Jun 2007, norseman

Both my wife and I have recently returned from a two week holiday at the Pernera Beach Hotel.
We found the standard of accommodation to be good and well worth the three star listing. We would certainly recommend this hotel for anyone wishing to chill out, we can't comment on what it would be like in the high season, but for out of season it is certainly worth booking.
We found all the staff to be very helpful and courteous and polite. The standard of food on offer was of a high standard and there was plenty of it, one slight disappointment was the entertainment although good it could have been a lot better.
The only other disappointment we had was our Libra rep after I had a slight accident in the hotel, the rep I am afraid was of no use nor was she helpful. I have never known anyone have so many excuses in my life, and both my wife and I have been in the service industry for over thirty years, Libra in this instance need to retrain or replace this rep, the hotel management did more for me than anyone else 100% to them.
The hotel is in a good position with lovely beach walks on either side of the hotel.
I would recommend a visit to Paralimny, Fig tree Bay and if you have a car Konnos Bay, top marks to all these places, we have been travelling to Cyprus for many years and have never found a place as good the people and the weather play a big part and to those who have never been, “What Are You Waiting For" I promise you will love it.

We had booked this holiday 12 months...
5 / 10
Aug 2006, Mr B J  Nelms

We had booked this holiday 12 months ago so that we could get flights from our local airport (Exeter) on the day that was most convenient for my work (Sunday). However 3 months later in Sept 2005 we were told that these flights were no longer available and we had to fly from Bristol on a Wednesday. We should have known that this was an omen that this was not destined to be a smooth running holiday.
We left, inconvenient, Bristol on an equally inconvenient Wednesday and arrived in Larnaca. Our baggage seemed to take a long time to appear but we had been one of the first to book in so it would probably be off last and we were now in sunny Cyprus so why hurry. When our bags did arrive approximately 1 hour after landing we proceeded through customs to look for the Libra rep. No sign of him/her in arrivals and the other company reps could not help. After another hour we found a Libra rep bringing a coach load in from Ayia Napa. "There is no way that they would leave the airport without you" she protested. But we did feel a little abandoned at this point. She agreed to take us to our accommodation in Pernera and we arrived approximately 2 hours after we should have. However the sun was shining and we were in Cyprus so it wasn't that bad.
On arrival we were pleasantly surprised by the friendly greeting from the reception staff and the pleasant decoration of the reception area. When we got to our room we found that it did not match he apparent smartness of the public areas and, as mentioned by other guests, was looking a bit tired and shabby. However it was just a place to sleep and he end of our lazy days in sunny Cyprus.
We were a bit concerned when the A/C unit started dripping a bit but thought that they do build up a bit of condensation so it will stop soon. An hour later when we were mopping up the flood with our towels we felt it was time to contact reception and get it sorted. Which they did quickly. It didn't seem to cool very much after that though.
I could write a book about this holiday because there were lots of similar incidents throughout the holiday. For the sake of the reader however, I will summarise the good and bad points
Good
1. Staff were extremely helpful and very friendly
2. Location was excellent
3. Food was excellent for 1st week but did drop off slightly in week 2
Bad
1. Tour rep not helpful
2. Rooms very tired and in need of modernisation
3. Cleaning of rooms very erratic. Not due to efforts of staff but we felt that there were not enough cleaners. Maintenance of A/C was also not good
4. Alcohol content of some drinks was suspect. At times they appeared very weak. This was confirmed by other guests.
Finally, nether good nor bad but bears a mention, this UK guests are in the minority at this hotel. A lot of French and Germans. No great problem but we felt that the evening entertainment was a bit Franco/German in its appeal.

Jul 2006, Miss L A Walker

Well this was my 6th time to the Pernera beach hotel and we just love it. We had a big family holiday with my family from America coming to join us. They thought it was fantastic.
The staff are all very friendly and the hotel is very clean in fact I would at least rate this hotel a 4 star. The food is amazing and the views from the hotel of the med is out of this world.
We have made many friends here now, their is Andreos next door which is a great guy who has everything in his shop then their is the Blue Bay which you have Stavros, Lambros and not forgetting Dennis they are a great family who have the best food and we miss them all. When I arrived home I booked straight away to go back next year and I can' wait.
See you soon xx

