Another view of the pool area from my terrace. The black sand beach is less than a block away from the hotel. A church just near the entrance to the hotel.

Although my partner and I were happy with this hotel,we were rather disappointed with the rather limited choice of breakfast. We were unaware that the hotel only served continental breakfast when we booked the holiday, and having stayed in numerous Greek hotels with the... more

Lovely hotel - probably has the best spot in Kamari in terms of views. Rooms are very spacious and all look out over the town and the sea. Rooms are spotless and there is maid service every day. The hotel is uphill and is also a maze of steps so it’s not for the... more

What a let down
Having arrived at the hotel we were greeted by friendly staff who ushered us to a room - A1. Upon arrival at the room we discovered that it was nothing other than a glorified basement with little light, very poor ventilation and a real musty smell about it. We complained quickly, to be met with an acknowledgement that indeed the room was substandard - it was as though the reception man had expected us to complain. We were promised a better room the next day (which we did get,and was quite comfortable for the remainder of our holiday ) but not before my husband and I had spent a very restless and fretful night in a very uncomfortable room with me throwing up through the night. Not a great start to our honeymoon and we did discover ( upon talking to other guests and observing what was going on) that the rooms A1 - 5 were being used as what amounted to be 'holding rooms' to ensure maximum occupancy- sometimes the unsuspecting guests having to spend up to 2 nights in these smelly, dank and stuffy basement rooms. The food was very sub-standard - we were only bed and breakfast - but that was bad enough. The range was poor and everything was luke warm or cold. The food ran out if you didn't get there in good time. The pool was ok but was smaller than portrayed on pictures on the internet site. Loads of people put their towels put on the sun loungers well before breakfast -meaning very few sunbeds available. Self catering facilities were totally inadequate and the rooms not cleaned to an acceptable standard. Rooms were not at all good for sound-proofing - we were opposite the bar area and subjected to constant, droning, repetitive music well into the evening. Basically your holiday totally depends on what room you end up in on the first evening. We really do condemn the use of these basement rooms until more substantial accommodation becomes available...it certainly got our backs up straight away. Kamari itself is a nice resort with a vast amount of restaurants and bars to suit all tastes and budgets. Expect an average meal to cost between 30 and 40 euros for 2 people. Excellent bus service into Fira and only 15 mins from Kamari. Fira is a special place to visit but would not recommend staying there for a whole week..could become quite monotonous. Would we return....no..have some happy memories but feel Santorini does ot give us the scope to ensure a really memorable week.
Not bad at all!!!!!!! (condem the wedding party!)
I have been back two weeks now and the fact I have the holiday blues is not a bad thing, so it must have been good. To be honest the hotel is in excellent condition and the decor nto bad either, in fact quite pleasant. The maid service was excellent and we had clean towels and our beds made everyday. Unfortunately the breakfast had no fresh fruite but apart from that the overall selection was good enough. The hotel position in relation to the water front was a two minute walk literally and you are spoilt for choice as far as the restaurants are concerned. The only couple of things I would say is "beware the wedding parties", occasionally they take over the pool, when they invite their friends!!!!! Dont let that put you off though it was a great holiday! Air traffic noise was minimal and we where there for two weeks so I think we would notice.
Excellent!
My husband and I stayed at the Aegean Plaza in May this year - we would not hesitate to stay there again, we had a brilliant holiday. The hotel was great - friendly staff, lovely, clean room, good pool area and great secret recipe cocktails! The Aegean is in a great location just away from the main street - close enough to be accessible, but not in your face. We loved Kamari and Santorini - it is beautiful!
disappointing
I spent 6 days there with my wife and two children. Nice pool, nice architecture, well situated near the beach. On the other hand, rooms are to small for 4 persons, mattresses are really AWFUL, soundproofing terrible and cheap furniture. Breakfast of poor quality, no fresh fruits, small buffet ... A so called "luxury" hotel which deserves only 2 stars on the western european scale.
Overbooked
Arrived on 5 June to be told hotel overbooked and rooms would not be available until 9 June, this affected at leat 14 people to our knowledge, and was caused by the number of wedding parties the hotel had staying there. Were eventually allocated rooms on the 9th. Signs around the pool area requested no reserving of sun loungers, however it was the first time I have experienced people placing towels on loungers the night before, the guilty parties being UK holidaymakers. The area in which the buffet breakfast was served was totally inadequate and invariably led to large queues forming. Brochures also advise guests may experience 'some aircraft noise'. This is the understatement of the year as at times it seems that you are sitting on the end of the runway, and when the military aircraft use the airport the noise can be deafening. On the plus side the hotel is clean and the girl serving at the pool bar performs wonders when it would appear it really needs 2 people here to deal with not only drink but food as well.
