Just returned from a week half board here, and it was fantastic. Heavenly location and view to die for. Yes, excrutiatingly steep hills from road to hotel, and from road down to beach - but as long as you're reasonably fit, look on it as the only exercise you'll get apart from lying on the fabulous beach all day at Barbati. Beach bar Nautilus served fab lunches/drinks and hire out sunbed and umbrellas, the lady there is a very friendly yorkshire lass who did a Shirley Valentine. Hotel rooms basic, but adequate and very clean. Meals tasty - salad bar delicious. If you want a truly relaxing holiday, this is for you. Disappointing aspects; buses to Corfu town or Kassiopi stopped running after 4.30 in afternoon, so evening trips out needed a taxi (25 euros each way). Advertised entertainment programme did not materialise, and when questioning hol. rep and hotel staff they embarrassingly conceded that things had slipped somewhat and nothing was organised. However, when a group of us requested a Karaoke night, they did put one on for us. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Trips were limited due to the reluctance of coaches to come and pick up at Barbati. (Don't bother with the Greek Night trip - we circumnavigated the whole of Corfu island just to pick up 4 people. What should have taken us half an hour to get to Corfu, took us about 2 and a half hours.) So, in conclusion, great hol for total chill with great beach and stunning views from hotel, but very quiet and not easily accessible if you want something to do at night. Try and see Corfu Town, and sit and sip coffee/drinks at the Liston buildings and people watch. Kassiopi nice for an evening out. Good italian rest. there called Little Italy. Don't bother going 10 mins down road to Ipsos, it's tatty, naff and a dump. Weather was gorgeous every day, only had rain early one morning.
Good views, Nice, Quiet Location

Hi. My Girlfriend and I have just returned from a weeks stay at the Pantakrator hotel in Barbati. We went with the intention of having a relaxing holiday spent by the pool and wanted to avoid a clubbing\pubbing holiday so opted for the quiter north of the island far away from Kavos!! The hotel, as stated by other reviewers is in a lovely position with fantastic views where you can see over to Corfu Town and also make out Albania when the weather is good. As stated the hotel is on a hill so the stroll\drive up is pretty steep. The hotel seemed to have a mix of nationalities and seemed popular with young couples and some families, although the latter decreased as the week went by (schools returning at the start of Sept). We had a standard room and it was ok, nothing special. It did have it's own balcony which was great for the views and a TV\DVD so CD's could be played on this. Fridges and Air Conditioning are avaliabe but all at extra cost. We went on a half-board basis although always said that we would eat out in the evening. We did have one meal at the restaurant and that was fine but we did feel there was a lack of choice having looked at the menu throughout the holiday. With regards to the buffet breakfast we were not too impressed with the quality. There is variety in terms of bread, fruit, cold meats, etc but it was not the best quality. The warm breakfast bits seemed to always consist of eggs, baked beans, frankfurters and then one other dish that seemed to change daily. If you do eat there I would recommend getting there by 9.30am before the better food disappears. The hotel reception and staff are all very friendly, and the pool area was really nice. You can get a selection of drinks and food here throughout the day (the cooked breakfast is better here than the daily buffet!). We did eat out every evening bar one and there are several tavernas at the bottom of the hill that are very accommodating and serve very nice food, all with lovely views of the bay. We felt 'Caryatides' was the best but you can't go wrong with any along here. We booked a hire car via the hotel which was really worth it to explore the island a bit more. At 31 Euro a day (discounts for more than one day) we felt this was really good value. We would recommend going to Agni (2 villages further up from Barbati) that is a tiny bay where there are 4 tavernas offering fantastic food. This was recommended in the Greek Island travel guide we had and was well worth it! Overall we had a really nice time in Barbati. If you do want a quiet holiday away from the crowds then this would be for you. The only gripe was the quality and lack of choice with the hotel food but with so many nice tavernas at the end of the road this is not a huge problem, and wouldn't stop us going again.
A bit like Butlins with a view....

