Not the best experience of my life, I'm afraid. I was so looking forward to this holiday, and after reading some reports about this hotel, I was sure I'd made a good choice. Not so, I fear. On our arrival we had the most dismissive of welcomes from the reception clerk,... more

This is easily the best hotel in Costa Brava and is one of the best I have ever experienced in Spain. It rightly has 4 stars but I've stayed in 5 star hotels which do not match the quality of the Golden Bahia. The hotel itself is only a 5 minute stroll from the seafront... more

Well here I am again. On my last review we had been to this hotel Christmas 2004 and looking forward to Christmas 2005. What a fantastic time we had. It was so much better than the previous Christmas, even though I didn’t think that was possible. Once again the staff... more

Lovely Hotel
We have just returned from a week at the Golden Bahia de Tossa and had a wonderful holiday. The weather was very hot with only one slightly dull day although it was still hot enough to sit by the pool. The journey from the airport was around 45 minutes and takes you on a lot of bendy, narrow, steep roads although the view is pretty. We were the first coach drop off with the hotel being at the entrance to the resort which was nice. On arriving at our hotel we were greeted by the friendly reception staff who seem to speak a bit of every language which is always helpful. The hotel looks impressive from the outside as does the reception area and is superbly clean. After looking at the other hotels in Tossa De Mar during our visit I would say the Golden Bahia is by far the largest, nicest lace to stay and in the best location (not right in the centre of the resort but within easy walking distance). Rooms come in either standard size or suite size (suites have a bedroom, living area and balcony with private Jacuzzi). Ours was a standard double room (room 407) which was bigger than average in size as it contained a double and single bed (all rooms have either a double and single or two double beds). The balcony was quite small but there was room for a table and two chairs and we had a lovely view over looking the pool area. There was plenty of wardrobe space, a dressing table, small table with two chairs and TV. The bathroom was of average size with a shower over the bath and a small selection of toiletries and a hairdryer. The room was cleaned daily to a very high standard with beds changed every two days and towels everyday. The room safe is 2 Euros per day to hire along with a deposit, which you get back at the end of your stay. There is a vending machine on every floor where you could buy bottled water, soft drinks, beers, spirits, sweets and snacks. Also there is a free ice cubes machine on each floor if required. The pool area is excellent and there are always plenty of sun loungers so no need to get up early to reserve a bed. Outdoors there are two swimming pools (one large and one medium in size) a children’s pool and 2 large Jacuzzis (although these were cold). Inside there is a swimming pool, a Jacuzzi, a sauna, a gym, and a spa offering reasonable priced beauty treatments. Then there is the roof terrace which has two small whirlpools, a place to sunbath and a nudist section (although don’t let this put you off because we nearly didn’t book for this reason. However if we hadn’t already been told we wouldn’t have known it was there. Don’t think anyone even used it, either that or it was very, very well hidden). The hotel is half board and the dining room is large, very organised and with wonderful staff. The breakfasts buffet was tasty and includes a selection of cereals, fruit, cakes, bread, yoghurts, fruit juices, tea, coffee, water, cooked breakfast and even champagne. All of the breakfast drinks are included in the price but drinks with the evening meal have an extra charge (although they are very reasonable). The evening buffet was ok, I wouldn’t say it was excellent but nor would I say it was bad. There was always a variety of fruits, vegetables, potatoes, salads, soups, breads, pastas, meat dishes, fish dishes, vegetarian options, jelly, ice cream, yoghurts and cakes. During the day there are three places to eat, the snack bar offering chips, toasties, salads, sandwiches, pizzas etc which is reasonably priced, the La Selva which had an a la carte menu including fish, steak, pasta etc, and the outside barbeque. The night time entertainment includes the piano bar where you can have a drink (inside or out) while listening to the Pianist or the large lounge area showing various entertainment shows. These shows were pretty average as in most hotels but a one to defiantly catch is ‘The Temptations’ (a four piece soul band) who seemed to impress everyone. Children’s entertainment seemed good and there was a small games room. The resort itself is lovely and very unspoilt compared to other resorts in Spain. It is quite a small and quiet town so would be great for couples and families. People looking for a more rowdy holiday would probable prefer a different resort because the nightlife caters more for families and couples wanting a peaceful and relaxing holiday. The beach is about 10-15 minutes walk away but because the route is through the very pleasant little streets you hardly notice the distance and it is a very enjoyable walk. The Old Town is a most see with cobbled streets, lots of little shops and restaurants, the wonderful Castle and the gorgeous views over the coast. There are two main beaches and a small beach over by the old town which is very nice. Overall the hotel is very clean, the staff are very friendly and helpful, the pool area is great and the surrounding area is very picturesque. We would defiantly recommend this hotel to anyone, we are missing Tossa De Mar already:0) and have already talked about returning next summer but this time for two weeks.
