" Beware of the scam !!!!!!! "
Submitted By: tiddlyOn arrival at our new apartment Romantic in Bitez Emre and his friend dumped us at the location and left us to staff at Romantic to get us to our rooms. At around 4am we all got to sleep only to woken at 0645hrs with a male standing at the end of our bed robbing us of our money and mobile phone.
I attempted to contact Emre about this asap where i told by him that he could not attend until the afternoon.
We was told on numerous occasions by Emre that our rooms would take 3 days but after about ten days we were no further forward and remained at the Romantic Apartment for the whole duration in the end !!
On speaking to other holiday makers and at least a further five parties at the Romantic they stated the same as we did that Emre stated to them that rooms was not available due to faults and that a wall had been knocked down in one of them and that they would be back at the Siesta Beach Apartments in 3 days, this never materialised for any of them !!
I firmly believe that the Siesta Beach Apartments had over booked and did not have the rooms for us or any of the other parties which ended up at the Romantic. The holiday just turned into a nightmare from the moment we arrived in Gumbet, then getting burgled and then being told on numerous occasions we would be back the Siesta in 3 days which never happened.
***** just beware incase you turn up at the Siesta Beach Apartments in the early hours and then being told the rooms are faulty and you will be going elsewhere !!!!!!
Advice: Gumbet is a lively place but beware of the scam at the Siesta Beach Apartments !!!
Activities: Boat trip in Bitez
" Perfect Family Holiday "
Submitted By: SeraphelleHowever, the staff were amazingly friendly and showed us to our room immediately as we had two very tired children with us (our daughters are ages 4 and 2). Our room was number 1422 and was beautiful. It was up a flight of steps and down a path covered by overhead flowers, and all doors are set bath from the path slightly to prevent those walking by from disturbing you. The apartment was of a good size, very modern and just a quick pop to reception and payment of 40 Lira sorted Air Conditioning our for us for the whole weeks stay. We had a balcony and upon opening the balcony door we could hear the music from the bar, but not to the extent where it kept us awake so we were happy.
The only drawback was the heat (which obviously has no bearing upon the hotel or its staff), I know that sounds ridiculous, but it was so hot the children just couldn't sleep (it was 54-59 degrees most days), so I would highly recommend (if you stay in July / Aug and have young children) to take an electric fan with you or try and purchase one while you're there. Once we'd got hold of one the following day it was plain sailing from then on.
We ate at the hotel a couple of times and found the prices pretty reasonable compared with the rest of Gumbet, and the staff really are the friendliest I have ever come across in any country.
Both the pools at the hotel were beautiful and well maintained, as were all the grounds. The staff were amazing, not just with the young single women there on girly holidays, but with the children too. One member of staff even helped teach my 4 yr old to learn to swim. They also try and get games of water polo going and get the children playing together. There are small splash pools for wee ones too which my kids loved playing in when not tiring us out in the main pools.
The top pool bar is much quieter on the evenings, whereas the bottom bar is very lively and often has special events such as a fire-eater, russian dancers, turkish night, belly dancers and so on. The do pints of the local lager (Efes...like a very wheaty pilsner and delicious) for 4Lira I think it was, and many many many cocktails and other drinks including kids alcohol free cocktails, but again many places are cheaper and if you fancy a quiet night but still want a drink, the shop just down the road from the hotel by the Calypso Cafe sell cans of Efes for 2.75 Lira as opposed to the hotel shop which sells them for 4 Lira.
The Turkish Bath onsite I'm told is more expensive than others on the resort, but to be honest I'd have paid twice what I did for the experience. It was absolutely amazing and I urge everyone to try one while they are there, you will not regret it.
General tips would be;
1. The apartment keys come with an activation key for the electric in the apartment, so obviously the electric (and air conditioning) will only be on whilst you are in the apartment. If you want to keep the bedroom cool for your return, simply take the activation key off the keyring and leave it in the slot when you go out.
2. The maid WILL come in, so if you don't want her to see anything she shouldn't, then either don't be in the apartment, or answer the door quickly when she knocks. My children were snoozing one afternoon after tiring themself out in the pool all morning, my husband was in the shower so I decided to indulge in a little topless sunbathing on the balcony (which nobody could see by the way- another plus of the place is you feel very contained and have privacy). I heard the door knock but didn't want to yell out in case I woke the children, I was just fastening my bikini top back up and heading towards the door when the maid walked in...so you have been warned!!! :-)
3. Don't stop and talk to the people that try and give you 'free' friendship bracelets or roses on the beach path along the bay to the town centre from the hotel. Yes they are giving you them for free, but then ask you for a tip and get fairly aggressive about it. Luckily we saw this happen to someone else so knew to just say 'No thanks' as soon as they came near us!
