Sep 2006, Miss A Collings

I have been to turkey a few times and had forgotten why I used to love it, well I was definitely reminded!! My boyfriend and I booked on the Friday and left on the Sunday and it was the best place we could have had! I have read all these comments and can’t believe how they are not all 10/10. My holiday was fantastic.

How the bar staff do it (bottom bar) the hours they work yet they are always so so so happy. The staff made the holiday for me. The music was loud but hey your on holiday just has fun.
The rooms I felt were fine, the beds were so comfortable and they were cleaned everyday.
I also found that even the people staying here were so friendly it must have rubbed off from the Turkish, I met great people that you wouldn’t normally.
I had their breakfasts nearly every morning and found that they were really good value for money. I got back this morning after having no sleep but all I can think about is when can I go back there.
If you want a fantastic holiday and meet loads of great people then you have to go here!

Sep 2006,  Aimee

We were 4 women between the ages of 22-75 so there was an age gap but every single 1 of us thoroughly loved it and didn’t want to come home. Well what can I say this is the 2nd time we have visited these apartments the first time at the top and the 2nd at the bottom both were absolutely brilliant but much more of a laugh at the bottom. The people who work here are absolutely brilliant they will do anything for you. From the cleaners to the chefs and the staff behind the bar and waiters.
It is very clean the cleaners come in and clean your room everyday and are really friendly. The boys behind the bar Muzzy, Ozzy, JayZee, Niko were all excellent I dont know how they manage it seems like they work 24 hrs a day. But the most helpful of all were Imdat and Hidair who work in the restaurant they are absolute stars.
This is a holiday that I feel everyone would enjoy as long as you like to join in and have a laugh.
Excellent holiday C-ya next year

This was Amazing! Loved the loud music! Music was so loud and the Party was just going on and on and on and the dolphin bar was ace and loved lying in my bed drunk listening to the music at 4am! It was so good!
I only noticed once that the music was on late cause I never really came in till 9am! The staff were Brill! Would definitely go back and hopefully going back in October.

Aug 2006, Miss C Williams

I have just come back from a week in Gumbet at the Siesta Beach Apartments (an alright looking girl, single and all by herself).
I stayed in the studios near the pool. Rooms were okay liveable. Definitely recommend that you get air con. Whilst I was out, it was 45 degrees in the shade!!
I had fantastic time, the team at the upper section of the hotel are the most friendliest funniest guys ever. They make you feel soo welcome and always make sure you’re alright. This was my first holiday on my own (it did not take me long at all to make friends!) and I had a great time out with them.
I will never hesitate booking a holiday out on my own again - truly and experienced that should not be shyed away from by anyone.
Missing you already Joe, Ata, Ozzi and the rest of you - hope to see you again soon! xx

Siesta Beach Apartments were better...
8 / 10
Aug 2006, Mr M Nelson

Siesta Beach Apartments were better than earlier reviews led me to expect. We had an apartment just behind the reception/shop and opposite the lower bar. I took earplugs and they were sufficient to allow a good night's sleep even though the music continued loudly until after 2 a.m. We were in Room 111, which has been singled out for criticism here. It was a bit smelly outside the room, but the apartment was fine, and the place generally clean and regularly swabbed down. Self-catering is not a realistic prospect, as facilities are minimal- hotplate, kettle and fridge - take a coffee or tea "kit" with you.
The place is extremely friendly, and the staff, Brave Leon (yes, that's his name) in particular, made real efforts to make everyone feel welcome. Most guests were British families, but you wouldn't go to Gumbet for an authentic Turkish experience. My two teenage daughters loved it. I would guess the place has got their act together since last year.
Local restaurants - Cafe de Columbia was excellent, good juicy steaks and grilled chicken; Smiley's in the centre of town should be avoided - I was given meatballs purchased frozen from a supermarket (they confessed!). On the seafront, have the Turkish ice cream from barrels sitting next to the usual 50 flavours. Bodrum is better for shopping, and you can eat at one of the restaurants backing onto the beach and watch the sun go down and the moon come up. If you fancy a water-pipe, go to the rooftop bar called Asian Cafe Bar at Adnan Menderes Cad. and have a smoke under the stars.

The Siesta Beach Apartments are the...

