Kos Bay View Jul/Aug 2007
Just back from the Kos bay view hotel thought that I would write a little review. Overview: Hotel loacted on top of a massive hill(600ft)helps with the cooling! The hotel was clean and the food was poor but the staff were friendly. Entertainment was dire from the amateur holiday reps. This hotel had no facility for teenagers like pool table/games etc. Fine for families with small kids who are entertained with the pool all day but don't take teenagers! Great place if you want a quiet do nothing holiday, but if you need any excitement do not choose this hotel. There will eventually be a nasty incident in the pool areas if the behaviour I witnessed is continued. There is no lifgaurd/attendent at the pool and there are consequently no rules in place. It was a total shambles with kids throwing/pushing other kids in to the pool. I would not return to this hotel. Pros: Friendly staff rooms cleaned every day Good place for families with small kids. good views to Turkey Good breeze as you are high up a hill aircons good Cons: Located at the top of a massive hill(need to be an athlete to get up there) Non existent leisure facilities. food is generally very poor(salads are good) isolated from most amenities shops/bars/restaurants etc No pool attendent/lifegaurd.
very relaxing holiday, even with the kids
Have just returned from 2 weeks at Kos Bay View Hotel. Our children are 5 & 7 so very busy, they had a great time as did we. The pool areas are well maintained and very clean, even the pool toilets which can sometimes be very messy by the end of a day. There are plenty sunbeds available, but you have to be on the go early to get shade. The indoor play area is fantastic, cool enough for them to run about in & a bar area for them to get juice. The room was cleaned every day & fresh towels left. The bathroom is a bit on the small side when you have to try & shower children. There is no fan either so after 4 showers at night it is very steamy for a while. The restaurant was well set up and the food was fantastic. There was never any problems getting something, even with food intolerances. It is self service for meals & drinks. The childrens club staff also done the evening entertainment, a bit ropy some nights but the children enjoyed every night - easily pleased! The amphitheatre area where the entertainment is set up is great, never any problems getting a seat. The staff were all friendly & helpfull. Although the hotel is on a hill, there are mini buses running up and down constantly if you feel the need to use them. Don't let it put you off you will have a fab time. We would recommend this hotel to anyone, escpecially with younger children.
Fantastic will be going back!!!!
Just came back on the 4th of August and wanting to go back.!! When we arrived it was after midnight and was very tired after a long transfer, aussie gent behind reception was very friendly and helpful After checking us in he opened the restaurant to have a quick bite to eat . Due to the fact most of the rooms are up a steep hill we were taken to our room by mini van (1601), the room sizes are brilliant and a double bed that could of fitted all of us in!. All the food on offer is very nice and always plenty to choose from, but may seem a little mudane at times. The rooms were always clean, with a maid service every day. The views were fantastic , and we could see Turkey very clearly. The hotel has 2 large pools, 1 with water slides, which the kids loved. There were quite a few nationalitys staying in the hotel German,French,& Dutch and sometimes felt a little isolated, but did meet other Brits. The evening entertainment was ok but could of been better. The only bad thing i could say was the hill which we nick named" CARDIAC HILL" but there was a bus every 10mins if you did'nt feel like walking. Overall this is a lovely hotel and beautiful place to visit, this is well worth the money and we will be going back!
Great holiday, good hotel
Got to the Kos Bay View at 06:30 and received a very warm welcome at the reception. Our room was at the top of a very steep hill (oxygen mask required) but it was worth the climb a huge 1 bedroom apartment with superb air con system and view to die for. Food at this hotel is the norm for all inclusive, pasta, meats, fish, vegs and loads of salads on offer. Beer and wines were great but the local spirits were not for me (paint stripper) gin being the worst. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful animation team tried hard (seen a lot better in other Iberostar A.I. hotels). The hotel is very cosmopolitan Germans, Belgians and Dutch being the most prevalent (until our very own little Scottish invasion happened). Met loads of great people while at this hotel so BIG UP TO THEM for making our holiday a little more special. Oh and lastly if you should visit, say hi to Hussain at the pool bar from the Scottish mob and put a few euros in his wee tip box.