4. Bartering; this is key. You very rarely pay the price you see in Gumbet, and they expect you to haggle. A prime example is the handbag shops, I was looking around on my last day for a bag but only had around 30 Lira left, I was told a purple bag I had my eye on was 90 Lira...I said 'I don't have enough sorry' and kept saying it and kept saying it...eventually was told I could have it for 20 Lira...less than a quarter of the original price. So always barter with them. This goes too for restaurants, they will try and call you in and offer you all sorts...I think during our whole stay the most expensive meal for all 4 of us was 86 Lira which works out to about £39. Thats including desserts for the kids and beer for us. Most places will let the kids eat for free and lots will give the grown ups free garlic bread or do set meals with starter, main, dessert and bottle of wine for 25 Lira.
5. Trips; try not to book through your rep, they will charge above and beyond for trips when there are Excursion Shops all up and down Bar Street (which is exactly as it sounds LOL). If you have chance to go on a boat trip, then do so, you will NOT be disappointed.
6. The beach is literally over the road from the hotel, as in, walk down path from hotel reception, cross the road, step onto sand. The water is warm and clear and the hotel keep their section of beach spotless, much cleaner than some other sections we saw.
Pros would be the hotel and staff; the place is just stunning and the staff are amazingly friendly and will do their best to help in any way they can. The hotel itself is close to shops, just a 10 minute walk along the beach path to restaurants and bars, and the bus (dolmus) stops right outside, and the taxi rank is just across the street and along slightly. The resort of Gumbet itself is beautiful, excellent amenities, plenty of chemists and grocery stores for all your self-catering needs and any medical issues you may have (my youngest daughter developed an eye infection on our first day and just 3 days of eye drops from the chemist sorted it right out).
Cons would be the conmen that patrol the beach path at night, and the prices charged in the hotel shop which seem to also vary from day to day in a very dubious fashion. But both these are easily remedied- just ignore the conmen and only shop and the store in the hotel next door (which is accessible from by the Siesta's steps) or better yet the shop just a few minutes along the road.
**Bodrum airport is shockingly expensive, so when you go there for your flight home pack any snacks or drinks in your hand luggage. 1 can of diet coke and 1 bottle of mineral water cost 18 Lira at the airport, which is approx £8.20!!!!**
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this resort and specifically this hotel to anyone. This was our first foreign holiday as a family since we have had the children and aside from the minor glitches mentioned above (conmen, expensive hotel shop and flashing the maid!) it was absolute bliss and couldn't have been more perfect, our children even cried on the coach to the airport as they didn't want to leave. We shall most definitely go back.
Advice: Don't fall for the free bracelets and roses, and do barter for goods and deals when dining out!

" Great choice at siesta "
Submitted By: niggleThe bar staff and entertainment staff were excellent and being a rugby supporter they even went out of their to make sure i could watch the british lions rugby whilst other pre organised entertainment was on.
They only lost a point from me because of the hotel shop in reception where i get the feeling you get ripped off a bit......correction alot by the guys in reception who seem to make up their own prices. We used the shop in the reception next door where prices were marked and very reasonable.
But I would definitely recommend the siesta beach to anyone who is looking for a great fun cheerful holiday.
The Windy Bay along the beachfront footpath is a great place to eat, and I agree with previous recommendations to eat there.

Back wall was below ground level so only doors/windows were in front wall, which meant no cross-ventilation; studio layout, bathroom plus one large bed sitting room.
Air conditioning was a GBP35 extra per week but although warm, weather not hot enough to justify it.
Staff totally friendly & helpful, facilities OK; but putting middle-aged guests close to deafening disco playing until 02:00 was a bit thoughtless!
Now, the bad stuff- Mosquitos! Sleeping with door open for fresh air we noticed no insect screen fitted, though window had one.
Two of us were SAVAGED as per attached photo, yet I escaped bite-free (?). This happened on the 4th night & we should have asked to be moved to a better room but thought it too much bother; so perhaps we should share the blame... the room was very basic & should have had a few things like tea towels but it was very cheap so too much complaining is not justified.
Next door at the Tropicana (sister hotel) we were welcomed to use their facilities, which were much better and that establishment caters for the more mature guest (those who hate techno/rap/grunge/etc!) so if returning I would try that place...
Advice: Gumbet is a bit quieter than Bodrum but still the hassle from street vendors gets wearing.
