i have just got back from michaelangelo village in kassiopi,in one word to describe this hotel is disgraceful. when we arrived at the hotel at 5.30in the morning there was no one to show us to our room and we had to wait for at least an hour until someone came to give us a key! bearing in mind we was travelling with children and we arrived in a storm. Finally being shown to our room i thought things couldnt get any worse but they did. The two bedroomed apartment was small, the beds looked like childrens beds low to the floor and felt like u was sleeping on the floor they was that hard! the room was disgusting, mould all over the curtains, the whole apartment stank, we stayed for 1 week and our room didnt get cleaned at all for our stay! our bedding was filthy we didnt get clean towels the overall room was disgusting and dirty.the staff at michaelangelo are very ignorant and all they seem to want of you is money.on our first day we asked to be moved rooms but they said that all rooms was like ours so we decided to put up with it for a week.the hotel facilities are expensive to use tennis is 15euros for 1hr which is a joke,we didnt book our holiday to michaelangelo we booked to bella vista but got a letter to say we had been moved to michaelangelo as bella vista was no longer in use! they mayaswell of sent us to a cheap dirty bed and breakfast in blackpool as this is what the hotel was like.kassiopi itself is a really lovely place and i have been going for many years!our holiday rep andy said that all accomadation in kassiopi is like michaelangelo!(this is a lie i have been to kassiopi 14times and stayed in much better accomadation before)if you have booked to michaelangelo i would change it straightaway as this place is a joke! staff are very rude and ignorant, kassiopi is great! michaelangelo needs shutting down!

  • Advice: kassiopi is a very nice place, great for families i have been many times! dont book michealangelo

As my friend was getting married in Kassiopi there was about 20 odd of us staying at Michelangelo, it wasn't until the week before that I found the reviews on here and started to shop for cleaning stuff!
When we arrived we were shown to our room by Nellie the owner, we were very relieved to be shown to the new part which is modern and luckily clean when we arrived. The apartment is situated in a block with 4 floors, a very steep slope leads to the apartments with steps at the side, so any mobility issues would have to be taken into account.
We booked for 2 adults and 3 children, our apartment consisted of a bathroom of average size, modern and clean, a main room that had 3 beds in it, a wardrobe and all kitchen equipment hob, fridge, toaster etc., and dining table, no window as such only a skylight in it which made it quite dark. The main bedroom which we had a comfy double bed, dressing table, wardrobe and plenty of storage space, also 2 bedside tables. There was a spacious balcony with a table and 4 chairs and a clothes airer to dry clothes on. Nellie told me it was a 4 star rating, although very modern I wouldn't agree with this for my particular room, although I did see the bride and grooms accommodation upstairs which consisted of a very large main room, 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, also a very large terrace as this was the room at the top of the block, this was 4 star.
When the cleaners came to our room, in one week they changed our towels once and didn't change the bedding at all! They emptied the toilet bin everyday and left us a toilet roll everyday, but did absolutely no cleaning and didn't even make the beds!
The village itself is self sustaining for people not wanting to trek anywhere, the supermarket sells everything you need at reasonable prices so you could leave most things 'cosmetic' until you get here, shower gel and shampoo etc. A little tip, don't go to the bar for drinks if you are by the pool, just nip across the road to the supermarket, 7-up cans at the bar 2 euro and at the supermarket 65 cents. The bars are reasonable, although I would highly recommend the one further up the road as they put all balloons up and got a cake with candles, decoration bomb and free champagne for my friend the day after her wedding, all without telling her, they told us all to come in and gave her a lovely party, they are genuine lovely people, they even gave them both plates to smash from their kitchen after learning the plate smashing at her wedding fell through. They also have free internet there and the beer prices are cheaper than the one lower down.
There are 4 pools there, although they would not open up the main pool as it was so quiet which was a pain, we had the 3 little ones which meant that due to the high number of us, we couldn't all meet up at the same pool. When my friend and her husband went over in September last year they were assured that the pool, bar and restaurant would be open and included in the price, they paid the price but would not open the promised facilities. Also no one was about when my friend arrived so they had no room to sleep in due to a delayed flight! They found a room with an open window and slept in there for the night (they also have 2 children). Something else worth adding, when the booking was agreed last year it was always for the new block, when they got there they had to stay in the old block for a week (they stayed a week before us aswell), they were told they would not open the new bit for us all as a Thompson booking had fallen through, after a week of arguing and threatening a mass cancellation, they backed down.
We had our breakfast at the bar everyday which was fine, big English breakfast for 6.50 euro although you can get it for about 4 euro in Kassiopi villiage. All the staff we found very friendly but there seemed to be an undercurrent that we picked up on, Nellie against the whole staff!
We didn't see any strays wandering about and the traffic that flows through the village was not a problem at all, even with 3 children.
A point worth adding, this was booked direct with Nellie and not through a tour operator - although it was a group booking. They wanted our room at 10am, we were flying at 6am the next morning (we didn't book the room), we offered to pay the rate for another night but they wanted an extra 20 euros and would only give it us until 7pm- rubbish, we gave them the key back at 10am.
In summary, the accommodation was OK - nice and modern, bit small and needed a clean during the week, we definitely wanted clean laundry and didn't get it and clean towels more often would have been nice. Would I stay there again, NO!
Kassiopi is beautiful and we are going again, hopefully in September (3 months to save up :0) and we are going to stay in Kassiopi at other apartments as we just felt that all they wanted at Michelangelo was our money, we have been recommended Phillipos apartments as someone from our group stayed there and loved it with no complaints. Kassiopi although very Greek is geared up for the Brits but not in a tacky 'Benidorm' way, everyone speaks English and are all very friendly and accommodating. The harbour is georgous and lots of little shops to get your trinkets. We loved it and so did the children.