Firstly, on a positive note - yes - the hotel is nice and clean. The scenery is spectacular, as are the young ladies working there who were particularly charming, intelligent and helpful without exception. However, dodging hordes of angry wasps and listening to the same singular CD over and over for an entire week (yes, 1 CD, played constantly for an entire week can become monotonous) isn't quite my ideal choice in entertainment. I'm sure someone would enjoy it. Families on a budget perhaps. Younger folks, find a hotel nearer Ipsos so you don't have to trapse back and forth in abject boredom. Older folks - be warned that the hill up to the hotel is literally halfway between horizontal and vertical, so if you are free-spirited and don't want to organise your itinerary around the minibus to and from the beach, you'd better have either lots of money to pay for taxis, or be into brisk vertical pedestrianism. And please, don't put TVs in the room if there is zero reception whatsoever. I found one Greek shipping channel amidst the interference. A reasonable enough place to sleep, but lacking severely on the entertainment front. My conclusion - the cost to customer service ratio does not quite add up in my opinion. I've stayed in hotels of comparable quality in London for similar cost, and London is far from an inexpensive place.
Good hotel, but not much to do.

Hiya. My girlfriend and I have just returned from a week spent at the Pantakrator hotel in Barbati. The hotel is in a beautiful location, with some excellent views, although as other reviewers have suggested, the hillside location also has its bad points, namely that if you get a room at the top of the hill, as we did, then it is an arduous walk during the day to the room. Lets start with the food. We stayed on a half board basis, booked on a late deal for a good price. The breakfast was average buffet based fair. The cooked breakfast wasnt up to much and I have never been a fan of continental meats etc. Plentiful bread, jams, coffee etc so you can make do. The lack of variety did get to me by the end of the week, but that is perhaps being over demanding. I liked the evening buffet which consists of soup, salad bar, the choice of three or four hot dishes and a sweet. The menus were varied, and whilst all the food wasnt of the highest standard, I ate happily for a week without any major problem. The bars were very fairly priced, with a nice variety of cocktails. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We stayed in your standard room which was fine but basic. A little bugbear of mine was that there was an air conditioning unit in the room but you had to pay extra to use it. I don't like this as it feels as if you are being continually asked for more and more money for a service that should be included. The same goes for the jacuzzi which stands next to the pool unused by anyone as it is exhorbitantly priced. Indeed, there wasnt even water in it. If the jacuzzi was cheaper then it would be used. The bathroom was small and the shower was not very good. The room was cleaned every day though and we had our own balcony which had a very good view of the bay. Barbati is pleasant with a view nice tavernas and beaches but there isnt much to do. We wanted a sun lounger holiday but if you are wanting to do anything else then a taxi or hire car is recommended. We got a taxi to corfu town which is highly recommended and broke up the holiday nicely. Overall I would say that the hotel was a good three star destination. I am not convinced that it is any better than this and certainly is not a four star destination in terms of the actual hotel room and food. I give the holiday an above average rating because if you are after a quiet, peaceful holiday for a reasonable price then this fits the bill, but be prepared to have to travel around the island if you want anything more than this as Barbati, apart from a few nice tavernas and a beach has very little to offer.
Must be the best view on the Island!

Stayed at the Hotel Pantokrator for two weeks at the end of July/beginning of August 2005. This is our third time at this hotel, and we had a fabulous holiday. Everyone refers to the Hotel as the Pandokrator, but the locals seems to spell it Pantokrator. The hotel web site is (---) and give the viewer a pretty acurate description of the hotel. We upgraded to a de luxe room for this holiday, and it was worth every penny. The air conditioning was excellent and a good night's sleep was had every night, despite the extremely hot weather! The room was cleaned daily and the maids were very friendly. Our room had a brilliant view over the bay over to Corfu in the distance. The majority of rooms are almost like self contained chalets and have an almost private balcony. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis, and cannot complain about the food. Breakfast was a buffet type affair and was plentiful and varied. Not quite up to some of the better hotels perhaps - but I expect you get what you pay for - and let's face it, for the money it was excellent. We also had an evening meal on a few occasions during the two weeks at the hotel. Again this was a buffet affair - not brilliant - I loved the salad bar, and my husband certainly enjoyed the fact you could eat as much as you liked, but I would have preferred the main courses to be less fried, with perhaps more choice. Still they usually managed a pasta so again it was quite acceptable. We usually walked down to the village of Barbati (one long road actually, and quite busy so keep a look out for traffic!), and ate at The Lord Byron. Reasonably priced and we never had a bad meal! The owner George, and his colleague also called George, made us feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble, often joining us for a last drink and giving us all the gossip on the island. I recommend you give them a visit! We hired a car for 10 days - first week booked prior to the holiday with Eurocar, and a second car booked for 3 days with the hotel. Whilst the Eurocar was of a higher spec. the hotel car was perfectly adequate and a great deal cheaper! Would certainly use this option next time. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, particularly Maria on reception and her friend who worked behind the bar. Can't fault any of the staff. The pool was excellent, and the service at the pool bar second to none. Food and drink expertly and quickly served by Carla. Only down side to the hotel is that it is built on the steep sides of Mount Pantokrator and it is very steep to walk from the beach up to village, and then again from the village to the Hotel, with a further steep walk back to your room. Not very good in hot weather. You have to be fit and I would not recommend it to anyone who is not a good walker or good on their feet. A trip to corfu town is definitely a must - particulary the old part of town - plenty of spending to be done, and some lovely tavernas and restaurants. All in all an excellent holiday. Obviously you can only speak as you find it yourself and not everyone likes the same type of holiday, but the fact we have been three times speaks for itself.
fantastic Location

