This is our fifth time going to the Isaac, last time there two years ago the staff said they were going to revamp the apartments, which have not been done. They are still dusty and dirty and thats withoutb talking about the beds! Absolutely disgusting! I am no snob but there is a limit as to where I will sit and lay my toushy!!! the actual apartment is filthy, fridge had penicillin growing in it, kettle i'm surprised still had the bottom in it as it was so old!The rings on the cooker had seen better days! Balcony and furniture absolutly filthy, was there for two weeks cleaner came in and emptied bins every three days and changed beds once every fortnight! As for building works... don't get me started on that! Woken at 5am every morning for two weeks!!! Shower only worked when it felt like working, lack of hot water. Now wildlife in the apartment absolutely hundreds of ants... must be pumping steroids over the winter period to get three flights up!! Not to mention the crickets in the bathroom behind the ceiling tiles, singing all night... staff not at all helpfull! Then found another one in the air conditioning in the bedroom, which we couldn't get out! we also had green fly in the room would have been cheaper to go to Marwell Zoo for two weeks, creatures everywhere! I agree with previous reviews Cyprus absolutely lovely, weather great but something needs to be done about the state of the apartments, needs revamping from reception to all the rooms. Staff need to be more helpfull, a lift that works occasionally. Prices need to be reduced in the bar. Will not be going to the Isaac again! Going to Cyprus though next year, already booked.

Great holiday

Aug 2010, debsinleeds

We have just returned from a weeks break in Pernera at the Isaac appartments. What can I say? Great location- quiet Pernera 5 mins away, Protaras 15 mins walk away. The appartments are clean, the service is excellent and Alex was great behind the bar. The music by the pool is great too- thanks to us.
if you are booked this summer- enjoy. I'll be back next summer.

Our Stay at the Isaac

I have just returned from a two week stay at the Isaac. I was very pleased with the accomodation, although the "self catering" part of the room could have been updated. My partner and I purchased some food from a Kokkinos, a cheapish local supermarket, and was not able to use all of the goods we had purchased due to the lack of facilities. There is no grill, no toaster but there are two rings to cook on.
The staff at the apartments; Alex, Tony, Maria, George were very friendly and welcoming, therefore making us feel at home.
I would suggest that if you were to stay in the Isaac apartments, that you book your holiday in August, this is due to there being no construction work as the cypriots are unable to work during the month of August as it is too hot.
The only other complaint I have about the apartments is the cost, it is quite expensive to stay there, the air conditioning is 5 euros per unit per day and the cost of the drinks in the bar are quite expensive too, although the food is a good price.
Overall, I had a fantastic stay at the apartments and is meant for all ages, me and my partner are between the ages of 20 and 22 but there were many children there and many older people.
JUST A WARNING TO HOLIDAY MAKERS PLANNING TO STAY AT THE ISAAC, IT IS SITUATED IN PERNERA, WHICH IS APPROXIMATLEY 20 MINS FOR PORTARAS, WHICH COSTS AROUND 8 EUROS IN A TAXI AND THERE IS ALSO A NICE WALK TO PROTARAS ALONG THE BOARD WALK. THIS TAKES 20 MINS FROM THE ISAAC.

Our stay at Isaac

My husband and myself have just returned from a 2 week holiday at the Isaac and enjoyed every minit of it. The staff, Alex and Maria in the bar area and George on reception were so helpful and very freindly, could not do enough for you. We met some lovely people and everone spoke and got on with each other. The apartments on the other hand could definately do with updating. I stayed at these apartments 12 year ago and nothing has changed in all that time it is just the same. Therefore it could do with a lick of paint, definately in the apartments and sonme equipment to make a self catering holiday, self catering. You could not really eat in the apartments as there were no facilities to do so, only a old kettle to make a cup of tea or coffee, but not all rooms even had a kettle.
So please take note of peoples comments and spend a little bit of money updating the apartments, it seems a shame that you have lovely friendly staff that make you want to come back again but the facilities in the apartments do not.

poor standard
4 / 10
Oct 2008, bobster

Having stayed at the issac apartments before i was disapointed to find that the overall standard of the hotel had deteriorated. The room we had was not clean, dusty and in some places dirty. The maids only came in three or four times a week and emptied bins and brushed the floor. The beds were changed at the end of the first week. We also noted that fire doors were being wedged open and i removed these wedges daily only to find them wedged open again the next day! One member of the staff(he could have been the owner) who attended to the pool bar was very loud and shouted most of the time also he turned up the music which was not in my opinion suitable for the clientel as most were over fifty! The building work did not bother us as our room was at the back of the property although i imagine it may have disturbed those who had a room to the front. Dispite these complaints Pernera is a nice place, very quiet with good choices of places to eat.