  • Advice: Kassiopi beautiful, Michelangelo OK but chambermaid service is rubbish.

holiday at michael angelo We booked half board
first i will say i am telling it like it is . No lies , no rubbishing a place when there is no need
here goes
we were booked for a 2 bedroom apartment . we arrived fairly late because we had a delay.. The girl that came to check us in . was indifferent and was not really bothered at all . i asked if we had a 2 bedroom and she said yes....she opened the door of our apartment said"have a good holiday"" and she was gone.. now, we had a one bedroom apt with 2 beds in!! there was another bed in the ""lounge" ....
We decided it would do ..
Next morning we went to breakfast....2eggs on bread, spoonful of beans , watery orange juice, tea.. that was it, no choice given
I said to my husband ""well it,s passable "
The evening meal however was certainly not passable!!
again we sat down , there was no menu, noone told us what was for dinner.. There was only what was put in front of you !!
well !!
starter was. 2 fish fingers, dry bread , mayonnaise, and some shreddedcabbage and carrot!(i kid you not!)
main meal , again no choice
pile of spaghetti, with what looked like mussels in!!
My husband who is very very even tempered said to me""come on let,s go"
As i was leaving the daughter said""whats wrong?"
I said to her "this is awful and there is no choice we just have to put up with what you give us ......"
she just shrugged!!!!!!
next morning at b/fast
little flat omelette, few mushrooms, watery OJ again and tea
This was repeated through the week these same 2 b/fasts!
we only had a couple of b/fasts but we could see when we were going out to eat what other people were eating as we were passing them
Not only that you were sat apart from other people who were paying for their food , made to feel inferior.. their tables were even set better!
The apartment we were in was very dated to say the least.. there is basic and clean and then there is basic and can,t be bothered!!
we had the latter
The sheets were so old you could see through them and they were grey . the bedcover was not much better
when the maids came to clean, they""made"" the bed .. this consisted of pulling up the bedcover ignoring the crumpled sheets underneath
The towels had certainly seen better days these were thin and grey as well
Now
this place is split into 2 parts .. the old and new......... we were were obviously in the old part. but my point is we shouldn,t be treated any different the same standards should apply and they certainly did not
I have been to kassiopi loads of times , and i expect basic i am used to it , if it is clean i am happy
But i am furious with this place because it was an unexpected holiday for my husbands b/day . that is why we went half board ....
We spent far more than we budgeted for because of the poor standard of food.....we were made to feel most unwelcome
Every word of this report is as it was i have no reason to lie
I would not recommend this place to anyone

But we did have a good holiday in kassiopi as always we are back in september

My partner and I were at Micheangelo's for two weeks this August. Having holidayed in Greece many times, I knew what to expect. The staff were very friendly (especially Spiros and Amy who run the bar, the lovely lady in the shop and Sharon the Thomson rep; oh yeah, and Flora and Claudia). The apartment was bog standard, however, that is what we paid for. We were in an 'old' apartment. It was small, the toilet was stinky(before we got there). The self-catering facilities were not great, but they rarely are. The cleaners became a rare sight after the first week. The stray cats and dogs were relaxed and not intimidating in the least. The mozzies were silent but violent. The wasps were a nuisance. Our Olympic rep said that the water was drinkable. DON'T DRINK THE WATER! It tastes like the sea.
However,we both had a lovely, relaxing time with no unrealistic expectations. Greece is Greece and is a beautiful country. I would rate the Michaelangelo apartments if you like a laid back, peaceful holiday.