Jul 2006, Miss S Dray

First of all I would like to say a massive thank you to all the staff in the hotel that were all extremely helpful, polite and made the holiday pleasant. Especially the animation team, who organized games, sports, activities, and shows at night which was all incredibly enjoyable and made the holiday its best. The were rumours of some of the animation staff to be sacked because of not very good dances at night. I'm telling you now, this is not a worry as I agree along with many other friends and families I met, the dances were excellent and had the crowd dancing, clapping. The accommodation was not a big problem to me as I stayed in it the least I could as I would like to get out to the sports. It was a very tidy room with the maid coming round everyday to clean up towels, toiletries etc. as the would be replaced with fresh things.
The supermarket down by the bar is v.good and supplies most things you would need on a holiday e.g. bikinis, sun cream, snorkels, postcards, toiletries etc.
The reception was very helpful and if you are in need of anything they would be there to answer any questions.
The bars and shops are a 2 minute walk from the hotel and the bars have extremely good entertainment e.g. hypnotist, blues brothers, karaoke etc. There is also a taxi firm (Olympic taxi) about a minutes walk from the hotel whom are particularly cheap and helpful.
All in all my holiday to Cyprus was one of my best experiences in life and if I had an opportunity to go again, I certainly would
Just like to say another big thank you to the animation team. You are all wicked people and I miss you all so much!
Sophie

The Pernera beach hotel is in a...
9 / 10
Jul 2006, Mrs S Lowsley

The Pernera beach hotel is in a lovely setting, overlooking the sea. There is a small selection of shops, bars and restaurants less than 5 minutes walk away.
Public areas are spacious, and there are 2 restaurants and a large bar with indoor and outdoor seating.
Half board’s guests take their evening meal in the large taverna, with views over the sea.
The pool area is one of the best we have seen, with comfortable sunbeds and parasols. The water was just the right temperature for climbing straight in! This area does tend to fill up quickly, but there are also beds and parasols in the surrounding garden area.
The hotel advertises that it has its own private beach. Forget this, as it is extremely small, and none too pretty. Just walk a couple more feet and you are on the public beach, which is beautiful, and the water is very clean and clear. Plenty of sunbeds and parasols available to hire, which worked out at less than £5, for all day.
The hotel has its own small supermarket, which surprisingly worked out at good value for money compared to other local ones. Because the beach is just a few steps from the hotel, you can pop back up the steps, and get a cheap cool drink, instead of having to pay a higher price in the hotel or a nearby beach bar. Ice creams and snacks etc are also reasonable.
If you are on half board you will not be disappointed. The quality, quantity and choice were all fantastic. If you are on a diet, forget it. The choice of desserts is the best I have seen in any hotel on this type of package holiday.
There is something to suit just about anyone, but vegetarians will be a bit limited. Still, the salad selection was ample, and there were grilled vegetables too, but mostly various meats and fish for main courses. A small selection of the usual children’s choices was also displayed.
Breakfast too was very satisfactory, with the usual cereals, various breads and preserves, fresh fruits, and yogurts.
For our European neighbours, there was also ham, cheeses and even salad!
The cooked breakfast was above average, with bacon, beans, eggs and tomatoes. The sausages were those small spicy ones. As seems to be the case with many med destinations, nothing was ever piping hot, but we are now used to this!
We found the orange juice and grapefruit juice very strong, but there is also chilled water available to dilute it.
Plenty of coffee available, ranging from black to cappuccino. I still found them a little strong, but there is also hot milk on tap, which I added to make a nice latte!
Snacks are available in the bar if you feel peckish at lunchtime. These are fairly reasonable, and tasty.
They have an offer in the afternoon, for coffee and cake (or tea) and the price means you get the drink free.
The selection of cakes is scrumptious, the fruit tarts are delicious, and all of the cakes look like works of art!
Moving onto the rooms, in my opinion this was the only thing that was stopping this hotel from gaining 4 stars.
Perhaps we have been spoiled, as we are used to self catering in a roomy apartment.
We were expecting a bath, but only had a shower, basin and toilet, in a very small space.
Also the balcony was very small, and lacked one of those fold up type clothes driers.
But, I must stress that the room was comfortable, and very clean, with fresh towels everyday, I think though this particular room just needed a bit of refurbishment.
Apparently if you upgrade, the rooms are larger, but as we only really sleep in a hotel room, I do not think it is worth the extra expense.
The entertainment team do their best to put on a little show each night, but to be honest they are pretty cringe worthy!
Any music etc is usually finished just before midnight, which suits us fine, as we do not stay up late.
This hotel is great if you just want to chill out in very pleasant surroundings, but if you are thinking of doing a lot of sightseeing, please be aware that you are 2-3 hours away from the major sights like Paphos. You may get their quicker if you hire a car, but there are some truly mad drivers around, so we did not risk it. Even a very short taxi ride to Protaras will have you gripping the edge of your seats!
This area of Cyprus is not very pretty either (scenery wise)
Pernera beach hotel had everything we wanted for a quiet relaxing week away. Service and cleanliness cannot be faulted, and the people of Cyprus were all very friendly.
Just be prepared to ditch the diet whilst you are staying here!!