Our Stay at Isaac
4 / 10
Oct 2008, johann1976@googlemail.com

Our holiday started with a very freightening experience of one of the plane engines having a small fire prior to landing at Larnaca, we were chased up the runway by a flatilla of fire engines then surrounded while they put it out and checked the plane over, we all sat in the plane in the dark with blue a red flashing lights outside and a smell of fuel vapour pouring in. when we had finally taxied to the terminal and the lights came on, smoke started to billow from the right handside of the plane, the thoughts of me and my family being burned alive were rushing through my head which filled with blood as my heart went crazy. I am quite sure others were having similar thoughts. Anyway, we got to the Isaac apartment hotel around 1am to be greeted by a man smoking a fag on the main reception, with ash falling out of his mouth while speaking to us (not the sort of greeting you would expect in any hotel in Europe?)we then found that our seaview room also had a view of a building site and was on the main road, one which was quite noisy. we did not have a good sleep. It was quite dirty and worn out, so we asked for a different room. The staff were friendly and offered us another room at the top floor away from the main road and it was much better, but still very basic and shabby. The main disapointment about this self catering apartment was that, there was no microwave, no toaster, a very basic stove with old fashioned kettle. We went prepared to go self catering and bought food in, but did not have the correct facilities to prepare and cook it, so we ended up spending the best part of a few hundred Euros on eating out. (by the way, I definately recommend dining out at "Il Cavaliere Ristorante Italiano", just up the road from Isaac hotel. The food is second to none, probably the best in Cyprus and the staff are fantastic) Outside the Isaac hotel is a small pool and a larger pool, but no childrens facilities or entertainment, so not much of a child friendly hotel. there is a few old video games, most of which don't work We managed to tolerate this hotel for the week that we were there, yes the staff are friendly including Alex, it wasn't (holiday from hell dirty), but just shabby, 2 star quality. And yes there are ants, but you will find ants at every hotel in any hot country, they are there to clean up after us and are quite interesting to watch, so leave them alone! If you are used to 4-5 star hotels like we are and want a cheaper alternative, the Isaac WILL disapoint! If you are used to 2-3 star holidays, then I am sure you would give it 8-10 out of 10 like some reviewers. I think it would be so much better if Alex invested some of the money he charges in upgrading the facilities, then I am sure it would get a 4 star rating and much better reviews in general. Also most of the building works around this hotel will be complete by 2009 holiday season, so the area will be more tolerable. If Alex did this then I would return, but if left as it is, it would quite easily turn into a holiday from hell hotel within the next 2 years and i certainly would not return. I give it 4 out of 10.

We have just returned, from a week...

Oct 2008, Mr Jonathan Carter

We have just returned, from a week here. We were aprehensive about the building work and the comments others had made about the place. It was great, and you have to realise that it is cheap and represented extremely good value for money. It was clean, friendly and we would definitely return. We stayed at Kousalis Beach, Protaras, in June(4*), and I can say that in all honesty, that this was more fun, the staff make it what it is, a great friendly little place. We had lunch several times at the Blue Bay restaurant, which was always excellent, And can recommend Ifalos, just down the road about 100 yards for evenings.

Sep 2008, Miss M Jones

Myself and a friend stayed in these apartments for two weeks in June - this was our 2nd visit to the apartments. We had a fantastic holiday as we did 2 years ago, there were families there that had visited previously too. Alex and all the staff are very friendly and helpful. As for the building works, there is a lot going on all around Pernera but we spent most days at the pool and we were never disturbed by it, you're definately not staying 'on a building site' its over the road. The nights (both Cypriot and BBQ) organised by Alex were great value and very good nights, so much so we ended up doing the BBQ twice and would have done the same with the Cypriot night but had already pre-booked a trip. Several people staying there at the same time have said they will definately return if not later this year definately next year. In fact I've booked to go back in October.

