Pernera Beach Hotel Reviews
" Would recommend the Pernera Beach.... "
Submitted By: barnesy1974The room was large for the four of us which was good with two young kids. Could have been a bit cleaner just the floor other than that great. Staff lovely couldn't ask for more. Two weeks of sun and heat in a great area. Always got a sun bed round the pool and the pool was great for us and the kids.
Hotel has its own beach but manmade. Would recommend getting a taxi to Fig Tree Bay gorgeous clear warm water. Get a taxi don't try and walk it in the heat. Only a couple of pounds.
We walked in to Protaras main strip mostly every night and this would take about 45 minutes, lovely walk and even better to walk off evening meal. Most nights would take kids to Bedrock which has a show most nights for kids, and they entertain them. Also there is a bouncy castle and other things for them to do so you can enjoy a drink or two while they play.
The big water park was great need a taxi a full day of fun loads to do. Don't think that the aquarium was worth the money only a couple of fish a crocodile and a couple of birds.
Loved the place and will return one day.
" Just returned from a fabulous one... "
Submitted By: Mrs S BrownOn arrival we were met by our taxi and taken to the hotel which was about 45 mins away from Larnaca airport - the reception staff were nice and friendly and spoke very good English.
Our room was on the third floor - we had a nice spacious room with a balcony - the bathroom was very big and looked like it had been refurbished recently with new tiling in terracotta and a white suite - our one had a bath with a shower attached with lovely warm water.
We had two camp beds for the children - I would have preferred bunks though - and the only other complaint I had was the view - which was not really their fault - our room overlooked a supermarket and a brown field - which has been bought by Crown hotels - so I suspect there will be building work there in the future - because we were hardly in the room we just ignored the view.
Our room had an excellent remote controlled a/c , we also had two wicker chairs and table as well as a wardrobe with plenty of shelves. We had a table and chairs outside too.
There were three lifts that all went to different parts of the third floor which was convenient.
The passages in the hotel could do with being updated and are without a/c - just an observation but not important to us - which is probably why its 3 star - although we believe the service was 4 star,
We hired a safe - which came in handy and also a fridge for an extra £10 - this was a life saver as it was so hot and it came in handy for cooling water and milk for when we were out.
Breakfast is brilliant and is served till 10am - lot of choice for everyone - and nice atmosphere - evening meal in the taverna was also really good for everyone including non-meat eaters - with fish on the menu everyday (different variety) also, lots of salads and dips, fruits and plenty of meat dishes as well as vegetables, rice and pasta.
Also, children’s menu which consisted of chips, fish fingers and nuggets everyday!
However, they had some food from the buffet too so it wasn’t too boring for them,
WE took our own drinks for the kids - e.g. Capri sun cartons and water bottle - and just ordered our own drinks - soft drinks cost £1 cy but come in a very slim glass, so not much of a drink - we started ordering medium water which we all shared towards the middle of the week - otherwise it all adds up -
The beaches around Pernera are beautiful as you walk to the right of the hotel (behind Taverna) there is a nice sandy beach with clear water and lots of sunbeds which are charged - also watersports there - if you keep walking more rocky beaches - if you carry on for a further 20-25mins you end up in Protaras where all the life is - much more touristy and lively - quite tiring with the kids so we got a taxi back - cost four Cyprus pounds, - better to head out for the long walk earlier as poss if heat allows you to as it gets dark quick and don’t get to see anything
That is one of the things we noticed- too hot to travel out in day - cools around 6pm but gets dark early at around 8pm - skies go dark real quick.
Protaras is lovely though - with a beautiful golden sandy beach - this is where we got a boat one day from Captain P something cost £15 Cyprus pounds as my three yr old wasn’t charged - 6 pounds adults and 3 pounds children - well worth it - there was another which is slightly more expensive.
The coca cola glass bottom one, but this one is well worth it - its run by two really friendly guys - one the owner and the other a retired guy from the midlands who was really nice - he served lots of snacks too - popcorn, crisps, grapes, melon, squash and wine.
The trip was well worth it - took us to Cape Greco where there is lovely blue sea which is clear and clean - beautiful scenery and a really nice refreshing trip - once at Cape Greco we had the opportunity to dive in to the sea - really good experience.
On another day we went to the water park in Ayia Napa - this worked out really expensive - £60 which is equivalent to £75 English pounds - would have worked out cheaper if we had booked outside the hotel - we booked with our rep Toulla who we thought was really crap and expensive too - she is all over the place and talks for about twenty-thirty mins without taking a breath - she will really try and sell the mountains to death - we didn’t fall for it - we decided to give it a miss as would have been too much with the kids - they were happy chilling out in the pool.
One other trip we did was the Sunday market - we phoned the local bus company the day before - the leaflet is in reception (blue one) and they came and picked us up at about 8am from the hotel and brought us back too at around lunch time - great jewellery and belts there.
The pool in the hotel is excellent - kids and us loved it - really big and is divided up so it’s not just one pool - lots going on - aqua aerobics for ladies and water polo for guys - animation team is excellent - left my daughter in kids room nearly every day which is open for a few hours in the morning then again in afternoon- for colouring and crafts run by Elizabeth and Andrea who are superb.
Also archery everyday and table tennis and volleyball. Evening entertainment really good too - really varied - kids took part too when they were awake - had mini disco most days and couple of musicals one being Grease - one day some local traditional dancers turned up where they loaded up loads of glasses on their heads - also a men vs. women quiz, they had bingo as well a couple of nights - a music quiz too - adult disco and lots of well organised fun - really enjoyable,
We found a supermarket close by - just in front of the hotel if you walk a bit further up on the right - where we used to buy milk, drinks and bananas everyday - it’s about halfway up the road which leads up to the main road - by the hat and bag shop (second supermarket) also bought some Cyprus delights and some souvenirs to bring back.
All in all if came back to this area would stay again - would probably hire a car this time as it is easy to drive with right hand drive and motorway running all the way.

