This hotel should be condemned. We were a group of six who have travelled to Turkey many many times and this is the worst experience we have ever had. The rooms were basic and the bed linen was not very clean. The restuarant/dining area was filty, the tables were mosaic tiles that were cracked and had dirt ingrained in them, in the two weeks we were there we never saw them cleaned. The whole area is running alive with cats who are allowed to jump on the tables and chairs both inside and out. A lot of the food was recycled and cold. The catering/bar staff were dressed in jeans and various coloured tee shirts, which looked scruffy and they had no interest in making any effort to make you feel welcome. Sometimes you could wait 10-15 minutes for them to serve you a drink at the bar. When you did get one more often than not they were served in children’s blue plastic beaker that had not been washed properly. The cups in the dining room were either dirty, cracked, or chipped.. Guests should be able to expect a degree of cleanliness whether it is a 5* or a 2*. Do not be deceived by the photos on the internet, these must have been taken a long time ago, it does not look like that now.

The room size was adequate but not clean, dust and cigarette ends under the beds. The towel rail nearly fell on my head. There was a small balcony, enough for one chair but we were unable to use it as the garden shrubs had grown to cover the area.
The restaurant and terrace eating areas were extremely dirty. The table tops were mosaic and had bits missing which allowed grime/food to build up rot and smell. In the 2 weeks we were there they were never properly wiped down.
The food served was nothing short of disgusting. It was cold, very unappetising to look at and of very poor quality. A lot of it was recycled from the day before. Most of the guests declined to eat it and a lot of them ordered in pizza or kebab or ate in the Tempo restaurant in Gumbet which was openly promoted by the hotel staff. The crockery/cutlery was not always clean with residue of food dried on.
The catering/bar staff were dressed in jeans and various coloured tee shirts, which looked scruffy and they no interest in making any effort to make you feel welcome. Sometimes you could wait 10-15 minutes for them to serve you a drink at the bar. When you did get one more often than not they were served in children’s blue plastic beaker that had not been washed properly. My partner watched the bar staff as to how they were cleaning these cup and they were not even put through a dishwasher. They were rinsed in the water from the tap (undrinkable) and then stacked in the heat all day. As you are probably aware this is would cause a breading ground for bacteria inside these cup that we were expected to drink out of. Myself and my partner actually kept the same cups and washed them in bottled water ourselves after we realised what was going on.
The plastic water dispensers in the restaurants were discoloured by a green/brown algae residue. Guests believed that this water had been purified (as in bottled water), but the cases were stored under a covered table, had no sealed tops, and were refilled with the local water. The ice was the same, made with local water. The pipes in the other drinking machines for fruit juices were not cleaned which left a funny taste and residue at the bottom. I can’t comment on the frizzy drink dispenser as the pipes were not visible.
The ladies & gents toilets/washrooms were filthy and smelly. The same dirt/stains remained on the walls & floors for the duration.
All in all I have to say that this holiday was a total disappointment. Guests should be able to expect a degree of cleanliness whether it is a 5* or a 2*. This hotel needs a total revamp. It is such a shame that what was probably once a really lovely hotel, set in pretty surroundings, i.e. rustic with climbing flowers, has been left to go to rack and ruin.
Both my partner & I were very ill during this fortnight, I got hit on the head by an unstable 4’x 3’ ply board used for the daily darts game and in addition to all of this my partner also contracted ring worm! The cause i believe is due to dirty bedding.
Quite frankly we are pleased we made it home in one piece and now cross Turkey off our lists of holiday destinations as the whole experience was completely ruined for us by this disgusting hotel.

Not feeling the ambiance at L'ambiance
2 / 10
Jun 2011, Holiday Sue

We just returned today (June 22) from staying a week at L'ambiance & giving it a 1 star rating may be stretching it. It advertises a two channel radio in the room, there was none; also a mini bar stocked with spring water, it was never stocked the entire time we were there. When I asked for an iron & ironing board reception said they didn't have one & housekeeping would do it for us, of course it was extra, for 12 items at 40 TRL it wasn't too bad...
The one positive thing I can say is the location was good as we were able to walk to Bodrum & Gumbet easily. The pictures on the L'ambiance website is exactly what it is, however the room looks better than it actually is.
The shower stall was extremely small, the soap tray was hanging on the wall with two rusty screws & the shower door had to be placed on back into the rail each time I got into it.
If your idea of a great holiday is to sit by the pool, read, drink Efes, gin, vodka, juice & soda to your hearts content, eat dry, luke warm food which basically consisted of some sort of soup, casserole/stew, rice/bulgar, fish (that looked like it came from the bottom of a chippy fryer) & chips then this is the holiday for you. (keep in mind what you have at lunch one day you may have for dinner the next)
I wouldn't complain about the amount of times we were served fish if it was cooked properly & looked pleasing to eat; the best fish we had was black grouper at a cafe by the harbor our first day, it was beautiful!
Review of staff is mixed, some were very friendly & seemed pleased at attempts to speak Turkish, others looked as if they wanted to be anywhere other than behind the bar. Heard a few tales of how rudely staff spoke to other guests, but they can write their own review.
Pay attention to the reviews not what is being sold on the websites.