Just returned from Pandokrator Hotel-Barbati, service was excellent, staff very friendly and helpful, really go out of way to help you, fantastic views across bay and landcsape of Albanian coast visible. rooms adequete clean and a view to die for from balcony, only downside is cardiac hill, small hill you have to walk up to access the hotel and not the thing to do on a extremely hot day. But this apart a very enjoyable Hotel.
Pandokrator Out of this World

Having just read a review about the Pandokrator Hotel in Barbati, Corfu, I fully agree it is a lovely hotel. The views are to "die for" and most of the staff were really nice, especially the English Receptionist. The setting of the hotel is out of this world and the views from the balcony were outstanding. We had originally booked for 4 nights but I changed it to 7 and I can honestly say I am glad I did. We stayed in one of the standard rooms and it was okay, nothing special but very clean. We really enjoyed this holiday. We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. The bar staff were very nice and if anyone left a tip they used to "honk" a horn!! A lovely place to stay and a really nice holiday. Came back refreshed.
what a view

My fiance & I have just returned from a week at this hotel & it we will definately be going back. Although you have to climb two very steep hills to get to the hotel the view from the front of the hotel & all the rooms is amazing. You are able to see all the way to Albania & Corfu town across the sea.The hotel & pool are all on one level & all the rooms are in blocks further still up the hill. We stayed half board with breakfast & dinner served as a buffet. The staff are all very helpful & our room was cleaned every day. The daytime receptionist is an english lady & she helped us to organise everything from horseriding to a water taxi into Corfu town. Barbati is a very quiet relaxed resort with a long pebbled beach providing watersports, sun loungers etc. We found another very quiet beach just down from the hotel although again it is a very steep climb to get down to it from the main road. The hotel also has 8 deluxe rooms which you can upgrade to if you wish. We didn't but spoke to people who had & they said it was well worth it so maybe next time.
its hilly but what a delight

i visited this hotel about 4 years ago so my review is not up to date. firstly, if you are disabled, think twice about going there. try kassiopi or sidari for a similar ( but busier ) corfiot experience. barbati is a small village, if you drive through it and blink you will miss it. the hotel is set into the hillside high above the main road. the beach is a further 93 steps down from the main road, so it is a bit of an effort just to get to the beach....dont worry, the hotel has a terrific swimming pool. the quality of the food, service and friendliness of the staff was of the highest standard. the view from the dining room is majestic. i went on a B&B package. the breakfast was easily the best that i have had in greece...by far. can you imagine eating your bacon and eggs high on the hillside watching the dolphins play far below you in the warm ionion sea? its a delightful place to visit and i hope that you will enjoy it as much as i did robert
Pandokrator Hotel - Barbati