Jul 2006, A Abiagom

Wonderful hotel, the staff being very helpful, friendly and always smiling. The room was spotless, food very very good. Lots of places to go as the hotel was only 5 mins walk to town where there are wine bars and restaurants and only 5 mins walk to beach, practically on your door step. Myself and my husband had a wonderful time and will return again next year 1 week is definitely not enough.

Jan 2006, shirlz

We went to Cyprus to get married, we got married on September 8 at Protaras town hall, it was the best day of my life everything was perfect, we could not give enough praise to Libra weddings and for the holiday.
NOW getting back to Penera beach hotel. There were 23 in our wedding party all staying at the hotel the one fault we can make is the food it was self service and you had to be there on time or you were left with not a lot off choice, the children’s food was not on the menu after September 10 as they said the school holidays had finished and children’s menu was not available, we were not happy as there were 5 children in our party all under 10.
The hotel was very clean and our rooms were spotless the pools were clean and plenty of sunbeds, and towels were not allowed to be put on the sunbeds to save them. The weather was hot and we loved Penera and Protaras we will go back again, than you Libra weddings and holidays for our perfect day.

Just returned from a great week in...

Oct 2005, Mr R Collis

Just returned from a great week in Cyprus, our first visit and would certainly recommend both Hellenic Voyages and the Pernera Beach Hotel. The cost was quite a bit cheaper than going with a mainstream tour operator, Manos was really helpful and answered all our questions.
The tickets arrived a few days before we left but we were prepared to collect them at the airport, only issue was not knowing which terminal at Manchester to check in at. Very well organised at Larnaca airport, a dedicated Hellenic Voyages desk directed us to the coach park where a lady met us and ensured we were on the correct coach. Check in at the hotel was easy even though it was the early hours (5:00am local time).
In the morning we requested a room change, as we had no balcony and more importantly overlooked a ploughed field, we were moved to a room with a balcony overlooking the sea without a problem. In fact nothing seemed to be a problem for any of the staff, they all spoke English and were always friendly and helpful. The hotel is located around 3km out side Protaras around a 30 minute walk along the sea front, would recommend this at the cooler part of the day.
This hotel is one of the best we have stayed in whilst abroad, it overlooks the sea and has plenty of entertainment day and night (if you want it). The food is good with 2 restaurants both overlooking the sea, one for breakfast one for dinner. It must be good as a number of people were on return visits to the hotel.

Aug 2005, Mr D J Jackson

I really enjoyed the facilities in this hotel and the area around the hotel. There are many facilities; Jacuzzi, gym, tennis courts, indoor pool, squash court.
It is only a taxi away from heinapa and the hotel is very beautiful.
The hotel is very clean and the staff are very friendly. Our rooms were cleaned everyday and the towels and bed were changed every other day.
There are many activities and the animation/games team are excellent. We had a lot of fun with all the activities.
I loved this holiday so much i am returning next year.

Apr 2005, Mrs K Easterbrook

Hotel right on beachfront, many food choices & different non-smoking restaurants for breakfast & dinner both excellent.
The staff were very helpful & friendly, especially Michael & Jana. Entertainment most evenings, especially liked Monday Cypriot night with dancing etc in the bar. They have an excellent bilingual entertainment staff as German & French as well as English people stay here.
There is archery, boules, volleyball & table tennis at different times throughout the day. Lovely outside pool area, indoors pool not heated. we went last week in April, 1st week may, plenty of sunbeds. Don’t bother booking trips with rep, they are cheaper booking in Protaras.
At beach part of hotel area, there is an underwater walk bookable from hotel. Brilliant for me, as I am not too good in water! Helmet & wet suit on, you walk under the crystal waters & feed the fish!, then you can buy the DVD! Buses to Ayia Napa, Paralimni & Protaras ran every hour at 70 cents per one-way trip.
Also lots of bar/eating areas 10 mins from hotel, especially like to mention the Nautilas - hello Alix!, the waterloo, hello Pani! And last but not least Steve & Carrie at the barley mow - they took it over November 2004. Great laugh, English bar staff Cheryl & Karen, very knowledgeable about local area, also can swap your holiday books there, once you’ve read them, as English paperbacks retail at £7! Also Steve is Darlington fan, he would like to know if anyone else is! Only joking.
Will return again, loved Cyprus, lovely people, lovely hotel.