Submitted By: Mrs S BlackstockWe stayed half board which I wouldn't do again as I am veggie, and I did struggle as dinner was a buffet and almost every dish had meat in, I can’t face another salad! My son had something off the children’s menu which was the usual chicken nuggets etc which he enjoyed. Each night they have a theme in the restaurant e.g. Italian night but the food did seem to get monotonous and wasn’t of the best quality.
There are some lovely restaurants close by especially on the beach next to the hotel. The shops and bars are only a few minutes’ walk away but we went into Protaras most nights and used Olympic taxis which seemed to be the best. Staff in hotel all very friendly and helpful.
There lots of entertainment during day for the kids run by the animation team who I found to be very good, my son loved it. Fig Tree Bay well worth a visit it is gorgeous but gets very busy so you need to get there before 10 for a sunbed. Protaras quite a walk away and we found it quicker to walk the beach way which took around 10 minutes.
We went with First Choice who I found to be excellent, our rep Gemma was lovely and so helpful. Would recommend the Catamaran trip and the lazy days cruise which a rep called Matt did who was great.
The hotel is right next to Pernera beach which is really nice and you can do watersports, we went on a jet ski which was £20 cp and there was lots of other things to do to. Would def recommend the hotel and First Choice.

Submitted By: Miss K SmithThe hotel is located in Pernera which is a nice quiet area located about 15 min from the centre of Protaras. We walked into Protaras most nights as there was much more going on, however there are a few shops & nice places to eat along with several bars just minutes away from the hotel. We also went into Ayia Napa which cost about £10 in a taxi.
The hotel is on its own private beach, however this is very small and quite rocky, but if you walk across a few of the rocks there is another main beach just minutes away which is much nicer, and there were sun beds available to hire which were really cheap.
The hotel was very clean & the maids changed sheets & towels 6 days out of the 7 we were there.
The hotel staff were all very friendly, and was always very helpful.
There was lots of entertainment during the day from 10am till around 5pm, and there was something for not only the children, but adults as well which was good.
My boyfriend and I are both very fussy eaters; however we had breakfast on most days…. There was a lot of choice, but the food was the same every day. We only stayed in the hotel for one evening meal, which was ok.
There was quite a large selection of food, including different types of potatoes, roast chicken, pork, rice, salads… On speaking to other people in the hotel who stayed in most nights said the food was more or less the same each evening, which they had no problems with.
Overall we both thoroughly enjoyed the holiday and will be looking forward to going to Pernera Beach in 2008!!

Submitted By: Mrs K PearsonThis was our 9th visit to Cyprus and we were very happy with the hotel , staff were very pleasant and helpful, the meals were very nice plenty to choose from every night ,but in general very similar every night so after 2wks it got a bit boring, but no complaints over quantity or taste. We had our 17yr old son with us and he had no complaints either.
The room wasn't very spacious, but for how much time you spend in it it's nothing to fret over.
The entertainment team Christian and Marco were the best we've seen, they were so funny, all through the day and the evening, the antics they got up to through the day we found very comical, just laying by the pool sunbathing listening to them you couldn't help giggling and our son enjoyed joining in the poolside competitions and games for the prize of a free cocktail, which he won quite a few of !!!
But if you want to sunbathe in a quieter location there is a lovely lawned area away from the pool or the lovely little bay which is overlooked by the hotel restaurant.
On the whole I would have no hesitation in going back or recommending this hotel, location, facilities and the pool were all lovely. If you are thinking of going and want a good holiday this I am sure will meet your requirements.
There is a no reserving of sunbed policy which to my pleasure the hotel took action on by removing towels from sunbeds in the morning when certain nationalities left there towels on sunbeds before going to breakfast. They would return to find their towels in reception!! Ha!

