just got back from our family holiday, and thought i would give u my thoughts on the holiday. i went with my four children and my mum and dad. we arried at 6am and was shown to our appartments, where i was greeted with a horrendous smell, but was that tired we fell asleep. there was no air conditioning and was told we had to pay extra if we wanted it. through the days the smell got worse. very poor facilities in the kitchen for self catering and not very clean.night time very loud music which sometimes can go on till 3am, my children slept through but this is just making you aware. now the good points, weather brilliant, staff really good and helpfull, they liked to get to know you and were brilliant with the kids, food in top bar was good and the staff realy helpfull overall i had a good holiday.

Arrived 11.30 pm and was taken to second floor despite having an infant in our party and requesting a low level.Told it would be sorted in the morning. Staff very keen to help with luggage and hung around for quite a while after arriving at apartment. No cot for the baby- however hotel staff did eventually borrow one from another hotel. Settled down to sleep at around 01.30 am and set alarm on phone for 8 am. While my son and daughter were asleep during this time in the lounge area, intuders came in and stole phone and handbag containing holiday money and camera etc. Rep informed and eventually he contacted police. Spent morning with non english speaking police at police station in bodrum. Asked for police report but they wouldn't give any paperwork. Rep said this was normal. Rep unwilling to give information about similar incidents which he said did occur. Self catering facilities poor-only 2 rings to cook on, no grill etc. No child facilities. Pools too deep.
Food in dophin restaurant very poor. My son ordered pizza and didnt get served until everyone else had finished eating. Very disappointed. Only ate there once. Upper bar restaurant better, as was the service given by 'Moses'.

My thoughts on my holiday at Siesta, hope you find it useful!

Just returned from 2 weeks there and have just reread the reviews so thought I'd write my own!
Overall, had a great time, loved Siesta, loved the staff, it's so nice staying somewhere where they are so friendly and really look after you (after holidaying in Spain for the last 2 years where you feel like you're just an annoyance)!
We were in a party of 12, kids & adults & everyone had a great time.
Yes the Dolphin bar gets very loud after about 11pm to the early hours, not just loud but nightclub booming loud, they've got very high tech equipment with a microphone that they love to shout on - its great when you're up there with it which we were for a few nights but not so great when you fancy a bit of an earlyish night, tho my kids weren't bothered by it and slept soundly through it, don't most kids? - it does boom out across the bay and into the rooms but the complex is big enough that if you want to be away from it you can. We had a room just downstairs from the bar, think this was probably one of the 'basement' rooms mentioned, but it was lovely with a nice seating area outside which we spent many a night chatting to the neighbours and just chilling. The rooms are clean and serviced daily, adequate I would say. It was close to the bar which meant that we were right there with it every night but also meant the kids could come and go as they pleased upto the pool and restaurant in the day which was great. It feels very safe and all the staff really get to you know you and you know that the kids are being looked after when you're not keeping a watchful eye on them.
One of our rooms was a bit smelly, think they have got a problem with some of the drains, but hey it is Turkey! The staff were happy to change the room to a better one as soon as we asked which was fine.
Spent many days over on the beach, just across the road with the kids up by the pool (our children are slightly older so not at an age where they have to be supervised all the time). Really recommend the bean bags under the trees on the beach, Siesta has a fulltime member of staff who really looks after you over there, plumps up your cushions for you, brings you drinks and food whenever you want it and really is a lovely guy.
My only warning to anyone - no not the mozzies (you get them in all hot countries), not people only being interested in you for your money (that's life), not the street sellers hassling you (accept it and go with the flow), or the heat (what do we go to hot countries for, if its too hot go to Cornwall), not the loud music - god you get this everywhere and its a hot country which is what we want isn't it - just don't go to Turkey thinking its cheap! We spoke to several Turkey people over there who say that this year the government have put prices up so am not sure whether its just the Bodrum area or all over - but prices are just the same as here if not more! We maybe had a couple of cheaper meals in places where kids can eat free but generally beer is £2.50 a pint, coke the same, meals on average about £8-£10 per head. Standard english breakfast about £3.50-£4.00. Markets are just the same, you try to haggle but they won't budge much, fake goods and they're trying to sell them at quite high prices.
Think we Brits are paying too high for stuff!
I booked this holiday and then read all the reviews after and thought what had I done?? We arrived about 11.30pm and I thought what had I done, people dancing on the bar and the music was deafening, though did have a thumping headache & really tired after a 3 hour flight delay. But woke up the next day to extremely friendly genuine staff, lovely room, gorgeous location & views and the longer I stayed the more I fell in love with the place & really did not feel ready to come home after 2 weeks.
Just take lots of money and enjoy, places and people are what you make it to be - all of the people in my party have travelled far and wide and all of us had a great time and thought it was one of the best holidays we'd had.
My first trip to Turkey and really didnt want to come home.

