The Paspalis is top of our list of hotels in Greece,(as rooms in Greece are normally very basic) modern room with a fridge, large mirror, wardrobe with loads of hangers, dressing table, bedside cupboard with lights that work, safe in warbrobe (you have to pay for hire),... more

Great resort - people very friendly, hotel good (staff in particular) & clean; previous reviewers have correctly noted the small balconies! Hotel food ok but not as tasty/refined (if Greek food can be called that) as Skala restuarants - hotel meals' quality varied on... more

Holiday was one of the best we have had. Hotel was basic but very clean, staff very friendly and the food was very good. There was just a short walk to the beach (50 metres) and we would recommend snorkelling to see the large variety of beautiful fish in the sea. We also... more

We stayed in Skala, at the Paspalis Hotel for our 2 week honeymoon from 16th - 30th Sept 08. Overall we loved it, hence the 9 rating, but there are several (not massive) things I would want to pass on to someone else thinking of staying at this hotel and in this resort. So... more

The hotel is in a perfect location, cross a road and you are on the beach. Yes - the beach is slightly shingle but this did not bother us or our daughter, she had those beach shoes on but we didn't find it particularly painful as some people have described on here. Having... more

Stayed at Paspalis twice before. Once via Portland Direct, 2nd time via emailing Nikos the owner-very easy going, good rates and no problem too big. Staff are fantastic with the kids. Going back again Sept/Oct 2006. Staying half board as food in village is very good but... more