Okay but some issues
Reading the reviews below seems to me this has been written by somebody from the hotel itself as some kind of self-marketing. The hotel rates itself as 5*. Would grate this overall as 3*. Good/Average points: 1)Hotel Hotel located on steep hill. Consists from several different buildings located at the hill, with reception in the main complex which surrounds the pool (with two water slides), with the next pool slightly away. Ten minutes walk down to road (which follows the beach and goes to Kos town). Hotel is part of Iberostar complex consisting from three hotels [best one is Panorama, Kos Bay View the second]. Minibus runs regularly around the complex, friendly drivers. Very close to Kos town (10 min drive by public bus, less than 2 EUR fare) Large rooms, even apartments with two double rooms available, with kitchenette (fridge etc). Not so good air-conditioning [at reception they explained as temporary problem with electricity causing AC generators working on reduced capacity]. Given that hotel located top of the hill most of days windy making the hot weather reasonable and enjoyable [also reduces need for AC for some nights]. 2) Entertainment Kids “Playland” located in Panorama hotel [i.e. need a minibus from Kos Bay View hotel]. Its large room with two inflated castles etc., very nice for kids 1 to 15 age. Night entertainment consists from kid’s disco followed by some program. Pretty much the same you would see in other all-inclusive hotels; would say rather weak performance but the “animators” tried their best. During the day not much except for animators + volunteers dancing on some stupid Turkish song twice a day around the main pool. Wanting to venture out to have a look around the island most people hiring cars, scooters, quad bikes or buggy cars. There is car / quad rentals just down the hill at the point where you will be picked up by hotel minibus. Try buggy (EUR 45 a day) its a great fun. Try Lido Waterpark located close to Mastichari with over 15 water slides (EUR 17 adults and EUR 13 kids over 4 age entrance fee). There is free bus going every day which will pick you up in front of Ramira Hotel at 10:30 [takes one our to get to Lido park; returns at 4pm]. 3)Food All-inclusive, buffet style. Reasonable choice to eat three times a day. Very good desserts. But in between not much to eat! Although declared refreshment available all day there are some cakes available mornings and early afternoons for few minutes before they run out. Its certainly OK for adults, but this hotel declares itself as family hotel so should know kids don’t eat only three days a day! This is actually not an all-inclusive I’m used from other hotels with food available all the day. Drinks rather bad with cocktails made from local spirits (rather cheap ones, even Greek Metaxa not available?!). Good beer (Amstel). Forget that drinks are brought round pools on trays (as somebody below mentioned), you have to serve yourself from two bars. Negative points: THERE IS ACTUALLY NO BEACH. Although Iberostar declares private beach, this is the worst dirty beach in Kos. Also, although being all-inclusive, Kos Bay View guests need to pay for the basic refreshment served from small kiosk [surprisingly other two Iberostar hotels get this free]. To go to beach you need (i) hire a car and go to other KOS places [recommended Tigaki with large nice sandy beaches or Mastichari beaches], or (ii) go to beach of Ramira Hotel [few hundread meters right]. Arriving with charter flight with people for various hotels be ready will take more one hour for transfer bus to get to hotel from the airport. Conclusion: Should you get the package for very good price go for that. Would you prefer beach [and not to stay all two weeks at hotel an its two pools] you would need a car. Seeing prices I recon to hire a car at the airport [seemed to me half price to what would pay close to hotel]. Be ready to travel each day to beach to the other side of the Kos island. Should you prefer hotel with beach go to other one. Seems to me, however, Kos hotels are rather moderate.
Mr Martyn
Great holiday for young families, very clean and rooms well air conditioned. Many staff ,so no waiting at the bar.bus every ten minutes to the beach(need to pay for beach beds 6 euro for two) food excellent. if you go to pool bar tell barman hussain mr martyn from scotland says hello.
High on the hill
The Bayview is high on the hill with a good view across to Turkey and also back to Kos town. The staff are friendly, and constantly offer to drive you up and down the hill. My room was spacious, spotless and well airconditioned. The breakfast display was large, if not tremendously appealing. The pool areas, as mentioned in other reviews, are family friendly. If you are after the nightlife of Kos town, this place and its sister hotels down the hill are a little out of the way. However, I would recommend it to a family happy to play by the pool for a few days.
No doubt if you go you will be please with your decision
My family and I arrived on Friday just in time for lunch. It was buffet style and it was the best. The room was perfect and view was awesome. That is why it is called Kos Bay View. My three kids were very happy with the hotel. My children are picky eaters so it was nice to for one week not to have to deal with that. My children loved the food choices. There is a place on the property called playland and it is great idea. It is huge room with inflated castles that the kids could just hurl themselves and did. My youngest ran himself into a coma every day. The pool has two water propelled slides great fun. They provide you with daily entertainment that is actually fun and evening entertainment that is also well thought out. The people that were there were very nice and there was not one person who was a jerk while I was there. The shuttle bus drivers are amazing the were johnny on the spot. I never had to wait to be driven to bottom of hill or picked up to be driven back up to the top of hill. The staff are intent on making sure you have the best holiday.
First class hotel
The Iberostar deserves all five of its stars and certainly made my stay in Kos a pleasurable one. Every member of staff was helpful and polite and the hotel itself was magnificent. This is easily the cleanest hotel I have ever been in and the buffet breakfast and dinner were both superb with plenty of variety on offer. The hotel is only a seven euro cab fare to Kos town where many excursions (e.g Bodrum, 3 Island sailing trip) can be taken. Without doubt I would book this hotel again as it offers amazing value for money.
wow ! what a view
what a fantastic place ,a young kids dream holiday . My husband and myself and our 2 year old went here for a week on a last minute holiday booked the week before departure. we could not of picked a better holiday , staff were excellent and very friendly .accomadation was excellent we were upgraded to a superior room with sea view at no extra charge!. rooms were very clean maid service every day with fridge refilled with water on a daily basis ,which we did not expect.anything you requested from staff reception was done straight away.taxi buses taking you around the complex were always on hand ready to pick you up. views were spectacular.we were situated at the top of the accomadation complex ,was a bit of a hike with a buggy going up to accomadation as very steep hill , you could get the taxi bus but by the time you have packed the buggy up you could of been there. food was excellent great choices something for everyone even the little ones.drinks were on tap day and night till midnight real beer from a proper pump with reall glasses! not plastic ones only when near the pool.As for the kiddies my son loved the playground and the inside playcentre it was just what kids need for letting of steam and for parents to have a rest watching well not everyone watching! .pool was great very clean and well kept kiddies pool clean and safe. entertainment was ok day and night, animation team were very friendly and you didnt have to join in if you did not want to.kids club was great our son enjoyed it. Most of the holiday makers were German or dutch but all spoke english and found them all to be very friendly and not as loud as a lot of english holidaymakers made some nice friends. travelling about on the local buses was very easy and was very cheap .we thouroughly enjoyed our holiday and will be going back this year 07.
