" We came back from Pella Beach on 29... "

We came back from Pella Beach on 29 September. The weather for our two weeks was abysmal so we spent quite a bit of time in the hotel whilst the rain poured outside along with thunder and lightening some evenings too. It was also cold so leaving all the doors wide open was not appreciated as the guests tried to occupy their time in the hope that the sun would come out at some time. Where were the entertainments team? Not to be seen very often that's for sure, just a few worn out puzzles and board games placed on very few tables! The entertainment in the evening would have been fine for children, very amateur although they tried hard. The hotel itself is in dire need of refurbishment which we heard was to take place during the winter months after it closes in October 2008. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, warm welcome from reception staff, likewise each evening from the head chef and the maitre d' at the entrance to the restaurant. The food was okay but very repetitive and very bland; we would have expected far better from a 4* hotel. The bedrooms are spacious and reasonably clean if you don't look under the beds - which we did after finding a HUGE black beetle crawling across the carpet one evening and we were on the 4th floor! There are plenty of sun loungers outside in the very nice gardens and also on the private beach. The pools are fine and the nearby hotel taverna serves meals and snacks during the day.
Ask for a room on a reasonably high floor on the side opposite to the car park and enjoy a lovely view (when the weather is good!). There are two lifts so never a problem getting up to higher floors. Also would mention that there are no tea/coffee facilities in the rooms, strange for an allegedly 4* hotel. All carpets are worn, stained and not looking very well fitted (could be dangerous in places for old folk); the towels were sometimes very thin and ragged round the edges. Fruit and white wine is provided in the room on arrival which was a nice touch and there is a small 'fridge in the room. Towels for use on the beach or by the pools are free and can be changed every 2nd day - they were of better quality than most of the white bathroom towels!
Ammundes bar opposite the hotel is recommended for both price of drinks and entertainment, friendly staff too.
There were a lot of German, Austrian and Russian holidaymakers both at the Pella Beach and in and around Hanioti, very few of whom seem to want to be friendly or enjoy themselves, always looking very stern and even miserable. We were proud to be English and happily mix with anyone who returned a wish to show friendliness whatever their nationality.
Hanioti seems to be the largest town on the Kassandra peninsula but there is very little of the original Greek culture to be found anywhere in Halkadiki these days and we thought the Sithonia peninsula was by far the most scenic. Thessaloniki airport was let down by filthy toilets!
We are seasoned travellers but felt a little let down by the 4* rating of Pella Beach; maybe it will be better after the refurbishment. However, we would not return there and will never go back to Halkadiki either - if you want Greek culture, look elsewhere.

" What a brilliant setting! All rooms... "

What a brilliant setting! All rooms have side seaview. Hotel has large gardens with lots of sunbeds backing on to its own section of beach. Could get sunbed whenever you got up. Good news for me. Supermarket and bar at hotel entrance and resort centre close by. But just far enough away for quiet.

Staff really polite and friendly. Food good, not much English brekkie but so what. Room comfortable, I can’t understand previous comments about needing refurbishing. Best air-con I have ever known - stays on when room card taken out. But needed as temperatures were 40 deg.

Would I go back? Yes, yes, yes preferably next week! Can't recommend Pella Beach highly enough.

" The hotel and the surrounding gardens... "

The hotel and the surrounding gardens were fabulous. The rooms were very clean and spacious.

The buffet restaurant was very good, but sometimes the choice of food in the evening didn't really cater for the English guests.

The pools were great and so was the beach, the only thing was that the beach was on an incline but the sunbeds were on an angle.

The position of the hotel was great just 5 minutes from the square at Hanioti.

" This is a friendly hotel with some... "

This is a friendly hotel with some nice touches - fridges in rooms, fruit on arrival, drying line on balcony, beach towels, and free sunbeds on beach.

Some parts of the hotel need some updating, but the gardens are lovely. The rooms are basic and need updating but clean. Staff are friendly.

The food was good and varied. Entertainment is low key.

We did not like Hanioti - it is a small town consisting mostly of bars and mini markets.

" I stayed for two weeks at Grecotel... "

I stayed for two weeks at Grecotel Pella beach in the summer of 2005. It was a wonderful holiday with an idyllic setting.

The bars in the local village provided us with a good nightlife every night, always with different things happening!

The hotel itself was very impressive and the rooms were more than comfortable.

The hotel's swimming pools were great and if we got tried of them, the beach is literally only a stones throw away.

The staff in the restaurant were all lovely and willing to lend assistance in any way they could.

There was always a program of activities running on a daily basis which had something for everyone.

The other members of staff in the hotel bars could not have been more helpful of kind either.

All in all they provided me and the rest of my family with a unforgettable holiday and I hope to return as soon as I possibly can!!

" This is the second time we have been... "

This is the second time we have been to the Grecotel Pella Beach ... a week later than last year. We came back because the hotel was near perfect. The staff were extremely helpful, pleasant and sociable. The food I thought was excellent with different theme nights, but on fish night ... if you do not like fish like me ... there was enough other dishes to satisfy anyone’s hunger. The waiter service was excellent with many of the waiters speaking 2, 3 or more languages so being understood was not a problem.

The rooms were furnished to a good standard, very clean and tidy with maid service every day. The hotel rooms are a bit dated and could do with redecorating but overall 9 out of 10 for the rooms.

The pool are was excellent too with free loungers, parasols and of course we had free towels. The private beach was just off the pool area and the water really really warm. You need to swim out 12 yards where there is a sand bank to stand on.

The bars were again excellent although you need to shop around for the best prices... you can not go wrong with Ammudes directly opposite the hotel gate entrance, with George the owner - a young guy (brilliant) ... say Lee and Jane sent you (the King) and we will see them again at the end of September.

Both Jane and l liked the resort so much we are going back again in September 06 our 2nd visit this year. We can't afford the Pella this time but are staying at another hotel.

Having always been on Half Board l can't comment on the restaurants but there are hundreds of bars to choose from and the only complaint is is needs more livening up with a karaoke bar or more live music venues. But we really enjoyed ourselves.

Lee 49 and Jane ??? can't tell/wont tell??

" It was fabulous accommodation, well... "

It was fabulous accommodation, well prepared for families and very well catered for every persons taste, the beach was on the foot off your doorstep with every type off watersports available, the children’s clubs could have been better thought out but all the same it was fabulous.

The rooms are fully equipped, air conditioned, cleaned daily, and have a fridge to store you essentials.

Would very much recommend, I will be going back. <br>
