We will certainly be returning to Amazones Villas as it was peaceful, friendly and clean. We found it very central to all amenities.

Loved the apartments
The Amazones Villas are highly recommended, we had a two bedroom apartment which was big and roomy, kitchen a bit basic but everything worked, the gardens are lovely and well maintained and the pool is really nice, the kids loved the diving board and the slide and many hours were spent in there!! Location is great about 5 mins walk to the beach and lots of local restaurants the choice is endless, we liked Jannis Panorama restaurant and Marias Golden Beach, but there is so much choice to suit everyone! The staff at the Amazones are great really friendly and obliging, Marianne was great and made us feel very welcome, Wouldn't hesitate in recommending a visit there and would definitely go back there again.
Enjoyed our stay at the Amazones/resort of Stalis
I went with a group of friends, we all had a great time within the complex and also the surrounding area. The apartments were spacious and clean, but as mentioned on the previous review there was not enough toilet roll or changing of towels. The pool area had plenty of sunbeds and the snack bar food was nice and prepared freshly by Lucas. The staff were very friendly and approachable especially Marcello and Lucas. Although near the end of the resort of Stalis there was plenty of places to eat and take in the views, there was building work and new apartments being built which will look over the sea. We ate at a few places over the week but the best was Maria's, we all participated in Greek dancing and smashing of plates, the food was lovely and the staff were friendly. Overall I would recommend the apartments and resort, but if you don't want to walk even though only about 10 mins to strip there were plenty of other lovely apartments and people are very friendly.
Enjoyable holiday
We've just returned from the Amazones Apartments and had an enjoyable holiday. As all the other reviews report, everyone is very friendly, particularly Marcello and Lucas, although it felt faked by some. The apartment was clean enough although we would have preferred to have the towels changed more frequently and more toilet paper provided - two rolls for a week??!! Maid service was only 5 days a week instead of the widely-advertised 6 which meant the loo-roll bin went unempited from Friday to Monday. The kitchen facilities are good - toaster, microwave and kettle as well as the usual 2-ring hob and fridge makes a real difference. Good bar and selection of drinks, good quality of food at the snack bar and good pool area with just the right amount of sunbeds and umbrellas. We found the location good although some may find it a little too far to walk into the main resort of Stalis. The beach improved the further you got into Stalis but wasn't great at the end where the apartments are.
Superb holiday
Just returned from a fantastic holiday at the amazones villas. I have never met some many nice people in one place. Marcelo the new barman was fantastic, great fun and always up for a laugh. The rooms were very spacious and had good fascilities. It was only a 2 min walk to the sea front, but about 10 mins to the nearest beach. Our Fave restaurant was MAISTRALIS, owned by Billy the greek. Which was a two min walk from the apartments facing the sea front. Big hello to robin, susan and ket from wales. Paul, Becky and Mauren
Superb Apartments
The apartment we stayed in(102) was clean and spacious and maid service was very good. The staff(Lee and Mariana)were very friendly and helpful. The resort was pretty quiet at the time we were there but most bars and restaurants were open.Lee was the difference between the holiday being ordinary and memorable as he was always there with a laugh and a joke.Hello to nidge and family (the tatooist from stoke) who had always got a story to tell. Will definitely go back to amazones probably in 2009 and hope to see Lee,marianna and the rest. 10/10+.Steve and Julie from Sheffield
Fantastic people - so friendly!
