The whole description of these...

Sep 2008, Mrs Joanne Rice

The whole description of these apartments and the rating is totally misleading. We arrived 8.00 am on the Saturday morning and the room was dirty. The floor had not been cleaned, the bathroom looked like it had never seen a touch of cleaner, the towels and the bedding can only be described as disgusting. Unfortunately this was to be the case for the entire holiday. We did not receive clean towels and the bedding was never changed. We had lumps of unknown substanstances appearing on our bathroom floor!! The cutlery was growing it's own fungus. The toilet bins were left to over flow and never emptied .. which can only be described as a hygiene disaster. Once they get you to the apartment everything you need is an additional cost .. the safe deposit box, the air conditioning, the sunbeds and despite paying for 7 nights accommodation we were asked to vacate our room by 12.00 noon on the friday when we were not being collected until 1.40 am on the Saturday for our flight. If we wished to retain our room it would be an extra cost of 35 euros. This means we had now paid for 8 nights accommodation and only received 7 plus even though we paid to keep our room we were still forced to vacate by 6.30 pm Friday evening. Our Olympic rep was never to be seen and the reception staff only understood when you were paying for additional services.

We booked a holiday with Olympic this...

Sep 2008, nova4444

We booked a holiday with Olympic this year for the end of August until September 8th, 3 star self-catering. Unfortunately I can not recommend neither Olympic holidays nor the accomodation itself, the Michelangelo Appartments. The rooms were said to be basic, which is what you expect when booking 3 star. Unfortunately they were not only basic, but run-down and dirty. The towels and bedsheets were already dirty when we arrived, the walls had mould on them, we were unable to make use of the kitchenette since first of all there was an insufficient amount of plates and cutlery, and secondly the cooker, the fridge etc. looked very old and seemed not to have been cleaned since a long time. The fridge still had carryovers of butter etc. in it.
The bathroom floor was dirty, the walls, floor, shower (showerhead) etc. were mouldy and half-broken, there was pubic hair on the floor and a big green bogey on the sink, which was probably the most disgusting thing we discovered in our room where we were supposed to relax and enjoy our holiday.
The mattresses were very old and seemed to only consist of metal and plastic. We had asked for a double bed and got two single beds, but this was one of our more insignificant problems.
After being shocked about the state of the room at our arrival, we spoke to the manager who promised to send the cleaner round. After that our room still looked the same, the cleaner seemed incapable of cleaning rooms, all she ever did was empty the bins.
We then spoke to our Rep who arranged for us to change rooms within the complex, which we did not expect much of since the main problem of the Michelangelo complex is the fact that it is dirty, and the cleaner is the same one for all the appartments. After about one week we were allowed to change rooms. Our new room which was one out of two newly build appartments was obviously more modern and we felt a lot more comfortable, still the room was dirty and had not been cleaned properly, also the towels and bedsheets were dirty at our arrival. The managers of the Michelangelo appartment seem to regard it as a good idea to throw used towels and bedsheets on the floor outside before they get transported to the laundry. The floor outside consists of dusty gravel and is the floor that everybody walks on, including streetdogs with skin rashes.
After changing rooms we decided to clean our new appartment ourselves before using the bathroom or the kitchen facilities, which is obviously not what you expect or look forward to doing when going on holiday.
After our disappointing experience there which we had obviously paid money for and looked forward to since it is the main holiday of the year where you expect to relax in a friendly and clean environment, I must say that the Michelangelo appartments are not 3 star, not even two star, from what we experienced they are of the standard of a run-down, dirty youth hostel. I have taken pictures of the mould on the walls and the state of the kitchenette and bathroom.
Unfortunately the managers and owners of the Michelangelo Appartments seem to have no pride in what they do.
Other than that, Corfu is a beautiful island which we discovered by car and boat which we hired. Kassiopi is a nice little village, originally a fishing village but now unfortunately mainly tourism-orientated, but still enjoyable and not half as bad as Kavos in the South of the island. We can recommend the beaches between Nissaki and Agios Stefanos, they are quiet and peaceful, with lovely white pebbles and clear blue water, some of them are very remote and not crowded with people and tavernas. the best thing is probably to discover the island and all its little coves by boat. Also we highly recommend the restaurant "Yiannis" in Kassiopi, located at one of the main beaches, it offers a relaxing atmosphere, the waiters are very friendly and the food is good. Also we recommend a restaurant which we forgot the name of, it is located at the left angle of the harbour, a little walk up the hill, the last restaurant in the row. We enjoyed the best food there.