Submitted By: norsemanWe found the standard of accommodation to be good and well worth the three star listing. We would certainly recommend this hotel for anyone wishing to chill out, we can't comment on what it would be like in the high season, but for out of season it is certainly worth booking.
We found all the staff to be very helpful and courteous and polite. The standard of food on offer was of a high standard and there was plenty of it, one slight disappointment was the entertainment although good it could have been a lot better.
The only other disappointment we had was our Libra rep after I had a slight accident in the hotel, the rep I am afraid was of no use nor was she helpful. I have never known anyone have so many excuses in my life, and both my wife and I have been in the service industry for over thirty years, Libra in this instance need to retrain or replace this rep, the hotel management did more for me than anyone else 100% to them.
The hotel is in a good position with lovely beach walks on either side of the hotel.
I would recommend a visit to Paralimny, Fig tree Bay and if you have a car Konnos Bay, top marks to all these places, we have been travelling to Cyprus for many years and have never found a place as good the people and the weather play a big part and to those who have never been, “What Are You Waiting For" I promise you will love it.

Submitted By: Mr B J NelmsWe left, inconvenient, Bristol on an equally inconvenient Wednesday and arrived in Larnaca. Our baggage seemed to take a long time to appear but we had been one of the first to book in so it would probably be off last and we were now in sunny Cyprus so why hurry. When our bags did arrive approximately 1 hour after landing we proceeded through customs to look for the Libra rep. No sign of him/her in arrivals and the other company reps could not help. After another hour we found a Libra rep bringing a coach load in from Ayia Napa. "There is no way that they would leave the airport without you" she protested. But we did feel a little abandoned at this point. She agreed to take us to our accommodation in Pernera and we arrived approximately 2 hours after we should have. However the sun was shining and we were in Cyprus so it wasn't that bad.
On arrival we were pleasantly surprised by the friendly greeting from the reception staff and the pleasant decoration of the reception area. When we got to our room we found that it did not match he apparent smartness of the public areas and, as mentioned by other guests, was looking a bit tired and shabby. However it was just a place to sleep and he end of our lazy days in sunny Cyprus.
We were a bit concerned when the A/C unit started dripping a bit but thought that they do build up a bit of condensation so it will stop soon. An hour later when we were mopping up the flood with our towels we felt it was time to contact reception and get it sorted. Which they did quickly. It didn't seem to cool very much after that though.
I could write a book about this holiday because there were lots of similar incidents throughout the holiday. For the sake of the reader however, I will summarise the good and bad points
Good
1. Staff were extremely helpful and very friendly
2. Location was excellent
3. Food was excellent for 1st week but did drop off slightly in week 2
Bad
1. Tour rep not helpful
2. Rooms very tired and in need of modernisation
3. Cleaning of rooms very erratic. Not due to efforts of staff but we felt that there were not enough cleaners. Maintenance of A/C was also not good
4. Alcohol content of some drinks was suspect. At times they appeared very weak. This was confirmed by other guests.
Finally, nether good nor bad but bears a mention, this UK guests are in the minority at this hotel. A lot of French and Germans. No great problem but we felt that the evening entertainment was a bit Franco/German in its appeal.

Submitted By: Miss L A WalkerThe staff are all very friendly and the hotel is very clean in fact I would at least rate this hotel a 4 star. The food is amazing and the views from the hotel of the med is out of this world.
We have made many friends here now, their is Andreos next door which is a great guy who has everything in his shop then their is the Blue Bay which you have Stavros, Lambros and not forgetting Dennis they are a great family who have the best food and we miss them all. When I arrived home I booked straight away to go back next year and I can' wait.
See you soon xx

Submitted By: Miss S DrayThe supermarket down by the bar is v.good and supplies most things you would need on a holiday e.g. bikinis, sun cream, snorkels, postcards, toiletries etc.
The reception was very helpful and if you are in need of anything they would be there to answer any questions.
The bars and shops are a 2 minute walk from the hotel and the bars have extremely good entertainment e.g. hypnotist, blues brothers, karaoke etc. There is also a taxi firm (Olympic taxi) about a minutes walk from the hotel whom are particularly cheap and helpful.
All in all my holiday to Cyprus was one of my best experiences in life and if I had an opportunity to go again, I certainly would
Just like to say another big thank you to the animation team. You are all wicked people and I miss you all so much!