BASIC AND DIRTY
1 / 10
Aug 2009, joroberts

I booked this holiday for myself, husband and 2 teenage daughters, the Accomodation was dirty there was mould growing in the bathroom, the bed linen and towels were smelly and there was hardly any kitchen utensils which is ridiculous in self catering.
The floors had dust, hairs and bits all over in fact it did not look as if this apartment had been cleaned at all.
Upon our arrival on the monday we saw that the bathroom had no window so we contacted reception straight away but were told that the previous people had broken it but they could not get it repaired before the Tuesday, however it took several more visits to reception and up to the Thursday to get it fixed.
There was a pack of 5 dogs that were wandering about the complex all week and one of them was "on heat2 so we were subject to dogs howlig for hours on end fighting amongst each other and on 2 days 3 of them mating round the pool with the [--].
again we complained several times but were told that they were strays and that they could not control them and that it was the fault of the Holiday makers for feeding them and nothing could be done. These dogs were big dogs and were vicious and were barking at and preventing Holiday makers from getting sun beds round the pool, it was a frightening time for lots of us.
At night we were subject to quad bikes and scooters revving and speeding through the complex at very high speeds despite it being a 20mph zone, they seemed to be using the complex as a race circuit and were again told that "nothing could be done.
the Holiday was a nightmare and I would not recommend this resort to anyone and it is most definately not worth the 3 thomson suns that they have graded it at I`d be pushed to give it 1,Never again
The only good thing this week was the weather !!!!!!

Huge Disappointment

Aug 2009, Laura1

We booked a two bedroom apartment on the Thomson website. The accommodation had old and dated fixtures and fittings in poor condition. Grubby and stained throughout.
Marketed as three stars, but in reality this is only very basic one star accommodation.
Kassiopi is lovely area of Corfu – don’t spoil your holiday by booking the Michelangelo Village Apartments - a huge disappointment.

A Favourite Holiday...

My partner and I (both 23) were both really impressed with Michaelangelo Village Hotel in Kassiopi and we loved our time there, so much that we both want to go back! We were lucky enough to stay in the newest apartment block and our room was clean, modern, fresh and spacious and reminded me of a 4* hotel. Our balcony overlooked the beautiful greek countryside. The only downside was you have to pay 5 euros per day for air-con in the room. The main pool (the largest of the 4) was just next door, alongside a newly built restaurant. The whole "village" was down a lane that led to a beach, off a main road into Kassiopi which is about 15 mins walk away. In Michaelangelo Village the various apartments/ bungalow blocks sit prettily amoung flowers and trees, with a restaurant, bar, reception, tennis courts, children's area and the swimming pools all off the lane - all very handy to have around. Because it is set away from the town a bit, its a peaceful location to stay.
Kassiopi itself was such a lovely place to go. We'd read reviews that it was lovely, but you never quite know whether it'll be the same for you...but it was. We loved it. When we were there it was just the right kind of busy - it wasn't a ghost town or sooo quiet that it was boring, but it wasn't crowded or noisey either. It had lots of shops and loads of restaurants and a beautiful harbour surrounded by more restaurants and bars. But its not a really lively noisey place - although there is a club and one sports/ cocktail bar by the harbour which we went to every night "Illusions" which plays loud cheesey kind of music - but generally it was quite a chilled out, typically Greek and decent place to be. There was no water sports, being a harbour, but you could hire boats and bikes/ quads/ buggies. There was a lovely walk off the harbour up a hill and pass lots of little pebbly beaches and coves, with beautiful sunsets in the evenings.
The food was great. Not expensive either. We only had one meal which wasn't so good both by quantity and quality (a bit greasy) but every other place we ate was really nice. My only disappointment a bit was that most meals didn't say what they came with and when they arrived...CHIPS.
So I give the holiday a 9 out of 10! :)

What a relief!