4th time back in Kassiopi having...

4th time back in Kassiopi having visited many Greek Isles. Much has changed since our last visit 3 years ago, the town has become very commercialised and lost it's 'old Greek Charm' that was once evident in this small fishing village. That said the locals are very friendly although the prices particularly food and soft drinks have rocketed. Typical price is 2 euros for a small glass of coke, the same as a glass of Mythos, water varies from 0.50 up to 2 euros for a small bottle. Eating out is reasonable but again choose carefully as a meal for 4 can cost 70 euros including drinks. There is lots for the kids and teenagers alike here, ours spent a lot of time playing pool and in the various internet cafes. The Harbour area is lovely as are the walks off the beaten track around this area. We hired a car and a Jeep during our stay and would recommend this to anyone wanting to see the real Corfu. We visited Sidari, Paleo, Dassia, Ipsos, Acharavi, Roda and of course a full day shopping in Corfu Town. The Villages inland are beautiful and a chance to see 'old Greece' with the little old ladies passing time with you and of course the locals selling their home made produces. We stayed at the Michaelangelo appartments and we definately had the best apartmemt. Our balcony overlooked 2 pools and the complex is made up of many new buildings and 2 other pools. The facilities are brilliant, the supermarket on site was a bonus and the owner was wonderful and helpful. The Rooms were spacious compared to others we have stopped in on other islands. The rooms however were too hot, typically 30 degrees at night. We paid for air conditioning, but at 80 euros for the week felt this was expensive (we had 2 rooms). Bar staff were attentive and food was excellent. Only things I would have changed would have been the Bathroom needed re-tiling as now tatty and get rid of the wasps, a nuisance when you are eating. We will be returning here, definate overall 9 out of 10

If you want 18-30s stuff, Kassiopi is not for you. However, if you're after a quiet family holiday resort with excellent facilities, Michelangelo Apartments have everything you need. Pools are excellent although you have to pay for sunbed hire at the largest, but that does include a 'free' drink. Rooms are basic (as with most of Greece) but serviced daily by friendly staff. There are two supermarkets within minutes and a good restaurant and bar on site. Entertainment is arranged most evenings, but if you want to escape the Greek dancing, then Kassiopi town is a 10 minute walk, where you will find a range of restaurants and bars together with a good selection of shops. We booked with Olympic Holidays and stayed on the southern end of the complex and have no complaints. All of the staff were polite, helpful and friendly and we would not hesitate to return or recommend the resort to friends.

Just got back from the Mihcealangelo village apartments took 2 teenages with us one 19 and one 17 they loved it the staff treated them as adults, the staff were excellent with them and us. The 2 rooms were very basic but what can you expect in corfu????.
The maid came and cleaned the rooms 6 of the 7 days when we were there I'd say that is a good service. The staff in the snack bar were great the food was good and very cheap the lads in the bar would keep it open when we wanted a late drink again service to please anyones needs. Read the comments on this web site before we went was a little worried to say the least but all I can say to the people who have gone out of their way to slate this place they need to start booking holidays in England and see the what they get here. This place I would recommend to anyone don't always believe what you read obviously there is no pleasing some people. If you are going to here or anywhere in Corfu go with an open mind and enjoy the people and the place it's brilliant WOULD GO BACK THERE ANYTIME

Like others before I was concerned,...

Sep 2008, Mr P Harrison

Like others before I was concerned, after reading some previous comments, about my first stay at the michael angelo appartments. We were booked through Portland ( Thompson) and my family of wife and two sons aged 14 and 7 thoroughly enjoyed our fortnight stay.
Our 1 bed apartment was basic but clean and was regularly cleaned by the maid - although camper beds are uncomfortable. The air conditioning was a god send - but at an extra charge of 140 euros for 2 weeks. The pools were never overcrowded and the supermarket offered good value for money. All staff were really pleasant and helpful.
The location is as described - a ten minute walk to the harbour in hilly terrain - a steep uphill walk back. Harbour is great, plenty of choice of bars and restaurants with Janis the stand out place to eat for that special occasion.
All in all a really relaxing time - sons made friends,- in a peaceful central location.

After reading some of the reviews...

