we stayed at this hotel for a week the first week in may.
we found the staff to be very helpful, friendly and extremely hard working.
the room we had was a family room which was spotlessly clean and large.there were 2 single beds,tv,fridge, wardrobe and drawers in the main room and then a large seperate double bedroom.there was a bathroom which had a toilet, sink, bath and shower.we found that this room could have been bigger but it still done the job.
the views from the balcony were amazing.they overlooked the beach and sea and you could see the boats and cruise ships coming in which looked spectacular.
my daughter has a wheelchair and has autism and we found the hotel great for her.there are lifts to every floor and ramps around the hotel(though they are a little steep).
we were not that impressed by the food on the first day but the choices did seem to get better.there was always something to eat for us.there is a huge salad bar and fresh bread.there were a mixture of different main meals to chose from.some nights there were pizza, chicken, chips, mash, diced potatoes, rice, meat in sauces etc.
breakfasts were pancakes, cereal, toast, eggs, made to order omelettes, meats etc.
my daughter did struggle on a few nights but the manager and chef were more than happy to cook her something if she didn't like anything available.
overall, all the staff, including managers, were trying to please.they were often asking if all was ok with the hotel.
we found that the hotel catered for all nationalities with the main being german and british.
obviously at this time of the year the hotel was quieter and there were always sunbeds free, whether that be by the pool or on its private beach which is only a few steps away from the pool.i can imagine that this would be a different case during peak times(school holidays etc).
we would 100% return to this hotel.

Having stayed at the Tropical last...

Having stayed at the Tropical last year we had such a fantastic time that we booked again this year. We found the hotel spotlessly clean and the staff so friendly. The waiters were all amazing and went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. The food was wonderful and the views from your room were breathtaking.
Two weeks was not enough and we are considering going for 3 or 4 weeks next year.
It was sad saying goodbye to all the staff as they seemed genuinley upset as we were.
I recommend this hotel as it is situated away from the hustle and bustle of Marmaris.

Have just spent one week in the hotel...
8 / 10
May 2008, darrab

Have just spent one week in the hotel Tropikal Marmaris, it is right on the beach front so not far to wander for that much needed sea breeze.
The hotel food was excellent, the staff friendly and the location right at the end of the promonade, away from the noise and hustle, yet near enough to walk along to the many bars and restaurants etc. The towls were changed every day, bedding changed once in our week stay. We had a fantastic sea view, rooms were run of the mill, nothing too exiting the rooms could of done with a lick of paint and maybe some matching curtains - bedding. (but hey much time do you spend in there)
It has been some 5 years since i was in Marmaris, and the prices have shot up, no more cheap goods (still cheapish, but not any where near as good as it used to be)
The Turks remain the same, they hassle you none stop, wanting you to buy anything from meals to bags to gold!! It is impossible to just go and have a look at any thing in any shop as they follow you around pushing unwanted items at you every second you are in there, what a nightmare!! and for this reason i will not go back, i like to relax on holiday, and an enjoyable walk along the prom turns into a fight every time you say "No thank you, i have already had breakfast, lunch dinner or what ever"
If you are wanting ciggs do not buy them in the resort they cost on average around £20 - £23 per 200. Wait till you get to the airport where you can buy any make for arounf £16.00
Lying on the beach looking at the mountains which surround the bay is a wonderful experience, but oh the people, they are a nightmare!!
We spoke with an elderly turkish couple who informed us that English girls were easy picking for the young turkish men, are were all considered to be cheap, as they were only too keen to go with these men, so if any young English girls are reading this GET WISE.
I think i will stick with Florida, where we are guaranteed, friendly people, good prices, great food, plenty to do etc etc.
Thanks to Travel Republic for all their help everything was spot on from that angle.