Wonderful hotel
We have just returned from two weeks at The Golden Bahia. It was absolutely fabulous (except for those guests who had no manners and moved the furniture around in the middle of the night!) The food was excellent and there was so much choice, the puddings were soooooo good - be prepared to put on weight from your stay here. The bedrooms were very clean, and the staff friendly. The pool was great, lots of space and lots of sunbeds. Tossa is a lovely resort and there is lots of good walking. There is a superb walk along the coast, starting at the back of the castle, and a long walk up the mountains at the back of Tossa, which is quite strenuous but well worth it. We also did day visits to Barcelona which was great, Gerona which we didnt enjoy that much, and Montserrat, which was also brilliant. We highly recommend this hotel and resort.
Wonderful Hotel
Just returned from the Golden Bahia de Tossa and loved the hotel. Our room was excellent with a pool view. Plenty toiletaries, a kettle with daily supply of tea/coffee and milk. Beds changed every two days and towels changed daily. Have never had so much wardrobe space in a hotel room and plenty drawer space. Room safe was 2 Euros per day to hire. There was a drinks machine on each floor and it suppled water, soft drinks, beers and spirits, sweets and snacks. Also free ice cubes if required. In the basement there is a coin operated washing machine, drier and iron. The pool area was excellent and an abundance of sun loungers and very good snack bar which was very reasonably priced. The Dining Rooim is large and very organised. Superb selection of food. Chef cooks steak and fish to order. Plus theme nights. Fresh fruit and wonderful cakes and sweets. Drinks very reasonable. Tossa is a lovely little place and the Castle was wonderful. Super little bars and restaurants on the way uphill. We went to Gerona for a day and as there was only one direct bus from Tossa early in the morning we had to go via Lloret de Mar. Gerona is a beautiful city and well worth a visit. We got a direct bus from Gerona to Tossa in the early evening. The bus station is 300 yards from the hotel and there is an excellent Tourist Office beside it - the staff were very helpful and pleasant. Since our last visit to Spain in January cigarettes (Benson and Hedges) have gone up from 28 euros per carton to 36 euros per carton. Would certainly recommend this hotel - the staff were very friendly and well mannered. We had a good holiday and would certainly return if we were in Tossa again.
Excellent hotel
Excellent hotel and a very nice resort. We had four generations in our party (6 adults and an 18 month old baby) and we all enjoyed our holiday. The hotel was very clean and modern. The staff were helpful and friendly. The dining area was very pleasant (eat inside or out). The food wasn’t the best we’ve had, compared to other holidays, but it was perfectly alright. We weren’t able to take advantage of the piano bar because of the baby (no children are allowed in the piano bar, and this is the only public area where smoking is allowed), but we were very happy to have a drink and chat in the main hall in the pleasant smoke-free environment. The 18 month old enjoyed the mini disco, for 45 minutes each evening, and we enjoyed watching him! Then, at 9 o’clock, the two vocalists gave us a pleasant melody of songs to listen to or sing along with. Some evenings this was followed by some other entertainment. All in all it suited us. We thought the beach was idyllic and we had a nice little train ride up to the castle. Very scenic! We would recommend this hotel and would go again.
amazing hotel & staff
I stayed at the Golden Bahia in Tossa De Mar for Christmas and New Year. The hotel is amazing, the decor and cleanliness is outstanding and the rooms are very modern and comfatable. The food is great, i am very fussy and i managed to have something different everynight with great desserts and free wine and water everynight. The hotel staff work around the clock for 11 full days and smile every minute of it! They are very helpful and friendly it makes the holiday. Its was very cold in December so didnt get to use the outdoor facilities however the indoor pool and jacuzzi was loveley too warm you up. Also the spa treatments are good value for money, recommend the full body massgage. The entertainment is okay with something different everynight and bingo and games on during the day. The town itself is close by but doesnt really open over the christmas period so advised to go on excursions for the first part of the holiday and Barcelona is a great day out. There is also a little train which is fab and takes you round the whole resort and you get on and off like a bus. New years eve is great with a FREE bar which i made the most of and stays open until the last person leaves which was me at 6am. This time of year is based on the older generation but there was a couple of families there and the kids all played together and seemed happy enough. I would love to visit the hotel in summer as i think it would be a great place when the town is up and running and lloret is not far away.