Just returned from the Pandokrator Hotel in Barbati. HOTEL: Very nice and clean with a fabulous pool area with the best views on the island, the backdrop of the mountains is stunning, however this makes for a VERY steep walk to the hotel from the main road and it doesn't end there. Once you arrive at the hotel reception you discover the rooms are in in fact more like small apartments built higher up on varying stages of hills set right back in the hill above. Each block is completely seperate from the actual hotel building itself which in fact only houses the bar, reception and dining rooms. ROOMS: Adequate with varying configurations of beds some have 3 singles others 2 or even 1 double and a single, all rooms vary in size and shape as do the balconys (of which all rooms have one) The usual lastic table and 2 chairs on balcony come as standard alonf with a small wadrobe and 2 small draws. There is air con units in the rooms which are payable locally for approx 8 Euros per day plus a fridge which can also be rented daily. The rooms are quite cramped but fine for what you need and the staff will let you have more blankets, towels and pillows etc. Bathroom again small but adequate they have the usual hand held greek shower facility ! But at least you get a shower curtain even if it is 5 inches short of the tray !!!!! The water was always hot even though the weather wasn't (come to that later) perhaps it may not be if there were more than the 8 rooms being used when we were there. Rooms are cleaned daily except Sundays and sheets and towels changed every other day. FOOD: Brekkie was the usual greek standard affair of cold sliced meats, greek yoghurt, sliced cake, museli and cornflakes. Plus the toaster for toasting your brown or white bread also honey and jams available. Tea and STRONG coffee plentiful but beware they only provide Earl Grey tea bags :-( it is served in the dining room between 8 & 10 and they are pretty strict at shutting it all away at 10am too so not for stragglers or late risers ! You can order a full english for an extra 3 Euros if required, although we never did so can't comment on it. The Pool Bar was open every day (except when it was raining !!!) and served lovely coffee, milkshakes, alcohol and fruit juices along with good quality snacks at very reasonable prices. Carla is the resident wizard in the pool bar and is very quick and very friendly. The main bar does serve food in the evening but it's very limited at this time of the year and we didn't bother, however we did all have our first drink of the evening in the bar and although it was nice I wouldn't say the staff go out of their way at all to get to know the guests they all very much keep themselves to themselves. BARBATI: VERY, VERY quiet not much there except a couple of supermarkets and a handful of bars/restaurants. If you only want a half a hike from the hotel and don't want to climb Cardiac Hill then there is a small but well stocked supermarket just below the hotel before reaching the main road. We ate a coupld of snacks in Barbati and spent our first night in one of the bars here but otherwise we left in Taxis every night for Ipsos. As we were celebrating our friends 40th Birthday we wanted something a little more lively than Barbati had to offer so we took to getting 2 taxis every night from the hotel to Ipsos which is about 3 miles away and cost us 10 Eur each way. Ipsos again is small but the whole place is in one long strip along the seafront and there were some good bars and clubs. We all recommend B52 Bar where we were made to feel really welcome, good music and nice staff. It was very popular with greeks, tourists and most of Ipsos. Next door but one was Hectors nightclub and although we were there at the start of the season it did open most nights till 5am. We recommend Donos for food we ate there twice and it was exellent on both occasions. On our last evening we travllled to a pre-arranged dinner to Agni Beach just past Kassiopi and about a 20 Euro ride away from Barbati. We ate at the infamous Agni Beach Taverna which is run by Nathan and his greek wife. The food was outstanding as was the service, however it was very expensive compared to other restaurants locally but the quality was second to none. Our bill for 2 courses for 6 people was 210 Euro's but was worth every penny. TIPS: Be prepared for the amount of Albanian nationals in Corfu, bearing in mind you can actually see the Albanian coast from Corfu it's no surprise to find many of them have moved to Corfu for work. You can tell them from the Greeks, HOWEVER for some reason none of them will readily admit to being from Albania dn try to insist they are greeks.....why I don't know only they could explain that but bear in mind the bulk of them are doing pretty menial jobs in Corfu and therefore don't earn an awful lot. I also think they rely on the tourists for "chatting up" as the Greek women don't seem to have the time of day for them. While we met many and most were very friendly we were warned off them by the Greek men....who knows this could have been genuine concern or jealousy but we didn't encounter any problems at all.WEATHER: The weather was pretty poor we had rain and lots of it, although we did get one and half days of glorious sunshine too and the nights made up for it.All in all I definitely wouldn't go back to Barbati because it was too quiet however I would try Ipsos as for the Pandokrator probably not but if it was located elswhere definitely yes !!!!
We had a superior room at this hotel and it certainly lived up to it's name! The room was in a villa style block with an amazing view, and was beautifully furnished and very comfortable. The food was very good, buffet style with plenty of choice. Staff were very helpful and... more
