" Cheap and Cheerful "

My partner and I were at Micheangelo's for two weeks this August. Having holidayed in Greece many times, I knew what to expect. The staff were very friendly (especially Spiros and Amy who run the bar, the lovely lady in the shop and Sharon the Thomson rep; oh yeah, and Flora and Claudia). The apartment was bog standard, however, that is what we paid for. We were in an 'old' apartment. It was small, the toilet was stinky(before we got there). The self-catering facilities were not great, but they rarely are. The cleaners became a rare sight after the first week. The stray cats and dogs were relaxed and not intimidating in the least. The mozzies were silent but violent. The wasps were a nuisance. Our Olympic rep said that the water was drinkable. DON'T DRINK THE WATER! It tastes like the sea.
However,we both had a lovely, relaxing time with no unrealistic expectations. Greece is Greece and is a beautiful country. I would rate the Michaelangelo apartments if you like a laid back, peaceful holiday.

Advice: bring your shades

Activities: michelangelo restaurant

" BASIC AND DIRTY "

I booked this holiday for myself, husband and 2 teenage daughters, the Accomodation was dirty there was mould growing in the bathroom, the bed linen and towels were smelly and there was hardly any kitchen utensils which is ridiculous in self catering.
The floors had dust, hairs and bits all over in fact it did not look as if this apartment had been cleaned at all.
Upon our arrival on the monday we saw that the bathroom had no window so we contacted reception straight away but were told that the previous people had broken it but they could not get it repaired before the Tuesday, however it took several more visits to reception and up to the Thursday to get it fixed.
There was a pack of 5 dogs that were wandering about the complex all week and one of them was "on heat2 so we were subject to dogs howlig for hours on end fighting amongst each other and on 2 days 3 of them mating round the pool with the [--].
again we complained several times but were told that they were strays and that they could not control them and that it was the fault of the Holiday makers for feeding them and nothing could be done. These dogs were big dogs and were vicious and were barking at and preventing Holiday makers from getting sun beds round the pool, it was a frightening time for lots of us.
At night we were subject to quad bikes and scooters revving and speeding through the complex at very high speeds despite it being a 20mph zone, they seemed to be using the complex as a race circuit and were again told that "nothing could be done.
the Holiday was a nightmare and I would not recommend this resort to anyone and it is most definately not worth the 3 thomson suns that they have graded it at I`d be pushed to give it 1,Never again
The only good thing this week was the weather !!!!!!

Advice: beautiful harbour, poor accomodation

Activities: Tex mex in the square and mythos on the site

Good for: Beach

" Huge Disappointment "

We booked a two bedroom apartment on the Thomson website. The accommodation had old and dated fixtures and fittings in poor condition. Grubby and stained throughout.
Marketed as three stars, but in reality this is only very basic one star accommodation.
Kassiopi is lovely area of Corfu – don’t spoil your holiday by booking the Michelangelo Village Apartments - a huge disappointment.

" A Favourite Holiday... "

My partner and I (both 23) were both really impressed with Michaelangelo Village Hotel in Kassiopi and we loved our time there, so much that we both want to go back! We were lucky enough to stay in the newest apartment block and our room was clean, modern, fresh and spacious and reminded me of a 4* hotel. Our balcony overlooked the beautiful greek countryside. The only downside was you have to pay 5 euros per day for air-con in the room. The main pool (the largest of the 4) was just next door, alongside a newly built restaurant. The whole "village" was down a lane that led to a beach, off a main road into Kassiopi which is about 15 mins walk away. In Michaelangelo Village the various apartments/ bungalow blocks sit prettily amoung flowers and trees, with a restaurant, bar, reception, tennis courts, children's area and the swimming pools all off the lane - all very handy to have around. Because it is set away from the town a bit, its a peaceful location to stay.
Kassiopi itself was such a lovely place to go. We'd read reviews that it was lovely, but you never quite know whether it'll be the same for you...but it was. We loved it. When we were there it was just the right kind of busy - it wasn't a ghost town or sooo quiet that it was boring, but it wasn't crowded or noisey either. It had lots of shops and loads of restaurants and a beautiful harbour surrounded by more restaurants and bars. But its not a really lively noisey place - although there is a club and one sports/ cocktail bar by the harbour which we went to every night "Illusions" which plays loud cheesey kind of music - but generally it was quite a chilled out, typically Greek and decent place to be. There was no water sports, being a harbour, but you could hire boats and bikes/ quads/ buggies. There was a lovely walk off the harbour up a hill and pass lots of little pebbly beaches and coves, with beautiful sunsets in the evenings.
The food was great. Not expensive either. We only had one meal which wasn't so good both by quantity and quality (a bit greasy) but every other place we ate was really nice. My only disappointment a bit was that most meals didn't say what they came with and when they arrived...CHIPS.
So I give the holiday a 9 out of 10! :)