Submitted By: Mrs S LowsleyPublic areas are spacious, and there are 2 restaurants and a large bar with indoor and outdoor seating.
Half board’s guests take their evening meal in the large taverna, with views over the sea.
The pool area is one of the best we have seen, with comfortable sunbeds and parasols. The water was just the right temperature for climbing straight in! This area does tend to fill up quickly, but there are also beds and parasols in the surrounding garden area.
The hotel advertises that it has its own private beach. Forget this, as it is extremely small, and none too pretty. Just walk a couple more feet and you are on the public beach, which is beautiful, and the water is very clean and clear. Plenty of sunbeds and parasols available to hire, which worked out at less than £5, for all day.
The hotel has its own small supermarket, which surprisingly worked out at good value for money compared to other local ones. Because the beach is just a few steps from the hotel, you can pop back up the steps, and get a cheap cool drink, instead of having to pay a higher price in the hotel or a nearby beach bar. Ice creams and snacks etc are also reasonable.
If you are on half board you will not be disappointed. The quality, quantity and choice were all fantastic. If you are on a diet, forget it. The choice of desserts is the best I have seen in any hotel on this type of package holiday.
There is something to suit just about anyone, but vegetarians will be a bit limited. Still, the salad selection was ample, and there were grilled vegetables too, but mostly various meats and fish for main courses. A small selection of the usual children’s choices was also displayed.
Breakfast too was very satisfactory, with the usual cereals, various breads and preserves, fresh fruits, and yogurts.
For our European neighbours, there was also ham, cheeses and even salad!
The cooked breakfast was above average, with bacon, beans, eggs and tomatoes. The sausages were those small spicy ones. As seems to be the case with many med destinations, nothing was ever piping hot, but we are now used to this!
We found the orange juice and grapefruit juice very strong, but there is also chilled water available to dilute it.
Plenty of coffee available, ranging from black to cappuccino. I still found them a little strong, but there is also hot milk on tap, which I added to make a nice latte!
Snacks are available in the bar if you feel peckish at lunchtime. These are fairly reasonable, and tasty.
They have an offer in the afternoon, for coffee and cake (or tea) and the price means you get the drink free.
The selection of cakes is scrumptious, the fruit tarts are delicious, and all of the cakes look like works of art!
Moving onto the rooms, in my opinion this was the only thing that was stopping this hotel from gaining 4 stars.
Perhaps we have been spoiled, as we are used to self catering in a roomy apartment.
We were expecting a bath, but only had a shower, basin and toilet, in a very small space.
Also the balcony was very small, and lacked one of those fold up type clothes driers.
But, I must stress that the room was comfortable, and very clean, with fresh towels everyday, I think though this particular room just needed a bit of refurbishment.
Apparently if you upgrade, the rooms are larger, but as we only really sleep in a hotel room, I do not think it is worth the extra expense.
The entertainment team do their best to put on a little show each night, but to be honest they are pretty cringe worthy!
Any music etc is usually finished just before midnight, which suits us fine, as we do not stay up late.
This hotel is great if you just want to chill out in very pleasant surroundings, but if you are thinking of doing a lot of sightseeing, please be aware that you are 2-3 hours away from the major sights like Paphos. You may get their quicker if you hire a car, but there are some truly mad drivers around, so we did not risk it. Even a very short taxi ride to Protaras will have you gripping the edge of your seats!
This area of Cyprus is not very pretty either (scenery wise)
Pernera beach hotel had everything we wanted for a quiet relaxing week away. Service and cleanliness cannot be faulted, and the people of Cyprus were all very friendly.
Just be prepared to ditch the diet whilst you are staying here!!

Submitted By: shirlzNOW getting back to Penera beach hotel. There were 23 in our wedding party all staying at the hotel the one fault we can make is the food it was self service and you had to be there on time or you were left with not a lot off choice, the children’s food was not on the menu after September 10 as they said the school holidays had finished and children’s menu was not available, we were not happy as there were 5 children in our party all under 10.
The hotel was very clean and our rooms were spotless the pools were clean and plenty of sunbeds, and towels were not allowed to be put on the sunbeds to save them. The weather was hot and we loved Penera and Protaras we will go back again, than you Libra weddings and holidays for our perfect day.

The location is excellent, really quiet but scenic. It's a 5 minute walk up the road to Pernera if you want to eat/drink there. The hotel is very well run, staff are very organised and the food/drink excellent.
The Animation team give 10/10 for effort but the shows did start late and went on and on sometimes. OK if you have older kids, but our 8 year old wanted his bed by 11pm! Highlight was the magic show; low point was the "Dance Competition" (where tipsy people were hassled onto the dance floor by Christian!).
The pool was great and was clean (no ear infections here). Only minor problem was getting a sun bed, but then again, it was August. The Animation team were there to provide entertainment throughout the day.
Air-conditioning was free and worked very well. The room was clean although a little dated. The bathroom was very clean and the power-shower great!
I found some of the negative reviews of this hotel inaccurate and would definitely book a room at the Pernera Beach again. It was one of our best holidays.