Yassos' Aegean!!!
Well, what can we say.......... everything was spot on! We attended a friends wedding and it was beautiful by the sunset very romantic. The rooms were fab! We upgraded to a Junior Suite which had two double beds, TV, Air-con, Hair-dryer and fridge. Balcony and own patio. Our room over-looked the pool. Rooms were cleaned everyday and the maids couldn't do enough for us. Staff at The Aegean were very helpful and considerate. There is the main swimming pool with a jacuzzi and a kids playpool. Breakfast was great but could've done with a bit more selection! The Beach, restuarants and Tavernas are all at your feet! You take a left out from the hotel and there is a strip of all your supermarkets and Souviner shops. The beach is shingle but you can still purchase sunbeds and umbrellas on there. The Sunset Sail excursion is a must! Ask your rep for more details but you sail out in the sunset and watch the sun go down. We are looking at booking it for 2008 as it was smashing! Thanks to all the staff at Aegean!
Fabtastic hotel
We have stayed at the Aegean Plaza hotel twice now and it is a great hotel - the location is fantastic as it is quiet but close to the beach. The pool area is nice and spacious with a separate splash pool for the kids so you can swim in the main pool without being bothered. The rooms are also spacious and very clean and the air conditioning is free - usually you have to pay extra for that so it's a real bonus. All of the staff were great - both on reception and the bar staff who always smile! Breakfast was ok - nothing amazing but there is a great selection - it can get quite busy though. The gym isn't fantastic - one treadmill that is manual, one bike and one cross trainer that is broken - there are some free weights though. We would definitely reccomend this hotel.
great hotel
stayed at this hotel in aug last year.its in a great location about 5 mins walk away from beach.only 15mins (aprox) drop off from airport.you may hear/see planes but for myself i did not mind and would not let it put me off.hotel is in quiet location close to shops and taverna's.rooms mainly face into pool area and are cleaned every day.my room had mini fridge which was essential in aug for keeping your drinks/makeup in.breakfast was good, food varies slightly each day and is catered to different european tastes.staff very friendly and the poolside bar serves food and snacks all day.will stay here again soon.santorini is a great island with great views and wonderful people.with some of the best sunsets in the world.give it a try soon.
Pleasantly surprised
Stayed for 14 nights as attending a friend's wedding and was really surpirsed at how much we enjoyed this holiday. After not taking a package deal for quite some years we were apprehensive at the quality the hotel would offer. We couldn't have been more surprised the location is excellent. The rooms were very clean and nicely decorated with a nice balcony overlooking the pool area (all rooms overlook the pool). The staff were very helpful and accomodating. On the down side the buffett breakfast was not great with not enough food for the number of guests and they regulary ran out of food. When we requested more cheese or ham, we we told there would be more tomorrow ! Generally the quality of the breakfast food was poor. Also there are lots of stray dogs in this resort - not the hotels fault, but they do sometimes get into the pool area at night which is not good. Despite this the bar snacks were good, relatively cheap and the service at the bar area during lunch times was very good. Pool area was beautiful and kept very clean. The beach in Kamari is horrid so you need to have a good pool area. Many of our friends stayed in different properties around Kamari and this was definitely the best. If you have children ask for a ground floor room, most of these have an additional bedroom and cooking facilities which makes life a bit easier.
conveniant and quite
Stayed 4 nights here with my wife mid October . Had originally booked with its sister hotel, Miramere Resort at Perisa which is the next beach south but they cancelled the booking two weeks prior to our arrival due to their earlier than expected closure for the winter break but they offered us this hotel or another sister hotel in Fira for the same original quoted rates. This change of plan was originally a little bit disconcerting but it was handled very professionally by the hotel via a series of emails and the end result was we stayed a great hotel in a very picturescue location. Room was big, clean and well presented.(fridge was a big bonus as all the local shops sell wine and beer at good prices) Lovely pool and sun deck area. Staff very helpful . Ask for an upstairs room and if possible one with ocean views. I would not recommend eating dinner here as we found their buffet one night extremely disappointing but there were still dozens of resturants to chose from along the beach promenade which is about a two minute walk. The beach is beautiful (but pebbly). You can hire a beach lounge and umbrella for a reasonable rate from several outlets. You can catch the regular local coach into Fira for some tourist shopping or slightly more action. Kamari in October is very peaceful and relaxing - Im sure it becomes very hectic here during the summer months. Santorini does tend to hibernate for the winter, especially the beach side towns. We drove down to Perisa and 95% of the town had already closed down. Kamari had about 33% of its hotels and shops closed down with many more expected to close before the end of October. But this did not prevent us having a great time in Kamari and Santorini would rate as a highlight of our trip.