Arrived at the Amazones late on a Thursday evening, was a little disspaointed at first but this was due to the young louts on the coach shouting "nice pool". Pool looked a bit smaller from a long view but when we used it the next day it was PERFECT. Right size, right temperature and it didn't get too busy throughout the whole of our stay. Dimitri (owner), Jo (receptionist), Marianne (pool bar) and Lee (night bar) made you all feel SO welcome and I couldn't say a bad word about how they made us feel during my boyfriend and I's stay there. Apart from Dimitri giving me a red card during the weekly - how rude and I didn't even swear haha! There is plenty to do in the evenings if you want a quiet and peaceful holiday, we would definitely recommend "Maria's Golden Beach" resturant, food is fantastic and prices are brilliant. Just sorry we didn't discovered it til our 10th day. You can walk further down the strip to the more livelier parts but you will need a taxi if you fancy the Malia life for the evening. Apartments are kept clean and tidy, the maids are very good there. The only thing that we could say that was not so good was the fact you have no cleaner at the weekend so the toilet bin is left for two days. But I wouldn't say this was a bad thing just not one of their finer points haha. Supermarkets are plentiful and reasonable priced so not too much of a walk. We met some lovely people there, hello to families from Norwich and Sheffield if you are reading this. Overall, we had a fantastic stay at Amazones Cillas and we would definitely venture back there if we considered Crete again (never the same place twice and all that). So if you are considering these villas, please go you will not be dissapointed.
Wicked holiday!
My friend and I booked a week's self catering holiday via Portland at the Amazones Villas in Stalis. We'd normally prefer a resort like Malia, but wanted a chilled relaxing week to celebrate my friend's 30th birthday. The flight times were great and we flew with Thomson fly, which i'd definitely recommend. The seats were spacious and the food was really nice. We had no delays and landed slightly early on the way there and back. The apartment was really clean, spacious and had everything we needed. The beds were comfortable and it was great to have a decent hairdryer already in the room! We didn't spend much time at the hotel as we prefer the beach, but when we were there we found the staff really friendly and helpful. Only downfalls I'd say were that you had to pay 50 cents for a lounger at the pool, not much I know but I've never had to pay in my own hotel before, and i also got asked not to bring my own water to the pool again, which i thought was a bit silly. The beach was a 5 minute walk away and on the first couple of days we were paying €6 per day for 2 loungers and an umbrella, but found out a couple of days later that if you walk further down the strip you can get the same on a better bit of beach for €3. The sea here is wicked, really wavy and not too cold. The evenings were the best in Stalis. We ate in a restaurant called Maria's Golden Beach on the first night and loved it so much that we ended up there everyday of the holiday! The food was excellent and the waiters really friendly. they got us up greek dancing and plate smashing which was embarrassing but funny. Our meals here never reached €30, which was great as we always had wine with dinner. Later in the evening we'd walk down the strip a little further to where the bars were. Rhythm bar and Seacrets were excellent. Quieter earlier in the evening, and then loud, busier and drunken from about 1am til 5am. We loved them both and became friendly with all the people that worked there. So much for a quiet chilled holiday, I think the earliest night we had was about 2am. Malia is of course only half an hour away if you're into those sort of holidays, but we had so much fun in Stalis, that we kept putting off our 'one night of partying' there and in the end gave up on the idea altogether. Weather wise, is was pleasant but I'd prefer it a little hotter. the first couple of days were really warm and sunny, but the last few were quiet cloudy and when the sun disappeared behind clouds it got a little chilly. Overall we had the best time and will definitely be going back next year.
OK
first week had a few problems well it had just re opened but all were put right and no problems in the second week would not mind going back there again can recommend this proerty to all
enjoyed a week at the Amazones Villas
Have just returned from a weeks stay at the Amazones Villas. The apartments are situated at one end of Stalis, in a quiet setting, away from the main centre yet only 5 mins walk. The beach is the same distance. The staff at the apartments are amongst the friendliest we have met, even seeing us to our bus to say goodbye. The apartments are clean and well equipped. The only minus we found is that although they were shown as having air conditioning when we arrived we were asked to pay 5 euros a day for it if we wanted it turned on!! The maid visits daily to clean and the staff all spoke excellent english. Would recommend these apartments to anyone.