Like others here I was horrified, with only 2 weeks to go before our holiday, to read awful reviews of this accomodation. So when we arrived and were shown into our appartment by it's owner, my husband and I were so relieved!
We had a two room (4 bed) apartment - for a bit of extra room. The apartments are not new, and show reasonable signs of wear and repair. As with other apartments we've stayed in on Corfu, they have plain white walls, stone tiled floors, and plain dark wood furniture and fitments. The kitchen area was very small, with integrated fridge, two ring hob and sink, plus cupboards and breakfast type bar. Also a kettle which you don't always get. This was as described by the brochure and was fine for breakfast and snacks. Our balony overlooked both the pool, and over the complex to Avlaki bay and Albania beyond. We were not expecting any sea view, so this was nice.
The most important thing I must stress is that the apartment was CLEAN! The floors, the towels, the bedding, the fridge - everything was clean. 6 days out of 7 two very pleasant maids cleaned the rooms. Towels were changed twice a week, bedding once a week. We were told at reception that if we needed more items of linen just go and ask.
The only minor inconvenience was that with the shower tray in the bathroom emptying very slowly (Greek plumbing) and the design of the shower it's inevitable that water gets on the floor and the drain in the floor is slightly raised so the bathroom floor remains wet. They've tried to counter this by providing a mat. We used the mop and bucket positioned outside the appartment door to get rid of the water after showering. The floor soon dried.
Air conditioning and safety deposit boxes are extra, but that is the norm.
Olympic now have their own reception at Michaelangelo and from 9am to 9pm it is manned by either the lady owner or her assistant, Claudia. Both were very friendly and very helpful. The Olympic Rep, Jo, posted her hours of attendance on a noticeboard outside reception, and she was always there when she said she would be, and always very helpful. The only problem we had was that the light didn't seem to work in the bathroom. My husband reported this to Claudia at reception. she said "Fine, I'll get someone out to you now - but do you mind if I take a look first?" She came back with him straight away and located the light switch hidden behind a curtain! But at least it was dealt with immediately.
The pool and pool area was cleaned nightly, the water quality tested and chemicals added regularly - we had a birds eye view.
There is an on-site supermarket which is reasonably priced with very friendly staff. The lady owner commented to me that everyone there was like family. There is a bar, snack bar and a nice taverna running along the road that bisects the "village". This road runs down to Avlaki bay and Agios Stefanos beyond and is used by local traffic. This does include the odd lorry, as they are building some new villas on the way to Avlaki. There is a beach five minutes down the road but it is stony, so take beach shoes.
Comment was made about dogs at Michaelangelo. There are three friendly dogs around who don't bother anyone and are well cared for. they might accompany you into Kassiopi but are never a nuicance.
Kassiopi is 10 minutes walk away (down a hill on the way there, up on the way back!) and a new pavement has been installed along the main road. A free little shuttle "train" is now available to take you from the top of the hill down into the harbour - and back again, should you not feel like walking it. In the day Kassiopi is busy with tourists and boats and is a good place to watch the world and the boats go by. There are a couple of walkable shingle beaches nearby. At night Kassiopi livens up but was not "clubby" as I'd expected. Everyone socialises at night when it's cool, especially the locals and their children. There are tavernas and bars to suit everyone and it's a good place to people-watch, eat and shop.

Myself and my husband booked a holiday with olympic for 11nights from the 25th may till the 6th june,to stay at the Michaelangelo Village Apartments.
We set off and arrived at the airport in time for our flight which was booked for 11a.m. When we got through the through the check in we found out that our flight had been delayed but wasn't told how long for, we had to keep checking the screens.
We checked at 11 only to be told to check at 12pm for more information, we checked at 12 and told to check at 1pmand so this went on. We were eventually told that the flight was delayed untill 7pm that evening, we were given a £10 food voucher each. When we arrived at our apartments at 03.15am. we had already missed 1 of our 11 nights holiday.
The apartment was basic but cleanish, the beds were clean and so were the towels, at 10 am the cleaners knocked on the door to clean our room ( the managment should have told them about the delay which would have prevented them coming to clean the room.)
Overall the apartments wer'nt that bad the pool and pool area was clean ( although there was the odd bug or two in there at times.)during our stay my husband saw a rat but only one. the staff were helpful and our rep joanne was brill. on our last day we had to pay 35euros to move to another room till we were picked up at 02.45. kassiopi in generalis a nice place and the locals are very friendly. we met some nice people, english and greek.
a big hello to jasmin bar and one for the road we had some good nights there.

Just back from a week at the michelangelo village. Initially given the wrong room as we ordered a two bedroomed apartment and were given a one bedroom appt. Next day Nellie upgraded us to a two bedroomed maisonette. Each room had its own large shower/toilet room newly refurbished and both had a very large balcony with lovely views. Bed mattresses a bit hard and linen had seen better days but room clean and bins emptied regularly. Complex very clean and tidy with no signs of rats anywhere. Weather in the 80's and pool areas very quiet as just the start of the season but that was a bonus. It seems to me those who have complained on the reviews had booked with Olympic holidays and I had booked with Thompson and was very satisfied.