Aug 2006, FRANKSTER

The Siesta Beach Apartments are the best in Gumbet. They are in a quieter area of Gumbet but only a 5 min walk to Bar Street and all the other restaurants and bars. The apartments are very clean and rooms cleaned every day with fresh towels. The restaurant and bar staff at the bottom pool are just too good to be true they gave us brilliant service and always joined in with fun and hopefully they will all be there next year! The food at the Siesta is amazing value for money and lovely.
A couple of hotels down from the Siesta there is a bar called the Calypso Bar/restaurant, where you get a lovely meal served by Crazy Joe and drinks served by Moses and Emre, its a brilliant night out and they have free pool table and darts and a free bouncy castle and swings which is great for the kids. Most of the restaurants offer free kids meals and free bottle of wine for instance 3 adult meals and 1 kids meal with wine cost us about £25 and that’s steak meals.
Another place to eat is Cafe de Colombo where a set 3 course meal with a bottle of wine was £8. We always do a boat trip with stops to swim in the sea and they usually include dinner on the boat to. The Siesta boat trip cost us £30 for 4 people with dinner and it’s a full day out. Its just a brilliant holiday next year will be our 3rd year at the Siesta is well worth a try.

Aug 2006, Mr B King

Apartment was dark and smelled horrible if you left the bathroom door open. The kitchen window faced a brick wall which made it very dingy.
Two of our own towels went missing from the room. The noise was excessive at night from the lower bar till 4 am. So room 101 should be put out of service. That’s the bad bits.
Pools nice, bar staff great fun, food ok, it's just poor apartments on the lower level which spoil your holiday.

Having read the reviews about siesta...

Aug 2006, Ms N Meinen

Having read the reviews about siesta beach I had a few concerns about the loud music, yes it is quite loud but once you are in your room with the windows shut it's not to bad. We were in the rooms they call the dungeons. They are below the pool level, they are also the only rooms still to be modernized. Not much in the way of cooking facilities, but we never ate in we ate out all the time. You also have to pay for the air conditioning.
The two pools are lovely, great views from the top bar at night. Beautiful. The top bar was more relaxed than the Dolphin bar at the bottom. We had a blast at the Dolphin bar. The guys were just amazing, they really made sure you had a great time. Never thought I'd see the day that I was dancing on a bar, but sure enough I was.
We had the most amazing time and wouldn't hesitate in going back.

After reading these reviews I...
4 / 10
Aug 2006, Mr G Walton

After reading these reviews I honestly thought I was in for a treat. How wrong was I?
We were given a room below ground level which absolutely reeked of some horrible foisty smell. The room was huge, but like a cave. No balcony, just a little patio that barely got any sun. The lock on the patio door which we had to use when entering, looked like the worst DIY known to man. Each time you wanted to go in or out it would take about 2/3 mins to get it to lock/open. There was no proper lighting, just some lamps that didn't work and a couple of bulbs above 2 mirrors which hardly let off any light at all. The loud buzz of the prehistoric fridge kept us awake for most of the first night. I promised my girlfriend we would get this changed ASAP as the smell more than anything was unbearable.
I saw the rep the following day and the room was changed with no fuss (Although the bloke on the desk was a little off with my girlfriend when changing the keys). I thought we would get a nice room above ground level, but no we were shifted 4 doors along. Gutted. The room was much, much smaller, but still cave like. Poor lighting and furnishings that were falling apart. But the smell had gone, or so we thought. We hung our clothes up in the wardrobe provided and when we came to get them out, they stunk of the foisty smell. The cupboards around the sink, upon opening, stunk basically. The wardrobe also did when you stuck your head in.
We tried to get on and enjoy our holiday, accepting that were unlucky in our choice of hotel but then one night the key could not work in the lock. I went to see reception and the bloke’s response was “see security”. So I did (the security guard looked just like one of those young rose sellers pestering people on the beach but in this smart blue uniform). He tried for about 5 minutes with no joy. We were locked out. The Security bloke thought it was hilarious. He was ok though so we laughed along, it was not his fault. After he gave up I thought I’d have another go. I pulled the key out and it felt into 2 pieces. Great! I took the key up to reception again. The bloke looked very annoyed. I asked for another key and suggested they change the lock. He then proceeded to tell me there was no other key but the skeleton key which I could not have. I was told the Security is excellent and it didn’t matter if my door was locked or not. After kicking up a little bit of a stink the reception bloke miraculously pulled out a key with room 507 written on it! After another 2 minute struggle the door was open.