Fantastic Apts
Amazones Villas in Stalis Crete. We chose these apts purely from the great comments on another site. It was our most expensive Greek hol yet as the only travel co you can book them through is Portland. However the flight times through Portland were very good as normally Crete flight times are very early morning and when you have to be out of the apts by 10am (as all greek apts) the long wait for a 2am coach pickup can be very tiring! Our first impression of Amazones Villas was the nice layout of the pool area and bar area down the slope. The apts were better than the usual greek apts! They were very very clean, spacious and the brand spanking new bathroom had just been fully refurbished to an excellent standard. The kitchen (not that we used it) had all you would need for self catering i.e Kettle, toaster, microwave, hobs, big fridge freezer and a good supply of kitchenware. The wardrobes in the bedroom were basic (no draws) but these are to be refurbished this winter in all the apts.(also the pool area is to be expanded) The beds were comfortable. The bedroom even had a hairdryer!! The loo rolls were replaced when ran out and the sheets and towels were changed twice a week. The room was cleaned excellently 6 days a week except Sundays and the beds were made etc. We were very impressed with the friendly, efficient cleaning staff. The only very slight downside (if you can even call it that!!) was the view, the apts were behind another apt which blocked the lovely sea view. One thing you must be aware of is you will need mosi protection from the first nite!! We got bitten over 30 times in the first nite as we forgot to put the mosi plugin’s in. Once the plugin’s were on, we didn’t get bitten at all. You will also need mosi protection for the evenings for your skin! Amazones is in a good area, a five minute stroll to the start of Stalis's main strip and the start of the beach. Quiet at night. Onsite there is a great bar and seating area, Internet cafe, pool with snack bar and reception manned all day and night where you can change money and hire safety boxes etc. We got to know most of the guests staying and all were friendly. We met a great family Steve, Nicki, Aidan, Lewis and Crystal who were got on with straight way. Spent many great afternoons for after beach drinkies at the bar!! Only two rounds though or was it 3??!!! But the absolute best thing about these apts is the owner Dimitris, his family and all of his staff. They were all fantastic! They were all so welcoming and friendly and treated you as old friends. We felt at home straight away. Dimitris and his fiance Litza (sorry if spelt wrong!) are great . We were really delighted to experience two "real" greek evenings with them which in the 9 years we have been visiting the Greek Islands, we have never experienced before. Watch out for Dimitris’s homebrew Raki though!!! (It's only meant to be sipped!!!!ooops !!) Excellent service from the snack bar( Dragon), reception (Christine) and especially the bar service from Emma. You would never go without a drink or be lonely with Em around! She made us feel very welcome. Can you guess where we spent most of our evenings after dinner!!!!!! And not forgetting the gorgeous Max (the family dog) He’s very intelligent as even though there are a lot of strangers staying at the apts, Max would only bark at any reps or delivery people but loved the residents! Dimitris hosts entertainment evenings on various nites, Singing bingo, Pool competitions, Quiz nites and BBQ with greek dancing lessons. Not to be missed as they all are a great laugh esp the Quiz nite and the BBQ. Dimitris and Litza were fantastic to watch when they did the greek dancing on their own. Made us all look as if we have two left feet!!! There is a supermarket next door to the apts but the ones in Stalis high street are cheaper! Stalis is a long road that leads into Malia. It would take about an hours stroll to reach the end of Stalis. There are a lot of restaurants at the Amazones end and al the meals we had were great. Our best restaurant was the Golden beach. We went there every day for a lovely breakfast and there is a fantastic atmosphere in the evening where they smash plates, excellent food and fun etc. Alex and Costas two of the waiters have worked together for years and are a great laugh. Other restaurants we liked are Roma, and the nearest one to Amazones, the romantic corner. There weren’t a lot of music bars in the strip nearest Amazones but we only managed to walk down about half of the road so there could be more further on. The beach is a nice sandy strip. The sun beds vary in cost from 3 Euros to 6 euros for two beds and a brolly. Overall a fantastic holiday and staying at the Amazones Villas made it perfect. No question – you will not be disappointed staying there. It’s the fist place we will be going back to (next year hopefully)
