If your idea of a good holiday is being in a hotel with loads of Brits, then don't book the El Greco, as there is a huge mix of nationalities, but when we were there mainly Eastern European and German. If however you are open minded enough to actually mix with foreigners... more

The hotel facilities and food here were excellent, location right by the sea with loungers available for use by guests. There was a well-maintained swimming pool with eating facilities nearby and in addition several other small plunge pools. We travelled with Portland but... more

never again
thomson 5T possibly - 3 star anywhere else staff superb food good but never changes much eating times are like a rugby scrum kids everywhere with hot tea and soup etc passing over their heads, dangerous bed broke first night no sleep-repaired bed broke second night no sleep-repaired bed changed third night beds are like concrete, second mattress supplied sea water pools ok-but hard on the eyes entertainment is rubbish; syncronised swimming, caberet mimed by the staff, stupid jugglers, kids entertainment other nights. only found 3 other couples that spoke english, hotel is geared up for europeans ( germans poles etc) never been away before and hardly spoke a word, they all seemed friendly but no conversation. kids everywhere- i would never use this hotel again
A friendly, relaxed hotel
Having just returned from a 2 week holiday in El Greco, myself and my husband wanted to say what a lovely time we had and to recommend it to others. The staff and entertainment team in particular, are brilliant. They work extremely hard and were genuinely friendly to all guests. The only thing against the hotel is its remote location. Although the town is only a bus ride away, it's worth a mention as it could put people off. As for us, we had a relaxing break and will be sure to visit another hotel in the Grecotel chain in the future.
Simply the best
The El Greco is a suberb hotel. It has the very highest standards of cleanliness. The staff are always friendly and helpful and the food is just wonderful! The only downside to the hotel is its lack of indoor pool ( we had two days of rain and families would have enjoyed an indoor facillity). We really feel as if we have had two weeks of absolute pampering. Thank you El Greco.
Sixth Visit
This was our sixth visit to the ElGreco, a wonderful Hotel with helpful and welcoming staff. Any family with young children will be assured of a great holiday
Excellent hotel, friendly and efficient staff
Just returned from 2 week stay at this hotel in June 2005. Hotel decor a little understated, not the usual glitzy appeal, but don't let this fool you. Staff are excellent, nothing is too much trouble. Food is very cosmopolitan and quite good, though sometimes a little to salty for my palate. Hotel is right on a small sandy shingly beach, bit hot underfoot with a few sunbeds and umbrellas. Main pool does tend to be a bit noisy during day, but there are sun terraces to escape from this, providing you get your towel out early enough!! Excellent self service restaurant for lunchtime, reasonably priced with good choice of salads or hot meals. On bus route to Reythmnon, about 25 minutes drive away. Otherwise nothing worth a mention in the immediate vicinity, so if not a beach babe hire a car.
El Greco Delights
We ( my partner and two children aged 4ys and 10mth little girl) have just returned from the El Greco, and have to say we had a lovely holiday. The hotel is much bigger than expected, holding about 1000 rooms. Only draw back was we had a long walk from the room to the restaurants, reception and evening entertainment, but kept off the pounds we put on with all those deserts! Food was good with lots of choice but be warned they like their sea salt on everything! They were happy to puree food for baby, but watch salt content! Also no kettle in room for hot water for baby bottles, had to ask everynight to get a thermos filled. They also had a " tasty corner" where children ate free all day, and free ice creams for them too. Staff were very friendly but busy! Evening entertainment was however something of a bizarre show. The childrens reps doubled up as showmen and women nearly everynight, with shows mostly in german or mime and quite strange, however they tried so hard to please, it is hard to knock them. You can walk to other places at night if you wanted to, although the town is a good 20min taxi ride at 8 euros. We had a fab room requesting a sea view, we were on ground floor and from the room we had a grass patio with our own sunchairs on, then a massive pool and then the beach! The beach was somewhat narrow, but nice and clean, as were the rooms and hotel. On the hole we were pleased with our choice, and a visit to little "venice" Chania is well worth it if you like sophisticated shopping, as is rethymynon.
Wonderful Hotel
I have just spent two wonderful weeks here enjoying the sun, scenery and one of the best hotels we have ever spent time in. You are not short of experiencing a stay in a Sandals Resort hotel trust me! The rooms are of a very high standard and the restuarant follows in the same fashion. I did not meet anybody who was not highly pleased with their choice of hotel. Truly excellent.
Marvellous staff
We stayed a week at this lovely hotel and wanted more. The staff were wonderful and friendly, they made our holiday. The position next to the beach was ideal, and food and cleanliness get top marks. The only things they could improve upon are the evening entertainment and the location in relation to the town, but these were minor issues as the hotel itself was so great.
Typicfal Grecotel Standards
This was our second visit to a GRECOTEL having stayed at one of the hotels in Corfu the previous year. The El Greco is situated on the beach and a simple Bus Ride away from the Rethiminon. The Buffet Style food was good although much of the dining is inside as opposed to outside. The quality is impressive and the service is second to none. Nothing is too much trouble. We stayed in the ' Main Building ' and regret not having booked one of the Bungalows which are near the ocean and have Private pools for Bungalow residents. Its very expensive and we took advantage of the Tavernas which were found just outside of the Hotel for our Lunch and evening drinks - much cheaper and excellent quality. The evening entertainment is poor with everything shutting down at about 10.30. The Bus Services are excellent and we travelled into the near by resorts and towns with ease. We took advantage of the ROAD TRAIN which takes you on 4 hour trips to local sites of interest for just 15 Euros ( much better value than the local Tour Operators offerings ) . The facilities are excellent for children - there were a lot of them there which spoiled our holiday a little ( we were looking for a bit of piece and quiet ) . In conclusion, the Hotel is good - we looked at the Rethiminon Beach Hotel which is nearby, run by the same group which is far superior and has more facilities ( Gym , Indoor pool etc ) . We will continue with the GRECOTEL brand but not return to this hotel.
Best hotel in Crete
This is one of the finest hotels I have ever visited, the staff are excelent and location first class. I have been twice to the hotel and am planning a third visit
