" The staff are brilliant and go above... "

The staff are brilliant and go above and beyond to try to help you.

The food was of a consistently good quality with plenty of variation and choice. The layout of the complex is excellent with all accommodation set away from the main reception and restaurant areas in beautifully maintained gardens. There are 3 pools to choose from. The only minus points would be against the "beach" and the village of Mastichari.

The beaches are more like a building sites with debris and "masses" of seaweed washed up and left. to the point where it is impossible to find a place to enter the sea. This would take very little rectifying (a tractor with a rake attachment) and the resort would perfect. <br>

However this did mean that our son (age 6 at the time) had few new friends to make. I don't think its even listed now in the Thomson brochure which is a shame as the hotel was really good.
The pool was excellent and there was plenty to get involved in if you felt like it. The food in the hotel was good too although a tad pricey for drinks. Regrettably the kids club that was supposed to be provided through booking with Portland was pulled about 6 weeks before we were due to go.
The village of Mastichari, we believe, was excellent. If you are looking for a quiet place to stay or visit this is the place to go. It had approx 20 tavernas/restaurants all serving very nice food and drinks. The beach, about a 10 minute walk from the hotel, was excellent too, contrary to the other person's review on here. You just have to walk a little further into the village away from the hotel. And right on the beach are a selection of bars and tavernas to get yourself drinks and lunch. A small selection of shops and a couple of arty-crafty type places were there too.
All in all we enjoyed the village and the hotel and if you are looking for somewhere peaceful and not to rowdy then this is the place to go. You can also get on a boat to I think it was Symi where the sponges are landed and this was an excellent place to visit on a daytrip.
We also did the volcano trip which again was excellent and fascinating although the bus trip a little hair raising - I shut my eyes most of the way there and back!! Also worth a visit is Kos Town which is really very nice and we spent a couple of day trips there. Lots of nice bars and cafes and some nice shops to look around too. Plus a load of old rocks (that my hubbie enjoys looking at!).
I would definitely recommend this place.
