and comfortable but the bathroom was tiny, dated and uncomfortable. We only ate breakfast at the hotel but that was uninspired. Food elsewhere in the resort is solely geared to the tourist, with most serving steaks, pizzas, pastas and a limited number of native Turkish dishes. All in all I would not return to Marmaris - it's far too touristy for my liking. The Tropical is officially rated four stars but I would rate it no more than a three.
Great hotel

We stayed at the Tropical hotel last year for a weeks holiday in June 2003. We really enjoyed it. We had a seaview room, which overlooked the pool. It was really stunning. Our rooms were very clean, we especially enjoyed the mini bar filled with chocolate and nuts! The tv had bbc world, and various foreign channels. The staff were very friendly, and the other hotel guests were in the main British and German. It is a beach front hotel so you can lie free of charge on the hotels stretch. It is a great location, on a main strip, which leads into the old town. The breakfast buffets were fantastic. A range of breads, rolls, cakes, cereals, toast, and something different every day, boiled eggs, omelettes made to order, french toast, etc. Waiters very nice, and always so helpful. We didn't eat dinner there, and opted to try a different place in town every night. Unfortunately most restaurants really cater for the tourists, so the food is very "British" ie Steak, pizzas, etc. But is relatively cheap, and we didn't have any disaster meals. Only thing to watch out for is the first night we ate near the harbour, and didn't ask the prices of our steaks. Very expensive- make sure prices are displayed or you ask first. We preferred the main strip for nightlife, as opposed to the old part of town near the harbour. (Less intimidating for girls) You can jump on and off the buses that go up and down the strip very regularly, for the equivalent of something like 50p. Great bars on the strip and full of tourists. We went to a restaurant called "Turkish house" which was recommended in a guide book. We went there in a taxi- and as it was dark by the time we went for our dinner, it was quite a scary ride , in what seemed like the middle of nowhere. You could sit inside or outside- watch out for the mosquitos as it is in a remote area. However the food was nice, more traditional, and the owner gave us a lift back to town in his car! Best to stick to the main town for the less adventurous! Recommend going on a boat trip, really nice lunches provided, and beautiful scenery. In all the best thing about the holiday was the hotel, safe and clean.
having stayed a week here and having had a great week i can honestly say the food and staff were brill very friendly and helpful, rooms clean and plenty of nice cooked food only had one problem ....no entertainmemt at all...which i found the evenings boring and so did... more