On our second last day we asked if we could keep our room, or any room (at a cost of £15) on our departure day as our flight was late and check out was midday, just so we had somewhere to get changed. We were told “no we are full, you can use the shower by the pool”. The shower by the pool didn’t have a shower head on so it was just like a hose. We were speaking with another couple we were friends with on holiday and they were saying that they were offered to keep their room on the day of their departure! They also told us that the electrics in their room were off 50% of the time and that twice though the week mud was coming out of the shower! The poor lady was covered in mud and had to shower by the pool until their shower was fixed! And this happened twice! So maybe they had it a lot worse than my girlfriend and I!
The advert for the hotel said it had its own private beach. It does but they charge you 8 Lira to stay on it. Surely if you are staying in the hotel it should be free?!
Finally some positives:
The two pools at the hotel were decent. As too were the pool bars. It was very safe for kids and everybody always seemed to be having a good time. They had games of water polo going on to keep people entertained. The staff at the two bars seemed to be very good with younger children but seemed a bit too interested in the teenage girls!
Drinks at the hotel were reasonably priced. Expect to pay around 4 lira (£1.50 at the time) for a pint of Efes which is good value.
To sum it up, we expected a lot more from this hotel and left disappointed in our choice. When we return to Gumbet we will definitely be staying at the Jasmin Beach hotel just 2 buildings along from the hotel. We stayed there in June and it is simply a cut above this below average accommodation.

Aug 2006, Ms E Redpath

We stayed at the Siesta Beach and as a party of 20 people of mixed ages we really enjoyed it. Good fun at poolside and enjoyed some of the entertainment put on by them, the staff were friendly but a bit over the top sometimes. The music was good from the bar but far too loud, you couldn't talk. Food was ok but not fantastic. For trips try the camel beach boat trip, a good day out and value for money. For water sports look out for Sandy on the beach nearby. We didn't think much of the water park, not much in the way of shade especially with youngsters in the group.
We found a really good bar and restaurant just steps away from the Siesta, just along the road next to the Jasmin and opposite the local taxi rank. It's called the Calypso. Their evening meals were fantastic and the Sunday roast just like home. Good atmosphere and very friendly. Tried other restaurants but always ended up back at the Calypso and the prices were much better than the hotel. We recommend you try it and say hello to Crazy Joe, Paul, Cathy and the boys.
Watch out for meal deals in the bars and rests. You get what you pay for which is less for your money (they always add extras). We will definitely go back to the Siesta as its a really great place to stay and by the way try out their Turkish bath, you can have it exclusive to your family and at a cheaper price than the other ones around the resort. We did and loved every minute of it.

Aug 2006, Not Specified

What can I say, positive first. The apartment we had was brilliant, clean, quiet, cool (air/con). The food we had in every restaurant including the apartments one was very good to excellent. (the Istanbul Kebab in the Aloha is a gut buster). Met some lovely people. But only go to these apartments if you are into R&B and Gangster rap music, as it is played at club level volume from 10.30 in the morning until 2 - 3am the following morning in the Dolphin bar (even if there are only five people at the bar.)This music was also uncensored and contained explicit language, not that I am a prude but kids were around, we just felt it was unnecessary.
As it was our first time in Turkey I am afraid to say we are bit reluctant to go back as they do like loud music. I love to dance and Karaoke as much as the next party animal but you really do need to recover during the day. It seemed that all the barman were frustrated DJ's and were obviously working in the wrong place. Another thing that puzzled me was that there was only 6 teenagers around the pool at any one time so the music was obviously for there own pleasure and to compete with the Tropicana next door who were retaliating with there own loud music. As I said at the beginning our room was quiet but several other guests were staying in the studios directly under the pool bar and had to suffer this music into the small hours even though the bar was empty.
This is the first time I have made a holiday review and the reason I have done so, is that If we could all get across to the owner of the apartments that most British couples are not into this kind of music and those who are would respect the fact that not everyone wants it pounding out all day then this would probably have been one of the best apartment complexes we have stayed at. I went to complain to the rep who was not very helpful until I caught her sitting with the Turkish owner, then the music was turned down until he left the complex and then it was wacked back up as soon as he had left. If you are already there please go into the reception and complain I am sure they will finally get the message and transform this place into the 3-4 star that it is worthy of.
We went for one week and come back with a lovely tan and my own teenage daughters, who I had left safely at home were very impressed with the fact that I knew all the words to junk in your trunk by the Black Eye Peas.

Jul 2006, Miss A Dale

We went to siesta beach apartments in June and had a fantastic time. The people are very friendly, entertainment staff are great, Atta and Joe. The weather was very hot and hit 47 but with the help of the pool this was our best holiday yet.
The only disappointing part was the room, do not accept room 112 as this is like a dungeon with no balcony or windows in the bedroom but we are have booked again and have asked for specific rooms. We highly recommend this hotel but beware if you do not like steps and there are many. We mainly went to the top bar and pool but there is a lower pool and bar that is just as nice. We have since booked to go back in September as the hotel is very relaxing but with entertainment as well.
The best place to eat is the Cafe de Columbia down in Gumbet which is a 10 min walk, the food was excellent and very cheap, staff there was fantastic and would recommend this to anyone. Please beware as the markets and shops do badger you.