" What a relief! "

Like others here I was horrified, with only 2 weeks to go before our holiday, to read awful reviews of this accomodation. So when we arrived and were shown into our appartment by it's owner, my husband and I were so relieved!
We had a two room (4 bed) apartment - for a bit of extra room. The apartments are not new, and show reasonable signs of wear and repair. As with other apartments we've stayed in on Corfu, they have plain white walls, stone tiled floors, and plain dark wood furniture and fitments. The kitchen area was very small, with integrated fridge, two ring hob and sink, plus cupboards and breakfast type bar. Also a kettle which you don't always get. This was as described by the brochure and was fine for breakfast and snacks. Our balony overlooked both the pool, and over the complex to Avlaki bay and Albania beyond. We were not expecting any sea view, so this was nice.
The most important thing I must stress is that the apartment was CLEAN! The floors, the towels, the bedding, the fridge - everything was clean. 6 days out of 7 two very pleasant maids cleaned the rooms. Towels were changed twice a week, bedding once a week. We were told at reception that if we needed more items of linen just go and ask.
The only minor inconvenience was that with the shower tray in the bathroom emptying very slowly (Greek plumbing) and the design of the shower it's inevitable that water gets on the floor and the drain in the floor is slightly raised so the bathroom floor remains wet. They've tried to counter this by providing a mat. We used the mop and bucket positioned outside the appartment door to get rid of the water after showering. The floor soon dried.
Air conditioning and safety deposit boxes are extra, but that is the norm.
Olympic now have their own reception at Michaelangelo and from 9am to 9pm it is manned by either the lady owner or her assistant, Claudia. Both were very friendly and very helpful. The Olympic Rep, Jo, posted her hours of attendance on a noticeboard outside reception, and she was always there when she said she would be, and always very helpful. The only problem we had was that the light didn't seem to work in the bathroom. My husband reported this to Claudia at reception. she said "Fine, I'll get someone out to you now - but do you mind if I take a look first?" She came back with him straight away and located the light switch hidden behind a curtain! But at least it was dealt with immediately.
The pool and pool area was cleaned nightly, the water quality tested and chemicals added regularly - we had a birds eye view.
There is an on-site supermarket which is reasonably priced with very friendly staff. The lady owner commented to me that everyone there was like family. There is a bar, snack bar and a nice taverna running along the road that bisects the "village". This road runs down to Avlaki bay and Agios Stefanos beyond and is used by local traffic. This does include the odd lorry, as they are building some new villas on the way to Avlaki. There is a beach five minutes down the road but it is stony, so take beach shoes.
Comment was made about dogs at Michaelangelo. There are three friendly dogs around who don't bother anyone and are well cared for. they might accompany you into Kassiopi but are never a nuicance.
Kassiopi is 10 minutes walk away (down a hill on the way there, up on the way back!) and a new pavement has been installed along the main road. A free little shuttle "train" is now available to take you from the top of the hill down into the harbour - and back again, should you not feel like walking it. In the day Kassiopi is busy with tourists and boats and is a good place to watch the world and the boats go by. There are a couple of walkable shingle beaches nearby. At night Kassiopi livens up but was not "clubby" as I'd expected. Everyone socialises at night when it's cool, especially the locals and their children. There are tavernas and bars to suit everyone and it's a good place to people-watch, eat and shop.

Advice: good base to explore Corfu, hire boats, take trips. Has a lively family atmosphere.

Activities: Exploring inaccessible beaches by boat and the rest of the island by car.

" anniversary "

Myself and my husband booked a holiday with olympic for 11nights from the 25th may till the 6th june,to stay at the Michaelangelo Village Apartments.
We set off and arrived at the airport in time for our flight which was booked for 11a.m. When we got through the through the check in we found out that our flight had been delayed but wasn't told how long for, we had to keep checking the screens.
We checked at 11 only to be told to check at 12pm for more information, we checked at 12 and told to check at 1pmand so this went on. We were eventually told that the flight was delayed untill 7pm that evening, we were given a £10 food voucher each. When we arrived at our apartments at 03.15am. we had already missed 1 of our 11 nights holiday.
The apartment was basic but cleanish, the beds were clean and so were the towels, at 10 am the cleaners knocked on the door to clean our room ( the managment should have told them about the delay which would have prevented them coming to clean the room.)
Overall the apartments wer'nt that bad the pool and pool area was clean ( although there was the odd bug or two in there at times.)during our stay my husband saw a rat but only one. the staff were helpful and our rep joanne was brill. on our last day we had to pay 35euros to move to another room till we were picked up at 02.45. kassiopi in generalis a nice place and the locals are very friendly. we met some nice people, english and greek.
a big hello to jasmin bar and one for the road we had some good nights there.