Aug 2008, Mr M Player

After reading some of the reviews before our holiday, we were naturally quite concerned and therefore wished to express our views after returning home.
On arrival we were personally escorted to the apartment [not given directions as at previous places we have stayed at!]. The apartment had two bedrooms with plenty of room and loads of storage for clothes etc, a basic kitchenette and shower room.
The apartment was at the rear of the village, it had a large balcony with both sea and mountain views and was pleasant to sit each morning to eat breakfast.
We did find the mattresses too hard though for a pleasant sleep.
The three pools are quite small but there is a new larger pool just down the road, however here they do charge for the use of sunbeds. Although we found just by walking a little further down the road there is a nice aparthotel [Katia] with a pool open to non residents with no charges for sunbeds.
All the staff were very helpful and speak English fluently.
The supermarket offers good value and was generally cheaper than the town shops.
On reflection we have just had a lovely week away, with fantastic weather, loads of great local cuisine in a great location and we would recommend people to book here
[But probably through Thomson]
ps, take some "Croc" shoes or similar because the local beaches are very stoney!

We have just got back from our...

May 2008, Mrs R Whittall

We have just got back from our holiday to Kassiopi where we stayed in the Michelangelo apartments. The complex is split by a road. We were in a one bedroom apartment which overlooked the road and there was surprisingly a lot of lorries using the road. We were never sure where they were going because the road lead down to Avlaki Beach which was extremely quiet. The apartments were basic as is usual with Greece but had all the necessary equipment that was needed for light snacks. The apartment and complex was kept extremely tidy and clean. Clean bedding and towels at least every other day. The only complaint about the bathroom was that the shower curtain was not long enough and the bathroom tended to get flooded. There is an on site supermarket which stocks all essentials, nice bar and restaurant with excellent food. All the staff from reception, bar and shop were extremely helpful.
The complex was approximately a pleasant 10-15 minute walk to Kassiopi which has a lovely harbour and many eating places ranging from Greek Tavernas to english breakfasts. There is a selection of shops to browse around, and a few music bars. It is a nice resort for all ages, and a good base to visit other parts of the island. It is worth hiring a car and this can be done locally from the agents in Kassiopi where you can also book boat and coach trips to other parts of the island. I must mention the trip to Paxos and Parga, absolutely stunning and a nice relaxing day. We visited several other resorts and the only downside with Kassiopi is that the prices seem slightly higher here than in some other resorts, other than this the holiday was brilliant.

Mar 2008, Miss S Turner

I am 15 years old and i think i should leave a comment from a child point of view.
To be hoestly true that was the best family holiday ever. It was not dirty, not uncomfortable and all the staff were freindly.
We had a apartment with 2 bedrooms and a spare bed in the living quarters, of which i slept in. It was quiet day and night, with mild noise around the pool but that is excepted because it is a holiday.
The restuarnt delievered what we required in the best standards of food. The 3 pools were suitable for a family of 5. My little sister ( who is 7 years old) joyfully learnt to swim in them. The beach was in walking distance and we always went down there.
However the town it's self was a tipical greek town. Little beachs surounded it and good quality shops near by. The night life was amasing and the locals enjoyed our company.
This resort met all our standards for a family of 5 and our grandparents. We happily left and now are going to return the same time next year. In fct it is already booked.
thank alots to everyone at these apartments.

Feb 2008, Mrs E Mann

After having read some of the comments on this page I felt I had to put my own review down. I feel some people expect the same conditions/standards that they get at home - you are in Greece with their way of life. I have been staying at the Michelangelo for nearly 15 years now, sometimes twice a year. It is clean, quiet and well run. The woman that runs the supermarket is actually the owner of the complex and she and her husband Michael will sort any problems that you may have - just ask! Their daughter Nellie is in charge at the reception. The bar and restaurant are run by Emilios who employs the staff for both. The entertainment is always good, just sitting in the bar and watching the day go by is great. I have never had a problem with dirty bedding, apartment or anything else. The person who made comment about people shouting and swearing at the pool - a quiet word in their ear and I am sure it could have been resolved as some people dont know how to behave on holiday. We had noisy people above us one year, and after a word with them and the owners, it was sorted. These apartments are for couples, young families and older couples, not for a crowd or young people and that is their delight! I am going back again in June, so I think that says a lot -
I certainly would not return to apartments that were badly run or dirty. I got married in Corfu three years ago and held our reception in the bar of the Michelangelo, so I think that should say it all.