Wonderful time
Second time here.third will be next year.great hotel quiet, nice locals good staff.breakfast good, dinner o.k. but eating out very cheap, chinese, italian ,french, and english food all the places we tried were good.hotel staff can t do enough for you entertainment a bit dodgy, but piano bar is all right.the hotel and town are very safe my 7 yearold wanders about no problem the staff are really good with kids from reception to maids.not too exciting not much too do but i go for a rest. p.s. if you dont like dutch french and crazy spaniards dont come. they full the place at weekends all year round i here. adios amigos
the very best
my husband and I have just returned from our stay at this hotel and are already thinking of going back next year, in fact we cant wait till next October, when we usually take our holiday, but are thinking of may 2006. When we booked this hotel last year we had always holidayed cheap and chearful but decided to try something different and we were not disappointed. This hotel is the crem de la crem. The food was to die for, so much choice and beautifully presented, all staff are warm and friendly and cant do enough for you and the hotel was well situated, only a few minutes walk from the old town. So, all being well we hope to do it all again next year
Everything you need in a hotel
The rooms were very comfortable and we had a lovely pool view. The buffet meals were everything you could eat with tremendous variety- something for everyone and free champagne for breakfast. The prices were very low. A bottle of beer in the restaurant was E1.40! So many facilities- pools, saunas, solariums, football and basket ball courts, table tennis, crazy golf, shooting, piano bar, live entertainment every night. Every room has two large double beds and all the facilities you would need. Only minor concern was very thin walls between rooms but our neighbours were quiet. Take earplugs just in case! We got upgraded to a suite for our last three nights- Jacussi on the terrace! Tossa is a beautiful little town with so many restaurants and bars and pretty beaches, but everything was closing down this week (oct 18th) also the weather had broken with massive rainstorms but we still had a great time. Really enjoyed our day to Barcelona and Girona (very nice old quarter by the cathedral)
Golden Bahia Wonderful hotel
Great Hotel, looking at other reviews picked best time to go, went 13th to 27th sept, wonderful staff only a couple of young tots there, grand piano in piano bar very relaxing, staff were excellant, weather was wonderful and the food was really good as i am a fussy eater, had twin room with two double beds one each, and a wonderful pool view our room was large and cleaned each day, tea making facilities, hairdryer, indoor heated pool was good, room terrace nice and quiet if you fancied a read, or a nap, would go back again, all in all a lovely hotel to chill suitable for couples or with young children, not suited to older ones
Almost brilliant
The outer appearance of this hotel is impressive. The lobby even more so. The rooms were very good, superbly clean and fairly well equipped. Housekeeping service was excellent. We found the staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast and dinner were organised with military precision, with table cleared and ready for use before the seats had gone cold! Breakfast buffet was very good, even with champagne available. Evening dinner buffet was a mixed bag with some excellent fare along with some more dubious creations. Must admit to not being a big fan of buffet-style in any event, so not truly impartial on that front. Other comments on this site about the bar facilities are fairly accurate. The decor and furnishing of the main bar/entertainment room is a bit of a let-down compared to the other facilities, whilst the piano bar would not serve coffee - not even alcoholically enhanced coffee - which left the choice of sitting through bingo in the entertainment room or the Little Chef style Cafe Bar. We were not over-run with children, although being in our mid-30's felt rather intimidated by the gangs of wrinklies playing Bridge in the lounge! For this reason did not venture into the nudist area! The resort is excellent, picturesque and fairly unspoilt, much better than some neighbouring resorts. The beach is about 15 mins walk away and the coastal drive northbound from the town is gorgeous. We enjoyed the boat trips too, although don't expect to see much through the glass-bottomed boat. Over all we had a good stay with few hassles and good facilities with helpful staff.