I have recently returned from...
10 / 10
Jul 2007, Miss D Davies

I have recently returned from Marmaris and I had a fantastic time. The hotel was clean and comfortable with daily maid service. All rooms have a sea view which is amazing. You are right on the beach which makes it easy to swim and lie in the sun. There is a nice sized pool with sun loungers all around.
For the first few days we were unable to get sun loungers on the beach by the sea because people were going down to them at 6am. However, while we were there, the pool sun loungers were replaced and the old plastic ones were put on the beach so there were ample. The food was delicious and I am missing this now. I even bought a Turkish cookbook.
There are many excursions and I would recommend a trip to the Turkish bath and an all day boat trip. The boat trip makes regular stops for you to jump off the boat into the sea and have a swim. Lunch was included. This was booked locally near the hotel. The only thing I would mention is that you get hassled a lot. Everyone wants your money which can wear a bit thin. Also, I had my bank card details stolen at an ATM machine and £200 withdrawn. This was done by two Turkish men at the machine who were pretending to help me. So if you use a machine, please make sure no-one is around because my pin number came up on the screen!
Despite this, I would definitely return to this resort and this hotel. The staff were amazing and friendly. The Atlantis Aqua Park was fantastic. We decided to walk there on the day it reached over 50 degrees (heat wave); the nice cold water was great. The slides made both me and my sister squeal! Bar street is a must experience. We went to Crazy Daisy and to our surprise were surrounded by foam at 4am in the morning! Walking through the streets at 6am eating 'real' kebabs on the way back to the hotel, listening to the mosque calling to prayer was an experience I’ll never forget, and not to mention all the wild cats on the streets.
We would have liked to go again next year but neither Portland nor Thomson are offering this hotel again next year. In fact, they have hardly any in Turkey at all next year. We are very disappointed.

The Tropical Hotel is in an excellent...
9 / 10
Jul 2005, Ms L Owen

The Tropical Hotel is in an excellent location with the beach at the back and shops at the front. If you are looking for a holiday away from the busy nightlife in Marmaris then the Tropical is ideal. There are plenty of restaurants and bars along the sea front but no nightclubs, the flashing lights from the clubs in Marmaris can be seen across the water but not heard!
The pool was very clean and not very busy when we were there. People didn’t tend to 'book' their sunbeds although towels did start to appear around 8:00 in the morning but that was generally as people were going to breakfast and they came down to the pool shortly afterwards.
The beach is a shingle beach with plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas. The sunbeds are free but if you want a mattress it will cost 2 lira (well worth it for the comfort).
The food at the hotel was excellent but if you are expecting English food then you will be disappointed. Twice a week, at lunch time, the chef prepares a fresh fish (sea bass) BBQ which was delicious.
All the staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome.
The rooms were clean and comfortable with air conditioning, hairdryer and minibar (the minibar prices were the same as in the poolside bar).
The Tip boxes are very apparent and we did tip approx 10% each time we paid a bill.
The prices in the hotel are similar to those in the shops outside (a small bottle of water in the hotel is 1.5 lira and in the shop opposite, 1 lira) If you feel like walking to the supermarket ( 1/4 hr walk towards Marmaris) then water can be bought for .25 although it can be a bit heavy to carry back.
We booked trips with 'Nu Name Travel' there are lots of places where trips can be booked and you can negotiate prices especially if you are booking more than one.
These prices are much cheaper than with the Travel Agent. The staff at Nu Name were very friendly and gave us good deals. They also have a restaurant further along the road, which is very good. We booked the Turkish Night - very entertaining although their sound and lighting systems were unusual. A Turkish Bath - excellent value at £6.00 and a trip to Dalayan, Turtle Beach and the Mud Baths- it was a good day out but if you suffer from travel sickness, take a tablet as it is a long day and most of it is spent on a boat that does not have stabilisers.
Trips into Marmaris and Icmeler can be made easily by catching the Dolmus (minibus) you just raise your hand for them to stop and shout stop when you want to get off. It costs 1 lira (about 40p) to go to Marmaris and 1.5 to Icmeler. If you go to the market in Icmeler (on a Wednesday) you will probably end up getting a taxi as all the buses have been filled up by the time they get to the Tropical - we shared a Taxi with 2 other people from the hotel and it cost us 8 lira.
No need to take very much Turkish currency as nearly everywhere accepts pounds and euros. In the markets, all the 'bargains' were advertised in pounds and euros ( eg. 5 T shirts for £10 was a common sight)
The reason I have rated this holiday 9 was the lack of involvement from Portland (Thompson) staff. They no longer have welcome meetings and the first opportunity we had to meet anyone was the Saturday after we had arrived (Thursday) by which time we had found out all the answers to questions we had from the hotel staff and local people.
We were, however, given a welcome pack when we checked in which gave us details of trips, a map of Marmaris and some information, including a telephone number to ring if we needed to speak to a rep. My own preference would have been to have someone to direct my questions to in person.