Advice: nice and friendly place to go for a holiday

Activities: jasmin bar, one for the road, tex mex, and many others.

Good for: Beach

" No Complaints "

Just back from a week at the michelangelo village. Initially given the wrong room as we ordered a two bedroomed apartment and were given a one bedroom appt. Next day Nellie upgraded us to a two bedroomed maisonette. Each room had its own large shower/toilet room newly refurbished and both had a very large balcony with lovely views. Bed mattresses a bit hard and linen had seen better days but room clean and bins emptied regularly. Complex very clean and tidy with no signs of rats anywhere. Weather in the 80's and pool areas very quiet as just the start of the season but that was a bonus. It seems to me those who have complained on the reviews had booked with Olympic holidays and I had booked with Thompson and was very satisfied.

Advice: Beautiful harbour, good choice of restaurants, no yobboes and suitable for young families.

Activities: Janis restaurant in Kassiopi very good and the horseriding good fun.

Good for: Beach

" The whole description of these... "

The whole description of these apartments and the rating is totally misleading. We arrived 8.00 am on the Saturday morning and the room was dirty. The floor had not been cleaned, the bathroom looked like it had never seen a touch of cleaner, the towels and the bedding can only be described as disgusting. Unfortunately this was to be the case for the entire holiday. We did not receive clean towels and the bedding was never changed. We had lumps of unknown substanstances appearing on our bathroom floor!! The cutlery was growing it's own fungus. The toilet bins were left to over flow and never emptied .. which can only be described as a hygiene disaster. Once they get you to the apartment everything you need is an additional cost .. the safe deposit box, the air conditioning, the sunbeds and despite paying for 7 nights accommodation we were asked to vacate our room by 12.00 noon on the friday when we were not being collected until 1.40 am on the Saturday for our flight. If we wished to retain our room it would be an extra cost of 35 euros. This means we had now paid for 8 nights accommodation and only received 7 plus even though we paid to keep our room we were still forced to vacate by 6.30 pm Friday evening. Our Olympic rep was never to be seen and the reception staff only understood when you were paying for additional services.

" We booked a holiday with Olympic this... "

We booked a holiday with Olympic this year for the end of August until September 8th, 3 star self-catering. Unfortunately I can not recommend neither Olympic holidays nor the accomodation itself, the Michelangelo Appartments. The rooms were said to be basic, which is what you expect when booking 3 star. Unfortunately they were not only basic, but run-down and dirty. The towels and bedsheets were already dirty when we arrived, the walls had mould on them, we were unable to make use of the kitchenette since first of all there was an insufficient amount of plates and cutlery, and secondly the cooker, the fridge etc. looked very old and seemed not to have been cleaned since a long time. The fridge still had carryovers of butter etc. in it.

The bathroom floor was dirty, the walls, floor, shower (showerhead) etc. were mouldy and half-broken, there was pubic hair on the floor and a big green bogey on the sink, which was probably the most disgusting thing we discovered in our room where we were supposed to relax and enjoy our holiday.

The mattresses were very old and seemed to only consist of metal and plastic. We had asked for a double bed and got two single beds, but this was one of our more insignificant problems.

After being shocked about the state of the room at our arrival, we spoke to the manager who promised to send the cleaner round. After that our room still looked the same, the cleaner seemed incapable of cleaning rooms, all she ever did was empty the bins.

We then spoke to our Rep who arranged for us to change rooms within the complex, which we did not expect much of since the main problem of the Michelangelo complex is the fact that it is dirty, and the cleaner is the same one for all the appartments. After about one week we were allowed to change rooms. Our new room which was one out of two newly build appartments was obviously more modern and we felt a lot more comfortable, still the room was dirty and had not been cleaned properly, also the towels and bedsheets were dirty at our arrival. The managers of the Michelangelo appartment seem to regard it as a good idea to throw used towels and bedsheets on the floor outside before they get transported to the laundry. The floor outside consists of dusty gravel and is the floor that everybody walks on, including streetdogs with skin rashes.
After changing rooms we decided to clean our new appartment ourselves before using the bathroom or the kitchen facilities, which is obviously not what you expect or look forward to doing when going on holiday.