Lovely
Lovely hotel. Lovely food. Great staff. Shame about the manager and his dour wife who couldnt even be bothered to speak to you and that was for 2 weeks. The rooms were spotless the taverna food was excellent the staff were brilliant (rhea, georgina and panos). fab location right on the beach and close to town. Would highly recommend Captain Vangellis boat trips especially the sunset cruise with free wine. There were plenty of excellent restaurants in the town especially Mi Abeli on the main street. All in all had a fabulous holiday. Not forgetting Pilar the Thomas Cook rep she was fabulous and a great laugh.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great Stay at the Paspalis
My fiance and I just spent a week at The Paspalis Hotel in Skala. We very much enjoyed our time there and would definately recommend to family and friends. The location is second to none and is situated directly opposite the beach. We were fortunate enough to stay in room 43 - which overlooks the pool and beach (by far the best room with a view!). The rooms themselves are basic, but very clean and tidy. Safety boxes AND air con are charged extra which was a little dissapointing (39 euros for a week). The hotel generally is kept very clean which was nice to see. The pool area was specious and very quiet. Going outside of school holidays helped I imagine so I would recommend doing so yourselves if possible. There was no mad rush for the sunbeds in the morning as the hotel radiated calmness! The bar served really great food. We ate there every lunch time and also had an evening meal. The prices were very reasonable also. The only negative point was the lack of food chocie at the continental breakfast. Also any English breakfast type food is at an additional cost. The hotel staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble for you. I reported that our fridge did not work properly - 2 minutes later the hotel manager was up in our room to fix it! If your looking for a relaxing, peacefull gettaway, then this is the place for you. We'll definately be returning! Top marks!
Wonderful Kefalonia
Just back from our second stay at the Paspalis Hotel. Still the same standard of cleanliness in the hotel, poolside and the Taverna. Rhea and Georgina the staff in the Taverna/Bar can't do enough for guests and the Taverna food was very good and value for money. The resort has grown slightly with the welcome addition of a 1st class restuarant, The Symposium. The standard of food and service was magnificent - it is not cheap but well worth the extra cost. Kefalonia remains one of the most beautiful Greek Islands and a visit to Ithika is a must - but dont go on the boat trip for this- take the bus and ferry - that way you see all the island and the tour guides are very good indeed. Go on a boat trip another day! All in all a very good holiday. Only very slight downside was that the Paspalis attracted a lot of visitors to the pool area from other accommodations this time which made the poolside a lot busier (and noisier) than our previous visit - but I am probably nitpicking!
A beautiful island, beautiful hotel, beautiful weather.
Just back from Kefalonia after a wonderful, relaxing, romantic week staying at the Paspalis hotel. Booking unknown hotels over the internet can be fraught with risk but the reviews for Paspalis were very encouraging...with good reason! considering the price and time of year we were delighted with the Paspalis, on arrival we were shown straight to our room and although large pool was closed (opens 9am - 7pm) the beach was directly across the road. Ate there first night and lunch and food was excellent value and tasty. The bar was a great place to drift back to at night and as all other reviews have observed the Paspalis is ALWAYS busy with a steady stream of customers all day. Our room was a little small and faced the back of the hotel (even our rep had never heard of a room 131!) but look at the advantages, secluded, very private, outdoor area to enjoy drinks and music. Fridges in all rooms which is also very handy. In September most families are back at school so hotel mainly populated by couples of all ages and everyone was very friendly. The location for Skarla and the rest of the island was spot on, it's a great little town with plenty of bars but not great for anyone wanting a wild night life (which we definitely weren't!) Would recommend you hire a car to make the most of your stay and also take advantage of some of the tours, the Ikatha trip was a idylic Finally the staff are superb, fluent English and went out of their way to help us, most of all they seem to enjoy their jobs which is unusual anywhere in the world! A beautiful island, beautiful hotel, beautiful weather.
Hot!! So What.
This was our second visit to Skala, Kefalonia in three years. If you ever go to the south of the Island, you will understand why it's so easy to make a decision to go back there. Last visit we stayed at Ocean View on the hill leading out of the town, but this time, of the choices available, we opted for the Paspalis Hotel. One of the best decisions we've ever made. Arriving on Sunday 23rd July 2006, and after a leisurely journey from the Airport, we were the last to get off the coach right at the front door. We made our way to the hotel reception to register, but were met at the door by Nikos, the owner and taken straight to the room. That was it plain and simple. Less than an hour later we were firmly implanted on the beach, where we stayed for more or less the whole week. We toured the Island on our last visit and decided that this would be a beach holiday. We booked Bed and Breakfast and as stated by previous reviewers, the breakfast was quite plain. There was, however, more than enough to eat with a cooked meal available for a small extra cost. The Hotel Taverna and Bar are absolutely superb with wonderful views over the Ionian Sea just across the road. We had all our meals there, lunch and dinner, with only one exception when one evening we went to Bar Kaliva to visit the owner whom we met on our last visit. The Paspalis Taverna gets very busy, particularly in the evening. This place is full, when others are empty! The food at the Paspalis is really good. There is a very varied Menu which covers all times of the day and the quality is also excellent. Table service is second to none, extremely efficient with all waiters/waitresses speaking good english. I can personally recommend any of the Souvlaki dishes or the Beef or Lamb in a ceramic pot or any of the salads or - in fact I could sincerely recommend anything on the Menu. It was