We stayed at these apartments as part...
9 / 10
Aug 2008, Mrs HM Thornton

We stayed at these apartments as part of a large group aged from 18 months to mid 50s and we all enjoyed our stay here. There were building works going on across the road but to be honest we didnt hear much from it at all as the works are quite advanced. The apartments are well situated and are within walking distance of several beaches. We had very good meals served by Alex and his staff. They are good value for money. The Karaoke and bbq are well worth the money as they have so much food you positively come away with your stomach groaning and is of excellent quality. The meze is also wonderful.
When arrived in the middle of the night after a long delay, we were greeted by an elderly Cypriot man who quite frankly was as much use as a chocolate fireguard. However we managed to get checked in eventually. I think we drew the short straw as there is a different guy called George whos english is very good and is really helpful. Our rooms were basic as they only had two cooking rings but there was plenty of cooking equipment to use. As usual with a hotel, you only get teacups and if you like a mug you would be advised to take it with you. The maids visited the rooms regularly which was good and are helpful. Our room had a noisy fan in the bathroom and the maid reported it as soon as she had finished in our room. It was fixed quickly. If you have a problem in your room, speak to the receptionist as they will try and resolve the problem quickly.
The Thomas Cook rep was ok and was around periodically ( see the notice board in reception)
Shop around for car hire as they can vary greatly with price and quality. WE went to Doros at the top of the street and they were very good. We had some fab meals whilst here. If you are a large eater, order the set menus at windmills. My husband likes his food but even he struggled here. The steak and ale restaurant is good too and isnt english orientated at all. We also ate at the two chinese restaurants in pernera and they serve really good food. Avoid the Kartanas restaurant. The service was terrible and the food awful. We had upset tummys the following day.
We also went on the Ayia Trias 3 for the day and this was really good as they take you up and down the coast with swim stops along the way. We all enjoyed the day we spent on the boat.
If you have access to a car there are large supermarkets on the way into paralimni which may save you sum money. However the supermarkets are usually well stocked with everyday items but for sum things eg disposable nappies can be expensive. Like anywhere abroad it pays to shop around for your cigarettes and alcohol as they can vary. I bought most of my alcohol from the large supermarket and it was 2 euros cheaper for some things so that can tot up to quite a saving. Anyways please do not be put off by some of the negative reviews you may see on this page as we all thought the Isaac apartments and its staff were brilliant. It is a real family friendly place. One of family is already looking into rebooking this complex.

we have just returned from a week at the issac and althougth the room was basic its a fantastic hotel, there was no noise from the building work and the staff are brill, nothing is to much trouble for them. dont worry about the comments of some people because this is one of the best hotels we have stayed in. The only problems we had was the basic facilaties in the room if you do want to cook, you only get two rings to cook on with no grill or microwave. the staff more than make up for the lack of cooking facilaties.

we arrived at the hotel early hours...

Aug 2008, Mr B MCCLEAVE

we arrived at the hotel early hours am, when we woke up and had a look around we found the place to be filthy, the fridge looked like it had not been cleaned for months, the bathroom was disgusting, it was like a cheap y.m.c.a. sheets and throws must have been 20 years old even one of the pillow cases had decintergrated while we slept on it aftyer one night.. the sheets were crey/green, and very thread bare. the "kitchen" was much to be desired, 2 very small electric rings and thats it, nothing no microwave no oven no decent utensils and a dangerouse kettle..the shower fell off the wall, and the air conditioning kept leaking, we have the photos to prove it!! it also was a self catering, but all over the bar area and pooll area there were notices no food or drink to be consumed in these area but you could only if you purchased them from the bar which was a franchise owned by alex, a very rude and arrogant man, his chef deforosts his chicken pork etc in bags in 140 degrees out side, what a wonderful advert, we then did not eat there again, and then were told by alex. he does not care if the british dont spend there he does not need them he has the slovakians, i thought this to be a disgusting thing to say, and we just stayed away from him, his daughter of 15 who runs the bar nd food area in his abcents, is a rude and nasty as her father. safe to say we will not be going to cyprus again or reccommend it to anyone again. the flights out where excellent, but coming back we where cramped and very very hot and clostraphobic, the meal was disgusting and i would not feed it to a dog, would not mind but we had to pay for our meals extra, if i had have known i would not have bothered. we enjoyed the beach and the sun, but as for the isaac and the people we where totally dissapointed and will not ,for this reason be travelling with thomas cook again. or visiting cyprus.