After our disappointing experience there which we had obviously paid money for and looked forward to since it is the main holiday of the year where you expect to relax in a friendly and clean environment, I must say that the Michelangelo appartments are not 3 star, not even two star, from what we experienced they are of the standard of a run-down, dirty youth hostel. I have taken pictures of the mould on the walls and the state of the kitchenette and bathroom.

Unfortunately the managers and owners of the Michelangelo Appartments seem to have no pride in what they do.

Other than that, Corfu is a beautiful island which we discovered by car and boat which we hired. Kassiopi is a nice little village, originally a fishing village but now unfortunately mainly tourism-orientated, but still enjoyable and not half as bad as Kavos in the South of the island. We can recommend the beaches between Nissaki and Agios Stefanos, they are quiet and peaceful, with lovely white pebbles and clear blue water, some of them are very remote and not crowded with people and tavernas. the best thing is probably to discover the island and all its little coves by boat. Also we highly recommend the restaurant "Yiannis" in Kassiopi, located at one of the main beaches, it offers a relaxing atmosphere, the waiters are very friendly and the food is good. Also we recommend a restaurant which we forgot the name of, it is located at the left angle of the harbour, a little walk up the hill, the last restaurant in the row. We enjoyed the best food there.

" 4th time back in Kassiopi having... "

4th time back in Kassiopi having visited many Greek Isles. Much has changed since our last visit 3 years ago, the town has become very commercialised and lost it's 'old Greek Charm' that was once evident in this small fishing village. That said the locals are very friendly although the prices particularly food and soft drinks have rocketed. Typical price is 2 euros for a small glass of coke, the same as a glass of Mythos, water varies from 0.50 up to 2 euros for a small bottle. Eating out is reasonable but again choose carefully as a meal for 4 can cost 70 euros including drinks. There is lots for the kids and teenagers alike here, ours spent a lot of time playing pool and in the various internet cafes. The Harbour area is lovely as are the walks off the beaten track around this area. We hired a car and a Jeep during our stay and would recommend this to anyone wanting to see the real Corfu. We visited Sidari, Paleo, Dassia, Ipsos, Acharavi, Roda and of course a full day shopping in Corfu Town. The Villages inland are beautiful and a chance to see 'old Greece' with the little old ladies passing time with you and of course the locals selling their home made produces. We stayed at the Michaelangelo appartments and we definately had the best apartmemt. Our balcony overlooked 2 pools and the complex is made up of many new buildings and 2 other pools. The facilities are brilliant, the supermarket on site was a bonus and the owner was wonderful and helpful. The Rooms were spacious compared to others we have stopped in on other islands. The rooms however were too hot, typically 30 degrees at night. We paid for air conditioning, but at 80 euros for the week felt this was expensive (we had 2 rooms). Bar staff were attentive and food was excellent. Only things I would have changed would have been the Bathroom needed re-tiling as now tatty and get rid of the wasps, a nuisance when you are eating. We will be returning here, definate overall 9 out of 10

" If you want 18-30s stuff, Kassiopi is... "

If you want 18-30s stuff, Kassiopi is not for you. However, if you're after a quiet family holiday resort with excellent facilities, Michelangelo Apartments have everything you need. Pools are excellent although you have to pay for sunbed hire at the largest, but that does include a 'free' drink. Rooms are basic (as with most of Greece) but serviced daily by friendly staff. There are two supermarkets within minutes and a good restaurant and bar on site. Entertainment is arranged most evenings, but if you want to escape the Greek dancing, then Kassiopi town is a 10 minute walk, where you will find a range of restaurants and bars together with a good selection of shops. We booked with Olympic Holidays and stayed on the southern end of the complex and have no complaints. All of the staff were polite, helpful and friendly and we would not hesitate to return or recommend the resort to friends.

" Just got back from the Mihcealangelo... "

Just got back from the Mihcealangelo village apartments took 2 teenages with us one 19 and one 17 they loved it the staff treated them as adults, the staff were excellent with them and us. The 2 rooms were very basic but what can you expect in corfu????.
The maid came and cleaned the rooms 6 of the 7 days when we were there I'd say that is a good service. The staff in the snack bar were great the food was good and very cheap the lads in the bar would keep it open when we wanted a late drink again service to please anyones needs. Read the comments on this web site before we went was a little worried to say the least but all I can say to the people who have gone out of their way to slate this place they need to start booking holidays in England and see the what they get here. This place I would recommend to anyone don't always believe what you read obviously there is no pleasing some people. If you are going to here or anywhere in Corfu go with an open mind and enjoy the people and the place it's brilliant WOULD GO BACK THERE ANYTIME