an extremely hot week with the temperature in the high 30's, so when it got too hot, it was a 30 second walk ( or run on the hot sand!) from the beach to the hotel for a refreshing drink. What a fantastic week we had with neither of us wanting to return home. It is so laid back there with no fussing from anyone. The only time we went into reception was to find out the visiting time of the Thomas Cook representative. The rooms are quite basic but very clean and, after all, you should only be in them through the night. Maid service was good with regular linen and towel changes. I would recommend the Paspails Hotel to everyone who is thinking of visiting Kefalonia.. As soon as you arrive, you can feel any stress drain from your body. Nikos, the owner. is always around and he, along with all his staff, are absolutely brilliant. If you go to the Paspalis Hotel, you will enjoy yourself; if you don't then it's your own fault. Personally, neither of us can wait to go back. Roly Parker and Steph Kennedy, Carnforth, Lancashire.
paspalis in july
this being the third trip to kefallonia in the last four years we were looking for somewhere more town-based than previously when we stayed at San Giorgio, which is 3-4 kms out of skala itself. Paspalis Hotel is ideally placed, being on the sea front, with a massive 10 yard walk to reach the shingly beach from the hotel!!.there are sun loungers and umbrella for 6 euro if you want to be on the beach for your tan otherwise there are plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas at the hotel itself all in close proximity to the pool and the bar area. Bar service and facilities were good and prices better than the other hotels along the front plus plenty of locals were eating in the restaurant throughout the daya nd evening which in itself is an endorsement. Reviews of the hotel in "THIS IS TRAVEL" describe the hotel as functional and unelaborate and this is something i would agree with, it has everything you would require but there is something missing and it is killing me because i don"t know what it is.....!! Pricewise the hotel was cheaper than other hotels in the batgain break but there were additional costs to factor in such as rental of the airconditioning controller and the safety deposit box....being 30 euros per week and 9 euros respectively....the rooms were cool enough with the shutter doors closed at night but air con was needed to chill the room after the days heat. The only negative aspect, and a major one if you are here for a fortnight, were the beds...don"t think i"ve ever slept on a harder one...admittedly we didn"t ask for a change of mattress....i don"t think hotels do soft/medium.hard do they? Roomwise we had asked for room 43 but that had been snaffled up months ago so we did have a mountain view out the left side of the hotel, there was some building taking place but no noise from that... breakfasts were adequate, cereal/toast/ham/cheese/tea/coffee/orange juice and some cake otherwise a choice from cooked list...it was lovely to sit out so close to the beach and the sea in the sun and gave a great start to the day, whether it be stopping at the hotel or venturing out..........paspalis has the capacity to be a REALLY good hotel ........some things just need a bit of tweaking
enjoyes it immensly
What can I say! Fantastic brilliant! Loved the hotel and the island. The Paspalis is a lovely hotel, clean bright and the owners cant do enough for you. As we stepped off the coach Nikos wife who owns the hotel came and helped me with a very large suitcase. What a superstar. We Had the best room in the hotel, room 43 overlooking the pool and sea and early in the morning watching the sun rise was magical. Food in the restaurant was very good. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis, even though it was basic it was substantial. I will definatly stay their again if every I go back to Kefelonia.
Best Greek Holiday ever.
My wife and I have stayed at Paspalis now for 3 years each summer. We are of course a little biased. WELL, WHY NOT ! Nikos and his wife make everyone welcome from the moment you step off the coach. Great varied Greek menu, great English speaking waiters and Bar Staff, and what a view! My wife had a knee injury 2 years ago and we had room 41 ( no thanks to Thompson I can tell you ) However, Nikos was superb ! ! ! Room 41 is a little behind room 43 ,and upstairs , but what a large room ! and a large "walk in shower." so no late night noise from the bar , but hey...... We're all on holiday right ? ? With everyone enjoying the food and atmosphere, how can you go wrong ? We have watched people walk from the town along to Paspalis, and say they will come back: : : And they do ! Night after night. There are great places to stay and eat on this island, but if you want great service, great staff, and a host that cares ( and not just because of the tourist trade ) come here. Talk to Nikos , buy him a drink in the evening , and learn what being a Greek Business man is all about . It is very popular , but push your travel agent to visit at least once. You will want to come back. My daughter gets married this year so ( NO WAY CAN WE AFFORD TO VISIT ) But 2006 we intend to contact Nikos, direct and arrange absolute bliss for 3 weeks.
Perfect Paspalis
This was our first visit to Kephalonia, and we picked the Paspalis Hotel because it appeared to have a good position. We were correct! An ideal location, on the beach with only a small road to cross, great views, only a short easy stroll to the village centre, but the restaurant was so good, with beautifull sunsets to watch, we never left for 2 weeks! Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner all taken al-fresco at the Paspalis. It was heaven. Nikos, the owner runs an efficient and friendly service. Everyone speaks english, but please do try to speak some Greek, even if it is only Efharisto (Thank you). We booked very early and were pleasantly surprised to get the best room in the place (Room 43) overlooking the pool and with direct views out to sea from our bed! We will be going back in the future, don't book earlier than us though, as we want room 43 again.
excellent hotel and location
(August 2003)Spent one week in the paspalis hotel, Skala, it wasn't enough. The rooms were very clean, hotel very well presented, great manager and staff. The hotel bar/restaurant looks right out onto the sea, and serves great food whatever time of the day. No bars next door or anything, so always peacefull. It was a pleasent 5-10 minute walk into centre of skala. Tried to book again for 2004, but no rooms available!