Honestly.. i dont know what everyone is complaining about.. if you want 5*service and food then you need to pay for it!!
Being a travel agent and it being my first time to Turkey, i went with an open mind. Only paying £250 all inclusive, really... what more can you expect?? its cheaper than self catering, you just had the added bonus of alcohol!!
The food is ok.. edible and abit repetative but ok.. the snacks of chips and pizza in the afternoon is yum yum.
Our rooms were clean, cleaned everyday and quite spacious.
We found all the staff in the hotel really friendly, reception staff, bar staff, cleaner, reps, oh the manager was abit moody.
Gumbet is quite a lively resort which is approx 10 mins walk, 10 lira home in a taxi. Bodrum is about 25 mins walk and 10 mins taxi.
Most of these bad reviews are from the end of season, it is closing down and they are coming to the end of a hard season.
I would recommend this hotel to friends, i think it is more ideal for couples and groups.Entertainment is very limited.
Oh and try the spa out.. its very reasonable :-)

The REPS was a waste of time didnt do a thing for anyone the female rep you only seen her filling her face at meal time not talking to the guess just chewing her food the male rep just a plonker waste of air.

i would never recommend his resort to any of my family and friends who would want to visit bodrum at all. the reason behind this was for the severe lack of entertainment on the resort even to the point that a holiday maker on the resort organized a night of bingo just for something to do cause there wasn't anything. the rooms weren't bad just small with enough balcony space for one. now the food well if you do stay there its best to know that there is a mcdonalds just up the road as the food is awful even to the point that they cooked chicken wings on a grill served them to my girlfriend and just as she bit into them blood poured out and so we went hungary for the week.the staff were rude and up tight when ever you spoke to them and the bar had the option of three drinks beer, gin and vodka and if you wanted coke it was cheap stuff from the supermarket. the resort is built on a burial site with tombs at the back of the resort and due to the lack of fencing around the resort you have alot of flea ridden cats running round your legs at meals time whether you eat inside the restaurant or outside.the showers were always cold and its a hike to get to your rooms. we did find out that the place had gone bankrupt and had to sell everything to keep open so that explains lack of entertainment. the pool was disgusting as the cats were drinking out of it and you had to ask the staff to clean under the sunbeds cause the cats had used the area as a litter tray. overall a poorholiday and will be complaining to olmpic and travel agents

Not Recommend for Holiday

Where do I start!!
The good points
- the bedrooms although quite small were cleaned daily, even if the covers (not sheets) were just like those used in babies cots.
- the staff on the whole were pleasant and polite, which is more than can be said for the management.
The bad points
- The area around the hotel was filthy, the pool area was dirty.
- the menu in the restruant was bland and comprised mainly of salad and chicken (both lunch and dinner).
- the coffee machines regularly broke down.
- in the second week of stay, the only cereal available on most days was coco pops with powered milk.
- there were a family of sometimes nine cats and kittens allowed to roam freely in the restruant whilst guest were eating.
- the tablecoths appeared not to have been changed during the 2 weeks we were there, each day more stains appeared on them.
- the garden surrounds had not been watered.
The advertisement in the reception area showed an incredible hotel complex, wish we could have stayed there!!

mainly bad

I have just recently got back from the l'ambiance hotel and i wouldnt recommend it to be honest.
I went with my boyfriend - we had booked a double room but got a twin (two single beds) with what was like hospital blankets on. The bathroom is tiny. Im a small size 8/10 and found it difficult to have a proper shower as it was so small, kept knocking my elbows on the taps/walls and you only get a shower, not a bath.
Dont leave anything lying around whilst the housekeeping comes around, they are very light fingered.
The balcony was tiny, more like a window sil.
Dont even get me started on the food, was the same every single day. i had the same meal for breakfast, lunch and tea because i was eating the only things which didnt need to be cooked (avoid all meats as they are definitely not what they say they are).
Staff are fairly friendly but come across a bit pervy sometimes. Drinks are rank and they charge a fortune after the 11pm cut off for free drinks. The pool area was small but very well set out, it was nice being out the way. was very quiet and only a short walk to the bars/clubs by the beach.
The massage place located at the hotel was lovely. We had the package and it was wonderful. They definitely knew what they were doing.
Overall i wouldnt recommend this place, next time i will pay more for a place which has even the basics! You dont get hot water here, the air con doesnt work, the satellite telly is all in turkish apart from cartoon network and for a 4* hotel the service is crap! Definitely not a family hotel either.