The best holiday ever. The staff are very welcoming & helpful. The apartment was clean on arrival & cleaned every day. There is a good variety of foods availiable & nothing is too much trouble. The guys who work at the Dolphin Bar work exceptionally hard & go out of their way to ensure that you have an exceptional holiday, they are all amazing. There is different entertainment every night. I would strongly recommend the boat trip that is on offer from the hotel as this experience was one of the many highlights of the holiday. Will definately go back cos i'm missing it already & would definately recommend to others

Booked last- minute, no time to look at much else; bargain basement price which was just as well since our room was in the basement!
Back wall was below ground level so only doors/windows were in front wall, which meant no cross-ventilation; studio layout, bathroom plus one large bed sitting room.
Air conditioning was a GBP35 extra per week but although warm, weather not hot enough to justify it.
Staff totally friendly & helpful, facilities OK; but putting middle-aged guests close to deafening disco playing until 02:00 was a bit thoughtless!
Now, the bad stuff- Mosquitos! Sleeping with door open for fresh air we noticed no insect screen fitted, though window had one.
Two of us were SAVAGED as per attached photo, yet I escaped bite-free (?). This happened on the 4th night & we should have asked to be moved to a better room but thought it too much bother; so perhaps we should share the blame... the room was very basic & should have had a few things like tea towels but it was very cheap so too much complaining is not justified.
Next door at the Tropicana (sister hotel) we were welcomed to use their facilities, which were much better and that establishment caters for the more mature guest (those who hate techno/rap/grunge/etc!) so if returning I would try that place...

  • Advice: Gumbet is a bit quieter than Bodrum but still the hassle from street vendors gets wearing.

the apartments are very basic but ok,we arrived at about 3am tuesday morning and the music was very very loud with people dancing on the bar. we could not sleep, the music goes on till about 5am every day. if you have children are want a relaxing time dont go its no fun. the staff are ok but just remember they only want your money nothing else.the top bar come restaurant is infested with rats saw them running arond the roof so did not eat there any more, the beach is man made but again its ok. we have to say this is the worst place we have stayed.

  • Advice: gumbet nice place.

BE AWARE OF HOTEL JUGGLING

We decided that after reading all the excellent reviews on the Siesta Beach; 10/10 Ect,we would take our 2 daughters and thier boyfriends, NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!! We arrived at the hotel after a long flight at 4.45am to be told that we were being moved to a hotel called the jasmine beach due to " well no reason was given " at that time in the morning you just take it. we were shuffled along to the hotel which was just 2 doors down,(luckily) originally we had booked 2 rooms one 1 bedroom and one studio ( 3 couples ) when we were taken to our rooms they were 2 studios to sleep 3? in each, they were disgusting! straight away we walked straight back to the siesta to complain but was told it is only a couple of hours please come back later. 10.00am we decided to go back to the siesta after staying in the jasmine for a few hours. We were then told that our rooms were ready :) our daughters room was lovely but we ended up at the top of the hotel in a little shack ( wooden ) lovely views and by the pool, but we had to endure the smell of the drains this was due to the toilet not being joined properly, the smell was unhealthy but after 3 attempts to get it sorted we just put up with it. We lost a day of our 7 day holiday due to this so not very impressed. we enjoyed the rest of our holiday and as it was our 2nd time in gumbet we new our way round. We would go to gumbet again but NOT to the SIESTA BEACH!!!!! Just be aware that if you book here in high season you may not get what you expected.

As a party of seven travelling to the Siesta Beach Apartments at the start of August 2009 i feel i need to let other holiday makers know of the experience we had.We arrived at the hotel at around 0130hrs with two children within our party only to be told at reception desk that the rooms was faulty and there was no other rooms available. We was then told that we would have to go to another hotel in the next resort of Bitez and the co-owner Emre stated he would personally take us there. To our amazement we went to the front of the hotel to be greeted by Emre driving a corsa type vehicle and his friend driving a dodgy two seater white van !!!four of our pary got into Emres vehicle and three of us got into the van with myself straddling both the drivers seat and the two adult males sat on each others lap partly on the passenger seat. The journey lasted for about 20mins which was dangerous and uncomfortable to say the least.
On arrival at our new apartment Romantic in Bitez Emre and his friend dumped us at the location and left us to staff at Romantic to get us to our rooms. At around 4am we all got to sleep only to woken at 0645hrs with a male standing at the end of our bed robbing us of our money and mobile phone.
I attempted to contact Emre about this asap where i told by him that he could not attend until the afternoon.
We was told on numerous occasions by Emre that our rooms would take 3 days but after about ten days we were no further forward and remained at the Romantic Apartment for the whole duration in the end !!
On speaking to other holiday makers and at least a further five parties at the Romantic they stated the same as we did that Emre stated to them that rooms was not available due to faults and that a wall had been knocked down in one of them and that they would be back at the Siesta Beach Apartments in 3 days, this never materialised for any of them !!
I firmly believe that the Siesta Beach Apartments had over booked and did not have the rooms for us or any of the other parties which ended up at the Romantic. The holiday just turned into a nightmare from the moment we arrived in Gumbet, then getting burgled and then being told on numerous occasions we would be back the Siesta in 3 days which never happened.
***** just beware incase you turn up at the Siesta Beach Apartments in the early hours and then being told the rooms are faulty and you will be going elsewhere !!!!!!

  • Advice: Gumbet is a lively place but beware of the scam at the Siesta Beach Apartments !!!
